Chapter Forty Two

Josh looks taken aback by my sudden declaration of love. His eyes are full of so much emotion that I get lost in them. Then, he asks again, “Say that again.”

I smile, hesitating for a moment but knowing his expectant gaze won’t let me off the hook. “Josh, I love you.”

He stands up from his seat, and I look up, wondering what he’s about to do. He gently tucks my hair behind my ear and says, “I love you too.”

I’m on cloud nine. Who would have thought my love story would revolve around Josh, after everything we’ve been through? After dinner, we move to the car, and I can tell he’s all smiles. I feel the same way. He opens the car door for me, and I mutter a thank you. Before he turns to his side, he leans down and kisses me softly.

I respond gently, the kiss slow and full of emotion. After a while, he rests his forehead on mine and whispers, “Thank you.”

“Thank you too,” I say with a smile, placing my hand on his chest.
