“Will it be enough? You keep saying we will be together once you have enough power. But how long do I have to wait, Dane?” I asked, my eyes fixed on his.

Dane’s eyes flickered with irritation. “Don’t start with this again. You are an omega, Sylvie. The only reason people think you are a beta is because of me. You should be grateful I even keep you around."

Tears threatened to fall, facing his rejection. I should be used to this now. But every time, it hurt more.

His gaze softened, wiping the tear that had fallen. “How can you think of it now? You know why we are doing this. I need Linda's support. She is my fated mate." He sighed heavily.

I flinched at his words but forced myself to keep my composure. Even if he was trying to comfort me, his words pierced through my chest like a double-edged sword. This was the price I paid for my loyalty to him, for my ambition to rise above my station. I had to swallow the humiliation, the constant reminder of where I came from.
