Last day of work

Scarlett's pov

“Scar! You are late!”

One of the oldest head maids of our pack, Mrs Fernandes says and I rush towards the kitchen. Holding the counter to breathe.

“Wh…where is it?”

I ask, trying to catch my breath. To only have her motion towards the empty cup of coffee placed on the counter, along with coffee beans and milk.

I look at her, to only sigh.

“You didn’t make it? “

She just shrugs her shoulders to continue chopping the vegetables.

“For a change I did Scar. But he wants coffee especially made by your hands.”

“He made me drink it instead”

I wanted to roll my eyes at Leo's childish behaviour.Is this man serious?

“Fine! I will make it. Anyways, it’s the last time I will be making it for him.”

I say the last line lowly, to suddenly feel bad. Oh come on Scar! Don’t tell me you will get nostalgic over a coffee now.

Mrs Fernandes,turns to look at me. She knows, like most of the pack members. That it is my last day here.

“You are such a nice girl Scar. You have done so much for us. We will never be able to pay you back.”

“We will miss you”

I leave the coffee for brewing, to only hold her shoulders. Seeing her trying to hide those tears that lined her eyes.

“I will come to visit Mrs Fernandes. Don’t be like this “

“Or I will cry with you”

She smiles to pull me back for a hug and I tightly hug her back. Damn, it’s going to be way worse than I thought.

I am already trying hard to not cry everytime.

“Okay. We won’t cry. But you tell me, what do you want from this granny of yours? I will grant all your wishes today.”

I laugh. Smiling.

“What about a lavish building, 4-5 pack grounds, a seat in a council and….cupcakes made by you?”

She blinks at my request. And I literally smile at her innocence.

“How much will it cost? Wait I will-“

“Granny! I was joking! How can you take this seriously?”

Her expression relaxes suddenly. To only kiss my forehead.

“I can give you anything you ask. Don’t hesitate…really.”

“I want nothing Granny. Just one thing.”

“what?”

She asks and I hold her hand in mine. Placing it above my head.

"Take good care of Leo after me. He doesn't even remember to eat sometimes."

And she smiles. Nodding.

“And one thing more!"

"Your blessings.”

Tears lining her eyes, drop finally. To have her pull me for a hug.

“Oh my daughter. My blessings are always with you. Forever.”

I reach his room to only find it empty. The sound of shower still running. Placing his coffee on a side table, I hurry up and take out his favourite outfit.A grey shirt and black trousers. With a black tuxedo.

 He looks so good in black.

Dismissing my thoughts, I hear the door opening. To only have my saliva get stuck in my throat.

He was half  naked . Those bulging muscles, showing.

It’s not that I haven’t seen him before like this It’s just that this was the last time I will be seeing him.

Can I stop time right now? I really wanted to take a picture.

“Coffee?”

He asks, bringing me out of my thoughts. To only make me rush to get the coffee. I pick up the cup. And was going to offer him, when my clumsy self decided to come in the limelight.

My foot got stuck on the carpet corner and I found my balance falter. When suddenly two strong hands hold onto the cluttering coffee. Steading me along.

“Careful”

Was all he said and I gulp. Looking into his eyes to blink in acknowledgement and lower my gaze.

“Ye…Yes Alpha”

Nodding he takes the cup from my hands making our fingers to slide pass. I gulp, lowering my hands.

He doesn’t seem to notice though, turning around he sips the coffee while looking at some papers on his table.

Suddenly a memory hits of me making his coffee for the first time .And I couldn’t help smile

He was such an arrogant brute. I remember him scolding me for not even doing a basic thing right .

And look now, he puts on tantrums to drink only my coffee.

I was smiling to myself. Lost in thoughts. When his voice made me look up in anxiousness.

“You said something, Alpha?”

He nods. Turning around to lean on the table, folding his one arm.

“I said you can stay here after marriage Scar. You know you don’t need to leave the pack, just for the sake of it.”

I blink. Just staring. Stay and do what? Look at him everyday and live in torture. See him find his mate and live happily ever after while I long for him. No thanks. I was good.

“I am afraid I can’t Leo.My mate’s pack needs me more now”

His eyes harden at me. Jaw clenched. To only have his grip on the burning cup of coffee to tighten.

“I see. You have already decided then “

“Leo plea-“

He doesn’t let me complete.

Placing down the cup with a thud on the Malonghany table. He turns his back on me again. Showing his hand.

“No need. Train your substitutes and get them ready for the job.”

I wanted to say so much, yet I couldn’t. Staring at his back, his words hit home. Why do I feel like this? I should be happy.

Then why aren’t I?

“This is my last order. You are free to leave after this “

I barely bow. Holding in my tears for the second time in a day.

“Okay.. I will leave then “

I turn around ready to rush out. When his words made me stop.

“Wait”

Hope rises in my chest. Will he try harder. Will he stop me?

I do mean something for him, right? Someone more than just being his Beta.

I look up at him in hope, to only have them crash down .

“Close the door after you.”

This? He stopped me for this? Clenching my fist, I slam the door after me instead. Fuming yet crying at the same time.

Man! I am messed up right now!I hope this gets over sooner.

I was in the training grounds. Looking at the warriors practicing. Noah stood beside me,as I explained him the role he needs to step into from tomorrow.

Noah Richards

The Gamma of our pack, who is going to take care of my Beta duties from now on.

A man of humour and intelligence, yet he can be stupid at times.

“So you are saying I am to do all this from tomorrow?”

I look at him to roll my eyes with a duh look on my face.

“Of course Noah. That’s why I am explaining you. If you ask Alpha these stupid questions, I bet he will demote you the very next second!”

“Sorry Scarlett. But I can’t. It’s THE Leonardo ! I am afraid of his presence in the room alone and you are asking me to stay with him the entire day as his Beta?  I am not you Scar! I can’t!”

I sigh. Leo had everyone so scared of him. I can’t blame them. He is an introvert and rarely opens up to anyone. Everyone does respect him, a lot. But they are hell more scared of him.

“I am not asking you Noah. I am telling you. This is your Beta’s order to you.”

He opens and closes his mouth. To finally lower his eyes. Knowing he wasn’t in the position to refute to my Beta tone.

“As you wish Scar.”

I nod. To place my hand on his shoulder.

“Good. And don’t worry. He is not as scary as he seems. ”

“Yaa sure. I can see that already.”

He says ironically ,looking behind me and I turn around to only have my heart thud.

Those blue eyes were fixed on me ,with an expression on his face which couldn’t be deciphered.His fists clenched as he just stares. Not affected by me catching him looking at me .

“Man, he looks like he will kill me.”

Noah says and I immediately drop my hand from Noah’s shoulder. To lower my eyes.

Why is he looking at me like that?

Is he still angry at me leaving the pack?

Why should it matter to him anyways. Wasn’t I just a Beta for him?

My chain of thoughts is broken by my phone ringing. And I gulp seeing the name of the caller.

“Excuse me”

Breathing heavily, I pick up the call. To greet politely.With a small smile on my lips.

“Hello Luna”
