Isabella sat quietly on her desk that was next to Dominic’s. She wasn’t given any particular task yet, so she have nothing better to do than stare at the wall in front of her.
Dominic looked at her through his peripheral vision and noticed her rather bored look, and a mischievous idea suddenly ran to his mind. Heh, it’s not bad to take a little revenge for breaking his frame, right? “Do you mind, bringing this to the third floor, these are important documents that needs to be signed.” He gave her a stack of paper that was lying around. “All of these?” “Yes, is there a problem?” He asked with a dead expression, but deep down he was smiling whenever she feels rattled when he looks at her. “No-no, there’s nothing wrong sir. I’ll get it done right away,” she rambled, and swiftly carried the papers that piled up to reach her head, she walked to the door, but had trouble opening it since her hands were full. Dominic looking at her sorry state decided to lend her a little hand, “Here,” he opened the door for her, and watched as she wobbly walked to the elevator. He doesn’t know why, but every action she does always bring a smile to his face. He just hopes she doesn’t have ulterior motives like his past assistants, or else he won’t think twice of throwing her away. He had enough of his father’s tricks, that’s why he can’t lower his guards down under any circumstances. … “Who is that for?” A woman with bold red lipstick approached Isabella as she placed the stack of papers down on the table. With a loud thud, feeling her arms almost breaking from the weight of the papers. “Hello, Mr. Russo told me to bring this here,” she replied, and the woman gave her an odd look, gazed her up and down before raising her brows at Isabella, a hint of jealously in her eyes. She took a quick look at the papers and said while scoffing, “You’re on the wrong floor,” It was all the woman said before walking away, not even caring to explain anything to Isabella. “What? But I was told…” Isabella wanted to ask her where to deliver the documents but the woman pretended not to hear her at all. “Don’t mind her, she’s just jealous of you,” a woman with black hair, wearing round glasses walked to Isabella with a soft smile. “Why would she be jealous of me?” “You’re the new assistant of the CEO right?” Isabella nodded her head. “Well, a lot of the woman here are eyeing that position, but don’t let the rumors get to you. Our boss is a good person, as long as you don’t do anything disruptive, you’ll be fine,” she said, and at the same time took a look at the papers. “These papers should be on the 13th floor, HR Department,” the woman instructed. “Really? But I swear he said to deliver these here,” Isabella tilted her head to the side, wondering if she misheard Dominic. The woman lightly laughed at her, “I’m sure it was just a mistake,” Isabella let out a heavy breath, and stretched her arms before carrying the papers again. “By the way, what’s your name?” “Elouise,” “My name’s Isabella, but you can call me Bella,” Isabella said. “I’m sorry I have to go, he might get angry at me for being gone for too long. Bye, see you around.” She bid goodbye before walking out of the door. … “What took you so long?” Dominic asked slyly when he saw her walking inside while massaging here arms. Isabella looked at his direction, her brows creasing wondering if he told her the wrong floor by accident or in purpose. “I just got into a little bit of trouble…sir,” she said stressing the last part, before taking her seat. “I see,” Dominic wanted to laugh at her but held it in, not wanting to destroy his perfectly good image. Isabella watched his face that showed no other emotion, and what Eloise said suddenly ringed in her head. 'Is he really that type of guy?'"What, really?! Are you thinking of quitting now cause I think you should." Isabella talked with Kara outside a cafe just a few blocks from her workplace. She told her everything, and as a friend, of course Kara became concerned for her. Since she's also the one who introduced her to the job. Dominic didn't show up in the morning since he had a meeting outside, and she was relieved at some point since she feels every time he's around, the air is always tense, as if someone is always watching her every move. Maybe she's overthinking things, but she can't help if that's how she really feels. Not to mention that she's working for the man she had sex with. Maybe the rumors are true about him. But then again, she can't judge a person based on rumors. "Sigh, I don't know. But I can't, I finally have a good paying job, I can't afford to lose this," Isabella sipped her coffee, tilting her head to the window to see the cars passing by. She looked at the clock, and seeing that i
Dominic's steps echoed through the hall as he hastily walked to his office. He could hear laughter inside since the door was slightly open. When he reached the door, he immediately opened it without second thoughts stealing their attention. And what he saw made his blood boil. Cole was wiping the side of Isabella's face, and when Cole saw Dominic staring at his hand that was touching her cheek, he smirked, and that smirk didn't go unnoticed by Dominic. He strutted towards them with powerful steps, and seeing him act like that, his expression all black, Isabella's heart skipped a beat, feeling something bad was about to happen. Dominic, without saying anything, grabbed Isabella's wrist and pulled her behind him. He didn't know what was happening, but only one thing was running in his head, and that was to take Isabella away from him. He glared at his cousin, but Cole was unaffected by his attitude. He knew his cousin too well, and even if he was the boss here, he can't
After Cole left, the whole room was covered in a chill atmosphere. Neither Isabella nor Dominic tried to talk to each other. Isabella wanted to ask him about what Cole meant, she was curious who the girl Cole was referring to but felt like she’d be stepping over the line if she asks. Time flew fast and it was almost 8PM. Isabella stole glances at Dominic, she wanted to ask if it was okay for her to go ahead but it seems inappropriate that she leaves before her boss does. “You can go ahead,” Isabella darted her eyes towards Dominic’s direction, stunned. ‘Did he just read my mind?’ She thought. “I can tell you’re uncomfortable, I’m sorry for what happened earlier, you shouldn't have see that. Cole and I don’t really have the best relationship,” Dominic said, still gazing at her with unreadable emotions. “It’s okay,” it was all Isabella could say, not daring to look at him. “Then...ummm, I'll leave first, sir, goodnight!” Isabella hesitantly stood up. She looked at him b
Days have passed after that unsettling interaction. Isabella could feel Dominic was distancing himself from her. All they ever talk about whenever they are in the office was the schedule of his meetings and if he needs her to run some errands. Aside from that, they mostly never talk to each other. That night, when Isabella asked who Cassy was, Dominic seemed to realize what he just did, immediately letting go of her and leaving. She was left bewildered, and in the end she had no choice but to take a cab home. She could tell something was up, from his talk with Cole that afternoon, and the fact that he called her Cassy just proves it. Right now she was alone again inside his office, plotting schedules for him. It was the same routine every single day. While she was organizing some documents, the door suddenly opened and she stood up out of reflex thinking it was Dominic, but it ended up being the person she least expected to see. She can already feel a burning headache
Fiona watched as Cole entered the office. He was smiling at her with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "What are you so happy about?" She barked at him, sitting down, massaging her temples. "You shouldn't let out your frustrations on her. You're better than that Fiona," Cole looked at her, his eyes softening as he ogled her face. "What is it to you?" "Come on, I'm trying to help you here. Do you really want to be some kind of villain?" Cole chuckled, sitting beside her, looking at her while batting his eye lashes. Fiona just gave him a blank face, her irritation rising at an intense peak. She raised her hand and stopped it mid air, her fingers wide open while she looked at Cole imagining crushing his face with her bare hands. "Ugh you're so annoying!" She clenched her teeth, stomping her feet on the ground. She got up and grabbed her purse angrily, walking to the door as she banged the door close. "Haha, she still haven't changed after all these years. I wonder w
Isabella's POV ___________ What Thea told back there made me reflect on Fiona's treatment towards me. Sure, she was acting as if I've wronged her, but now that I think of it. I feel like she's seeing another person whenever she talks to me. I massaged my temples, my head hurting from thinking too much and opened the door. I thought no one would be at the office, but unexpectedly he was already here. "Where have you been?" He turned to me, his eyes scanning me. "I'm sorry Sir, I just got back from the cafeteria. Is there anything you need me to do?" I asked, waiting for his response. A minute passed, and here I am still standing by the door since he still wasn't talking. His eyes remained latched on me and I was starting to feel uncomfortable, but thank God he averted his eyes and finally talked. "Nothing. I was just wondering where you were," "Oh...okay," it was all I could say as I smiled at him, nodding my head before walking to my table. "I heard Fiona was here ear
"What?! I have a bad feeling about this Bella, maybe you should resign, there's still other jobs out there you can do," I told Kara everything that happened, and as expected, she wants me to resign from my job. I can't blame her though, there's something about Dominic that I can't just understand. "I don't know about that. You saw me applying for a lot of job, and this is the only company who hired me." [Ding!] I looked at my phone to see who texted me and saw his name appear on the screen. "Who's that?" she asked, and I showed her my phone and it made her frown even more. "He said we have a business meeting to attend to outside of the city," "And he's bringing you with him?" "Well, yeah, that is part of my job description," I said, and I honestly cannot make up Kara's face anymore. Even a talented artist would have a hard time drawing the look on her face. "Absolutely not! He's creepy, Bella. I heard rumors about him being a total psycho, and also that yesterday h
"Did you not bring anything with you?" Dominic looked at me from head to toe. We were in the parking lot and I just got back from my apartment to fetch some clothes for the night. He said that the business meeting will be conducted at a resort since that's where the client wants to meet with us. "I got it all in here," I turned on my back to show him the backpack that I brought with me. "Is that all?" He asked again, as if he wasn't content with my answer. "Ummm...yeah," I replied and he just shrugged his shoulders and opened the passenger door. "Get in," he said, and I smiled shyly as I glanced at him and hopped in his car. He got in on the driver seat and didn't waste another second and immediately drove off. "You should have brought swim wear with you since we're going to the beach," he said, and I looked at him, with a frown on my face. "Aren't we going there for a meeting?" "Naturally, but we won't spend the whole day there for the meeting, you can rel
The early morning light slipped through the cracks of the curtains, painting faint gold lines across the bed. I stirred awake, groggily opening my eyes, my body still heavy with sleep. Slowly, I turned to my side and found Hayden beside me, sleeping peacefully, a soft snore escaping his lips.A small, sad smile tugged at my mouth. I brushed a few strands of hair from his forehead and leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss against his temple. He didn’t move, he just let out a deeper sigh before settling again.I slipped out of bed quietly, grabbing my purse and phone before heading out.One of the things Kara had found, one of the things that really got me worried, was that Hayden had regularly visited a mental health clinic years ago. Right after Cassie’s death. The timing wasn’t a coincidence. It couldn’t be. Whether it was guilt, grief, or something worse, I needed to know what demons he was fighting. That’s why I’m going to that clinic to find the details I need. My car rumbled softly
Hayden and I walked in silence toward the parking lot. My hand was still in his, but it felt like there was a glass wall between us.Just as we reached the car, I stopped abruptly, pulling my hand away from his. Hayden immediately turned to me, confusion flashing across his face."Bella? What's wrong?" he asked, his voice low and careful.I didn’t answer right away. I kept my eyes on him, gathering every stray thought running wild in my head. Finally, I found my voice."I’ve been trying to understand everything," I muttered. "You said before that you couldn’t tell me what was bothering you, and I respected that. I really did." I took a step closer to him, needing him to see how much I meant it. "But now... maybe you can at least give me assurance. That what happened inside there—with that Cedric—isn’t something I should be worried about."Hayden’s eyes dropped to the ground. He sighed, running a hand through his hair, looking every bit as tired as I felt."Nothing will happen," he sa
My body tensed slightly, the air growing a little too heavy, and I didn’t know why. Something just didn’t feel right.Cedric turned to me with a glint in his eyes that I couldn’t quite read. I thought this guy was simple, but I guess in this room full of people, the word “simple” wouldn’t sound right after all. “So, Isabella,” he began, his tone light but I could sense he was just pretending. “Are you Hayden’s girlfriend?”The question caught me off guard. My lips parted, but the words didn’t immediately come out.Cedric continued before I could even respond, “You know, my sister and Hayden have a long history.”I blinked at him. “Fiona and Hayden are close?” I asked, trying to steady my voice, even though my chest felt like it was tightening.Cedric chuckled softly, tilted his head, then glanced at Dominic. “Not Dominic, Cassie,” he clarified, enunciating the name clearly. My heart stopped. He turned back to me, still smiling. “I mean, the three of you did have a long history toget
The morning passed by quickly. I really wish I could go home and take a long nap. But unfortunately, I can’t. Whoever said adult life gives you more freedom. They’re liars. I had barely taken a proper sip of my coffee when my assistant, Mia, knocked lightly on the door of my office. She peeked inside, holding her tablet close to her chest.“Ms, just a quick reminder—you’ve been invited to the Heritage Gala this evening. It's happening at the Grand Atrium Hotel. The car is supposed to be ready by five."I blinked. Right. The Heritage Gala. I had completely forgotten about it."Thank you, Mia. I’ll wrap things up early then."She gave a polite nod before disappearing down the hall.Despite the early chaos, the rest of the day seemed to breeze by. I felt oddly light. I smiled to myself as I grabbed my coat and bag, ready to leave. But as soon as I stepped out of the building and into the parking lot, the sight that greeted me made my stomach sink.My car tires—both on the driver's side
It was quiet, almost too quiet, when I finally found the courage to ask.I looked at Hayden, his face slightly turned away, as if avoiding what he knew was coming. My heart felt like it had been wrung out, twisted and bruised from the weight of everything I had learned, everything I had seen, and most of all, everything he had failed to say."Why did you lie to me?" I asked, voice barely above a whisper.Hayden didn’t answer. Not immediately. His jaw tensed. His hands fidgeted at his sides. But his eyes, his eyes couldn’t meet mine. The silence between us wasn’t just silence. It was loud and deafening. It pierced through the walls I had tried to build for myself."Can you really not tell me?" I asked again, softer this time.He turned his head slowly, eyes finally meeting mine. There was pain in them. Pain and conflict. He hesitated, then shook his head.My heart sank, but I nodded. I tried to understand. He must have his reason for not telling me.I stepped forward and cupped his fac
I got home late that night. Way too late. The driveway was empty and quiet, and the porch light was the only thing still on. I stood outside for a moment, staring at the house. It looked the same as always, but I wasn’t. Not after what I saw, not after what I heard.I don’t want to be affected by what’s happening, but I am…and I don’t know how to stop this feeling coursing through my heart. Sigh.I opened the door quietly and stepped inside. The living room was dark, the silence stretching far too deep. I didn’t even bother turning on the lights. My legs moved on their own, carrying me upstairs. I just wanted to see Blake to calm myself down. I pushed open his door slowly trying not make any noise as possible. He was curled up beneath his blankets, his tiny fists tucked under his cheek as his chest rose and fell slowly. I let out a quiet sigh, one that seemed to drag all the weight from my shoulders. I watched him for a few more seconds, just making sure. Then I gently closed the
We roamed the halls like shadows. For a building so guarded on the outside, the inside felt... ordinary. Almost too ordinary. White walls. Polished floors. A faint scent of paper and air freshener. It looked like any high-end office complex you’d find downtown—quiet, professional, boring even. No alarms. No red sirens. No looming sense of dread.Except, maybe, the one hammering in my chest. We moved carefully, glancing around every corner before slipping into rooms. Most of them were unlocked. I half-expected to find people inside, or something, anything, that screamed you shouldn’t be here. But all I saw were shelves stacked with binders, boxes labeled with codes, and desks that were probably neatly cleaned.“This is anticlimactic,” Dominic muttered as he flipped through a folder marked F04-Secondary Entry Logs.“Keep your voice down,” I hissed, scanning another stack of documents that meant nothing to me. Numbers. Charts. Reports that could’ve belonged to any logistics firm in the c
Dominic. He was standing outside my car, eyebrows raised, arms crossed with that maddening smirk.I had no choice but to slowly roll down the window."Fancy seeing you here," he said, peering inside like some nosy neighbor. "What are you doing in a place like this, Bella?""That’s none of your business," I snapped, sitting up straighter, trying not to look guilty. He laughed—really laughed, like it was actually funny. I stared. It was strange. His face looked lighter. Less grumpy, less tired. He didn’t have that usual broody air around him. Instead, there was something... approachable? Tsk, I must be going crazy, this man, approachable? "Oh come on, don't give me that look," he said with a grin. "You look like a squirrel caught stealing almonds."I groaned and got out of the car, shutting the door a little harder than necessary. "Why are you here? Are you following me?""Please," he scoffed. "Not everything is about you, Bella. I just happened to be in the neighborhood. Saw your car
I woke up with a plan. This wasn’t something I was proud of. It felt like a betrayal in itself—snooping around, following someone you care about. But what choice did I have? The way Hayden had been acting lately left me no room for comfort. Something had shifted in him, and while I tried to ignore it, the unease inside me only grew stronger with every passing day.So, I took a day off. Told him I needed rest. He didn’t question it.Blake came down the stairs, rubbing his eyes, his uniform a little crumpled. I smiled and helped fix his collar before kissing his forehead. "Be good at school, alright?""Yes, Mama," he replied sleepily, climbing into the backseat of the car.I stood at the doorway and waved until the driver pulled away.Hayden stood in the living room, sipping coffee, dressed casually but neatly. "I’ll be heading out too," I told him, grabbing my purse and keys. "Need to check on a few errands."He gave a nod. "Alright. Be careful, okay?""I will. You too," I added, step
