"You do know that he could be dead, right?” I told him as I pulled out my tranquiliser and put it on the table. I took the seat that he had offered me. Hemsworth was walking back and forth in the room. His eyes were a burning shade of green. Was he going to shift into his wolf form? It was not rare for werewolves to shift into their wolf forms when angry or agitated but Gregory Hemsworth was an experienced Alpha rank wolf and I would have to bring his rank into question if he did lose his cool.
"You’re going to lose it, aren’t you?"I asked him with an annoyed look on my face just to anger him more. His eyes snapped to me as if I had just insulted him.
And then he growled.
"Okay.. you're losing it." I nodded.
"You're. Making. It. Worse." He bit out each word at me. I shrugged casually as I settled back in my seat. I was not afraid of him even though I knew he could cause me more harm than I could him. So I just waited until he calmed down.
"I just said it's possible for him to be dead, not that he's dead." I clarified, he looked at me, his eyes snapping back into their normal hazel colour.
"I am already regretting offering you the job." He muttered under his breath. I stiffened.
"Well, then. I can't say it was nice meeting you, stiff neck." I tossed at him as I stood up, reaching for my tranq, he had the nerve to call me in after a long night and then throw tantrums. Stupid high-handed male alpha-
"Wait." He said. I stopped.
His hands clenched on the table as if he were fighting for control, a tremor running down his face.
"It's really important that you.. find him." He said in a choked whisper. Clearly Devon knight meant more to him than he was letting on.
"You have to be honest with me then." I said as I saw the way he was staring at me. His hard stare remained on my face for a long time until he finally gave a curt nod and motioned for me to sit. I obeyed and looked at him curiously. Whatever he was going to say was probably not something he told many people, judging by his looks.
"What I am going to tell you is the sort of information that could get you killed." He warned softly, subtly asking me if I was going to give up. I just grinned at him.
He swore softly but ended up cracking a smile at me. "You're truly a piece of work, Agent Rivera." He said, his tone admiring.
"Yeah, I get that alot. Can you start?" I asked, impatiently but the compliment made me warm up to the werewolf sitting before me. Yes, I was easy like that.
"So listen carefully, agent. Three months ago, Devon was investigating a case, which was about a few Vampires gone missing when they were visiting Etherea for business purposes. Devon didn't think it odd for some of the creatures to go missing at first but then such cases kept surfacing more and more, Devon was unable to trace them or find any sort of pattern that could give him some clue.." Hemsworth paused as he dragged his fingers through his dark hair.
"He was restless and frustrated about the case.. that was until he met her. Ayrin Moors was working on a case similar to his, she was also an agent but from another branch of FRIO. She admitted to him that she suspected there was a werewolf pack involved with the missing vampires and that was a very dangerous thing to know. She also told him that she knew what was happening to the vampires, They were being sold to some research organisation in the human realm." He stopped and looked at me for some sort of reaction but all I did was give him a blank stare.
"She was found dead at her home a month after they started working together. Devon went wild when he found out about her death, he wanted justice for Ayrin. He marched to my office and got me to sign a contract that would allow him to enter the human realm. He set out to find the truth about the human organisation which was supposedly situated in Brazil and that was the last report I got from him."
I squirmed in the seat, something was making me uneasy.
"We don't know which werewolf pack it is?" I asked softly.
Hemsworth shook his head and looked down as he opened a drawer at his table.
"Read this. It's Devon's, I found it at his home." He said and slid the heavy looking bound diary towards me.
I hesitated as I saw the gold letter carvings on the leather case. "It's.. a diary." I whispered at Hemsworth with a slight frown. To sum it up, I was not comfortable with reading someone's private diary.
"Read it, agent. Devon must have mentioned something about the case in it." He drawled and stood up, signaling that the meeting was over.
I picked up my tranq and jammed it in my waistband. "One more thing. You leave for the human world after three days, agent." Hemsworth said just as I grabbed the doorknob. I raised one of my dark brows at him.
"You would need some disguise to cover up your scent and the.." He paused as his eyes bore into mine. He was talking about my eyes. Obviously having 'strange' lilac coloured eyes in the human world was bound to bring more attention towards me.
"Fine. Anything else?" I asked him sarcastically.
He sighed and waved me out.

I parked the pickup in the garage and pocketed the keys.
Rounding up to the front steps I unlocked the front door and slipped inside. It was dark and cold. I cursed as the chill traveled up my spine. I rushed to switch on the heater and hurried off into the bathroom.
I stood under the hot spray of water and sighed. Werewolves needed to remain heated up all the time or else it got our muscles locked up. Locked muscles were very painful if you had to change forms suddenly.
I soaked under the water for a long time and peeked at the rising sun through the tinted window of my bathroom. I lived in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by trees so I had no qualms about having a window in my bathroom. I dried off my skin with my fluffy towel and wrapped myself in it.
By the time I got into my room, it was nice and toasty with the bed calling me to crawl under the covers and slip into oblivion. The heater had done its job. I sighed and pulled the extra long full sleeved sweatshirt on, pulling my half dried brown hair into a high ponytail. The ticking clock on my bedside table said that it was close to 8 in the morning which was my usual time to sleep, the job always kept me up until dawn.
I picked up my dirty uniform, holding it with two fingers as I dumped it into the laundry bag but something fell off from it and thumped on the floor, I froze as I eyed the leather bound diary. My heart skipped a beat and I gulped before picking it up almost gently as I carried it with me to the bed.
I settled deeper into the pillows and placed the diary on my lap. Rubbing a hand down the rough leather, my fingers traced the deep claw marks on its surface. My body shuddered as I tried to imagine the marks those claws would leave when used over someone's skin. The diary looked old and well used, which would surely carry someone's life in it. All their secrets, all their thoughts. Was I really going to read it?
I groaned. I had to read it. Hemsworth had sounded certain that it must carry some important information. It left me with no choice.
I had the weirdest feeling as if someone was watching me as I slowly untied the leather cord which was binding the book close. My hands shook as I turned the cover and looked at the first page.

Today I killed for the first time, it was exhilarating. The excitement of the hunt, father's growled praises still echo in my ears even as I now sit in my room surrounded by complete silence. I can still smell the outdoors, the dirt, the grass, even the mist of Etherea. Milly still thinks she's faster than me, the chit doesn't get it that it's me who's going to take over papa's place after him. She's just going to leave one day with her mate. I don't want her to go, I would miss her. She was faster than me once, but after her illness, she just keeps hiding in the house. Father says she shouldn't go out, it's not good for her. I hope she gets better.
-Devon Magnus Knight.
I let out a soft sigh as I read the date again. It was 11 years ago. Considering that he's now 24 that would make him just 13 when he wrote the first entry and he had a sister.
I sighed and turned the page.
5/4/2008
Milly is ill. She's getting worse every week. Papa says she would get better because she is a knight but something doesn't feel right. She's too pale, her eyes don't shine anymore. She's so quiet. I miss her laugh, I haven't heard the sound since before she caught the illness. I am scared. I don't want to lose her.

I feel alone. Papa is gone just like Milly and Mama was never there to begin with. I feel like everyone I care for is snatched away from me. Are you punishing me? I ask the luna every night just before the beast takes over. I don't know how long I can handle this. I don't think I am strong enough. I am always angry, uncle Gregory said I have gone mad. I think he is right. It's always there, breathing down my neck.. the dark traces of my personality wrapping its arms around me, telling me to let go. I can see the beast everytime I look into a mirror. Its silver eyes, my eyes, flash back at me as if to remind me who's in control. I can't control the beast anymore.
"No." I whispered as I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. This was not what I had expected when Gregory Hemsworth had told me about the high ranking agent Devon Knight. I was expecting him to be an unfeeling, all concerned about his job kind of werewolf but now I had an image of him. A 16 year old boy, trying to keep himself composed as everyone he loved was snatched away from him.
I gritted my teeth and slowly turned the page.
23/2/2013
It's getting harder as I try to control myself every time I am reminded that I am all alone in this world. I don't want to be this way. I want my sister back, I want my Papa and Mama back.
4/7/2013
Uncle Gregory wants me to join his organisation. I don't think he's getting how dangerous I am. I doubt he knows how loose my hold on the beast is. My father would be so ashamed of me.

I got promoted today for returning some fae Lords back to their realms safely. Everyone says I should be happy and they are all treating me as if I have jumped down from heaven. I feel ridiculous as I don't want any of it. I just want to do my job. It's the only thing I like about my life right now. I can still feel the beast sometimes but it's quieter now. It's only when I am angry that he flashes through my eyes. I feel like I can finally settle in my life but I know I would never be happy.

Where were the creatures disappearing? It was as if they just popped into thin air. I have been searching till the ends of Etherea and they are nowhere, nor did they leave any trace. I just want to have the case solved and find the vampires. I met a young werewolf yesterday, he said he had scented the vampires near the portal that leads to the human world. But why would the creatures enter the human world? Unless they were planning to kill, that can't be true.. because the treaty strictly forbids harming creatures of other realms which means the vampires did not venture into the human realm on their own, someone had taken them unwillingly.

I saw her today. She was sitting at the table across from me in the coffee house and kept staring at me. Her golden hair braided down her back and her soft blue eyes had flashed as they had landed on me. I wanted to go over and ask her name. It would have been awkward but I just wanted to hear her voice. I wanted to know if her voice was as sweet as her honey and lemon scent. She was so beautiful. She keeps haunting my dreams ever since I left the coffee house. I hope I see her again..

I know her name. Ayrin Moors. She's an agent who works for the same organisation as me. I met her at the office today. She approached me this time and I would have laughed at myself because I didn't know how to react as she introduced herself. All I could think about was how sweet and beautiful she looked. Her sea blue eyes were all I could focus on. She had turned me into a teenager with just a soft quirk of her lips. I still don't know what's happening to me. She also told me about how she remembered seeing me in the coffee house and that she's working on the same case as mine. What's worse is that she believes there is a werewolf pack involved with the disappearances and that they are sending the vampires to a research organisation in Brazil which happens to be in the human realm. I hope we solve this case together.

I kissed her. I don't remember how it happened, one moment she was smiling at me in that way of hers and the next thing I knew my lips were pressed on hers. It was like merging myself with her and what still surprises me is that she had responded. Her lips had moved against mine shyly while her hands slid around my neck. She's the only one who understands me. I told her about my family and my fears and she didn't even flinch as I told her about the beast. I think I am in love.
-Devon Knight
There was an ache in my chest as I read the last line again and again. He had been in love with her, he had made himself vulnerable to her and given her his heart and she too was taken away from him. I felt like my heart was breaking along with his.
Something wet slid down my cheek and I cursed softly. Life has been so unfair to you, Devon Knight. You deserve so much more.
I turned the page only to gasp as I saw the blank pages which were gouged with deep claw marks as if he had tried to destroy the book. There were no entries after that.
The loud banging at the door woke me up and I quickly reached for my gun which I always kept under the bed. I looked around frantically as I got out of the bed and out of my room, my footsteps light as a cat's.My eyes were pinned on the front door through the darkness as I stood there in the living room and then I smelled her. I sighed long and weary as I jammed the gun in the waistband of my shorts and strolled over to open the door. I slipped the keys which I always kept under the mat into the lock and the door opened with a soft creak. "Nesta!"Louisa Rivera threw her arms around me and nearly choked me in the process, I coughed softly and tried to extract myself safely away from my sister's crushing enthusiasm. The scent of her perfume coiling around me long after she let go. She looked well. Her dark brown hair pulled back into an elegant hairstyle, her eyes twinkled with happiness. "What are you doing here?" I asked her. "Well, Daniel was visiting some pack friends and we we
I plunged into the water and tried to drag air into my lungs, trying to prepare myself for the ice cold contact but it never came. I felt as if my body was locked in a casket with no air, like I was in vacuum and floating through the darkness which rippled with flares of blue, it was like nothing I had ever seen or experienced and then it ended as abruptly as it began.I was launched into the air, a sudden flash of green and blue and my body hit the ground. I groaned and sat up, hands clutching my head. A dull thud beside me announced the arrival of my luggage. I cursed and pushed myself up. It was then that I noticed my surroundings. I was standing near a small pond of sorts which could be nothing but the portal. The rich sounds of unfamiliarity echoed around me. I had to admit that it was one hell of a gloomy forest. What have you gotten me into Hemsworth? I picked up my bags and contemplated jumping back into the portal. It was a very good idea. I groaned. If it weren't for Devo
I tried not to look at the man walking beside me. Dr. O'neil was a handsome man, I would give him that but he was cold. He seemed the type to kick someone's dog just out of spite. Since dogs were close to wolves and wolves were closer to what I was.. you could hazard a guess that I was not comfortable with him. He had hurried me to change and had dragged me along with him. He hadn't even given me a chance to eat and as if on cue my stomach growled. "You should've had something to eat before coming with me, I intend to work till midnight." He said casually. "As if I had a choice! You literally dragged me along with you!" I shot him an accusing glance. The man just scoffed and kept on walking down the corridor and I had to follow like a puppy."Before we start, Miss Holroyd, I would like for you to go under some security procedures." He warned and opened the glass doors to his lab. I hesitated as I entered. "There are a bunch of papers on the desk, please sign them and we can begin
My stomach dropped as I stared at Dr. O'neil's smiling face. Behind him the rich darkness called to me and the beast's growls racked invisible claws down my back. This was no werewolf. Whatever it was, it wasn't of any world and there was Devon. The two scents confused me, I wanted to turn tail and run the hell out of that place. "Iris, my dear, don't be scared. It won't harm you." Samuel O'neil soothed as he saw my expression. The beast snarled from inside and it called to me. The vibrations of the sound hitting my bones, it was making my wolf excited. I took a few steps towards the door, my body shaking with fear and I could feel my bones shifting, my eyes burning and once again I was thankful for the darkness."Move." I snarled at the doctor and stepped past him inside the room. My heart skipped a beat as I glimpsed him. Silver, glowing, hot searing orbs. The silver so bright that I had to squint."What are you.." the words left my mouth with a rush of air. "He's my greatest expe
I stared at the hybrid sleeping in my bed. I had to inject him with one of the drug filled syringes to stop him from attacking me. I felt a stab of guilt for doing that but then I remembered the white bandage on the bite mark on my neck and shrugged. I did it to save myself. I shouldn't feel any sort of guilt. It had taken a lot of patience and strength on my part to drag him, who weighed double my body weight, up to my room in the dead of night without alerting someone of what I was doing. It was 3 am in the morning and I felt like I was run down by a truck. I stretched my body and let out a groan as I felt the knot in my back loosen. I staggered towards the bed and looked down at the still half naked Devon Knight. He looked so different when he slept. The lines of his face softened and his dark brows were relaxed, his sensual mouth curved into a peaceful half smile. The dark curtains of his lashes fluttered over his cheeks and I felt a spark of fear, my hand going immediately to t
"I am so sorry." I said miserably as I watched him stiffen, his eyes turning glassy as if he had gone numb. "I was too late. I am so sorry." I whispered and buried my face in his chest, breathing in the now familiar scent of his. He was silent for so long and I nearly jumped out of my skin when I felt a heavy arm wrap around my waist. He buried his face in the crook of my neck and froze. "A hybrid." He whispered against my skin. "A monster. I am truly a monster now." He said, his voice sounded shattered as if he were fighting some inner demons and I felt his body shake. His hands tightened around me, his fingers clenching around my waist. "I am a monster, Ayrin." He growled.I stiffened. He called me Ayrin. I didn't know why but that hurt me. I pulled my face away from his chest and pushed him back until he was forced to let go. I jumped out of the bed and stumbled to the bathroom, pulling the door closed behind me. I looked at my reflection in the mirror. My eyes looked pained. Wh
I sat down on the floor, trying to think of an escape plan. "How the hell are we going to get out?!" I shouted after some time. I was frustrated because the damned organisation was so well guarded that it was impossible to escape without getting caught. I snarled and jumped up, clutching my head with my hands. Impossible! "I can help you." He said from behind me. I groaned and turned to face him.He was fresh out of a shower, wet hair slicked back and a few locks curling at his neck, enticingly. He was wearing one of my oversized sweatshirts which was too tight for him, molding to his abs and his chest like second skin. His features were sharp, his nose straight and his eyebrows arched. His lips were slightly thin at the edges and it made him look too damn handsome and not to mention those gray orbs. He blinked and I realized that I was staring. "Uh.. what did you say?" I asked, trying hard not to cringe because of how breathless I sounded. "I can take us out of here." He said, h
Devon snarled and launched himself at the guard, his body changing right in front of my eyes until all that was left of him were the silver eyes on the huge black wolf that was tearing away viciously at the guard. I was shocked but I didn't waste time as I quickly pulled out my gun and kicked the other guard who had reached for me. His gun flew out of his hands and I didn't hesitate to shoot his leg. He howled as he went down.I picked up his machine gun and turned to face the third guard but he was not where he had been moments ago. I looked around sharply until I saw him moving slowly towards where Devon was clawing at the first guard. He had his gun trained on Devon's wolf form. I cursed and rushed for him but it was too late. A deafening sound came from the gun as I watched the bullets hit the wolf's black fur. He growled and his form trembled, his fur dripping with blood as he turned to look at the guard who was still pointing the gun at him, I shouted and fired at the guard blin
Nesta’s POV:I woke up to a cold feeling at my back as the breeze coming from the open window slid against my bare skin.I groaned and pulled up the silk sheets higher and almost jumped out of the bed when a large arm snaked around me and pulled me into a warm embrace. The fog of sleep cleared from my mind and I blushed as I remembered the events of last night. His touch was branded on my skin and I smelled like him from head to toe, anyone who saw me today would know what I had done last night. I buried my face in the pillow and snuggled into Devon, his chest pressing against my back and I felt him let out a small sigh, the masculine sound travelling through my body and I shivered. "Still cold?" He asked, his voice rough with sleep and I felt that churning at the pit of my stomach again. He rose on his hands and hovered above and I wrapped my arms around his waist instinctively, bringing him down as I kissed his brow and the soft flutter of his eyelashes against my chin made me
Nesta’s POV:Devon's fingers curled around my fisted hand and he slowly opened it to intertwine our fingers and brought it to his lips, kissing my knuckles as he breathed against my skin. "I am so sorry." He whispered in a breathless voice and I felt the self loathing and guilt of his through the bond, he felt scared at the prospect of losing me, that panic was eating away at him, he couldn't get the thought out of his mind, he thought that he would lose me just like he lost all of his family. I didn't know how I felt about the fact that I was not just a werewolf anymore and I didn't want to think about it so I decided to push it back and focus on Devon. He needed me. I made a soothing sound as I cupped his jaw in my hands, my own eyes tearing up at how much he was hurting inside."I am never going to leave you. You are my mate and my very heart beats just for you. I-I came back just for you." I told him, my voice cracking at the end as I remembered the darkness that had awaited my d
Devon’s POV:I rushed through the mansion, my feet almost slipping on the smooth floor, Daniel following behind. A few humans tried to intervene, servants who gave up after I knocked out one or two who were too bold to come in my way. I followed the scent of Nesta, through a dark corridor and down a dimly lit stairway and then I heard the voices and the slow but steady heart beat of my mate. She was alive, I growled and burst through the half closed door, the door banging on the wall. My eyes went straight to the pale naked body on the floor, the white marble of the room stained with red blood, I saw the torn skin at her neck, blood sticking to her pale skin, her cheeks were stained with tears and I couldn't control the snarl that ripped out of me, rage boiling my blood. "She's not dead!" Someone yelled and I looked at the man wearing the white coat, his brown eyes staring at me in fear and panic. I knew who he was. I didn't wait for him to speak again and launched myself at him, my
Devon’s POV:"She came to my lands, threatened to slaughter all my people if I didn't do what she wanted, I had seen her power, sensed her horrible hate, I knew she would do it if I refused and that was even before I met Louisa, my mate." His throat bobbed as he paused, his eyes not meeting mine. "She went away for a few years and I didn't hear from her until after I was mated to Louisa. I thought that she had forgotten about me but.." his lips twisted in a bitter smile as he looked up. "She sent a bloody heart in a gift box to my doorsteps to congratulate me on my wedding and then after a few months I received a summon, her asking me to attend a ball, to take my best assassin with me to take down the Ulfric and I was told to capture you as well but you left early that night, taking Nesta with you and I didn't get the chance, thank Luna. I was.. I was horrified. I didn't want to do it, even thinking about it was like going against the motherland. I couldn't do it and I went to her, t
Louisa’s POV:I could feel my heart calming as I dragged my fingers through Daniel's fur, he was sleeping in his wolf form, too exhausted to change forms and it was a good thing for him as being in his other form sped up his healing. I watched him snuggle into my lap and press his snout in my palm, his eyes opening and closing as he peeked at my face. I was happy and so relieved that he was back, I breathed in heavily as a scene from earlier flashed before my eyes. I was sleeping when the Beta's wife had barged in my room with a strained look on her face, I had expected the worse but when a bleeding Daniel had stumbled through the main door of the mansion, his feet bare and bleeding heavily on the white carpet as he had collapsed onto the tea table and turned into his wolf form. I closed my eyes and buried my face in his neck, nuzzling the fur there as we breathed together. My mate was alive and safe, it was like everything was right with my world again. A soft knock sounded on the
Nesta’s POV:My body was on fire, I wanted to get out of these damn clothes and I clawed at my skin, it was on fire too. Everything was so hot. Someone said something to me but I was not in the mood to listen as I ripped open my shirt and shrugged out of my pants, I needed to change. My bones shifted with each step I took, I needed to go out, feel the wet dirt beneath my paws, the crisp wind bit into my body as I raced through the forest, I wanted to talk to the mists, I wanted to be one with the forest and never come out. "Nesta, it's not like I don't appreciate the view but you need to get back in your clothes. I don't want to die at Devon's hands. Okay?" Xavier drawled from somewhere in the room but I wasn't listening. I was much too aware of my wolf and how angry she was, she was breaking free and I was letting her. I shook my head frantically and rushed towards the only door I could see. I didn't stop when he called again because I couldn't and didn't want to. I just wanted to b
Liberty’s POV:I woke up feeling as if a heavy weight was pounding down on my head, everything was blurred and misty in front of my eyes and my tongue seemed to be swollen like wool inside my mouth. I swallowed hard and shuddered, my ears twitched as I strained to hear the whispered conversation taking place somewhere in my vicinity. "I say, we should just finish her off." A man's voice whispered. "No! You fool! The mistress knows that we brought a girl, she already asked Talon to bring her in." Another voice said and a few sounds of rustling followed the conversation. I bit back a curse as my wrists chafed against the shackles connected to a rough brick wall. At least my legs were free. I gritted my teeth. How could I have been so careless as to let these stupid werewolves take me? What did they even want from me? My eyes slowly regained clarity as the effect of the drug they had injected in me started to fade. I could see a small wooden door fitted to a white washed wall, which
Nesta’s POV:Ivan stood beside me with a frown between his brows. "The Ulfric wants us to go there tomorrow." He said, running a hand through his curls. I gulped, my stomach churning at the prospect of going down south and confronting Daniel and his pack. I just didn't want to be a part of it but I had to, it was why I had been sent here."Then we will." I answered, my voice thick but steady. I had almost called Winterlash last night, intending to beg and even grovel at his feet for taking me off this mission. I wanted to plead with him to call me back home. I tensed as the scent of leather and ink flooded the drawing room announcing his presence even before he stepped into the room and Xavier mercifully stayed quiet as he glanced over his shoulder. "Devon." Ivan greeted him curtly and I waited for him to speak. There was only silence that met my ears, a swirling energy drawing close to us as Devon neared, aggression filling the room."Greetings, Devon." Xavier drawled and it was o
Nesta’s POV:"Don't think that you are off the hook." He whispered in my ear from behind and I shuddered. "We still need to talk." He said and this time I felt the lightest touch of his fingers against my back and he was gone, he was standing in front of me gazing at me with a cool detachment. I sighed. "Why did you call me here?" I asked him, giving my surroundings a quick searching look. We were on the terrace, he had asked me to come up to meet him, the night sky was cloudy and there was no wind stirring, making the weather humid. "Ivan found out the owner of the number." He said and I stilled. "When?" I whispered, excitement stirring up my energy. "Last night." "And you're telling me now?!" I exclaimed. He shrugged and looked over my shoulder and behind himself as if checking for any eavesdroppers. "There is no one here." I said, he was making me paranoid. "Talk!" I hissed. His lips pressed into a thin line as he regarded me with those cold eyes. Why was he staring at me l
