Lillianna’s Point of View
After parking my bike a safe distance from Xavier's apartment, I walked towards it while constantly scanning my surroundings. I was aware that I was being watched, but I wanted whoever was observing me to know that I wasn't oblivious to their presence. Also, I needed to ensure that only Aamon's employees were keeping an eye on me at the moment.
I noticed two strategically positioned cars with a clear view of Xavier's apartment. I recognized the employees as very loyal to Aamon. They were just as skilled and deadly as me. He wasn't leaving anything to chance, which was worth noting.
As I turned to go, I caught sight of two people watching me who I recognized. When my eyes locked with theirs, they got out of their vehicle and started to advance on me. They were bold and stupid—very, very stupid. They had no idea who they were messing with.
“You have a lot of nerve coming here, Lillianna,” Sam shouted, her tone laced with anger and disbelief.
My hands curled into tight fists as I met her gaze, fighting to control my rage. Every fibre of my being wanted to take care of this bitch once and for all. But I knew that any action on my part would be impossible in the presence of the Brzezinski family's enforcers, who were vigilant in watching our every move. I could feel their eyes on me, and I knew I needed to choose what I did next very, very carefully.
“What exactly are you two doing here?” I asked, my voice icy and cold.
“Waiting for you,” Chloe spoke up.
I arched an eyebrow and looked at her like I had no clue what she was talking about.
“I thought it was pretty desperate that you would try and interrupt Rei’s date with Xavier, but this is next level, even for you, Lillianna,” Sam scoffed.
"Why can't you just stay away from him?" Chloe's voice was sharp with frustration.
“You could have anyone, Lillianna. You are gorgeous. Xavier doesn’t even love or want you! He’s told you as much! I thought you liked Rei. Or at least you seemed to when we were all out together. She’s such a kind person. Why would you want to hurt her like this?” Chloe pleaded.
“Xavier belongs to me, not Rei. We’ve been together for the past ten years, best friends supporting one another and also in each other’s bed. This won’t last with her. Xavier has secrets that Rei won’t be able to handle. He’s done things she couldn't even imagine, and once she finds out, Rei won't want him anymore,” I retorted.
“I highly doubt that Xavier would have done anything so unforgivable that Rei could not want to be with him. Not after what Greg did to her,” Chloe sighed.
An insidious thought slithered into my mind, sending a wicked grin creeping across my lips. What if I were to carefully plant seeds of doubt in their minds? Chloe appeared weak and easily influenced, her malleable nature making her the perfect target. And Sam...oh, how I loathed that arrogant bitch, but even she was not immune to my cunning tactics.
“Are you sure about that, Chloe? How much do you know about your friend’s new boyfriend?” I taunted.
Chloe and Sam stared at me in disbelief, their gazes filled with judgment and doubt. But it only fueled the fiery rage that burned inside me, growing stronger with each disbelieving glance. I was growing tired of them, very, very tired.
Xavier had been secretly pining for Rei for over ten years. He knew her every habit, from how Rei took her coffee to her daily caffeine intake. He even knew about her husband's infidelity before Rei did.
"Xavier has been obsessed with Rei for so long. He would do anything for her," I seethed, unable to contain my anger.
Sam just rolled her eyes and asked me to get to the point.
"How far do you think Xavier would go to have Rei all to himself? Do you think he would harm anyone who hurt the woman he's been in love with since he was a teenager?" I growled.
“Rei hasn’t been with anyone since Greg divorced her. What are you talking about?” Sam shouted.
I looked up to see that the enforcers were out of their vehicles and watching our interaction very closely. I need to be quick about this.
I stepped forward, and Sam flinched just as I thought she would. She was all bark and no bite. Such a little bitch.
"It's true that Greg Ravenscroft divorced Rei and left her, but isn't it strange that he and his new wife have completely disappeared without a trace? They haven't had any contact with Rei or their children since he left. Even the Ravenscroft family hasn't heard from them. I can't help but wonder what could have happened," I said in a hushed tone, my voice carrying a sense of malice.
"What are you trying to say, Lillianna?" Sam demanded, her voice betraying a hint of fear and uncertainty. It surprised me; I had expected Chloe to be the first to crack.
“Well, think about it. We all know how Xavier found Rei in a broken-down car on a rural road during a treacherous rainstorm. Who rides their motorcycle in that weather unless they know where they are going and there is a very important reason for it? How did he know where she would be and that Rei would need help?” I said, my voice just above a whisper as Chloe and Sam looked increasingly uncomfortable and scared.
Instead of being annoyed, I began to be amused. I could easily manipulate this situation.
“Xavier is extremely resourceful and knows how to make things disappear and find things people want hidden. Wouldn’t it be something if the disappearance of the Ravenscroft family was linked to him?” I grinned wickedly.
"If I'm as dark and twisted as you claim," I hissed, locking eyes with Sam, "then what does that say about Xavier? He's been my best friend and favorite fuck for over a decade."
"Don't you think I know him better than anyone?" I challenged.
“Are you trying to make us believe that Xavier removed Greg and the Ravenscroft family from the equation? That he did something to make them disappear?” Chloe accused.
“Maybe, maybe not,” I shrugged.
“Just remember, you don’t really know him. You’re both fucking his best friends too. How well do you know them?” I asked.
As I walked away, Sam called out my name. I had no interest in engaging with them any longer. I continued walking, not even bothering to turn back and give them a chance to speak. Instead, I raised my middle finger at them as a final message that I was finished entertaining their nonsense.

Aamon’s Point of View“No wonder Mom wouldn’t let us play GTA,” whispered Onyx.“I’m pretty sure that is NOT the reason,” Shiloh admonished him with a glare.“Is this why Mom was always confused when the bills would mysteriously get paid?” Shiloh asked me, and I nodded.“My step-father, your grandfather, wanted Rei to have the freedom to live without worrying about who she was. There’s a legacy with being part of the Brzezinski family, expectations and dangers he didn’t want to touch her,” I tried to explain.“Why now? Why not when we were little, and Mom was struggling? Why not when the other kids at school made fun of us for not having a father? Is it because you are with Aunt Grace now? Is that why?” Shiloh fired questions at me as quickly as she could, with tears streaming down her cheeks and her lip quivering. My heart broke for my niece. These were valid questions—ones I had asked myself countless times, wondering when, if ever, we would be allowed to claim them as our family fi
Rei’s Point of ViewI was happy, happier than I could ever remember being. Being with Xavier brought a peace that I’d never known before. It was so relaxed and natural like we’d known each other all our lives. However, it was clear that we hadn't, as when we were talking while doing the dishes together, I learned things about him, and he was surprised to learn new things about me. Somehow, Xavier seemed to think he already knew everything there was to know about me, and that made me smile. He was so confident in me, in us. I didn’t deserve someone like him, but I was grateful for him. Not many men would want someone who would involve an instant family and a lot of baggage from a previous relationship I’d only started healing from.We were cuddling on the couch while Xavier tried to pick a movie for us to stream, and I was texting Grace. I was surprised when she texted "yes" but then called a few minutes later.“Do you mind if I take this?” I asked Xavier, sitting up concerned.I found
Xavier’s Point of ViewStrangely enough, as soon as I walked out of the room to give Rei some privacy, Matt called me.“Hey, I need to talk to you about something important. Sam called me in a panic a few minutes ago and made me promise to call you,” my friend said.“Sure, what’s going on?” I asked, concerned.“Sam and Chloe were convinced that Lillianna would show up at your place after what happened at the restaurant last night. No one put up with her crap for once, and Alex even walked her to the door to make sure Lillianna left. She was pissed! So the girls decided to do a “stake out” and watch to see if Lillianna showed up at your place,” Matt explained. My hand tightened around my phone, and I tried not to panic. I knew there were enforcers from the Brzezinski family watching over us. Plus, I changed locks and updated my security system. There wasn’t a way for Lillianna to get into my apartment without me knowing. I’d fixed the window she used to sneak in the day the locks were
Prologue: Secrets and LiesRei's Point of ViewThe rain continued to pour, illuminating the sky with lightning as thunder roared. My car started to sputter and eventually came to a halt, leaving me with no choice but to pull over to the side of the road. When I tried to restart the car, I only heard a single click, indicating that we were now stranded. With another loud thunderclap and lightning flashing across the sky, my children, all under five years old, began to cry out in fear. They were frightened by the loud noises, the darkness, and my struggle to hide my growing panic.Shiloh's small voice from the back seat asked, "It's okay, right Mama?""Sure, honey. I'll call for help and try to arrange a tow truck," I replied, sounding as reassuring as possible.A tear of frustration trickled down my cheek because handling this situation alone was not what I should be doing. Greg should be here to assist, but he's not, and I have only myself to hold accountable for that. Scrambling for
Rei’s Point of ViewI gazed into the mirror, puzzled by the unfamiliar reflection. Grace whistled, catching the attention of Alex, Chloe, and Sam nearby.Grace had styled my hair in a sleek ponytail, added dangling silver earrings, and painted my nails red."Wow, you look stunning," Alex exclaimed admiringly."Behave yourself," Sam scolded, playfully hitting him on the head."Hold on, let's add something," Chloe suggested, grabbing a bold red lipstick and swiftly enhanced my lips. She then applied eyeliner and lush lashes with remarkable speed."Do you think this is okay? How do I look?" I inquired, glancing at the satin red dress hugging my figure and the striking black heels Grace had chosen for me."Rei, if we weren't friends, and I wasn't taken, I'd be all over you," Alex jokingly remarked, earning another playful smack from Sam. Despite her annoyance, I couldn't help but laugh at their banter. We met during freshman week at Hillcrest University, where I enrolled despite not meeti
Xavier’s Point of ViewShe was beautiful in an unassuming way, utterly oblivious to how she captivated everyone around her. She was sweet, kind, caring, and stunning. We had met by chance years ago, but I knew she didn't remember me. Her car had broken down on the side of the road in the pouring rain late at night, and I had stopped to check if everything was alright. I had scared the crap out of her, pulling over to the side of the road on my motorcycle to check on her, and then she apologized profusely, thanking me for waiting with her until the tow truck she had called finally arrived to help. The poor girl had her heart and dreams shattered by the local rich kid who thought the pasture was greener on the other side. He’d moved on and up, away from our little town with his new wife and family. Money could buy you a new life, it seems, as well as numb any conscience you once had.I was a few years younger than Rei. Rei’s Point of ViewThe gentle breeze rustled my sundress while I stood by his motorcycle. The sun's warmth caressed my skin, and I found solace in his company. His face was hidden behind the helmet he never seemed to remove, yet he lifted the visor to reveal his sparkling, captivating hazel eyes. I returned the gesture with a sweet smile, my blue eyes reflecting my happiness with him. Amid my chaotic life, X brought a sense of tranquility and serenity that I couldn't find elsewhere. We stood together, silently watching the sunrise, our hands intertwined. I yearned to hear his deep, resonant voice, which always touched my soul. But in this dream, he was silent, not saying a word. X had a gift for making me smile and sharing improbable stories that held me captive. He believed I needed more laughter to rid my soul of sadness and affirm my inner and outer beauty. In my dreams, X always made me laugh and feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. I wished with all of my heart he wo
Rei’s Point of View“Grace, I’ve got to go. The house won’t clean itself and there are no children here right now to completely undo everything I’ve done. If I'm fortunate, I might have a few minutes to savor the tranquility and cleanliness before heading to work," I chuckled wryly.“A home with children isn’t supposed to be spotless. Tidy? Yes. But spotless, absolutely not,” Grace groaned. No wonder she was the cool aunt; I knew she was right, but it was still nice to have a clean home. Sigh.“Rei, you promised us we could celebrate your birthday. Your birthday was a month ago,” Grace reminded me.“I’ve been busy,” I muttered.Truthfully, I didn't want to go out. I had been to the club with Grace before, and it was enjoyable, but she was always trying to set me up with someone.“I won’t try to set you up with anyone this time if you go,” Grace pleaded."Shiloh said she would babysit too if I paid her," Grace added hopefully. "You could crash at my place, like old times. Please? It'll
