Chapter 67

NICOLE

Marcus and I slept in each other's arms until the crack of dawn.

The peacefulness of the morning was interrupted by a knock on the bedroom door, courtesy of Mia's petite figure.

Marcus groggily got up from the bed and made his way over to answer it.

Mia handed him a little note with a message she wanted to convey. As Marcus read it, his face soured, and he let out a not-so-happy sigh.

"Hey Nicole, we gotta get moving right now," he said to me, urgency lacing his words.

I reluctantly rolled out of bed, shooting Mia a puzzled look. She just shrugged and walked in my direction, leaving me wondering what was going on.

Marcus seemed totally zoned out, lost in his own world of thoughts.

Mia, on the other hand, draped a loose, long jacket over me and gently guided me out of the bedroom.

To my surprise, Marcus didn't protest or question Mia's actions. Instead, he glanced at me and nodded, as if silently approving of what was happening.

“Hey, I'll get in touch with you whenever I can.
