HAYLEY’s POV

“You are a fucking thief, Hayley and I should have known when I gave you this job.”

“You are fired, Hayley… I do not ever want to see you anywhere near my property.”

“You are good for nothing… very useless and on top that, a thief”

I took another swing of the bottle in my hand, my head buzzing with unsettled thoughts and the crippling fear that I was a twenty five years old jobless woman in New York.

I giggled at the thought, my eyes blurring as I took another swing of the beer. My throat burned and my eyes watered as the beer hit my tongue, traveling down to my stomach but I did not care… it was nothing compared to my shitty life.

Chester had been right about one thing when he broke up with me via letter, never minding that he had left me in crippling debt.He had said there was nothing I was good for and he had been right.

Here I was in the middle of a dingy bar and cradling a beer while I thought about how I wasn’t going to starve for the next couple of days until I got another fucked up job.

“You look like you need some company, little girl. What are you doing here all by yourself?” A voice said from behind me

I made no move to respond nor address the man until I felt a hand on my arm.

“Do not fucking touch me?” I snapped, shifting away and nearly stumbling.

“Now, now, do not be rude. I want to be friends, baby girl and you look like you need a shoulder to cry on” the man breathed down my neck, crowding my space.

My panicky eyes darted around the bar while I tried to avoid the horrible stench of his mouth. I did not think anyone had noticed our tussle and even if they had, I was sure it happened all the time in these places.

“I do not need a friend, please go away” I muttered more to myself than to the man.

He lunged forward, grabbing my arm again while I yelped in disgust and backed further away.

I tripped then, my eyes widening in the realization that I was about to be on my butt in this stinky crowded bar atop of everything else.

This has been the most shitty day

A strong arm wrapped around my waist, steadying me while I grabbed thin air. The first thing I noticed about this stranger was his scent… he smelled like roses.

Why would a man smell like roses? I thought to myself even as I let him continue holding me.

“The lady has asked you to back away” The deep rumble of his voice sent goosebumps down my spine.

“Is she yours?” The drunk in front of me asked.

“She is mine” The man announced.

I gasped at this, my breath hitching in my throat at his words.

The drunk man scoffed, turning away from us.

I sighed in relief, stepping forward and almost stumbling again.

“Watch it! So fucking clumsy” The man snapped, still holding unto my waist.

“Thank you for the…” I said, turning around.

The rest of my words died on my lips as my eyes met his. He was staring at him with lips pursued, waiting but there was nothing I could have said that would not come out as a squeak.

“Well?” He prompted

“Help” I squeaked

“I am Christian” He declared, putting out a hand.

“Hayley” I muttered, almost screaming when my hands touched his.

“Hayley” He echoed as if to sample the feel of my name on his tongue.

“Well, Hayley… I don’t know what you are doing here all alone but…”

“Are you with someone?” I blurted

Why had I said that? Blame it on the beer, I thought.

“I am sorry, I should not have… it is none of my bu…”

“I am not with anyone but I am a big, strong man and cannot be harassed” He interrupted

“Yes” I sighed dreamily. “I mean, you are right and I should not have come here alone”

My cheeks colored when he arched one perfectly carved eyebrow and I realized we were still holding hands.

“I will take you home”

“There is no need for that. Thank you for saving me, Christian but I will be fine on my own” I told him, retrieving my hand from his.

I grabbed my purse, still conscious of his eyes on the side of my face, searing me.

He still had his eyes on me by the time I turned and I smiled slightly in his direction, lunging for the door because I suddenly wanted to get away before I kissed the damned man.

The cold breeze of the outdoors hit me in the face, sobering me up instantly. It was dark but I could still get a cab and if not then maybe walking would do a lot of good.

I saw the light from a car approaching me and put my hand out until the man stopped in front of me.

“Seacreek?” I told him.

“Hop in”

I opened the car door, screaming for the second time that night when a hand touched my arm.

“Stop” Christian swore.

“What the fuck? You scared me… I thought I was about to be mugged for Christ sake”

“You are easily scared” He challenged

“That is not true” I protested. “You do not come up to someone from behind and expect to get a receptive welcome and it is late at night” I argued.

“Fine, I am sorry but we have to talk” He told me, signaling in the direction of the cab man.

The driver took the hint and drove away while I sighed in frustration.

“What is there for us to talk about, Christian” I asked.

“Hayley…”

“Before you begin, I do not hookup with random men or strangers and if that is what you are about then the answer will be no” I interrupted.

He stared at me like I had lost my mind before he laughed, curling my toes in my shoes.

“It is nothing like that, Hayley.” He reassured me. “I just… I think I can help you”

“What makes you think I need your help?” I questioned, insulted and exposed.

“You look like you are in need of saving” He paused, smiling to cushion the effect of his words. “You do not meet a beautiful girl such as yourself, drinking beer at a bar in the middle of the night if she does not have problems weighing her down and I kind of have a tiny problem of my own. We can help each other if you would listen to me”

“How?” I asked, genuinely curious.

I knew I should have told him off in that moment but something about how he had said he wanted to save me made me believe him.

Do not get me wrong, he looked exactly like the kind of person your mother must have warned you to run away from but in that moment, I did not think I had much of a choice.

“I want you to marry me” He announced, matter of fact.

HAYLEY’S POV I figured with each painful and frustrating day spent living in this personal hell that is my life, I realized that God has favorites. Chester almost humiliated me at the club last night. I also drew the attention of a stranger, who never seemed to leave me alone. Since the first day we met, he could pick up on the fact that I was needy and broke. Is that how everyone sees me? a total fuckup? I eventually got to see my mom at the hospital yesterday; I couldn’t even pay her clinic bills. I felt so ashamed. I couldn’t look her in the eye, but I felt her pity. I couldn’t do this anymore; I couldn’t keep depending on Kitty and Darren to survive or let myself down. So I took his advice, the handsome, judgy stalker. Christian Montgomery, CEO of Montgomery Enterprise Holdings I could almost swear that the name sounded too familiar, but then I just couldn’t quite get it. I don’t like problems; they piss me off.Even though I hate to admit that this is my entire fault, I should have known better than to fuck my secretary. What the hell was I thinking? It’s not even office romance; it’s more dom and sub.My thoughts briefly flickered back to Hayley, and I couldn’t help but marvel at her ability to catch me off guard. There was a raw innocence about her that intrigued me, a stark contrast to the polished women who typically surrounded me.But I don’t want her as a submissive anyway; pure innocence sometimes bores me."I’ll Marry you” My eyes widened in surprise, she agreed.I got up and walked towards where she stood, my body towering over her small figure. As I kept staring at Hayley, the door to my office swung open, revealing Cassidy’s entrance. "Take it off." He ordered he kept staring at me coldly. There was nothing about the way he looked at me that screamed sexual, he just enjoyed barking orders I guess. “But I like this outfit, this is what I want to wear Mr Montgomery.” I refused to budge, since when did he think he could tell me what to wear? “I can tell you what to wear since the moment you signed that agreement.” He ran his hands in his hair. “That was in the contract!?” My eyes bulged with shock, I didn’t see that part. How come I didn’t see it? Fuck! What have I done? “I guess you didn’t read it thoroughly, what if I wanted you to do….” He kept walking towards me and I moved back slightly till my back touched the mirror. He was now standing in front of me, I felt cornered. “Something immoral.” He whispered in my ears, I know I’ve only met him for like few hours and he’s like a total jerk, but there was something about him that made me shiver with seduction. CHAPTER NINE After Christian dropped the bombshell on the reporters, they still wanted more, but Christian seemed to be a man of suspense. He knew what he was doing; he had it all planned out. He just wanted to give the media a hint to further sell this lie; at least by tomorrow morning, the media would be going wild. I couldn’t believe my eyes as Christian and I walked into the business meeting gala. The lavishness of the venue made me short of breath. Everything looked so good, from the crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling to the walls adorned with artwork and the impeccably dressed guests, whose every move smelled like money and power. Never have I even dreamed of being somewhere like this. I guess busting your ass at a local bar for a long time won’t give you time to dream. Beside me, Christian appeared cold and distant. I’m not surprised he wasn’t as mind-blown as I was; he was born into this. "Wait here, I’ll check around for my parents." His hands brushed my arm sli

ONE WEEK LATERCHRISTIAN’S POV “Yes, Officer Gavin. I appreciate your efforts. Thank you.” I said, and the call dropped. I turned from the window and faced Hayley, who was lying down on the bed. We were both fully discharged from the hospital, and Khalid was still there. And I always made sure I checked on him every day. Hayley, on the other hand, still had to go to the hospital for her antenatal. Officer Gavin was telling me about Denver, and they caught him. He didn’t even hesitate to cooperate with the police; he sold Alexander out. The police were now looking for him, he and Alexander made the deal about putting the bomb under my car. And other news aside, the person who was trying to poison Bernard was a maid in the house. Her motives weren’t clear yet, but she was with the police now. I also heard that Cassidy fell to her death—not that I was being insensitive, but she deserved it. That would be the last time I would ever see Cassidy in my life, and I was thrilled, to be hon

CHRISTIAN’S POV My eyes fluttered open, and immediately I became conscious. Pain surged through my head. I raised my hand slowly to touch my head, and I realised there was a bandage on it. My body ached all through; it was like all the pain I hadn’t felt for the few moments I was asleep was all coming to me at once. The accident replayed vividly: Khalid, the screeching of metals, the flames licking at the car, and Khalid’s shriek of pain as the car engulfed in flames with his legs still trapped while his body was out of the car. Panic seized me as I scanned the unfamiliar surroundings I was in. I figured I was at the hospital; the curtains and the beeping sound of the heart monitor gave that away instantly. “Where’s Khalid, Khalid?" The words fell from my lips in a desperate plea, and my voice was hoarse from the terror that had gripped me in my sleep. The fear that my friend could be dead was the only true friend I ever had. And it would be my fault; I wouldn’t be able to forgive

But then Cassidy splashed me with another round of cold water. I opened my eyes and raised my head, gasping for breath.I shook my head to get the water out of my eye, and the sound of a stainless steel bucket falling on the floor drew my attention to Cassidy, who was standing right in front of me.“I told Christian, he has to meet me here by 1 p.m. Well, would you look at the time? And still no Christian.” She exhaled, almost disappointed.Christian was coming here? I almost felt a sense of relief, but then coming here was a trap. I exhaled heavily and raised my head to hear someone’s heels hurting the floor.I was sure that it was the person who abducted me. A petite lady with brown hair and blue eyes walked towards me with a bowl, and she smirked.“Re-Rebecca?” I mouthed as my eyes widened in disbelief. She used to be Christian’s secretary. Of course, she would want my head; Christian wasn’t paying her attention anymore. They weren’t having any of that good sex, and then he fired her.I could tell the minute I saw how he looked at her that day when I went to his office. I shouldn’t have told her to abort the baby; what stupid suggestion was that? And now that she had left home, I had no idea where she was. I couldn’t reach her; she was picking up my calls, and she still hadn’t come back home.Maybe she was right, and having a baby would change me. It would make my life in a different light. She wanted me to listen to her so badly. It wasn’t like she was forcing the baby on me; she understood even my own plight. She just wanted to talk, to figure out a solution, and I completely shut her down. It was like I was now making my own life more miserable than it already is.“She won’t pick up your calls, Christian." I turned to the sound of Riele’s voice; she was coming from the kitchen holding a glass of booze.“Thanks a lot for the help,” I replied sarcastically. She rolled her eyes.

Whether planned or unplanned, we had the resources to take care of it. But then I understood that Christian wasn’t ready because of what he was going through at the moment.“No, Christian. It’s true. I know we didn’t plan it, and I swear I was scared to tell you." He cut me off“How long have you known?” He dropped the whisky bottle on the bedside drawer and faced me, his back resting comfortably on the bed's headboard. The scenario looked like a teenage girl opening up to her father about her unwanted pregnancy."Yesterday, the doctor said I’m three weeks pregnant.
