"If midnight finds you in that goddamn party, just find a place to stay!"
My mother's words echoed in my head as I arrived at Sydney's place. She was not approving the party but as my father said, I needed to make friends and interact with the people I was gonna be schooling with.
I was clad in a knee-length, white cotton dress that hugged my slim figure impeccably. The dress was decent, except for the part where it exposed a whisper of my breast cleavage. I had to wrap a scarf around my neck region to hide my exposed flesh.
My feet were adorned with low-heeled silver ankle boots.
It was around 6 pm and the music blaring from the stereo was enough to awaken Egyptian mummies from their place of rest. The windows and everything else that was in close proximity were vibrating in response to the tormenting beats of the song.
A short runty lady, whom I assumed to be the help, ushered me into the bungalow. Knowing the reason for my arrival, she escorted me to the venue of the party, which was at the swimming pool area.
A pool party, cool!
I thanked the kind lady who smiled in return then strolled off.
The pool area was massive enough to accommodate an entire whale. Bodies of teenagers both male and female, danced to the catchy beats of whatever song was playing. Most of them were drunk, judging by the staggering movements and the nauseating stench of alcohol that wafted in the room. A mixture of expensive colognes suffocated my nasal cavity, triggering a sneeze from me.
I hate strong perfumes! I inwardly lamented.
The place was decorated with bright yellow balloons which were engraved with the words,' Happy birthday Sydney'
Neon lights from the bulbs flickered in some parts of the room thus creating a lovely ambience.
My eyes darted around in an attempt to locate Sydney but they landed on several teenagers making out in the dimly lit corners of the room, while others were playing beer pong. Some were playing in the cerulean pool water by splashing water on each other.
I was stunned upon not spotting Sydney because I knew no one except for her.
A frustrated groan left my lips as I strolled into the area. I decisively marched to the end of the pool where there were vacant benches.
A thought crossed my mind as I plopped on one of the benches. I took out my phone and commenced scrolling through it, in an attempt to busy myself. Suddenly, someone snatched it from me.
"Hey angel, wanna dance with me?"
I whipped my head to locate the intruder.
My eyes landed on a tall masculine figure. He was clad in a dusty noir tee shirt that hugged every contour of his manly chest. His massive biceps bulged under the pressure of his short-sleeved tee. His dark blue pair of denim pants fit his posterior impeccably. Due to the neon lighting of the room, I was unable to clearly make out his facial features.
I stood up intending to grab my phone back but unluckily, someone showed up behind him. He was jabbed on the shoulder and as a result, he stumbled forwards, towards me.
I stepped aside, avoiding the collision of his body with mine.
"You are drunk, man. We better get going," a deep familiar voice ordered. I didn't see the guy's face but I grasped his attire.
A baggy silver hoodie cap covered most of his face. Part of his hair was resting lazily against his forehead. He reminded me of the boy that I met at the stream earlier.
"Oh come on! Okay, let me have a dance with her and we will leave." He turned to me, letting out a burp that reeked of whiskey then held his hand out for me.
I outstretched my hand and demanded in irritation, "Can I have my phone back? "
"Darl-" he commenced but I rudely interrupted.
"Phone!" I insisted, my eyes not leaving his dazed ones.
He just cackled, facing the other boy over his shoulder, then pointed his thumb at me, "they-act like this-then -I finally take them to bed," he slurred his words.
I laughed silently, biting my lip in frustration. I was about to say what I felt the jerk deserved but the other boy stepped between us. He had taken the phone from him and then handed it to me.
"Here," he placed it on my palm. His deep voice was low. It felt like he was talking to himself.
I decided to leave before I could end up screaming and taking out my anger on them.
I thrust my phone into the clutch I was carrying as I galloped towards the exit. My conscience warned me to watch my steps but I was too late since I had made an accidental step that sent me straight into the swimming pool with a splash.
I felt all my strength vanish just from the thought that I had fallen in the damn pool in front of everyone, with my clothes on.
The cold water seeped through the fabric of my cotton dress, soaking it up entirely. Laughter roared in the air as the spectators enjoyably watched me struggling to stay afloat. Most of the onlookers were busy taking photos of me with their phones.
Humiliation devoured me.
I felt like drowning myself in the pool. Maybe then, the embarrassment would be drowned along with my corpse.
I held my breath to help me last a minute as I calculated how to show up in front of everyone soaked to the bone.
Suddenly, someone jumped into the pool and grabbed my drenched body and yanked me out of the water as I battled to free myself from his grasp.
"Damn, play the music, it's just miss clumsy." A girl yelled-ordered and in a swish, the music was back on and everyone started walking away except for my saviour.
I turned to him and my mouth dropped. He was the same boy from the stream and still the boy who appeared while I was fighting with the crazy drunkard boy a few minutes ago. I couldn't forget how his wet hair had clung to his forehead in the stream just as it did at the moment.
But even though his hair hid his face, I got to see his cerulean eyes which shimmered under the flickering of the neon lights as he stared down at me.
"Now, you were drowning." He smirked then pushed his cap down hiding his face once more.
I was about to talk when Sydney appeared behind him. Her face held a look of surprise which swiftly vanished.
"You need a change of clothes," she addressed my mysterious saviour.
He waved his hand off and then turned back to me as if anticipating my speech.
I could have thanked him but he looked like he was about to laugh at me. So, I just decided to follow Sydney and overlook his act of goodness.
"You are welcome." He whispered in my ear as I walked by next to him, and I didn't miss the sarcasm in his voice but I ignored him.
We had just stepped into the entrance of the house when a girl jumped on us while screaming. She held a sharp shard of a whiskey bottle.
It was so sudden that I didn't understand what was happening until I saw Sydney lying on the tiled floor, blood oozing from her assaulted area, and I had fallen ass flat beside her, as people approached the scene.
"I will kill you!" Those were the girl's words that she uttered as she got dragged out of the place.
Brenda G ________ Silence floated in the room. Sydney had finally managed to grab some sleep after getting her first aid on the painful cut she received. Her birthday had turned into her worst nightmare after receiving a deep cut on her forehead. The cut resulted from a glass bottle which was smashed on her head by her sister, Harriet. The reason for the attack was that Sydney was getting so close to Harriet's boyfriend, a drama that I didn't gather so many details on. With the help of Sydney's friends, we took care of the situation and we let her take a rest. Upon glancing at my phone watch, my eyes nearly bulged from shock. It was fifteen minutes to midnight. "If Midnight finds you out, just find a place to stay!" My mother's words danced in my head. "I think her nanny will take care of the rest, we should be heading home," Cara, one of Sydney's friends whispered. She read my mind. She was slightly shorter, probably 5'0 in height. She had dirty blonde hair which was profes
Brenda G_______Monday found me in a new school. That morning as soon as I walked into the noisy classroom, silence reigned in the room. Not even a single sound could be heard again, except maybe the noise made by my nervous breaths. The whole class had turned to face me and I felt like I was some Alien inventing the world.Maybe they were staring at my attire. I knew that I shouldn't have put on a ridiculous pair of shorts, it literally made my hips and butt look shrunken."Brenda, just take a deep breath and walk over to any empty desk."I mentally calmed myself and strolled nervously to a desk that unfortunately was somewhere at the back of the classroom. I could feel their gazes burning through various parts of my body. Some were on my face, others on my chest which was packed by the way, and most of the gazes were fixated on my behinds. Especially the boy's gazes. It was one of those moments when I wished that I didn't have a small butt. What were they thinking when they saw how
Brenda G____ I knew there was a mistake with my existence, and that was well confirmed by the current situation I was in.I was schooling in the same college with Royal people?I was so stupid not to recognize the princess who sat next to me in that class. No, I was dumb enough not to recognise Prince Jake William all this time. Who doesn't know him?But I never liked him even before we moved to Britain, I only used to see his photos on my Denmark friend's phone, because she was obsessed with him.I was fucked for real.Dulcie, I mean Princess Dulcie, was my deskmate. Okay, Prince Jake William, the son to the next in line after Queen Eleanor, meaning he was the next in line after his father, and I slapped him. No!That afternoon I was heading home from school after a long day that made me want to run away. I needed to talk to my parents since there seemed to be something amiss with me being in an international college that the Royal family attended. As I was approaching the bus stop
Jake William____ "I love you." My girlfriend, Harriet whispered. Her slim face was cupped in my large hands and our foreheads were in contact. Her strawberry cologne engulfed my nasal cavity as my lips found hers.Roughly, my lips explored her needy ones as she tugged onto the locks of hair at the base of my neck. Her back was pressed on the locker and her curvy body caged by my own. Her perky breasts collided with my toned chest as we made out, savagely."Tell me it will never happen again" I whispered as I gazed down at her, I loved her and all I wanted from her was to stay out of trouble, or else the media was gonna publish every single thing she does. I had to do everything to keep her out of social media because everything she did was monitored by the paparazzi."Never." She breathlessly declared moments after we broke off from another kiss. Her big eyes stared into mine and a smile curved at her cherry red lips.Harriet and I had been dating for a while now. Despite everyone k
Brenda G____ "Hey?" Princess Dulcie called me before I dashed out of the class. The literature class was over and I wanted to be the first to leave before the prince coward could plan to ambush me for slapping him. "Do you wanna join us at our table for lunch?" She genuinely asked."Oh…" I looked around briefly. Everyone was getting ready to go for lunch, including the Prince who was always seated on a seat directly across from our desk. "...I had plans with someone else." I returned the politeness. She nodded, "that's okay then. See you in our last class." She smiled and I returned it.Dulcie was sweet and calm. She had been making efforts to be friends with me but her being a royal princess and a cousin to prince coward, felt wrong. I felt like I needed to keep a safe distance."Sure," I mumbled, then fixed my backpack on my shoulder and decided to leave. My life had turned into a living hell. No joy came with it. I kept thinking about mum and Lance, and how they easily ruined me.
Brenda G___ The day expired without another hullabaloo in school. I would have been joyful about it but then I was back home. The living hell. I knew that I needed to get used to the harsh reality. No matter how difficult it seemed.I wished I could run away from everything, maybe to an island where I would be alone. Seeing mum around was reminding me that I was a pathetic daughter to her. It wounded me every second. The lesion was fresh, one that uncertainly would heal.I was woken from my peaceful nap by the sound of a car engine going off. I knew my parents had just arrived from work, or wherever they were because I couldn't understand them anymore.I was lying on my stomach. It was how I loved to sleep, even as a kid. It was also an easy way to sleep with shoes on. I hadn't done anything since I arrived from school. My limbs felt like a sledgehammer had whacked them because they were throbbing in affliction.Propping my elbows on the bed, I felt something cold underneath the cov
Brenda G____ I fished a calculus book from my locker then waddled to the classroom. I had arrived at school ten minutes earlier because of the beautiful fact that the apartment I resided in was located a few blocks from the school.Lucky me, indeed.I dug my hand into my denim high-waist pants' pocket and extracted my phone. I swiftly typed a text to Sydney. We have been getting close lately.Me: Hae girl, where are you? After a few seconds, she responded.Syd: Hi, Bree, I passed by the clinic to check up on the wound, I'll be there in a few minutes.Me: Alright. I hope 'the witch' didn't cast her evil spell on you again.Syd: Lol no, she didn't. She left home a little early today, I don't know what's on her sleeves. Just be careful.Me: I will. But I won't hold it if she crosses the wrong side.Syd and I continued texting as I giggled at most of the nasty things she said about the evil witch, Harriet. I learned that their relationship as sisters wasn't good.Syd: Okay, I'm coming i
Jake William_____ "Good afternoon class?" Miss Ken, our Talent and Skills professor, greeted us.She was the only young professor in the college. She was gaunt, with sunken cheeks and protruded cheekbones, her melanoid hair was always resting on her small back. Judging by her leanness, one could tell that eating was the least of her priorities. She strolled back and forth in front of the classroom while waving her slim hand to the tune of the music that we were currently singing. Angelic voices wafted in the air as the song rose and fell.I noticed that everyone was singing except Harriet, my girlfriend. She was chewing on a piece of strawberry gum while constantly throwing evil glances at Brenda who was seated at a distance from us.She was annoyed by Brenda like I was, but I had a reason, what was Harriet's reason to hate Brenda? The question rang in my head as I witnessed the devilish looks that Harriet was showering on Brenda. We were seated in three rows. Row A, B and C. Harriet
Brenda GSomething is wrong.I reached out to the glass of water beside the meal I had been busy pretending to be eating. Something in the food was not going well with my stomach. I could feel a gush of nausea churning down in my belly.I drank some water that pushed it down. I needed to focus and not ruin my composure at a royal dinner where everyone was busy enjoying the meal. I was the eye of the dinner, everyone kept glimpsing at me as though trying to see what I had to attract a royal prince.Beside me, Jake was busy devouring his meal, his one hand was gently rubbing my thigh while he used the free one to eat. I felt secure with him, he managed to ease my nerves ever since we arrived.Everyone was nice, I met Jake's mother who was average in height, beautiful, and always with a smile on her lips. The moment we arrived, she took me from Jake and toured me around the palace as she introduced me to other royal family members. Her husband was a straightforward person, I saw Jake in
Brenda GThe cold morning breeze nipped my skin, triggering goosebumps that swam all over my exposed flesh. I drew the shawl against my semi-naked body, in an attempt to generate some heat and hopefully snuff out the cold. The golden specks of the rising sun bathed my skin, replacing the cold with warmth. A smile curved on my lips as I watched the yellow ball of energy emerge beyond the horizon, splashing its rays on the azure ocean waters. It was the most magnificent view.We arrived at a beach house which was one of Jake's private properties. He mentioned it would be a good idea to lay low for a while together with my father and I agreed.Fresh morning air seeped through my nose, gushing into my lungs as I took a deep breath. Melodious chirps of birds and insects caressed my ears, soothing my soul. For a moment I was able to forget about the painful truth. That I was an adopted child whose biological mother died at childbirth and whose father was unknown. Did my father even know abo
Brenda GSeeing my dad again, after so many months, was the most joyous feeling for me. I couldn't stop hugging and sobbing on his shoulder as he soothed me lovingly in his arms."Dad-I am so sorry. It's because of me that you had to go through so much pain and torment." I cupped his bandaged face in my palms as tears cascaded down my cheeks."None of this is your fault. Lance and Melissa are to blame." He replied. "I should have never trusted that woman." Regret filled his eyes. "A woman as horrible as her deserves to be punished for her wrongs. Your mother entrusted her with you-" He paused after realising that he had blurted something."Is there something you're not telling me?" I dug for answers."No child, I don't want you to find out the truth this way-" He avoided eye contact."What truth? Please tell me, dad." A plea left my mouth."Brenda, it's the truth about your real mother." He spoke."Real mother? Isn't Melissa my mother?" I stuttered."No, she's not. Brenda, you are our
Jake William"Take cover!" I spun Brenda around and then rushed with her to a hidden corner, somewhere in the room, the others followed."Finally! I thought that you'd never arrive." Harriet declared as the guards untied her and Melisa. "Kill them all!" Harriet barked as she and Melissa ran off. . It was an open fire as Lance's goons shot at us and we attempted to shield ourselves with furniture."They are too many, what do we do?" Emilio shot a question at me."We need to team up and fight them off." I prompted."No, Jake, it's dangerous." Brenda protested. "We don't have enough weapons to fight them off." She added."We can't hide here knowing they are approaching us," I whispered as I checked the bullets remaining in the gun.Death was lurking in the dimly lit room like a shadow waiting to devour each and every one of us. Lance's men were turning the place inside out, trying to find us. "Come
Jake WilliamI knew saving Brenda's dad would be hard but I never inferred that it would be challenging. We had everything planned out. Things were falling into place. Thanks to Adrian, we had Brenda's dad's location. I sent the coordinates to the agents, informing them of the retrieval. It was a delicate mission. It's why I deployed skilled agents to perform the task. I was certain that It would work-that they would find Mr. Hammond and save him. To my disappointment, Lance was a step ahead of us. He managed to outsmart us.His new plan was about my royalty status. He planned to get me involved in a scandal all over the media.I was not gonna give up though, I had to fight for Brenda and her friends.I was busy plotting a plan as Lance's men dragged us towards our doom. There were five men in total and all of them were armed. Even if I attacked, I couldn't manage to eliminate all five of them."Hey, I need to go to the bath
Brenda G"It's me." The voice which was none other than Adrian's spoke. I could feel the coldness of his rings pressing the flesh of my mouth. "Come with me." He took my hand and led me to the unknown."Where are we going, Adrian?" Curiosity got the better of me."To your friends." He replied. "They asked me to fetch you." He added.A door was pushed open, to reveal a dimly lit room, "Where is this place?" I shot a question at him as soon as I walked in."It's an old guest room, no one comes here anymore." He replied."Where are they?" My eyes were scanning the place but couldn't spot anyone."Patience." I watched as he typed some numbers on a keypad that was engraved on a wall. A door creaked open -revealing a secret room."After you." He paved the way for me and I waltzed into a study room. Jake, Gena and Emilio were conversing when we walked in."Bree." Gena excitedly stated upon seeing me.
Brenda GHis question struck my ears like a bomb, leaving me paralyzed with shock. No words could come out of my mouth as I stared at the man who was on his knee with an expectant look in his eyes. My heart stilled in its cage, unable to beat. The temperature of my body dropped, triggering shivers that crawled down my spine. A mixture of emotions coursed through my being, shock being the main feeling. Why did he propose tonight? Wasn't the engagement supposed to be after a week?Questions swam through my brain, triggering confusion that ate at me mercilessly.Did he do this on purpose? To trap me? Does he perhaps know about my plan to ruin him?I couldn't find the answers to questions that were burrowing through my brain."Will you marry me?" He repeated the question while gazing into my stupefied eyes. I couldn't bring myself to say, yes. Not when I was so close to winning, so close to rescuing my dad. Not whe
Brenda GThe event was getting boring and Lance was busy with his guests. He had some guests he valued too much that he ended up letting me slip out of his arms. Which was good because I was free to at least go and breathe. My gaze settled on Jake, Gena and Emilio who were conversing among themselves. "Excuse me," I said to one of the guests whom I was talking to and made my way to the three. "Hey." They shifted their attention to me."Bree." Gena gazed at me."Can we go somewhere more private?" I proposed. The four of us scurried to an isolated kitchen away from the party."I am nervous, is everything set?" I inquired while gazing at the three."Yes. Everything is set. All that is remaining is to get a call but our plan B is still on move. " Emilio explained. "By the end of the night, we will know your father's location."Jake took my hands in his and then gave them an assuring squeeze. "I have my team of
Brenda G"My love, you look gorgeous." His warm breath scorched my cheek as he whispered the words to me. My stomach flipped with disgust at his words, brewing nausea which threatened to rip my gut apart. The feel of his lips on my cheek triggered goosebumps of antipathy which swam all over my skin. His very presence, touch, scent drove me to the peaks of dyspathy. I desiderated to tear his hand from my waist and erase his touch from my skin because everything about him ailed me to the core."Thank you, my love." The words scorched my throat like acid as they erupted from my mouth. A smile made its way to my lips as I glanced at his form. He was clad in a black six-piece suit that hugged his rotund frame, accentuating his potbelly. Grey hairs matted his chin -an indication of his ripe age. His pair of silvery irises, interlocked with mine for a moment. An icy sensation crawled down my spine as his eyes stared into mine. It felt like he was trying to u
