Rosalie's reluctance to be intimate with me was just my luck. The two times we shared a bed were the best nights of my life, yet I found it rather unfortunate that I wouldn't experience such nights again. In our first marriage, she willingly gave me her body to do with as I pleased, and though I enjoyed those moments, I was always in a haste to leave.

Despite my newfound willingness to stay with her all day and night if possible, she closed that door on me. I could have protested when she set her condition, but I believed that having her in my life and not being intimate with her was better than not having her with me at all.

Just as I was about to pick up the receiver to summon a maid for a drink, I recalled that I hadn't hired a housekeeper yet. Disconnecting my phone from the charger, I powered it up, briefly waited for it to start, then scrolled through my call history to find Norman's number. I dialed it and brought the phone to my ear.
