Chapter 66

Zoe watched from a distance with Avery and his siblings as the guest inn close to their main living area was demolished. She couldn’t count how many times since the process began that she had shaken her head because of how ridiculous everything was. Her eyes drifted to Mia who folded her arms with a blank expression on her face and she felt pity for her. Mia would not want to live in a house where her mother was killed.

Avery walked up to her and she turned to look at him, shaking her head again when he said nothing to her.

“This is a ridiculous decision by the way.” She spoke first and he nodded slowly, his eyes following the movement of the contractors who were driving tractors and putting on helmets. He sighed deeply and for the first time, she tried to understand his reason for doing so.

“They had the effrontery to come into my home and kill my mother in her own bedroom.” He replied. “I have to get them, Zoe. I have to get them no matter what.”

“I know.” She replied, looking away
