Nathan’s POVI glance over at the alarm clock. Why am I up at 3:00 am on a Sunday? The answer is easy. Nineteen more days until Amelie and I say I do. I am so totally obsessed with her becoming my wife and staying my wife forever that I can’t sleep. I try to will myself to get up and head down to my office to work on some paperwork I’ve been neglecting, but it’s just not happening.I hear a soft knock on the door. I quickly get out of bed and make my way to the door. I open the door to see her standing there in her navy blue silk chemise nightgown. She looks breathtakingly beautiful, as always. “Amelie, what’s wrong?” I asked.“Nathan, can I come in?” She queried.“Of course, come in,” I motioned and stepped aside to let her in.“I had a nightmare,” Amelie stated, and she hugged herself. “Can I sleep in here with you?”“Aw, Amelie, of course, you can,” I said, leading her over to the bed and pulling back the sheets. She climbed in, and I tucked her in. “You need to get used to sleepin
Amelie’s POVNathan had left this morning before I had even woken up. Yesterday’s day in bed was just what I needed. The stress of Zander’s surgery, the apartment fiasco, and exams were starting to weigh on me. It was like Nathan could read me and provide me with exactly what I needed. We decided that since Trudy would be at the penthouse, I would move into Nathan’s room immediately. After studying for most of Monday, I headed off to visit Zander at the hospital. When I arrived home, all my clothes had been moved to the “hers” closet in Nathan’s room.I headed downstairs and was greeted by Trudy in the kitchen, “Ms. Cavanaugh, is there something I can get you?”“No, thank you, Trudy. Also, can you please call me Amelie?” I asked.“Of course, dear,” Trudy responded. “Desiree dropped off the proof of the invitations while you were at the hospital. They are absolutely stunning.” Trudy pointed towards the dining room table.I walked over and picked up the invitations. They were gorgeous,
Amelie’s POVI reach the car at the front of the building, and I’m shocked to see Marcus there. “Marcus? Why are you here?” I queried.“Here to pick you up,” he said with a smile.“I mean, aren’t you supposed to be with Nathan?” I asked.Marcus smiled and opened the back door, and Nathan’s big grin greeted me.“Nathan! You little sneak,” I snickered as I climbed into the back seat.“What? Is that how you greet your fiancée?” Nathan said, flashing his debonair smile.“Geesh… that darn Michaels smolder,” I shake my head. “If you could bottle it, you’d be a trillionaire.”“You’re a funny girl, Amelie,” Nathan stated.“It’s the truth. I swear Carrington could even woo me with his,” I laughed.“Grandfather has it stronger than me!” Nathan declared.“I wouldn’t doubt it,” I agreed. “So, who is the client we are meeting for dinner.”“Salvatore Aventini,” Nathan advised.“Like from the Aventini Mafia group?” I said, shocked.“Yes, that Salvatore Aventini,” Nathan replied. “Sometimes it's bet
Nathan’s POV“Well, I’ll have corporate draw up the transfer papers, Salvatore,” I advised. “Thank you for trusting us with more of your investments.”“How can I say no to a face like this?” Salvatore pointed at Amelie. “You better lockdown this doll.”“Already have her signed,” I answered. We shake hands and head for the car. Marcus is waiting with the door open. Once inside, I turn to Amelie.“Damn girl, what was that?” I asked.“Just using his vulnerability to my advantage,” Amelie states. “All men think with the dicks at some point. Even powerful mafia dons.”I laughed boisterously, “Amelie, you never cease to amaze me. What should we do now?”“Well, 500 million worth of new investments sounds like it's time for an ice cream celebration. What do you think?” She grinned.“Oh, you’ve earned your ice cream, that’s for sure,” I spoke. “In fact, let me buy you an ice cream company.”“Oh, Nathan, you’re so over the top,” Amelie laughed. “I just want a carton of that strawberry cheesecak
Nathan’s POVMadison sashayed her way into the apartment.“What do you want Madison?” I asked.“Nathan, where are your manners?” She stated. “Are you not going to offer me a drink?”I ran my hand through my hair, “Would you like a drink, Madison?”“I’ll have a glass of champagne if you have some, Nathan,” Madison said, smiling with her crimson-red lips.“I’ll be right back with that,” I said as I wandered into the kitchen. I grabbed a champagne glass from the cupboard and then grabbed the champagne bottle from the wine fridge. I smiled as I remembered that it was the bottle Amelie and I had shared to toast over our engagement. I popped the cork and poured a single glass of champagne. I wasn’t in the mood to share this champagne with anyone but Amelie.I walked out to the living room area, where Madison had made herself comfortable on the couch, lounging in a provocative position. I handed the champagne glass to her and stood with my arms crossed.“Aren’t you going to have a drink with
Nathan’s POVWe are in the ambulance en route to the hospital. Amelie is still unconscious, but the paramedics said that all her vitals are good. What is taking so damn long? The traffic is ridiculous right now. I swear it’s taking twice as long as usual. I hold Amelie’s hand.“Everything is going to be all right, angel,” I said, squeezing her hand.Once we arrive, they wheel her into the emergency room, and doctors are running about, trying to figure out what is going on. I’m left standing out in the emergency waiting room, pacing back and forth. I asked one of the nurses to check and see if Grandfather had been discharged from the hospital. They said Monday, potentially for his release.“Dr. Michaels,” the nurse walks over to me, “Carrington Michaels hasn’t been released yet. His doctor was called away on an emergency today, and your grandfather said he didn’t mind staying one more night."“Can you check with the VIP ward to see if he is still up? I don’t want to call and wake him i
Amelie’s POVI want to go home. I hope nothing is wrong with my head. It is throbbing right now, but it would be since the doctor told me I have eight stitches on the back of my head. Luckily, it's hidden in my hairline. They have just finished the last test, and the hospital porter is taking me back to my room in the emergency department. I really hope Nathan is waiting for me. He makes every situation feel better. We reach the emergency department, open the door to my room, and wheel me inside. There, on the chair, is Nathan, his spectacular grey eyes watching me as I am brought in. I smile and sigh, relieved he’s there.“Hi, baby,” Nathan said, smiling.“Schmoopie,” I giggled.“I’m glad the knock on your head didn’t knock your sense of humor out of you,” Nathan chuckled. He stands and pulls his chair closer to my hospital bed after the porters have left.“Are you tired, Amelie?” Nathan asked, stroking my hair.“A little, but I’d rather talk with you,” I smiled.“You need to rest. Y
Nathan’s POVI knew one thing for sure. Madison was going to pay for what she did to Amelie. Mark my words. I knew it was futile to press charges; Madison’s family was quite well-off and had built their wealth from the family law practice. The time and the resources weren’t worth the effort. Plus, I didn’t want to put Amelie through that. I know the lawyers would try to manipulate the truth and put Amelie through the smear campaign of her life. I would, however, make Madison pay. No one hurts my family. No one. Amelie was mine, and I was never going to let Madison hurt her again.I was working away in my den and had completely lost track of time when I heard a timid knock on the door.I thought it must have been Trudy, “Come in.”The door opened, and Amelie slowly walked in. “I didn’t want to disturb you, but I can’t fall asleep.”I glanced at my watch. It was 3 a.m.; how had it gotten so late? “What are you doing up walking around, though?” I scowled. “You need to relax, Amelie. Plu
Nathan’s POVIt was all over the media how Amelie had basically saved the day with the plane crash. I was so proud of her. My Amelie deserved to be recognized for her caring nature. The flight home to New York went smoothly. I kept a constant eye on all three ladies for any trauma reactions from flying again, but they were all occupied talking about the party tomorrow. Kimmy was saying how she had bought the perfect outfit for Amelie for the lingerie and PJ party. I was a little nervous as I knew Kimmy, and I honestly didn’t want any guys seeing anything they shouldn’t be seeing.Amelie had been texting back and forth between her and Zander throughout the entire flight. He was so worried about her. Zander had seen all the RIP messages on her Instagram and had freaked out. Luckily, Dante and Dutton were with him. They had told him she was safe as soon as I had texted them last night. He had tried to reach out to Amelie, but unfortunately, she had forgotten to turn her phone back on aft
Nathan’s POVAfter eating last night, both Amelie and I were exhausted. We snuggled into bed, and Amelie fell asleep almost immediately. She definitely had a trying day and deserved the rest. I ended up staying up a bit and working on my phone. Amelie was lying on my chest and snoring like a little kitten. Amelie’s Instagram now has up to 110,000 followers. Many people are leaving RIP comments since the rescue hasn’t been announced yet. Roy said they would be announcing it at 9 am tomorrow. He asked if Amelie could be there, but I don’t know if I’ll tell her. I also messaged Dr. Yvonne and asked if there was any way possible for her to make an after-hours call to the apartment. I explained the situation, hoping that she could make an exception. Finally, I contacted the bakery to ask if they could bring the cake testing to our penthouse as well. Then I finally went to sleep.Amelie’s POVI slept like a baby. I was so comfortable and so warm and toasty. Then I realized why. At some poin
Nathan’s POVI was pacing the room while Amelie was in the shower. Should I really tell her I love her tonight? Is it the wrong move? She literally just got out of a traumatic experience. Maybe it would be too much for her to handle. What if she didn’t feel the same way? Would she still want to marry me? Fuck. I hadn’t even thought of that before. My thoughts were interrupted by Amelie walking out of the bathroom in her robe. She was towel-drying her hair, and I couldn't believe that such a mundane thing was sexy.“How was the shower?” I asked.“It was AMAZING,” Amelie replied. “Definitely in the top five of showers.” She giggled and scrunched up her nose.Fuck. She is so cute that it's almost painful.“I had Trudy pack up a bag for you. It will be on the plane tomorrow morning,” I stated.“Nathan, you didn’t have to do that,” Amelie chastised me.“Amelie, when we get back to New York, there is going to be paparazzi,” I advised. “I thought you might want to change.”“I guess you’re ri
Nathan’s POVHearing and feeling Amelie moan into my mouth made me instantly hard. Great, now I have to walk through the emergency ward with a giant bulge in my pants.“Oh, there’s the check-in desk,” Amelie stated. “I bet they have information on Thomas and Nancy.”Amelie walked up to the desk. “Good Evening, we were in the helicopter that brought in Thomas and Nancy, ummmm,” Amelie said.“Thomas and Nancy Franklin,” I added.“Oh yes, you must be Dr. Michaels and Ms. Cavanaugh,” the desk receptionist acknowledged.“Do you have any idea if they have been seen?” Amelie asked. “I’m very worried about them.”“If you can have a seat, I’ll ask around and let you know as soon as possible. Don’t worry dear, they are in good hands,” she advised us.“Thank you so much for your help,” Amelie said with a smile as she turned to sit down.I followed her over to the seats. She looked really worried. I grabbed her hand, “They are both going to be fine, Amelie,” I reassured her.“I just don’t like it
Nathan’s POVI don’t want to let go of Amelie’s hand. I have a certain sense of calm when I can touch her. It feels like I have my missing piece. We’re getting close to the Historical site, and I know that I will have to stop holding her hand for even a few minutes as we get out of the helicopter. When you stand face to face with the possibility of losing the person who has your heart, it changes you. It makes everything so much clearer. I’m going to tell her that I love her tonight. We reached the rescue base, and I relinquished Amelie’s hand. I quickly alighted from the helicopter and circled over to Amelie’s door as she was opening it. I helped her out and then intertwined our fingers back together.A smiling Roy greeted us. “Well, this is the best outcome anyone could have hoped for,” Roy declared and turned to Amelie. “I hear we have you to thank for that little lady. Textbook survival skills.”“Thank you,” Amelie smiled. “Just trying to keep a level head and keep everyone calm.”
Nathan’s POVWhen she smiled down at me, I thought my heart was going to burst from excitement. I have never wanted something more in my life like I did Amelie. I wanted to declare my love for her right then and there, but everyone already thought we were in love.“Are you ok, kitten?” I yelled.“I’m better now that you are here, Schmoopie,” Amelie called back.“Did you think I wouldn’t come for you?” I declared.“No, I knew you would,” Amelie smiled.“Always,” I declared.“Oh god, you guys are making me sick,” Kimmy teased.“Right? I thought I was the only one,” Morgan giggled.Everyone broke out in laughter.“Rescue one to Moneybags. Can you shine your spotlight straight up for the exact location,” a voice came over the radio.“Roger that,” Kirk responded and pointed the spotlight straight into the air.“We have visual on you,” the voice spoke. “Do you have a count on the recovery?”“Affirmative. Two injured and three non-injured,” Kirk relayed. The rescue helicopter appeared overhe
Amelie’s POVMy heart sank. I thought they hadn’t seen the flare, so I shot a second one and waited. Then I heard it. The sound of a helicopter coming closer.“Morgan!” I shouted. “The helicopter is getting closer!”“Fuck yes!” Morgan yelled. Then she ran off to wake up Kimmy.I then saw the spotlight searching the ground. It finally landed on the tail of the plane. Then, the spotlight moved along the body of the plane until it landed on me. I waved frantically. I grinned so widely that I thought my face was going to break. My prayers had been answered.A voice came from the helicopter. Even though they were using a megaphone, I had to strain to hear it over the sound of the helicopter.“We will get you out as soon as possible,” the voice spoke. “We just need to find a place to land nearby. We’ve called for the rescue helicopter.”The helicopter turned and circled away.“Let’s close the door until they come back,” I advised Morgan. “We don’t want to lose too much heat from the plane.”
Nathan’s POVWe’ve been flying back and forth on the grid for 1 ½ hours. We haven’t seen a single clue of where they could be. It’s starting to get dark. I can see the brilliant orange and pink hues of sunset starting to appear across the sky. They are a beautiful warning that we are running out of time for today's search. How can something so spectacular bring me such a feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach?“Dr. Michaels, we have about 30 minutes before we have to call off the search,” James spoke.“Push it as long as you can,” I replied. “I want every single second used.”“Yes, sir,” James answered. We continue for another 15 minutes before something is radioed in. A plane wing has been spotted floating in a part of the lake.My heart sinks to my stomach.No. It can’t be. I won’t accept it until I see the plane for myself.“They just sent me the coordinates, Dr. Michaels,” the location specialist Miguel said, “Do you want to head over there or continue on our search?”I have an
Amelie’s POVI’ve makeshift set Nancy’s ankle and fashioned a sling out of a ripped bed sheet for Captain Thomas. The extra credit first aid & survival training I took in high school sure came in handy today. Both Nancy and Thomas are lying on the bed in the back of the plane. They need to relax and stay calm. I gave them some painkillers I had in my bag, hoping they would get some sleep. We have all tried to get reception on our phones to no avail. I even tried the radio in the flight deck.I managed to open the outside door of the plane and made sure it closed back up. If no one finds us right away, it could be a very cold night. Luckily, Kimmy found some extra blankets and towels in the bedroom. I’ve located the flares onboard. There are only three. I doubt anyone would see them during the day. I’m going to hold off on shooting them until it's dark out. It’s cold and snowy, but I’m so grateful that I listened to Nathan and dressed like a snow bunny. I giggled to myself.Oh, Nathan
