Dane put his right hand into his left pocket and drew out a slim plastic lid containing mint, he popped a mint into his mouth and kept the plastic back to its previous position. He stood up from the sofa and sales towards the bar stand opposite Henry, he took calculated steps all the while flashing Henry a leering grin. It was obvious he was testing Henry's patience and Henry wasn't having any of it. "Cut the crap Dane, how do we find her," Henry snapped dashing towards the bar stand Dane was headed. He was sure Dane wanted to pour himself the half bottle of scotch he had left. Henry glared at Dane and poured himself a large quantity of the scotch, slamming the remaining on the table. The both of them shared a knowing glance, they both were aware of the game Dane was playing, sometimes in the previous week, Henry had something of importance to tell Dane and had pushed him to his limit before finally spewing the news. Henry knew this was Dane's way of paying him back. Meanwhile,
Eve groaned as she saw the name popping on her phone screen, it was Olivia, and the call ended as she was about to pick up, she tried calling her back and was astounded to see she had missed Olivia's call ten times already. When She rang Olivia back, her stomach was tied in a knot in fear, Olivia didn't call this repeatedly except she was in trouble. Olivia picked up the call in seconds."What the hell Eve, I was about to come to your place, I was worried sick when you didn't pick up, are you alright?" Olivia asked, sounding very worried.Eve sighed in relief. "I'm fine Olivia, you scared me, why would you call ten times?".Eve could hear Olivia curse under her breath. " You didn't pick on the second and third rings, which was unusual, so I kept calling." "That was absurd. Why did you call?""I just wanted to be sure you weren't home moping for that bastard and also confirm if you were ready to go back to the bar." Eve's eyes flew wide, she had forgotten she was supposed to be at th
"Come with you? What do you mean by ``I should come with you?" Eve demanded and tried to free her hand from the clutches of the men who gripped both her left and right arm but her effort was futile. They were strong men after all.The oldest of the group fumed and whispered into Eve's left ear. "Quit playing and come with us while you still can walk""Are you threatening me?""We don't have time to trade words." one of them replied and tightened his grip on her.Eve looked at him and his colleagues and let out a loud groan. "Leave me alone," she screamed at them, spitting on their faces."If she's going to stress us then I don't mind shutting her up." the one who barely spoke amongst them threatened and began tightening his fists."That wasn't part of the plan.""What plan?" Eve asked and looked up to the physically built men. Carlos lowered his head and Eve felt betrayed. Carlos was trembling from his spot. The oldest who happened to be the leader dragged Eve out of the bar and pinne
Henry took a few more steps closer to Eve and when she lifted her slightly bowed head again, their eyes met and he detected the agony in them. Her lips were dried up and dark circles were beginning to form underneath her eyes. She groaned.Henry narrowed his gaze down to her strapped hands and shifted it to her tied legs. He angrily turned around, walked toward Dane, and grabbed him by the collar "Are you crazy?" he yelled, violently shaking Dane.Dane's jaw dropped and his lips parted releasing hot air. Henry gradually let go of him and Dane sensed trouble. "Why would you keep her in such a state?" yelled Henry. Dane was starstruck He didn't speak but kept marveling over Henry's unprecedented outburst.Henry angrily walked past Dane and rushed out of the room. "Anybody here!" he screamed and called out to one of his men standing at the entrance."Hurry! Come with me," instructed Henry while dragging the man to the room. Eve squirmed in agony as tears ceaselessly stream down her chee
Eve lowered her head in shame and ignored Henry's question. "Why don't we check whether the envelope has arrived." she stuttered and pointed to the way out."Wait," Henry said and prevented her from leaving the spot by placing his right hand before her. "You were the girl from the engagement party, right? The girl from Devin's engagement," he said.Eve's expression betrayed her and Henry was convinced that she was the lady he was referring to."Eve heaved a deep sigh and moved to a tight corner where the trash can was. "Did you witness the drama that night? Were you there when I charged to that stage like a maniac?" "Yes," Henry replied. "I was at the engagement party." he justified with a nod.Eve placed her left palm on her forehead and began to pace. "You were there the whole period?" Henry didn't utter a word. He nodded and adjusted his Rolex watch."I was at the engagement party. I know Devin. You looked different back there." he pointed out and Eve knew he was referring to her
Eve giggled for about three seconds and swung her head from left to right in disagreement."What are you saying? You are joking right?" she demanded with her arms spread wide open before Henry.Henry adjusted the leather belt around his waist. "I'm not joking young lady, I'm married." he maintained.Eve smiled and began taking a few steps toward him but he prevented her from coming closer by placing his right hand before her. "Don't come near me ever again. I told you that I'm married," he screamed and turned around backing her.The shocking confession pierced Eve's heart. She felt as if a dagger was plunged into her heart. She held her forehead with both hands as a wave of dizziness took over her entire body. She pressed her eyes and took a few steps backward Eve tried to settle on the kitchen counter but she ended up falling to her knees on the floor. She sat on the floor while trying to catch her breath. She then hugged her knees with her chest as hot tears streamed down her cheeks
Eve wiped the stray tears making their way to her cheeks as she staggered to her apartment. Anyone who saw her walking to her home that night needed not to be told that she was shattered. She made her way through the barely shut door and turned the lights on after getting inside. Eve flung her bag to the right and sank on the largest couch in her living room and a few minutes, her mind drifted to Henry's confession of being married which sparked in her a torrential overflow of tears.Eve stood up and staggered to the corner she flung her bag. She pulled out her cell phone. Olivia had bombarded her phone with calls already. Eve's fragile hands trembled as she dialed Olivia's number."Eve? Are you there? Where have you been?" came Olivia's voice on the phoneEve busted into tears and the phone slipped through her hands. It landed on the floor and she could hear Olivia say"What happened? I'll be there right away. Just hang on." Eve was seated on her red carpet with her back resting on
Eve's hands trembled and in a flash, she dropped to the floor on her knees. Hot tears were already streaming down her cheeks. Elsa ran to her side and wrapped her right arm around her."I'm so sorry Eve." Elsa sympathized and began wiping Eve’s tears.Eve nodded repeatedly as the thought of her fate dawned on her. From the letter Elsa handed to her, her boss had asked her to pick up her stuff and leave the office stating that she was sacked. Eve didn't read the second paragraph where it was stated how she'll be paid for the number of days she had worked so far."I just got fired." she cried out and Elsa hugged her tightly."It's okay Eve. Please don't cry" Elsa consoled her.Elsa helped Eve to rise to her feet. "Do you need anything?" Elsa stuttered.Eve swung her head from left to right and began taking a few steps backwards. She walked out of the office building without carrying anything except the bag she came with. She was consumed by shock."Watch where you are going, miss!" A c
