Things were different in the Stewart household. Will wasn’t as sullen as normal, and he been seen smiling more often. His office staff had noticed the change in his demeanor as well. Grace tried to capitalize on the upswing in his mood, but she wasn’t the source of his contentment. Not directly at least. He had become more attentive and wasn’t repulsed by any physical contact from her. She had been able to hug without feeling him stiffen at her touch. And Grace would take whatever victories she could get.

He started working from home more, so that he could be close by if she needed anything. Once his parents hired the nanny, he’d be able to go back to the office.

“I was thinking,” Will started at breakfast. “If it’s a boy, I’d like to name him for Pop.”

“Oh?” Grace looked up. “You don’t want a William Junior?”

“Ugh, no.”

“You don’t think Conrad is a heavy name for a baby?” Grace scrunched her nose in disagreement.

“Not at all. It’s a strong name.”

“I didn’t think this through well enough,” Grace said as she looked at her very flat belly. It was getting obvious that she wasn’t pregnant. That stupid nanny certainly seemed to suspect it. She had to make another plan. But what? “Mrs. Stewart?” Minnie called. “What?” “Time for your prenatals. Not that it seems to you need them. Yours may be the best pregnancy I’ve ever tended to. I’ve never seen someone have it so easy.” “Just give me them. Every pregnancy is different. Shouldn’t you know that?” “I do. I also know what it looks like when someone isn’t pregnant… and is telling everyone she is. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to prepare dinner.” Minnie walked off and Grace sneered at her. “If only there were a way to solve my problem and knock that dumb bitch down a few pegs.” After mulling it over, Grace decided she’d have to feign a miscarriage. She thought about staging some kind of accident. Perhaps she would fall down the stairs or fall while walking in the garden. T

After a while, Will went back to Grace, and she looked painful. “How are you feeling?” Will sounded emotionless.“Not too bad, I guess.” Grace pretended to have a hard time supporting herself sitting up a little bit. Will didn’t help, he told her directly, “Go home.”“I cannot go home now, I’m sick.” Grace felt wronged. “Go! I’ll see you home.!” Will’s tone was serious, so serious that was even somewhat intimidating. Will was cold, he ordered Grace like a stranger, and he didn’t even want to drive her home which made Grace worried. Grace changed and went home immediately. While she was on the way home, she thought about what Will said to her, and she was afraid that Will already knew that she faked her pregnancy. Grace got home. She opened the door, and saw Will was sitting there waiting for her. It was weird, Will didn’t yell at her or saying anything loud, but Grace still felt that something was about to happen. Something big. “You faked your pregnancy. How come I never see

Ever since Grace was thrown out of the house by Will. She spent the past few days in a hotel as she didn’t have anywhere to go. Grace felt heartbroken when Will told her that he never wanted to see her again. She didn’t understand, she used to be the love of Will’s life, how come she was replaced by an ordinary woman now? Grace couldn’t stop thinking about it. “It’s not fair to me, it’s not fair.” Grace yelled out loud, she was getting so raged. She was devoured by envy and hatred.Grace then grabbed her car key, rushed out of the door and drove to Emma’s address immediately. She had to meet Emma face to face.Grace followed the address the private investigator sent to her. She was racing during the whole trip.“You’re not getting rid of me easily, William Stewart. Let me pay your beloved ex-wife a visit before I’m gone.” Grace mumbled to herself while she was driving. She finally got to the building where Emma lived, and was waiting for Emma to show up at the parking lot. But

Emma’s words hung in the air, stopped cold by the knock on the door. Will prepared himself for another altercation with Spencer, just in case. Emma opened the door.“Hey girl! I brought you some…” Sabrina trailed off when she saw Will in the apartment. Her bouncy demeanor deflated. Anger and confusion leaked into her words. “…I brought you some things to pack in your hospital bag. So, um… what the hell is going on here?” She gestured between Emma and Will. How in the world had he found her?“How… interesting to see you here, Sabrina,” Will said with a tight smile. She narrowed her eyes at him. While Sabrina usually brought an air of intimidation around her, all Will could feel for her at that moment was betrayal. He’d ask her about one hundred times if she knew where Emma was. And clearly, she lied every time. It made him wonder if Alex knew as well. That was something that would have to be addressed at a later time.“Don’t give me that look,” Sabrina said to him. “I’m her best friend

“Dinner is served,” Will called out to Emma and Sabrina. Emma waved Sabrina away as she was still on the phone. Sabrina smiled and walked out.“She’s still on the phone,” Sabrina smirked at Will who was very bothered. “Are you okay?”“How does Alex deal with you?”“Usually by pushing me on the bed and shoving his di…”“All right! Forget I asked. Let’s just sit down.” Will pulled out a chair for Sabrina. She was surprised by the gesture, but remembered that even though he was an asshat, he had proper upbringing. Being a gentleman didn’t equal being a good partner. It meant he knew how to go through the motions. “Thanks,” she said as she took her seat. The table was small, round and sat four people. It had been set modestly with Emma’s plates and silverware. A single, long tapered candle was situated in the center in a simple, sliver candle holder. A humble arrange of flowers sat on either side. Sabrina didn’t want to admit it, but she was impressed. This was supposed to be an intimate

“Don’t panic,” Sabrina stood, taking control of the situation. “The go bag is already packed. I’ll call the doctor and then Spencer on the way there.” She delegated. “No!” Will yelled. “Why him? Why does he get to be a part of this? Why do you need him and not me?” “You’re driving,” Sabrina called to him. “Get her to the car!” Will held his hand out to Emma and she moved away from him. “Don’t touch me,” she breathed through the pain, cowering away from him. “You two are not going to do this right now!” Sabrina yelled. “Emma, go with him. I’ll be right down.” “I don’t want to,” Emma cried. The pain was becoming unbearable, but Emma didn’t want to move. “Emma!” Sabrina yelled. “You don’t have a choice! Will, take her.” “No!” Emma yelled back. At that point, she wasn’t even sure why she was fighting it so hard. She knew she had to go to the hospital. But she didn’t want Will to touch her. It was the hardest memory for her to let go of. His touch, the feeling of his skin against

Sabrina was walking back to the room with a large Styrofoam cup of ice chips. Emma wasn’t allowed to eat until the baby came. But she was allowed to munch on ice chips. As she walked towards the room, she bumped into Spencer, who looked like someone had kicked his puppy. “Hey, hey, hey,” she stopped him. “Where are you going?” “I, um… I’m going home.” “Did you go in to see Emma? She’s going to ask for you.” “No, I didn’t. Her and Will were having… a moment. I didn’t want to interrupt.” Sabrina rolled her eyes and let out a loud sigh. “Why does it feel like I’m the only functional adult among us?” “It’s a huge burden, but someone has to carry it,” Spencer laughed, but the sound was sad. “Sabrina, do you think they’ll get back together?” “To tell you the truth, I don’t know. Emma says she doesn’t want a relationship with anyone. Will is that child’s father, so he’s going to be around. But that doesn’t mean he’s going to be in her life in any other way. You could still have a cha

“Is… everything okay, Will?” Sabrina asked. His stance was rigid, as thought something else had taken hold of him. “Yeah, it’s fine,” he answered. “It’s just… I want to be good enough for her. I need to be good enough for her.” He was thrilled to be a father, but terror had crept into his heart. There was more to it than just loving her. He was her protector, her knight. Every man in her life would be compared to him. Her life was in his hands. It was a huge responsibility and he feared he wasn’t enough. “Will…,” Sabrina reached out and touched his shoulder. “That fact that you care like this, means you will be. Is anything else wrong?” “No, nothing.” A nurse walked toward the bassinet and picked up Lizzie. She smiled at them, and nodded, indicating that she was taking the baby back to the room. “See you there?” Sabrina asked. “Yeah, later.” Meanwhile, in Emma’s room, Emmett was gushing about his grandchild. The nurse had come in and placed her in Emma’s arms. “Look at her!

Six months later “Stewart Industries Landmark building construction was completed today. The twenty-story building boasts retail, commercial, and event space. The impressive building has already become a hallmark of the city with a silver tower as its crown. Glass windows glisten in the sun. And anyone in the city can enjoy the gorgeous public park that surrounds it. It is a gorgeous and shining collaboration of the best and freshest minds in the city. William Stewart has named the structure, ‘The Conrad Tower,’ in honor of his beloved late grandfather. The city awaits now for the building to open and for all the new opportunities it will create. This has been Susanne Winters for Channel 16 news.” They all cheered and toasted the completion of the building, gathered around Will and Emma’s living room. “Here’s to The Conrad Tower!” Will raised his glass. “And to all the people that helped make it possible! I wouldn’t have been able to do this without you all. Thank you.” They raised

The high from the success of the show had worn off, and Will felt himself spiraling. His pulse quickened; a sheen of cold sweat sprouted on his forehead. He held it together the best he could while around others. But alone, with nothing but his memories to accompany him… it was always the worst. As he arrived home and prepared himself for another lonely night, he was greeted by something unexpected. A large truck was parked in front of his home. Men moved in and out of it, bringing things inside.“…The fuck?” he muttered as he parked his car. “Excuse me,” he called out to them. “This is my home. What are you doing here?”“I hired them,” a voice said from the doorway of the house. He looked over towards the familiar voice, not daring to believe it. But there she was, bathed in the light from inside the house. “Hi, Will. I’m sorry if I startled you, but I w

Their days were filled with appointments. Every time they turned around, there was somewhere to be. Will had been discharged and had the company to take care of. With the building finally underway, Stewart Industries was thriving again. It was a rare moment that he got time to himself. And even when he did, everyone else was busy with their own hectic lives. Will floated around his giant, empty home. He went to work, came home, did his physical therapy exercises, and went to sleep. Alone. He found, in recent days, that alone was not a good place for him to be. Nightmares plagued his sleep, and he jumped at the slightest noises. Monsters had moved from under the bed and in the shadows to inside his mind.He hated it.Emma hadn’t been able to make good on her promise to move back. Things were hectic, and no one had time for anyone anymore. It had been almost two weeks before he saw anyone. They all called and messaged each other, but it wasn&rs

Will’s recovery was slow. The doctors had informed him that taking that bullet as such close range did a lot of damage, but it was the reason he wasn’t dead as nothing major was hit. He wasn’t out of the woods yet and would need a good round of physical therapy. The medical staff agreed that he needed to stay in the hospital for at least a week so they could monitor him. Emma and Alex fussed over him, making sure he listened and did everything according to the doctor’s orders. On the fourth day, he was restless and just wanted to leave. Alex was in the room with him, telling him off for not listening.“You’re being a brat,” Alex scolded him.“I just want to get out of this bed,” Will whined.“Try getting out again, and I’ll break both your legs.”“How very Mafia of you,” Will smirked.“Shut up,” Alex swatted at

Chaos exploded around them. Shouts and screams filled the air as Captain Whitlock ordered that Ghost be apprehended and an ambulance be called. Ghost dropped his gun and raised his hand in surrender as his fantasy came to life right before his eyes.“Beautiful!” he said over the din. “It’s more beautiful than I could ever imagine.”“Shut up,” Captain Whitlock spat as he wrenched Ghost’s hands behind his back. “You’re going to go away for a very long time. They may even make a case for the death penalty against you.”“I hope they do,” he said with a contented sigh. “I’ve done all I have ever wanted to do.”“Take this vile piece of shit. And read him his rights. This arrest needs to be perfect. I swear if this fucker gets out on a technicality, I’ll fire the lot of you!”An officer took Ghost a

Will turned around and the world moved in slow motion around him. About ten feet away from them, there he stood. Ghost. Denis. The man responsible for all the pitfalls in his life stood ten feet away from them, the sunlight glinting off the barrel of an ornate silver gun. How could he have been so careless?“Surprise,” Ghost sang.“How…” Will began to ask.“How did I get so close?” Ghost finished. “Without anyone noticing. Hmm…” he used the gun to scratch his temple for a moment and then pointed it back at them. “I’m the monster in the dark. The one under your bed. The one your parents warn you about. Oh wait… your parents wouldn’t warn you about anything. They’ve been trying to sacrifice you to the darkness for years,” he said with feigned contrition.“What do you want?” Will asked. His eyes darted around, looking for

They really thought they were smart, huh? They thought he would fall for their little traps. However, he couldn’t deny that they had presented him with the perfect opportunity. Will was serving himself on a silver platter. It would be so easy to just take care of him then. His ultimate fantasy could play out the way he’d always dreamt of. The very public murder of William Stewart was just something he couldn’t pass up.What reason was there even to hide anymore? They had revealed his identity. Everyone knew who he was. So, what purpose did the shadows serve him anymore? Perhaps it was time to come out into the light and end this charade. His last card against Will had been used up. He’d run out of games.“Let’s play,” he chuckled, loading his gun. “No plans. No backups. This is it.” His heart raced with elation as he envisioned a bullet ripping through Will. Hearing his loved ones cry as his body crump

The interview was a smash. The city was on high alert, and Ghost’s name was on everyone lips. The few times Sabrina went out, it’s all she could hear anyone talk about. She couldn’t help but feel a little proud. Captain Whitlock received dozens of calls and tips. Many people said how they knew Denis, and how there was no way he could be Ghost.Others said that they’re surprised they never saw the signs. Some offered clues and places that Denis used to frequent. He traipsed the city, following these clues. Most led to nothing. Just traces of an old that Ghost himself probably wouldn’t recognize. But there was one call…“Um… hi. Is this Captain Whitlock?” It was hesitant man’s voice.“Yes, how can I help you?”“I’m calling about Denis Ratcliffe.”Captain Whitlock received so many of these calls he was numb to them.

Will let the water wash over him as he tried to steady his frenzied heartbeat. The truth was that they were terrified. For Ghost to be so brazen as to just waltz into the police station and open fire did not bode well for any one of them. It was clear that Ghost was just as ready to end this as they were. He leaned his forehead against the cold tile, letting the rhythmic beating of the water of against his back soothe him.Soon enough, a shower wouldn’t be such an event. At least not the ones he took alone, anyway. Steam rolled off of skin as he emerged from the shower. Emma had laid out some clothes for him. Just a white t-shirt a pair of gray sweatpants. He laughed. Now that he was free and clean, he wanted to hold his baby.He went downstairs, back to the dining room where everyone was gathered.“Where is Lizzie?” he asked.“Right here,” Emma said. She stood behind him, holding a
