CHAPTER 1
CASSANDRAI push open the door to the bar, walking in gently so as not to attract unwanted attention to myself. I usually come to ‘24/7’, a bar my best-friend, Julian works at, so as to help with whatever I can; One, because I get free shots of alcohol to drown my sorrows and Two, because I get a couple dollars from doing it, and those couple dollars put the food on my table. As a very-not to brag-pretty, curvy, and slim lady, I get a lot of attention whenever I step into the bar… actually, I get a lot of attention whenever I step anywhere, which isn’t exactly a good thing contrary to what everyone might think, and I’ve been approached a couple times by different breeds of men, and shockingly, womenThankfully, the bar was slightly deserted today so no one will really bother me, I can’t deal with any drunk person today, I’m too exhausted for that. My black stiletto heels clack on the marble floor as I make my way to the counter at the center of the bar.I finally reach the counter where Frank, the owner of the bar-though he works as a bartender-and he’s also my friend, is cleaning the counter. He flashes a perfect smile at me as I drop my faded brown bag on the counter, letting out an exasperated sigh. He looks at me with concerned emerald eyes that makes me want to melt into a puddle. He’s so freaking hot. Frank is probably every girl’s dream guy, his most outstanding facial feature being his innocent emerald eyes, which are very deceiving because he’s not innocent at all; he’s very perverted. I would have made a move on him if not for the fact that he’s slightly shorter than me, and I can’t date someone shorter than I am.“Hey Cassy, you’re early today, good news or bad news?” Frank asked as I sit at a stool in front of the counter, ignoring the flirtatious winks I was getting from a couple grown men at a VIP table. One signals for me to come to him, but I just ignore him, taking off my heels that are killing me.“Yeah! Good news; so good I’m smiling and singing praises to the Lord.” I say sarcastically. He chuckles and I give him a halfhearted smile.“I’ll be right back.” He says, walking towards two girls who just sat at the counter. I release my auburn red hair from the band that was holding it up, allowing the curly waves to fall down my back. “Much better.”“So, what do you want this evening?” Franks asks me coming back from serving the girls their order, while cleaning a wine glass before putting it into the shelve with the other glasses he has cleaned, and-not surprisingly-he had a small piece of paper in his hands. Did I mention girls are always drooling over him and keep slipping him their numbers?“Hmmm… I think… I’ll have the usual, but make it slightly stronger.” I answer and he nods, heading to the store. I look around the bar in search of Julian, realizing Julian isn’t around. I guess I came too early.“Oh! Julian?” Frank asks me as if he read my mind, and I nod my head in affirmation to his assumption, “She’ll be here soon, you came pretty early you know?” he says, before dropping a bottle of red wine and wine opener in front of me, after which he passes me a glass cup.“Thanks.” I pop the wine bottle open with the wine opener, and pour myself a glass of red wine. I cross my left leg over my right as I take a sip of the wine.“Rough day at work?” He asks me, and I give him a sad smile.“The usual…” I pause, taking a sip of my wine, “The asshole sure knows how to make my blood boil. I’d really love to give him a piece of my mouth and fist, but who wants to get fired right before the end of the month… before payday? Definitely not me, especially since I really need the money.” I say honestly, taking another sip of my wine.“You can always take my offer, and work here permanently?” Frank winks making me roll my eyes.“It’s a very tempting offer but I’m not that desperate for money to the extent that I’ll work as a stripper. Thank you, but No.”“Okay, whatever you say, but if you change your mind, I’ll be waiting.” He says, leaving to attend to some customers.“I smell a very juicy story.” A very familiar angelic voice says from behind me; Julian. She sits beside me, “Hey boo!” She snatches my glass of wine from my hands and drains the entire glass, before flashing be a sweet smile. This girl is so annoying.“Don’t you have something stronger?” She asks.“Cuz I work here?” I reply sarcastically, pouring myself another glass of wine. She raises her eyebrows, “Yeah! You do.“Not exactly.”“Whatever. What’s with the long face? I mean, you’re normally happy and always hyper whenever you come here, so what happened?”I sigh, “I got another notice this week for the house, and you know how much that house means to me.”Julian touches my shoulder, giving me a sad smile. “I understand, and I’ll always be there for you, how about your pay for this month?”“It’s not enough.”She clicks her tongue, deep in thought, before looking at me, “Being a stripper isn’t that bad-”“Julian.” I cut in but she just ignores me.“-I get paid a lot of money, and I get tipped, and all I do is dance.”“Yeah! You dance in your underwear while different types of disgusting men touch you; I’ll pass.” I hiss out.“Wow! Thanks for breaking my heart.” She says, placing her hand over her chest.“I’m sorry, I’m just not interested… Let’s talk about something else, something joyful, unlike my life.”“Okay, not like I wanna drown myself in sorrow.” She shrugs and I smile. She turns to Frank, “Yo Big boy! Give us your strongest wine mixed with tequila shots.”“Why do I have a bad feeling about this?” He asks, looking at the both of us doubtfully.Julian groans, “Hurry it up, will ya? We’re going to make Cassandra here forget her problems.” She turns to me, a wide smirk on her lips.“And you’re agreeing to this?” He laughs, but I just shrug.“Better.” Julian murmurs. Frank disappears into the store, while Julian and I stare at the people trooping in and out of the bar. Few minutes later, he comes backs with our shots, and places it in front of us. The music becomes louder and deafening, as the bar gets filled up further. The smell of sweat fills the air, and people are now dancing and grinding on the dance floor, as strippers began climbing on tables, doing their thing, while big men spray or tuck money into their panties and bras. The disco light come on, it’s colors shining brightly. It is so bright; I’d be blind now if I’m not already used to it.“Wanna dance?” Julian yells in my ear, due to the music.“Not really feeling like it.” I yell back. She pouts, “Come one, you know I have to go back and change soon, since I’ll soon start my shift. Just dance with me before then.”“Fine.” I say, giving in. I down one more shot at once and follow Julian.CHAPTER 2CASSANDRAJulian holds my hand, leading me to the dance floor, and I obediently follow her because I might be kind of tipsy. We stop at the center of the dance floor and she lets go of my hand, starting to dance in a sexy manner; of course, she is a stripper after all, not that I’m judging her or anything. I stand still watching as she twists and whines her waist to the beat of the music.“Let loose.” She yells, tossing her jacket to the floor, leaving her in her black bra and black leather pants. I chuckle at the sight before weaving my fingers into my hair. She wants me to let loose, I’ll show her what loose is. I move with her, mimicking her dance, both of us yelling in the process as we sing while dancing. I don’t know how or when, but I soon find myself furiously dancing in my blue jeans, and my tank top, wondering where my jacket went to.I feel someone press themselves on me, and a pair of hands on my waist, and a masculine voice asks, “May I have this dance?” His hot
CHAPTER 3CASSANDRA“Are you Cassandra Johnson?” The petite woman asks me while blocking my path, annoying me seriously.“Who the hell are you?” I ask angrily, folding my arms across my chest.“I suggest you show some respect.” The man in suit says, scaring me a little, so I kept shut with a scowl on my face. I look behind me, realizing the guy I was with earlier was gone. I don’t blame him for bailing on me, he doesn’t know me and these people might be after my life… for whatever insane reason that could be.“To answer your question, Cassandra, I’m your savior.” She says with a friendly smile, but I still don’t trust her at all.“If you’re looking for someone to play games with, I’m not the right person, so maybe you should look further. I have way too much problems to add more to it, so please, leave me be.” I say, attempting to leave, but the stupid man blocks my path again.“Would you stop blocking my path?!” I yell in frustration, throwing my hands in the air.“I know who you are
CHAPTER 4CASSANDRAI get home quarter to midnight because I trekked home thanks to the fact that there were no cabs, I couldn’t afford to order an Uba, and also because I stayed out late; courtesy of Ma’am Victoria and her very annoying bodyguard. As soon as I climb the porch up to the doorstep, I sight a pile of letters. I look around for a while wondering who could have sent me the letters. With trepidation, I pick them all up and then look for my keys in my bag. I unlock the door, enter the house before locking it after me. I take off my heels at the door, letting out a relieved groan, as I walk into the sitting room barefooted, not bothering to wear my flip-flops. I dump the stack of letters on the table before throwing my bag on the living room couch. “I’m so thirsty, I need water.” I yawn, walking to the kitchen to get myself a glass of water. I pour myself a glass of water before walking back into the living room. I gulp down the water in one try before picking up my phone to
CHAPTER 5CASSANDRA“I don't get it sir.” I say, backing away from my boss’s touch. He had called me into his office this morning to drop some folders and has been trying to touch me. I definitely do not want to deal with this dick's flirtatious glares and corny disgusting remarks this morning. He’s tall, and… I guess, hot, but he has a very nasty character, and that’s just a total turnoff for me in a guy. I just want to work and then go home to think of a solution to my life, why must he bother me?“Cassandra, you know what I want.” Max, my boss says moving closer to me, making me roll my eyes, and back away.“I do not know what you want sir, I dropped the folder on your desk already and I would like to take my leave as I have other things to attend to.” I say but he holds my hand firmly. I swear to God if he tries stupid shit, I will kick him in the crotch and spit right in his face. Stay calm Cassy, you have dealt with his stupid personality for three years now so you can do it.“L
CHAPTER 6CASSANDRAI sigh, dropping my head to my desk in frustration. The office closed thirty minutes ago and everyone has gone to their various homes, except me. I’ve been writing a resignation letter, and I’ve written up to five now, and I just feel it doesn’t cover everything I want to say to that crazy person I call my boss. I want it to cover all the hatred I feel towards him, and how much he disgusts me, and how long I’ve wanted to leave his company."Why are you still here, not going home yet?" I let out a sigh, knowing fully well who it is. I look back to see my boss, the devil I was just thinking about, staring at me hungrily, making me cringe.I start to pack up my things from my desk, deciding to drop the resignation letter at his desk tomorrow. "I am leaving now, I just need to wrap up a few things and I will be done." I say, trying my best to ignore his lustful gaze."Do you want me to drive you home?" He asks, his footsteps getting closer."No, there will be no need f
CHAPTER 7NICHOLASNicholas sits on the sofa inside the room that is brightened by a red bulb making the room red. After a few minutes, the girl who he had seen earlier dancing with the pole walks into the room, with a huge smile on her smile, in a transparent black jacket through which he can still see her red underwear inside. She closes the door, and walks towards him."Wendy is it?" He asks and she nods her head, still smiling. "Come over here." He beckons for her and she walks over to where he was sitting before joining him on the sofa, sitting on his laps."Do you know who I am?" He asks, a smirk on his face. "Yes." She whispers, starting to give him a lap dance."Oh! really?" He asks and she smirks too."The famous…” She licks his earlobe, “…handsome…” she places his hands on her laps, “…and gentle, Nicholas Bennett.” She slurs out, making him chuckle."And is that what you think of me?" He asks rubbing her laps."I think all those things about you are true, and I personally f
CHAPTER 8CASSANDRAI don't know what is more funny, the fact that I'm supposed to be disguised as a broke homeless pig or the fact that I am actually broke, since the money Victoria sent to me isn’t mine until I finish the job, although I’ve spent a couple millions out of it to pay the Mortgage officers. How hard is it to kill a person, it can't be that hard, right? Killing Nicholas should be easy, right; since I don't know him and I just have to stab him or shoot him? Oh God! why do I have a bad feeling about this?Okay Cassy, you can do this; you have to do this because there is no backing out of this now. You collected the money and you’ve already spent out of the money to pay the mortgage officers which is the best thing that had happened to you in years, you already sent money to your brother too, and if you quit, you’ll have to return the money, and you know you can’t get that amount of money even if you work non-stop for the next five years. Anyways, you’re rich now, so you sh
CHAPTER 9NICHOLAS“Cassandra, but you can call me Cassy.” Cassy smiles at Nick, her smile drawing him in further."I don’t think I need to introduce myself, you already know me, but I’m Nicholas, and you can call me Nick. Now that we know each other, can we go to your new home?" He says, and she laughs, as he leads her to where his car is parked. He opens the front-seat for her, and when she enters, rushes to the driver’s seat, and starts to drive towards his mansion. He glances at her for a brief moment, and returns his gaze to the road ahead. He has no idea what it is but something about her makes him want to help her. She was homeless and poor and yet she refused his offer, and held onto her pride and dignity, and that makes him want to help her more. "Tell me about yourself Cassandra." He says as he drives on, his eyes not leaving the road. She is quiet for a while, as if not wanting to talk, “Well I am an only child. My mother died when I was young, and my dad died when I was f
CHAPTER 35CASSANDRAI’ve been awake for two months now, I’m not really sure, since I’ve lost track of time and I don’t know which days are which. Although I’m awake, I still feel dead because I can’t move or do anything, I can only sit still and listen to what is going on around me, and every time Nick comes to my bed, I feel so heartbroken because of how sad he sounds. I can her how heartbroken he is by the fact that I’m in a Coma. I just want to wake up, kiss and make love to him all night long, but I can’t.Julian and Frank have been coming here a lot to see me, they tell me about how the police has intensified their search on Victoria, and I just hope and pray she doesn’t go near my family, because Coma or not, I’m going to kill her. They also tell me about how their business is booming and how they miss me, and how I should wake up quickly because Nick has not been himself since I went into a coma. Just a few days ago, they told me Julian is three weeks pregnant, and I wanted to
CHAPTER 34CASSANDRA“Where in the world are you guys? We’ve been here for the past two minutes and I’m tired of waiting for you guys, so you had better hurry your ass up.” I yell into my phone, at Julian.I hear her let out a sigh, and I can feel her rolling her eyes, “We’ll be there very soon Cassy, it’s just two minutes. Chill out.” She says.“Just hurry up.” I frown, hanging up. Nick just looks at me from where he has just finished setting the picnic mat on the ground and has placed the basket on it, and starts to laugh, making my frown deepen, “What are you laughing at mister?”He walks towards me where I am standing with an umbrella over my head, “Well, I’m laugh at how overbearing you’ve become since you got pregnant.” He says, leading me to the picnic mat.The frown on my face disappears, and is replaced by a sad, worried face, with teary eyes, “You don’t love me any less, do you?” I croak, about to cry. It’s been six months since I was told I’m pregnant, so now I’m eight mont
CHAPTER 33CASSANDRA“Oh, Hey Frank! I was just about talking about you; why don’t you take a seat?” I say sarcastically, this time getting really angry. How could they not even bother telling me about their relationship? I mean, they’re my only two friends that I actually talk, and now that they’re in a relationship, they keep it from me. I’m starting to wonder what friendship truly means to these guys, because they clearly don’t get it.I suddenly feel a wave of fatigue wash over, and I start to feel dizzy. I stagger slightly and since I’m standing, I drop to the couch. I’ve been feeling this way since for the past two days now, and I’ve vomited at least seven times since then. Nick said that he’s taking me to the hospital when he gets back from work, and I really don’t want to go, because personally, I hate hospitals. They both rush to me to make sure I’m fine, but I just give them a death glare making them halt in their steps. Much better. Turning to Frank, I say, “As I was saying
CHAPTER 32CASSANDRAIt’s been a week since Nick proposed to me, but I haven’t had the time to tell Julian, since I’ve been busy at work and she hasn’t been picking her calls, and I couldn’t have gone to see her either since she has been travelling around to different parties and events since it is her Catering company that is in charge of the catering services for them. Yes! Julian is the owner of the biggest catering company in New York. It’s so funny how she went from being a stripper to an inspiration to those who want to also go into catering. After the arrest of Victoria, Nick said he wanted to meet my family and friends, and then I told him Cole was out of the country and my only family was Frank and Julian, and I took him to the club to meet them. After knowing that Julian was a stripper, and the only reason she did it was to get enough more to grow her small time catering business, and he gave her… I don’t really know… I think it was about four million dollars to kick start t
CHAPTER 31CASSANDRA“So… what was up with that lady that pushed me out of the way when she was leaving your office? And why was she looking at me like I had just stolen something from her? And also, why was she crying? Did you do something or say something to make her cry?” I start to ask Nick as he drives out of his company’s parking lot. That lady looked like she wanted to strangle me on the spot, and I wear I just wanted to disappear with the way she was looking at me, it was so scary.“Slow down with the questions, babe. How many questions do you want me to answer at once?” He chuckles, his eyes fixed on the road.“As many as you possibly can, so start talking.” I say.“Well, she’s my secretary Laura who has been in love with me way before I met you, and was always showing it.” He pauses, and I nod my head for him to continue, “She got angry at me because I brought you into the company as my P.A, a position she has apparently been eyeing, talked about how I shouldn’t trust you… A
CHAPTER 30NICHOLASHe pulls up in the company’s lot, parking his car at an empty spot. He looks over at Cassy to see her inhaling and exhaling, and he knows she’s nervous and so he reaches for her hand, and gives it a light squeeze. “You’ll be fine, I promise.” He says reassuringly, and she nods her head, calming her nerves. They both get out of the car, and together, they walk into the company. The staffs in the office greets him politely as he walks past them to the elevator leaving them wondering who Cassy is. “What if I say nonsense? Or I fall to the ground?” She asks him as soon as they her in the elevator, her panic rising. He kisses her on the lips, and she forgets all about her worries. He pulls away, “You won’t say nonsense, and you won’t fall either.”“But what if I do?” She asks, taking deep breaths of air.“If you say nonsense, then I’ll laugh it off, and if you fall, I’ll be there to catch you.” He says, and she relaxes a little.“Thank you love.” She says, regaining her
CHAPTER 29CASSANDRAI have just finished setting the dining table when Nick comes in, dressed smartly for work, with his briefcase in his hand. “Ooh! Someone’s looking good.” I compliment him, as he takes his seat at the dining table, dropping his briefcase on the floor, by his chair.“I always look good.’ He says with a proud look on his face, making me roll my eyes, as I walk into the kitchen to get glass cups for the wine since I forgot about it.“You think you’re such a hot cake, don’t ya?” I say to him, walking back with two glass cups in hands before placing them before him, pouring water into one, and wine into the other.“Of course I am. I mean, look at all this?” He says, gesturing to himself and I just have to laugh, almost spilling wine on the table.“Well, I don’t know what you’re talking about because there’s nothing remarkable about your looks.” I tease him, serving him spaghetti, before adding barbecue on top of it.“Well, I highly doubt that the million girls dying to
CHAPTER 28CASSANDRAIt’s been three months since Victoria disappeared, and the police have still found no leads on her, and sometimes I feel scared she’ll come back for me, to get her revenge since I’m the reason why she was arrested, but I’ve gotten over my fears now due to my boyfriend’s constant reassurance that he’ll make sure she gets arrested and that nothing ever happens to me. Yes! I’m talking about Nicholas, the one I was hired to kill, we’re official now.I can’t help but smile whenever I think about my past and how we both started and I don’t know if I sound crazy but I’m actually glad I met Victoria, else I wouldn’t have met my amazing boyfriend who has, since the mess with Victoria, taken care of me and loved me wholeheartedly, not caring that I had once attempted to take his life. He even moved into my father’s house because of how much I loved it, and despite the fact that his is way bigger than my dad’s own, saying that we didn’t need to live in a house that’s too big
CHAPTER 27CASSANDRA“What the hell happened to you? You are bleeding. Where did you go to? I’ve been so worried.” Nick says as soon as I am inside the house. I collapse on the couch in the living room, knowing I have lost a lot of blood but I don’t want to go to the hospital since I know it’s Victoria who is behind this and I really have to tell Nick about it.“Nick, it’s fine.” I say and smile at him. “It’s not fine Cassy, you are bleeding and you look so faint.” He says.“I’ll go to the hospital, I promise, but first, I really have something to tell you. I need to tell you.” I say, looking into his eyes with regret in my eyes.“What is it? Don’t tell me you are going to say lady night was a mistake and that you don’t love me all over again because for me last night was the best thing.” He says and I pull him down to my level, kissing his lips to shut him up.“Last night wasn’t a mistake, it will never be a mistake and I still love you, I promise.” I say, and a smile forms on his l
