Chapter 141: The promise

Imela’s POV

I knew what I saw; it was Cecil. I hadn’t seen her in months, but she was at the party.

Oliver didn’t say it; he didn’t have to say it, but it was on his face, in his eyes, and in how he stared at me. He didn’t believe me, not really, and he looked more guilty. I sounded crazy to him, and he blamed himself for it, but I wasn’t crazy, and this wasn’t his fault. There was a grand scheme at work, and we were all a part of it. Kimberly told me that at the party, and though she might have referred those words to her relationship with Marcel, they could have meant more.

He cupped my face, and his thumb caressed my cheeks tenderly. “Cecil is in prison, my love,” he replied.
