#91 The Cloaked Man: Part 2

Once I had finished eating, he stood and made another call. “She has finished the meal,” he said, his voice flat.

I stared at him, my heart sinking as I asked, as soon as he dropped the call. “Was the food drugged?”

He hesitated, the briefest flicker of worry, but he didn’t answer.

My mind raced. I should have been terrified of this man, but the feeling of familiarity wouldn’t leave me. It tugged at my memory, like a puzzle I couldn’t quite solve. He was strong, agile, and clearly powerful. But something about him seemed... lost. Like he didn’t know why he was doing this, or maybe he had forgotten.

Was he drugged, too? I wondered. Maybe he was just as much a prisoner as I was.

I closed my eyes, and finally, after what felt like an eternity, my wolf reached out to me.

"You are still with me," I whispered in my mind, relief washing over me.

"Barely," she responded. "We have been drugged twice, Elsa. If they drug us again, we might not have the strength to shift before the Blood Moon."
