I settled into the front seat next to Mia, who took her place behind the wheel. The atmosphere in the car was strangely silent as she drove us towards school.

After about thirty minutes, Mia parked the car right in front of the school, drawing quite a bit of attention from onlookers. I hesitated to get out, feeling uneasy about the intense stares directed our way.

But Mia stepped out of the car and walked around to my side to open the door for me. I held onto the car door, hesitant to step out just yet.

"You really didn't have to do all this, Mia," I said, my grip still holding the door shut.

A small, almost shy smile formed on her face as she stood beside me.

The urgency to contact Marcus grew stronger within me. Having Mia accompany me to school was bound to attract a lot of attention, and I couldn't shake off the unease that came with it.
