As the car moves, my brows were vaulted as I glare on the road. When my sight alighted on the rearview mirror, I caught the guy beholding me.
“You okay?” he asked.
I don’t know what to say. I just avoided his gaze and looked at outside the window. Then, I heard him scoff.
“That’s how you express gratitude?” the guy playfully queried. And when I looked back the mirror, he’s still staring at me and he even beamed. “I’m Damon, by the way…” he said and offered his hand which I just looked at.
Do I look like I asked for it?
“Okay,” I shortly answered. And then, the silence covered the place again. “Oh, by the way…” I suddenly remembered.
It felt weird when our eyes met when he faced me and his brows raised. “Uhm?” His lips formed a smile. Is he playing with me now?
I asked, “That gun earlier, is it---”
“Real?” he answered in abrupt. He took out the gun and I was staring blankly at him, not until he placed it against his right temple.
My eyes enlarged. “Hey?!”
“Worried?” he teased me.
And when I realized I acted strange, I sat straight and just looked on the road. I just heard him chuckle and I felt how my cheeks burned in embarrassment.
“It’d be better if it’s real,” I muttered in sarcasm. After some moments, I realized something. “How can I repay you?”
I don’t like the feeling of owing something from someone else. It makes me feel throttled.
“If it’s money, let me pay for it next time…” I said. I couldn’t pay him now.
“You don’t have to,” he mumbled, chuckling.
If I’m like others, his words must calm me. But I’m not them. I brutally loathe this feeling. I stayed quiet for a while as I think of what I could give to him.
Then, I thought of something I am not sure if I will regret later.
“Where do you live---” he asked, but he didn’t continue his words when I leaned near him and I kissed his soft red lips.
“Stop the car,” I whispered as my hands move from his face down to his chest.
From my peripheral vision, I saw how he took his hands off the steering wheel and his hand started crawling over my back. Hurriedly, the mood inside his car turned fiery as we caress every corner of each other’s body. He then lifted my body and placed me above him. I could already feel his huge member converging my warm quim.
My fingers snaked from his jaws, through his neck and his body. I saw how he grinned, so I slowly took off his black polo shirt and his fine physique greeted me. Bit by bit, I inclined near his face and beside his sweltering ears, I hissed, “I will bring you to haven tonight.”
We made out along the heated evening and he even drove me to the road near our area, but of course, I didn’t let him know where I was living.
"Are you okay?!” Celine asked as she sits beside me.
As a response, I nodded while I was staring blankly on the glass of margarita I was drinking, thinking about what happened last night even though I should’ve just put that out of my mind as the usual encounter with men.
But I don’t know why can’t I forget about it.
“Your man brought you something. I left it inside your locker,” she blabbered.
With mere confusion, I asked, “My man?”
Celine giggled. “Toby!” She hit my arm. “Not unless you have another man!”
I rolled my eyes. “I don’t need them!”
And while we’re talking, a brown-haired young guy wrapped his arm around Gia and the lady just smiled at me as they walk away.
I will also leave work early. It’s my Mom’s birthday today. Though I know she won’t be glad to see me in our home.
As I opened the locker to get my bag, I noticed that there’s an umbrella inside it. I took it and there, I’ve read a note attached, “Don’t catch a cold, Gia!” It was from Toby. I sneered reading his corny message.
After work, I went to the mall for I was planning to get my Mom a bag, but when I passed by Il Cielo, a well-known perfume brand, I couldn’t resist the urge to go inside. Besides, Aunt Emily told me that Mom used to love perfumes when she was younger.
The staffs warmly welcomed me so I smiled a bit and started sniffing those scent strips, trying to find what my Mom would love.
But what does she like though? I’m not even sure.
While I was gaping over the shelves of perfume, I then realized that I was standing before a very familiar man from the other side.
It was Damon!
Before he could see me, I bowed down and slyly walked out of the line of shelves. But at the end of it, I was interrupted when I realized I was staring at the bulge of a guy who stopped walking because of me too.
I gulped as I look up. And I was startled when his smile greeted me.
“What are you doing here?!” he exclaimed.
With what I’ve heard, I was gravely offended. Do I look like I can’t afford these stuffs?
“Excuse me, I can buy these---” I cut my own words when I saw a price tag on the rose-colored perfume I randomly picked. “Oh, it’s only---” I just raised my brow and put it down.
Then I saw him annoyingly grinning while staring at me.
"Why are you following me?!” I acted out. I saw how his brows furrowed. “Guard, this dude’s stalking me!”
Immediately, the guard went near us. So, I playfully looked at him.
“Sir, what’s happening here?” My eyes enlarged when the security asked him.
“This girl’s following me,” Damon whispered as if I didn’t hear it.
“Hey you---” Before I could finish it, I was dragged out of the store.
In the end, I just bought a cheaper perfume from other stall. I was excited to hand this to her. As I went home, I saw how my Mom’s grimace changed when she saw me. She’s drinking with Aunt Emily. But regardless, I walked to her and gave her my little gift.
“Happy Birthday, Mom!” I warmly greeted her and beamed.
Without any excitement, she took and opened it. But Aunt Emily and I was shocked when she suddenly turned hysterical and threw it on the floor, creating an earsplitting sound of shattered glass.
My jaw dropped as I try to save the left fragrance on it. Deep down my heart, I felt like I was more shattered than this fragile bottle.
With my eyes starting to well up, I couldn’t help but yell, “What’s with you, Mom? I saved my money for this and look what you’ve---”
“Why would you… always remind me of that nightmare?!” she bellowed which made my heart explode even ruthless.
It was already dusk when I went to the Blue Apple. And after I finished my first session, I was jumbled when every worker in the pub seems like they’re in panic. They were walking fast across the hall and they’re even mouthing to each other.“What’s happening?” I cluelessly asked Jen, a co-worker of mine. Before I could get an answer, I heard Celine’s voice from behind.“Sir Atlas has been furiously looking for you, Gia. What did you do?” Celine worriedly asked me as she walks towards my direction. My brows bowed. Instead of asking her anything, I just went straight to Sir Atlas’ office and there, I saw all the employees bowing their head, seems like they’re scolded. As soon as I stood inside his chamber, a pile of folder flew over my direction, but I luckily dodged it. Sir Atlas threw it and his face says how he feel.“Didn’t I tell you to not break my rules?!” Sir Atlas howled and everyone in the room was utterly terrified, but since I was ill-informed, I remained staring at him. “W
I decided to go back to the pub, not only because of the money I earn there, but also because I don’t want to meet that guy again. For sure, Sir Atlas will be surprised that I’ll be here despite of being suspended but I don’t care that much. “It’s so funny, right?” I heard a familiar voice of a woman inside the locker area, she’s talking to someone else and they’re both sniggering. “They believed my lies just like that.” “So, you’re telling me it’s you who put a dagger and cocaine in Gia’s locker?” "Exactly! And look at her now, she’s---” “You really thought I’m gone?” Before I let her finish, I entered the room and I saw their startled look. “G-Gia?” Celine stuttered. Even though I don’t trust anyone at all, I can’t help but admit that I did not expect Celine to do this to me. It’s been nine years since we met here in the pub. So, I didn’t think of her doing me dirty like this. "What? Did you enjoy your show?” I sarcastically asked her. Our other co-worker who’s been with her
“I don’t want to feel like I need to be saved.”With a blank expression on my face, I told Toby then I gulped on the bottle of beer we’re drinking. He just looked at me for a second and he once again poured his gaze on the lofty buildings right before us.We are now at the rooftop of the publishing house where my friend is working at. For how many years, this has been our go-to place whenever I don’t know what to feel. Whenever I am sad or burnt out, I just can’t explain how I can I simply find myself lying down on a rooftop.I don’t know either. Just by solely resting here and gazing over the serenity of stars, I can somehow feel at peace… even for a temporal moment. Mayhap, only the stars are the ones who won’t judge me even when I look so horrible, like I do now.And maybe in these stars, I can whisper all the things I can’t easily tell other people. And through them, I can see something that won’t hesitate to shine on me, when I, myself, can’t lit up my own little world within me.
With my barely cold and pallid hands, I nonchalantly left my hair on a high ponytail as I saunter over the crowd around me. I just came out of the bathroom after my session with another businessman whom Sir Atlas is friends with. The thunderous sound in The Blue Apple is due to the event that Sir Atlas held this night. It fuels the headache I’m already dealing with since early this day. And aside from that, there are bands playing incessantly; and more than the usual, there are renowned icons in our pub.Though it is not actually a new thing for us, since The Blue Apple is actually one of the recognized hostelry in Anbridge City. Aside from the celebrities going here, there are also politicians and wealthy business owners visiting us regularly. It is not surprising that the Blue Apple really grew much bigger since the first time that Sir Atlas brought me here and I’ve started working.I sat on the vacant seat of the front bar, right before Leo, the Blue Apple’s well-skilled bartender.
“Are you avoiding me?” I heard Damon asked me from my back.Albeit the distress I am caging within me, I tried to compose myself before I faced the guy. And I was right, it was really Damon. He’s now sipping on a wine glass while he’s mischievously gazing at me. Then he put it down as he throws me a smirk which get into my nerves.Does he think I’m here to play with him? We’re not even close, aren’t we? So, who does he think he is, to waste my time like this?“Why would I?” I monotonously asked the guy who’s now trying to loosen his necktie, gape’s still sticked on me.If he’s thinking that he’ll intimidate me by doing this, then he’s mistaken. I’m not like any other girl he had before if they were all caught through his tactics.“Then why did you kissed that man a while ago after you saw me?” Damon started to become more annoying than he already was. He began stepping his feet towards my direction which made me more disgusted of him. What does he think he’s doing, huh?“Why do you ca
After what happened between me and Damon at the rooftop, I then fixed myself and acted as if nothing happened. That’s what he did, as well.I couldn’t even understand why he’s still smiling now. He released his seeds already, isn’t he supposed to be leaving me alone now that he got what he wanted? I am sure it’s just my body which he craves for, and nothing else.“What?” I asked him, annoyed by how he’s looking like right now. It seems like he’s still teasing me or whatsoever.Instead of answering me, he let out a chuckle as if I’m here playing with him again.“You already got what you want. You may leave now,” I monotonously blurted out. But he was just looking at me as he beams me an indeed weird smile I didn’t wish to witness now.“Are you really like this people?” Damon questioned in curiosity.“What do you mean?” I replied while fixing my messy hair. I couldn’t hide my infuriation now. Not just with my facial expression, but also through the tone of my voice.I actually don’t eve
After I accompanied Toby home, I don’t feel like going back to the pub anymore. I still have work to do tonight but I can't figure out why I seem to have lost the energy to do all of that.I head straight to our house, exhausted, as I always am. But I can’t get tired because we are not as privileged as other adults. I can’t lie down on my bed and money will just fall over my face. I know that regardless of how tired I am, I have to show up.It is so difficult to swallow that the only thing that motivates me to continue is because I know we’re not rich and I have to strain my own body to earn. Miserable life, isn’t it?As soon as I opened the door, I’ve already seen Aunt Emily sitting on the couch, watching her favorite show.“Oh, Gia. You’re home early? Did your office close at this hour?” Aunt Emily asked and I just nodded due to my weary body. All through these years, they still didn’t know I am really working on a pub, and not in an office. I can’t admit it to them, so I guess it’l
“Are you sure you’re not joining us?” I heard my Mom asking Aunt Emily for the last time.I was fixing my bag above the dining table when I eavesdropped on their not-so-quiet conversation. From my peripheral vision, I witnessed how Aunt Emily just nodded. She even tapped my Mom’s shoulder to assure her more.“Gia will surely take care of you,” my Aunt tried to comfort her one more time, and I saw how Mom went out the doorway, leaving us alone.I am so sure my Mom was also worried about us being left alone together. Because honestly speaking, this is the very first time I went out with her. We tried to visit a really few places when I was young, but it was all with Aunt, and I actually had no alone time with my own mother while growing up.So, it is not surprising that she’s just as anxious as me. But I can’t deny how I feel excited and paranoid at the same time. I don’t want to ruin her day, just like she usually tells me. I hope I won’t, though. When I finished arranging my things, I
As I received the message from my coworkers that Toby was looking for me at the reception table, a knot formed in the pit of my stomach. I hadn't expected him to seek me out after the tense encounter with Alora, and I wasn't sure if I was ready to face him.Part of me wanted to avoid the situation altogether, to spare Toby the discomfort of seeing me after what had happened. I didn't want him to feel guilty or responsible for his sister's words, nor did I want him to pity me. I prided myself on my resilience and independence, and I didn't want to be seen as weak or in need of sympathy. But deep down, I knew that I couldn't ignore Toby's request. He was my friend, and he deserved an explanation for my abrupt departure from his birthday celebration. And so, with a heavy heart, I made my way to the reception table, steeling myself for the conversation that lay ahead. As I approached, I could see Toby waiting for me, his expression a mix of concern and apprehension. I forced a smile onto
As Toby and I sat at the table, enjoying a meal together to celebrate his birthday, the atmosphere was vibrant with laughter and the clinking of glasses. We were engrossed in animated conversation, reminiscing about old times and sharing stories of our adventures, when suddenly, the door swung open and Toby's sister, Alora, stepped into the restaurant.I felt a pang of unease wash over me as I saw her approach our table, her expression unreadable as she took a seat beside her brother. Despite my best efforts to maintain a façade of calm, I couldn't shake the feeling of apprehension that settled over me like a dark cloud.Alora's presence was like a shadow looming over our table, casting a pall over the cheerful atmosphere that had prevailed just moments before. I could feel her disapproving gaze boring into me, her eyes narrowed with suspicion as she surveyed me from across the table.I tried to ignore her scrutiny, focusing instead on my meal and engaging in light conversation with T
As I stepped out of the Blue Apple Pub, weary from a long day's work, I was greeted by the sight of my friend Toby running towards me, a wide grin plastered across his face. His excitement was palpable, infectious even, and I couldn't help but feel a smile tug at the corners of my lips in response."What's got you so happy?" I asked, curiosity piqued as I watched Toby approach. He chuckled, a mischievous twinkle in his eye as he replied, "Guess."I furrowed my brow, trying to recall if there was something special happening today that I might have forgotten. But try as I might, nothing came to mind. "I don't know," I admitted with a shrug. "What's the occasion?"Toby's grin widened even further as he leaned in close, as if he were about to share a secret. "It's my birthday tomorrow!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with mock indignation. "And here I thought you were my best friend."I couldn't help but laugh at his theatrics, relieved to discover that the cause of his excitement was not
The neon lights of the city blurred together in a kaleidoscope of colors as I made my way through the bustling streets, the sound of laughter and music echoing in my ears like a distant melody. It was just another night in the city, a blur of faces and voices blending into the background as I sought solace in the anonymity of the crowd.I didn't know what I was looking for, didn't know what I hoped to find in the dimly lit clubs and bars that lined the streets like beacons in the night. All I knew was that I needed to escape, needed to drown out the noise of my thoughts with the pounding beat of the music and the burn of alcohol on my tongue. So I slipped into the nearest club, the bass thumping in my chest as I made my way to the bar and ordered a drink. The bartender flashed me a knowing smile as he poured me a glass of whiskey, his eyes filled with a silent understanding that spoke volumes without a word.I took a sip of the burning liquid, relishing the way it seared my throat as
The tension in the air crackled like electricity as Damon and Sir Felix faced off, their voices rising in a heated argument that echoed through the pub like thunder. I watched with a sense of unease as the two men clashed, their sharp jaws and steely gazes betraying the intensity of their emotions."I won't let you take her," Damon growled, his voice low and dangerous as he squared off against Sir Felix. "She's not your property, and she doesn't belong to anyone."Sir Felix's eyes narrowed at Damon's words, his lips curling into a disdainful sneer as he met his adversary's gaze with a steely resolve of his own. "She belongs to me," he countered, his voice cold and authoritative. "And I won't let you stand in my way."As their argument raged on, the tension in the pub reached a fever pitch, the air thick with anticipation as everyone waited to see how the confrontation would unfold. But before the situation could escalate any further, a new voice cut through the chaos like a knife."Wh
As Damon and I made our way towards the exit of the pub, our path was suddenly blocked by the imposing figure of Sir Felix, flanked by his bodyguards like silent sentinels of power. The air grew tense as all eyes turned towards the future mayor, a hush falling over the pub as if in deference to his presence."Miss Gia," Sir Felix said, his voice smooth and calculated, his eyes fixed on me with a gaze that sent a shiver down my spine. "I believe we have some unfinished business to attend to."I felt Damon stiffen beside me, his jaw clenching in silent fury as he moved to stand protectively in front of me, a silent barrier between Sir Felix and myself. I could see the anger burning in his eyes, a fire that threatened to consume him as he faced off against the future mayor with a steely resolve that made my heart race with anticipation. But Sir Felix remained unfazed by Damon's defiance, his lips curled into a cruel smirk as he motioned for his bodyguards to stand down. "Come now, Miss G
As the night wore on, I found myself immersed in the hustle and bustle of the Blue Apple, the familiar rhythm of the pub's atmosphere serving as a comforting backdrop to the chaos that unfolded around me. But amidst the laughter and chatter of the patrons, there was a tension that lingered in the air, a sense of unease that clung to the shadows like a veil.Damon's unexpected presence only served to heighten the tension, his easy charm and affable demeanor drawing curious glances from the other staff members as they whispered amongst themselves in hushed tones. I could feel their eyes on me, their silent scrutiny weighing heavily on my shoulders as I went about my duties with a forced smile plastered on my face."Who's the guy with the coffee sitting at the bar?" one of the servers whispered to me as she passed by, her voice barely audible over the din of the crowd.I felt a surge of frustration rise within me at the question, but I forced myself to remain composed, refusing to let my
The next day dawned bright and clear, the golden rays of the sun casting a warm glow over the city as I made my way to work. As I entered the Blue Apple, I couldn't shake the feeling of anticipation that fluttered in my chest, a sense of curiosity about what the day might hold. But as I stepped through the door, my eyes widened in surprise at the sight that greeted me. There, sitting at the bar with a cup of coffee in hand, was Damon, his expression serene as he exchanged pleasantries with Leo, the bartender.I blinked in disbelief, unable to shake the sense of astonishment that washed over me at the sight of Damon's early arrival. It was rare enough for patrons to visit the pub at such an early hour, let alone someone like Damon, whose presence seemed to command attention wherever he went.As I made my way towards the bar, I couldn't help but notice the curious glances that were exchanged between the other staff members, their whispers barely audible over the soft murmur of conversat
As Toby and I walked along the dimly lit streets, the night air cool against our skin, a sense of unease settled over me like a heavy shroud. I couldn't shake the feeling of guilt that gnawed at the edges of my mind, knowing that I had left Damon behind at the Blue Apple, his disappointed gaze haunting me with each step I took. But as Toby's voice cut through the silence, breaking me out of my reverie, I pushed aside my inner turmoil and forced a smile, determined to maintain the facade of indifference that I had carefully constructed."So, what's the deal with you and Damon?" Toby asked, his tone casual as he glanced over at me, his eyes searching mine for any hint of emotion.I felt a surge of panic rise within me at his question, my mind racing as I scrambled to find the right words to deflect his inquiry. "What do you mean?" I replied, my voice carefully neutral as I avoided his gaze, my heart pounding in my chest.Toby chuckled softly, his amusement evident as he shook his head i
