Chapter Fifty Eight

I can't help but respond sarcastically, "You slapped him? That makes me feel really good. Can you see how I feel when you say you slapped him? I feel good."

"I'm sorry, Josh, please. I'm sorry. I haven't been myself since the day I found out Nolan is in town. I have been unable to eat and do anything right."

Thinking back, I realize I had noticed she hadn't been herself lately. I had thought it was about her being nervous about her new position.

I look at her with a mix of emotions, unable to find the right words to describe how I feel. She is still crying profusely. I wish to reach out to her and stop her tears, but I am too angry. The next thing I say is, "Get out of my house."

"Josh, please," she begs, still crying. I repeat, "Get out." I just want her out of my sight so I don't do something I'll regret.

"Josh, I'm sorry," she continues to plead. "Please believe me when I say Nolan is my past. He is a mistake that I know will haunt me for the rest of my life. Please, Josh."
