Richard POV
"Have a seat, son," My dad says, and I frown, watching as my mother sits next to him, crossing her legs. I take a deep breath, undo the buttons from my jacket, and sit next to Pamela. She looks at me and then focuses her eyes back on my parents, and I can tell she is uncomfortable.
"Okay, can someone please tell me what the hell is going on?" I ask, and my mother clears her throat and looks at me, raising her head high.
"Mia will stay here with us for the next foreseeing time," she says, and I rest back on the couch and laugh. I can't control myself, and when I stop, I look around the room. All three of them are looking at me with wide eyes and open mouths.
"Is this some sort of sick joke?" I ask, and my father clears his throat as he stands up and walks to the bar.
Layla POVWork was a nightmare today. And I can't wait to get home and sleep. As I open the door, I see Jo grabbing her jacket, and I frown. She's going somewhere. Jo starts shaking her head as if trying to ask me not to say anything. "Where are you going?""I'm going to see my parents for a couple of weeks. Mom wants me to spend Thanksgiving with them," Jo says. I look down at my shoes, and I just start walking away."Have fun," I say. I know it sounds more venomous than it should. But we always spend those dates together. And I guess I am jealous because she has loving parents, and I don't. She has people that want to be around her for her."Layla?" Jo calls for me, and I stop walking, turning to face her."I know we had plans for Thanksgiving, but you have a boyfriend now, a man that kisses the floor
Layla POV"Come in," Richard says, and I nod slightly. His house is impressive, simple, all in dark wooden colors and white. The floor is laminated, and it even shines oil, how polished it looks. I look around as he guides me to the living room gayer taking my jacket off and placing it near the door."This way is the kitchen, he says, pointing to his right. I look but can't really see inside through the double doors, and he guides me to the living room. Where a big tv hangs on the wall, and the couch is massive and dark brown. I smile at the sight of it. I love a good couch. I can imagine cuddling up to Richard under a blanket and watching a film here.In the middle of the coffee table is a big flower vase. Fresh flowers. I can smell them, and I have to say I am surprised. I wouldn't take him as a natural fresh flowers kind of guy."You're very quiet," Richard whispers in my ear as he pulls me into an embra
Layla POV"Mia, can I come in?" I ask in the hope she will let me in. I hold my breath. Waiting for her response, but instead of words, I watch as she moves the curtains and she stands in front of me with her arms crossed in front of her chest in a contained kind of way."What do you want?" She asks, and I nod slightly. I look into her eyes, and they are just like Richard's. She looks so much like him that it is overwhelming. The way her eyes hurt looks just like his downstairs."I would like to talk to you, woman to woman," I say, and her eyes change. She doesn't look as upset. She looks respected. She nods slightly, moving away from the doorframe and allowing me into her room. It's every girl's dream room, and it looks like a princess lives here."Wow, your room is beautiful," I say, and she ignores my comment sitting on her bed watching me. She is still no
Richard POVHaving Layla here makes sense. It makes everything perfect. I could get used to having her around. I never brought anyone home except Pamela. Layla is the only woman I have dated in all these years that I flew like bringing home, and I decided to show my personal space.I have to keep my private life very private because everywhere I go, I have cameras following me, I have cameras trying to get something out of me, and this is my secret space. This is where I am, and no one has any access.Angie says that dinner is served, and now I have to go face my teenage daughter. That is becoming worse with every breath she takes. I don’t know what I have done wrong for her to hate me like that.“I’ll go get Mia for dinner,” I say, and Layla rests one hand on my arm, stopping me. I find
Layla POV "Why don't you spend the night?" Richard asks, and I shake my head. I don't want to push the limits. We were lucky that Mia gave us her blessing, and I don't want to make her uncomfortable by invading her space and spending the night here as soon as she tells us she is okay with us being together. "I can't, I need to go home, and you need to spend some time with your daughter, without me, just the two of you, watch a movie, have some ice cream, actually listen to her," I say, and Richard nods. We had a serious conversation about his relationship with Mia, and it's so broken that is going to take a lot of effort on his part to make it right. "I'll get Nando to drive you," Richard says, and I shake my head again. "I have an Uber on the way. Let the man rest, " I say, kissing his nose, and he smiles.
Layla POV I open my eyes and close them almost immediately. The sun passing through the windows almost blinds me. I hear a door opening, and I move to feel like I am lying in a cloud. Everything is soft and feels so good. “Breakfast in bed,” I hear Richard’s voice, and I smile, sitting up in bed while he puts a massive tray in front of me. There’s everything you can think of, fruit salad, orange juice, croissants and toast, and the most important thing, coffee with creamer. “This smells and looks amazing,” I say, and he nods, kissing me softly on the top of the head before he walks through the bathroom door. I start drinking my juice and smile. It’s really fresh squeezed orange juice. Who has the time to do this in the morning? “What time do you have to go to work?” Richard asks as he walks back into the room. I look at him wearing tracksuit pants and a T
Richard POV "No, I don't care about any of that. Keep her name out of everything", I say over the phone to Dylan. He needs to help me get this shit sorted. I have never been in the headlines for something like this. I roll my eyes. "You do realize you're fucked, right?" he asks, and I can tell by his tone that he is enjoying this more than he should. Fucker. "Dylan, just get it fucking sorted," I bark, and he takes a deep breath. "Have you talked to Gilmore?" He asks. I know he is only trying to help, but I need him to get his hands on every article that hasn't come out yet and kill it. I don't need any more press on my relationship, let alone on me punching that fucker. "I'm calling him right now; just get it done, Dylan. This can kill my reputation," I say, and he laughs on the other side. "Maybe you should've thought about that before y
Layla POV “Mia, call your mom, go stay with her; Layla, you stay here,” Richard says, and I can feel Mia tensing up next to me. Her eyes meet mine as the police officer starts to read Richard his Miranda rights. When they are done, they pull a set of handcuffs, and Richard scoffs. I watch everything as if my body is paralyzed. I can’t believe this is really happening. Why is James doing this? “Do we really need that? I haven’t resisted my arrest, I am cooperating, and I am standing here in front of you”, Richard says with the calmest tone of voice I have ever heard. The man is like a rock, and I have to say that if this wasn’t a stressful situation and this wasn’t real, I would be turned on right now. “Let’s go,” The officer says, and Richard walks to Mia, kisses her on the top of the head, and rubs one finger over her lip. I watch as he walks out of his house, head held high, and when the door closes, I collap
Richard POV“I can’t believe this is actually happening” I let out and Dylan smiles as he adjusts my butterfly tie. I take a deep breath and I have to say I am nervous as hell. The door opens and Fred walks through the door.“Hey, how are you feeling, old man?” He asks before he pours himself a glass of champagne. I shrug my shoulders and Dylan looks at Fred shaking his head.“He is nervous as fuck” he says and Fred laughs as he crosses his legs.“I bet you are, after all, it’s the second time you're doing this,” Fred says and I shake my head focusing on his face.“Third,” I say and his mouth opens wide and Dylan frowns looking at me.
Layla POV “What are you doing?” I ask as Richard blindfolds me and guides me to the car. I smile as he places one hand on my lower back while the other holds my hand. “Come on, where are we going?” I ask but again all I get is a small kiss on the lips after we are inside the car. The drive takes more than one hour. I have no clue where we are now. There are so many places that he could’ve taken me in one hour or so. When the car comes to a stop and Richard helps me out of the car I feel the cold wind blow and I realize we are somewhere open, without buildings or trees. My hair flies in every direction and I bet I will look like I have a helmet on my head. “Where are you taking me?” I ask at the same time he scoops me off the floor. I let out a small squeal as I feel him going upstairs. Where the hell are we? “Good evening Mr. Ashford” I hear someone say.
Layla POV“How is she? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” I ask Dylan as he takes a deep breath after telling me that Jo spent Christmas in the hospital. We both had shit holidays.“You were recovering from brain surgery. Do you really think I was going to tell you that Jo had a panic attack and ended up hooked up to fluids in the hospital?” He asks as if I am the crazy one.“Yeah,” I say, grabbing my phone and dialing Jo’s number. She answers almost on the first ring.“I am sorry, I am so sorry, I really am sorry,” she says as she answers, and I feel my heart beating so fast I can’t even cope with it. I place one hand over my chest where my beating heart is and take a deep breath.“No,
Layla POV“I open my eyes, and I find my mom sitting on a chair next to me. I frown and look around, realizing I am in a hospital room. I blink several times until my vision focuses but no luck. I lick my lips, but my tongue is so dry it feels like I have sand in my mouth. Argh, my entire body hurts. I try to remember what happened, but I really can’t.The door opens, and Louise walks in, followed by Mia. When her eyes meet mine, the biggest smile appears on her face while my sister stays exactly the same way. “Layla, finally,” Mia says as she ruses to stand next to me. My mom hearing the voices opens her eyes and walks to me, holding my hand between hers.“Oh my God, how are you feeling?” My mom asks, but as I try to speak, it becomes a little difficult. I frown as my voice doesn’t sound the same. “Relax, baby, you ha
Richard POVWe’ve been sitting in these uncomfortable chairs for hours. Mia is asleep with her head resting on my shoulder while my brothers are wide awake with me. I keep trying to push away the horrible feeling I have in the pit of my stomach. I take a deep breath, and Mia opens her eyes.“Is everything okay?” She asks. I offer her a small smile and stand up. My entire body is aching at this point. We have been here for hours without news because we are not related to Layla. Her mother is on the way, and even though I said I am her fiancé, the doctor, and not saying anything. This is ridiculous.I have tried to throw money around, I tried to offer a big donation to the hospital If they allowed me to go see her, but it didn’t work. My father kept asking me to stay calm. This is a hospital, people are sick, and at least we know she is
Richard POVWhen we arrive at the house, I feel every hair in my body rises. I shake my head as I cross my arms in front of my chest. I am behind the police barrier, and they're not allowing me to go inside with them. This is ridiculous. He could be hurting Layla as we speak, and they are here playing police officers and trying to negotiate with him. Just fucking go inside and bring her out. Or even better, let me go inside, and I will bring her out after I knock him down.Jude is standing next to me, and he is keeping my father and my brothers updated while I walk around like a maniac trying to escape the torture I am being put through. “When are you going to invade the place?” I ask the detective, and he looks at me as if I have three heads. What the hell is wrong with people?“We need to make sure he is alone. I can’t just send my men blind,” he says, and I scoff as I shake my head
Layla POV“James, let me go,” I plea as he tightens the zip ties around my wrists. It hurts me, and I flinch as he stands in front of me, his nose almost touching me. I feel the tears rolling down my cheek while he smiles and rubs his nose over my cheek as he inhales deeply. I shut my eyes tightly, turning my head away from him.“You smell so good,” he finally says, and I feel my stomach turning. I have no clue where we are, it’s dark and there’s only a small light in the corner of the room. I can see windows, but it’s too dark outside to even know where we are.“James, please, let me go,” I cry but he doesn’t move. He stays in front of me, and slowly, he places both his hands on my legs I try to push him away but my ankles, but I can’t. I have zip ties around my ankles as well, holding me on the chai
Richard POV“Pamela dear, there’s been a mistake. You are not sitting here. You’re on my table,” my mother says, and I swear I could just shout at her right now. This woman is infuriating. The way she tries to make Layla feel shit in front of her is crazy. I look at my mother with a smile, and I can tell by Dylan’s eyes he knows what I am about to do. “Excuse me, I need to freshen up,” Layla says, walking away before I even have a chance to do anything.“That was rude,” Pamela says, and I look at her as Mia rests one hand on my arm. “Dad, don’t,” she pleas with me, and I take a deep breath. I take one step closer to my mother, and between greeted teeth, I start talking. “Layla will sit next to me, whether you like it or not, she is my fiancé, and you better keep up with the program
Layla POV After the silent auction, we are all taken to the dining area. This is an event like a wedding, with round tables with beautiful linen spread all around the room. Big vases with red and green flowers and ornaments. I have to say that Cruella can definitely put on a show. She really knows what she is doing. Kudos to her. Mia walks to her table, and she scrunches her nose when she notices who’s sitting next to her. Richard walks to her, checking on the sitting chart, and I can tell he is not happy either. I have no clue where we’re sitting, and when he offers me his hand, I take it, and he places a small kiss on my finger next to my beautiful diamond ring. I can feel my cheeks go warm. Damn, this man has the ability to leave me flushed. “I promise I will make this right,” he says, and I frown, looking at Mia and then at Richard, and that’s when I realize
