Chapter 2
Anne’s POV“We are not staying here!” I yelled as annoyance streamed through me and I grasped Ava’s hand to leave. I didn’t care about the panic I saw in the house agent’s eyes or the disgruntled look on Daniela’s face, I was still going to leave.“To where exactly?” Daniela shot at me. “Don’t you realize, we don’t have anywhere else to go”“We would find somewhere”“Anne!” she called out to me while I was getting to the front door.“What Daniela?! Are we all going to pretend he didn’t do what he did? He fucking left and now he wants to be a part of my life?” I turned to look at the house agent. “Tell him, he is joking!”“Anne stop!” she called out as she ran after me.“You stop! You can stay here if you want, but I don’t want anything from that monster!” I spat out, repelling the impulse to cry.He had been alright all this while, but he didn’t come for me. I spent years thinking he was dead because it was tough to come to terms that he actually left me.What was he trying to do? Buy my trust with money because I was a thing he could toss and have at the same time. “I’m leaving!” I screamed at the both of them.I couldn’t believe Daniela would even try and sway me to do something like this when she was present when I cried to whole night after his disappearance. He had no value for me and that was why he left.Ava whimpered as I pulled her, begging she wanted to stay, but I paid deaf ears to her pleas whilst I still dragged her.I took a cab after the long trek to get away from the premises and while in the cab, my eyes watered from time to time, but I would blink unceasingly to halt myself from bawling them out.I was wrecked and miserable too because I had to used my last money to pay the cab man after dropping us back at the house.I dragged Ava until we got to our apartment and on getting there; I was faced with the shock of my life. Our things were all outside. Everything, including the little TV that Daniela once brought to the house. I was pretty sure my blood pressure increased at that instant as my eyes widened. Ava left me and ran to check our stuff.“Who did this?” she asked innocently. At that point, I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I let the tears go down my cheeks. I slipped to the floor as I wallowed myself in my anguish.I stared at my baby. She was confused that she didn’t understand we had just been kicked out. How could I tell her that? The stupid house owner had said 3 days, but it seemed he couldn’t wait till then before getting rid of us.I cleaned my eyes and beckoned on her. “Over here honey” I called out and she left the little inspection she was doing and ran to where I was.“Let’s drop you at Mrs Sandra’s house” I said referring the woman who lived across the street.“But why?”“I need to get our stuff away from here and it’s almost raining, I can’t let you come with me yet” I said to her, trying to form a smile, but my cheeks were so weak to hold one.“I’d come back from you soon” I promised her, but the truth was, I didn’t think it would be soon because I didn’t even know where I would take the bags to. Maybe a suitable spot for me to spend the night with my daughter. I swallowed hard at the thought of that. After dropping Ava at Mrs Sandra’s house, I grabbed the only two bags I could carry and the ones I felt I was the most comfortable with, leaving the rest and I started walking. What I had in mind was a motel even though it was going to cost my whole monthly salary for one night. I didn’t know how long I was going to stay there, but it was sure better than staying out on the streets. After texting Daniela about the new update, I began my journey under the rain. Remember when I said I had used up all my cash to get Ava and I home from the mansion. The rain got to me and I shivered from time to time. My body and hair had been drenched, I was pretty sure the clothes that was inside the bag was soaked too, but it was too late to turn back now.My phone stood a risk of falling apart, so I couldn’t bring it out to check how much time I had left under the rain.During my journey through the quiet road, a car honked beside me. It was odd because I wasn’t on the road. To avoid causing any troubles, I shifted further away from the road, but no car went through.I became alert immediately as my heartbeat quickened, turning my head to look at what was behind me and what the driver wanted.I became bewildered when my eyes met with three cars. A roll Royce phantom, a Porsche 959 and a cardiac escalade accordingly. I became alert immediately because the scene didn’t look good at all. Three black cars and just me in a lonely, quiet street.I turned around and started walking as fast as I could. The roll Royce drove beside me, matching my pace and it got to a time I started running. It was as though whoever was in there was waiting to me to get exhausted. When I eventually did and stopped running, ready to fight for my life if that was what it would cost me, the car window went downI stopped breathing instantly. It felt as though the universe halted for second. One of the bags i held fell to the floor while I stood confounded, staring at the man in front of me.It had been 5 years, but he still looked the same. Those brown eyes that mesmerized me the very day I set my eyes on them. Those same eyes that stopped me from breathing each time they gazed at me. The man who put me in grief for 5 years was right in front of me.I didn’t know what else to do, so I grabbed my bags and started running as fast as I could. My hand shook so much and my legs failed me, causing me to run slower than I earlier did. I didn’t know when he got out of his car until I heard him call my name. “Anne” I stopped dead on track, and was forced to look at him. He was getting drenched under the rain and so were his guards who were out of the two other cars, ready to pick me up if thier boss instructed them to do so. “Don’t you come any closer” I meant to shout that out, but it only came out in a whisper. My lips failed me. It was shut by shock and cold. He still decide to try his luck by coming closer and this time I had the energy to yell. “Don’t you dare come close
