Chapter 4. To Avenge You

last update Last Updated: 2025-01-28 15:07:59

VERA

I headed outside the huge empty villa and no one stopped me. Obviously, the owner lived alone and didn't have any working staff around this place.

Even the gates were automatic and it opened right when I appeared in front and closed right after. I walked away without looking back or waiting to say thank you to the man who got me out of jail.

Reaching the busy streets, I recalled that I didn't have any money on me to board a taxi to my location. I frowned, looking at where Francis put me. Being unable to cater for my own bills. The future heiress to the Andres family fortune.

I walked down the busy cold street and I counted the moments until the road went dark and the crickets started to cry. It was already nighttime and I hadn't even half the way to the graveyard yet. Or, I didn't even know the way there from here.

I continued to walk until I started to feel exhausted and drained, although my mind was starting to clear off the fact that I was an ex-convict. The man I loved had sent me into prison under the pretense that I was his sister.

The pain my body has passed through just yesterday from sleeping on the cold floor and eating those meals made me weak.

I decided to return back to the mansion, having nowhere to go to. I felt so disappointed in myself, I couldn't even afford to visit grandpa.

It was just as if the whole world had a beef with me, a loud thunderclap sounded and it began to rain shortly. I ran quickly to find somewhere to stay until the rain stopped.

The night became darker and my view blurred. I suddenly recalled that I hadn't eaten anything all day and I was so hungry.

The rain lasted for a long while before it reduced, and I hurried my steps back to the mansion. I walked for about thirty minutes, realizing that I'd missed my way. I left there when the day was barely dark, and right now all I could see was darkness, making me unable to recall the route back..

I was lost, tired, cold, hungry and exhausted. My brain wasn't even functioning properly anymore. I felt a little dizzy too. I could only force myself to keep going.

From afar, I noticed the headlights of a car approaching where I was and I stopped walking. The street was totally empty and I was the only one there, this made me completely scared of getting kidnapped.

I started to run with the last strength I have in me, even though I ran as fast as I could, I couldn't beat the speed of a car. He pulled by me on the roadside, blocking my movements and I halted by force.

The door opened and the man walked out of the car. I looked at him, recalling that he was the same man I had seen when I passed out before. Why was this happening to me again? Feeling dizzy whenever I see him.

I couldn't control the movement of my legs and my body was equally weak. Just when he approached me, I fell on him. His hands caressed my back as he grabbed me quickly in his arms, preventing me from falling.

Surprisingly, I regained my strength and I quickly pushed him off me. “Let go of me, Who are you and what do you want from me?” I asked him in a stern tone. He wasn't concerned by my actions, all he wanted to do was to get me into his car by all means. Even when I fought him hard, I couldn't overpower him.

In no time, he carried me on his shoulders and into the car, forcing the seatbelt over me. He was mute all through his actions.

“Stay away from me you bastard. Let me out of here” I struggled, trying to get the door open and leave the car but I was already locked inside by him.

He was inside with me now and on the driver's seat preparing to drive us off. I stood my ground and demanded to be allowed to go. Even though I know that he was my only hope, I still wanted to bargain and find out why a total stranger would help me.

“Avera Andres, I've helped you, you should be grateful and keep shut” his voice came out cold and stern. He turned to me, giving me the most horrifying looks ever. His eyes darkened, matching his facial expression.

Who is he? How did he know my full name? I asked myself inwardly before I could muster the courage to speak to him. “You saved me? Did I ask you to save me? What do you really want? I'm a poor woman and I have nothing to offer you” I quickly said to him.

“Oh, Avera, you indeed have a lot to offer me. And why did I save you? It is my duty and I was only carrying it out”

“What?” I scoffed in disbelief at his words and I maintained a cold stare at him.

“Your responsibility? Who the hell are you to claim me as your responsibility?” I questioned him.

“ I'm Raymond Anderson, you should remember me now” he said..

“No, I do not know anyone with that name” I responded. However, I couldn't deny within me that his name did ring a bell. I just couldn't remember where I heard it.

I looked at him with so much hatred, he was such a coward for trying to force me into being his.

“I do not know you, now let me out of here” I responded.

“Avera, you didn't only run away a night before our wedding, you even got married to your lover, got framed and arrested for fraud and you're still unwilling to go with me? Am I that despicable?” He questioned.

His words were confusing, how did I run away from him? I looked at him properly, trying to recall where I've seen him before and how he managed to know about my past.

Raymond Anderson, my arranged fiance..

I suddenly remembered who he was. I've never been chanced to meet him in person back then. Anytime I was asked to visit him, I would go to Francis's rather.

So, I didn't know how he looked. “B– by any chance are you?” I stuttered and was unable to complete my words when I passed out..
