Chapter 33

Adrain's POV

"Hello mum," I alighted from the car and headed to the penthouse. It was rare for her to call me, especially when she had one party or outing with her friends who loved living a life of luxury. ‘Enjoying the fruits of their hard work,’ they termed it.

I regularly sent a monthly allowance to cover all she needed and then some more. She had never once complained or asked me to up the allowance since it was more than enough. I know she was not ill. So, what reason could she have for calling?

"Hello, my baby boy," her deep tender voice seemed to resonate from the phone and reaching out like an unwelcome, distorted lullaby reaching out.

"Mum, why are you calling by this time of the night? Couldn't it wait until morning?" I asked feeling a bit exhausted and impatient thanks to the long day I just had.

"Hmph... Do I need to give you reasons for calling? You're my son; I just wanted to hear how you're doing. Is that too much?......" She went on and on.
