CHAPTER 2_ Mix Up

The situation was a little bit hard to control with both ladies trying to pry off their husband's hold to claw at each other again. 

“Maya!” Cameron firmly called her holding her shoulder in place. He took a glance behind her as he stared at the other couple arguing between themselves. “You're better than this honey. The doctor asked you not to stress yourself before the procedure otherwise it might cause some mishaps” 

Cameron's words managed to calm Maya's nerves down. She inhaled deeply and gave a nod to him. She could agree to anything if it concerns her having a child. She took a brief glance behind her where her eyes met the magnetic ones of the tall man standing behind her.

“Fine” 

Meanwhile….

“You'd actually have me go through this than to have sex with me like a normal man would?..Do you see the amount of embarrassment I'm facing over here?!” Jessica's voice was low but firm. She raised her head making eye contact with her fiance but he quickly pulled his eyes away from hers with a loud snort.

“You aren't worth it” his response was brief and rigid. He didn't bat an eyelid at her dumbfounded state. Instead he concentrated his attention on the lady with her back facing him.

Luckily for her at that moment, a nurse approached them.

“Mrs Sinclair, Mrs Sawyer and Mrs Miller you three are ready for the procedure” 

Jessica gave one last look at him before she turned around and walked away with the nurse.

Cameron placed a hand on Maya's shoulder with a reassuring smile on his lips. 

“You can do this” He whispered to her.

After two long hours of waiting in the waiting area where some men were seated waiting for their respective wives who went in for the same procedure as Maya, Cameron spotted Maya heading his way.

He stood up from his seat and approached her in hurried footsteps. 

“Maya-

She threw herself into his wide opened arms, he placed a kiss on her forehead and pulled away afterwards.

“Are you hurt or anything?” He asked, worried lines creasing up in his forehead until she shook her head. 

“Even if I was feeling hurt, I'll happily endure it as long as our little one is growing inside me” She took her hands in his as they both started walking away.

“Mr and Mrs Sawyer please hold on” 

The voice made them halt their movement. Maya was the first to turn around where her eyes fell on the nurse holding a notepad. There was something about the nurse's expression that caused a weird uneasiness in Maya's mind.

“What for?” Maya inquired with both hands on her hips.

The nurse cleared her throat awkwardly trying hard not to stare at Maya directly. 

“The doctor would like to have a word with you and your husband”

Maya and Cameron tapped their feet impatiently as they gazed at the male doctor who was all sweaty from nervousness. The door opened and the same nurse from earlier came in ushering two figures into the doctor's office.

“This way Mr Sinclair” 

The two couples glanced at each other with a snort leaving the ladies lips followed by a roll of their eyes. Their earlier banter was still fresh in their minds.

The doctor shakingly reached for his face towel on his desk and dabbed it over his face. The news he was about to break to them would either cost him his life or his job or worse, his doctor's license. He shivered from the mere sight of the imposing tall figure at the back.

His icy blue eyes boring into the doctor's soul.

“Is something wrong doctor?” 

The doctor faced Maya and suddenly laughed out dryly. 

“Oh dear. Nothing is wrong at all” he added to clear the uneasiness his awkward laughter caused.

Maya heaved a sigh of relief. For a moment she thought that the procedure had gone wrong at some point but since that wasn't the case, there was nothing to worry about.

“There's just been a tiny mistake during the procedure you see..” The doctor spoke which gained the attention of the four in an instant.

His shivering didn't stop, he looked nervous as hell to break the news to them. One thing he knew for sure was that the man at the back won't spare him. 

Kelvin Sinclair wasn't a nobody. He was infact one of the people who controlled L.A. 

“What mistake?” 

The statue like man finally spoke. His voice deep and dry which didn't help the doctor in any way. 

“The sperm samples were mixed up by accident” The doctor finally broke the news leaving them in an eery and deafening silence.

It took them a minute to break out of the shock.

“What?!” Maya sprang up to her feet with her hands on her belly.

The doctor was quick to stand up from his seat behind the desk. He shook his head slowly.

“There's still a chance that the procedure might fail. We just need two weeks to confirm if you both are pregnant or not” 

“What manner of incompetence is this?! Do you realize what you've done here?!” Cameron barked almost strangling the poor sweaty doctor to death.

However, the two ladies were still in shock at what they just heard. Their hands fell on their belly caressing it gently. There was a high possibility that there might be a tiny being growing inside of them but the child might not belong to their respective partners.

Maya was the most dumbfounded. She sent a sharp glare to Kelvin Sinclair standing at a corner oozing out a deadly aura. He was indeed a man of few words only his expressions showed his true feelings right now.

“I'll rather have no kids at all than to bear yours!” She lashed out irritably and stormed out of the office not without bumping her shoulder against his arm.

Cameron gave one final look at the doctor “you'll hear from me soon!” 

He quickly left the office to go after his wife.

“Did you hear that Kelvin?! There's a high chance that I'm pregnant with another man's baby! Are you happy now?! You know…if you had just slept with me in the first place none of this would have happened-

“Enough!” His one worded response sent a shiver down her spine. He took some steps forward to the doctor who was now almost hiding behind his blue curtains.

“If you knew that you weren't ready to be a responsible gynecologist then why on earth did you choose to open a clinic?!”  

“Mr Sinclair…we'll be able to tell if they're really pregnant two weeks from now”

Cameron fastened his seatbelt and started the car which slowly left the hospital. Next to him was Maya who was completely lost in her own thoughts. Her eyes were so puffy from crying so much. It wasn't in his nature to say ‘i told you so' to anyone when something goes wrong. But, Maya's stubbornness to have a kid has soiled things pretty bad.

“If you had just listened to me-

“I'm not ready to listen to you mock me about this Cameron!” She responded, cutting his off before he even began talking. 

“I'm not trying to mock you Maya. If you had just exercised a little patience with me-

“Patience?! That's all you keep telling me! Do you know how bored I get staying alone while you go to your fancy business trips at Paris, Hawaii and Dubai?.. Sometimes I feel like you don't even want kids!”

Her last words sank deep into his head. The car suddenly stopped causing her to launch forward since she wasn't putting on her seatbelt. She regained her posture and snapped her head to him.

“I'm doing all these for us! But you're so eager to push things forward and now look at where it has gotten you to. You're pregnant with another man's child. That's sick Maya!” 

Maya was left in shock. Her jaw dropped in surprise at his outburst. There was a sudden rush of adrenaline and in a second, her hand met his face harshly causing an echo in the car..

Cameron wasn't the least surprised at her attack, he ran his tongue over his teeth trying to suck in his anger before he does something that he might regret later.

“I'm only stating the facts here. Maya. Just be hopeful that you turn out to be pregnant because I'm not sure that I might raise someone else's kid-

Maya snorted and opened the car's door, she stepped out and slammed the door closer harder than necessary.

“Just get out of here!” She yelled at him amidst tears.

She turned around and began heading towards the opposite direction. All she wanted was some moment to clear her mind. Maybe Cameron was right after all, if she had just waited for a while longer things might be different.

But again, she had been trying for months now. How much longer does she have to wait before she finally conceived?

And for the first time in the last two years, she hoped not to be pregnant. In just two weeks, she'd be able to find out if she was truly pregnant or not. Till then, she'll continue having hope for the better.

Two weeks later…

Rooted on the ground in front of a mirror in the bathroom was Maya, holding a pregnancy test strip which had two red clear lines. She appeared too shaken to react to anything.

Her eyelids finally fluttered as a streak of tears fell off her eyes and staining her cheeks.

The pounds on the bathroom's door didn't faze her or stop her from crying. Cameron knocked again but she didn't respond to him.

He took a step back and rushed forward again to the door and bumped his shoulder against the door with a strong amount of force.

The door opened forcefully at the impact. He rushed in a little scared that she might have hurt herself in there. But to his surprise, he saw her sitting limply on the partially wet tiled floor. And a few metres away from her was a pregnancy test strip.

His eyes closed briefly as soon as his gaze fell on the positive strip on the bathroom floor.

“Maya look.. there's still time for you to get rid of it” 

Maya finally moved. Her eyes dropped to her flat belly. The happiness she had always thought she'd feel when she becomes pregnant was nowhere to be found except grief.

Her poor heart ached so much. She finally got what she wanted but not with the same man she had loved for four years. This was a stranger's baby growing inside of her.

“Don't worry Maya. I'll arrange an appointment with a doctor for you right away”
