An old enemy

Rome Parked his car hurriedly and ran angrily inside the house, he met Dave sitting majestically with crossed legs holding a glass of wine and sipping it calmly.

“Where is the girl? Rome inquired without wasting time, trying to suppress his anger.

“So you want to get married? Because you are afraid I will be a threat to your succession as the chairman? Dave asked dropping the glass of wine on the floor with a loud thud causing it to shatter and spill all the wine on the floor.

“How the hell can you be a threat to me? You've been killing innocent ladies for the past 2 years and I have been covering for you like a fool. “Do you think I will do that for you if you are a threat?”.

Am only marrying her because of my mother do you understand? So stop this nonsense and bring out that girl now. Rome commanded still standing in place.

“Mother! Mother!! Mother!!! Am tired of hearing that word. “She is not my mother”. Dave yelled in anger, he slapped his hands on a bare glass table till blood started to gush out profusely.

Rome merely glanced at him and down to his hands that were dripping from blood. He smiled faintly if It was before he would have rushed towards him and tended to his wounds but not anymore.

“She is your mother whether you like or not” She brought you up to this stage and you are old enough to stop craving for motherly care. This should be the last time you provoke me because I might kill you myself.

Rome said plainly and entered one of the rooms, he met Ophelia lying soundly on the bed in a transparent nightwear.

“What an ashole he cursed” before wrapping her in his jacket and carrying her in his arms.

As he carried her out Dave said something making to stop in his tracks.

I didn't kill them Rome trusts me, I only want to piss you off, am craving attention Mother hates me Father never wants me and you are always busy. I did all that to seek attention and have never killed a soul. Dave said with tears strumming down his cheeks.

I will never believe you not even when I saw with my own two eyes what you did to Celine and now see what you did to Ophelia Rome replied without looking back he walked out with Ophelia in his arms and drove home.

Dave fell slowly to his knees with tears streaming from his eyes profusely he wanted his family back. The family that always cherished and protected him. His affectionate brother, his protective parents, and his lousy but cheerful grandfather.

Where did it all go wrong he questioned himself. Remembering how his brother's first girlfriend Savanna was shot dead in front of him and he was accused of killing him, he punched himself hard while continuously crying.

Rome got home and slowly dropped Ophelia on the bed. He was about to turn back when Ophelia suddenly grabbed his arms.

He looked at her face and saw her crying and sweating in discomfort she was saying something slowly but he couldn't hear.

He leaned closer to her and heard what she was saying clearly.

Mother! Mother!! Stay with me, Ophelia said with tears. Rome slowly removed his hand from hers and went outside the room. He soon returned to the room with a piece of wet handkerchief.

He slowly cleaned her sweat and placed the wet towel on her forehead to relieve her temperature before walking out he glanced at her once again “It turns out everyone is craving for motherly love” he said with a faint smile and gently closed the door behind.

Ophelia stirred awake, her body heavy and her mind clouded with confusion. The faint smell of unfamiliar perfume and the soft creak of a distant door tickled her senses.

She blinked several times, trying to adjust to the dim lighting around her. Her head throbbed slightly as she sat up, taking in her surroundings.

She got up from the bed and walked outside the room still in her transparent nightgown and Rome jacket.

“You’re awake” Rome questioned at the sight of seeing her.

“What happened” she questioned trying to find herself a sit.

Why don't you get a shower and change your clothes first Rome replied walking towards the kitchen.

“What's smelling” am starving Ophelia declared ignoring his laments.

Am cooking something but you surely can't have a taste, not in that Rome replied.

Ophelia walked back to the room, she scanned through the room before locating the bathroom after taking her bath she looked around the room trying to find the wardrobe.

That's it she said opening it, wow this is huge she said at the sight of seeing the expensive dresses inside. She looked again and saw a lot of heels and bags. This is heaven she said with a beautiful smile.

She picked a simple dress and walked back out of the room.

She went straight to the dining and waited patiently for the food to come.

Suddenly Rome's phone blinked, she picked it up and walked towards the kitchen but the picture of the person on the phone got her.

It was Celine her very own boyfriend who became her enemy overnight. She was still daydreaming when she heard Rome's voice.

What are you doing with my phone he asked bewildered.

It's….its... You have a call she said stammering.

He merely collected the phone from her and said when you are done cooking your food and getting up earlier tomorrow we need to be somewhere.

Before she could reply to him or say a word he had already left without a trace.

Ophelia fell slowly on her knees coming across Celine was her worst nightmare. The very person who put her in the position that she is today.

What is a Celine relationship with Rome? Is she perhaps the one who set our family up again she questioned herself.

She clenched her fist and grabbed the hem of her dress. “Celine Grey” I will make sure you pay for everything you did. She whispered as tears dripped slowly from her face.
