CHAPTER TWO

Aiden’s POV

I adjusted my cufflinks, as I stared at myself in the mirror. Today is going to be a good day, I thought as I hummed a casual tune to myself.

Walking away from the floor to ceiling window in my dressing room, I grabbed my suitcase and made my way out of my room and down the stairs, to the dining room where my house help was standing as she supervised the people setting up my breakfast.

“Good morning sir," They all chorused when they saw me walk into the room, I shot them a smile and replied their greetings with mine as I made my way to the seat at the top of the dining table.

“Here's the newspaper for today sir. We made toast, waffles, pancakes and eggs. Your ginger tea is also here, what do you care for this morning?" My housekeeper asked me as she handed me the papers, the two maids had already left the room by then.

“Hmm, don't worry about it, I'll sort myself out, you can leave," I said, my hand as I opened the papers to read.

“Okay sir, I'll drop your suitcase in the car," I hummed as I adjusted myself, my eyes stuck on the picture of the woman that occupied the first page of the book. She's back.

I never thought that the picture I would be seeing on the first page of the papers for the day was that of Avery Morrison in the airport. The words ‘Billionaire heiress returns home after a failed marriage’ was captioned in bold red letters, just below the picture.

I read the article over and over and I almost got to work late because of it. I have a meeting with Hector Morrison tomorrow and the wheels in my head we're spinning wildly as I started to concoct things that I could do with the information on the article and how it could help me put Morrison at a disadvantage.

I had already known what to do before I arrived at the office. I quickly made a call to my personal investigator and asked him to get me information about Theo Fletcher, Avery Morrison’s ex-husband, and his mistress. I knew that all these things had to be connected to Hector, I just had to find out how they were connected to him.

After a long day at work, I went home to rest and wait for the results of the information that I was expecting from my PI. I received all the information around eleven pm in the night, just as I was getting ready to go to bed.

I quickly read through all the information that was sent and I smirked at the information that I had gotten. Hector would be scared shitless by this. I'd make him think that he had an upper hand and break his wings little by little with all the information I've been gathering on him.

I woke up the next morning, with a huge smile on my face as I breezed through my morning routine, deciding not to go for my morning run. I couldn't wait to meet up with Hector and to see his defeated expression when I started to execute my plan.

I got to the office earlier than I usually do because I skipped both my morning run and breakfast even though my meeting with Hector wasn't until noon. I wanted to prepare myself before he arrived for the meeting.

A few minutes past noon, my Telecom rang and I was informed that Hector Morrison had arrived and was waiting for me at the conference room. I took my time getting to the conference room.

I walked into the conference room to see Hector already seated at the top of the table, where I was supposed to be seated at today's meeting, like a King. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at his blatant display of dominance. It felt comical because I knew that I had the upper hand in today's meeting.

“Good afternoon Mr Morrison,” I greeted with a cold smile. Usually I don't show any expression to strangers but I address people with polite smiles at best.

"Good afternoon Mr Backwoods, I'd like to get straight to the point. I am here to propose a merger that would benefit our companies," He said, nodding at me as I sat down on the left seat beside him.

"Oh? This sounds interesting, I'd like to know more about this merger and why you think I'd be interested in merging our companies in the first place," I replied, relaxing my back on the seat and grabbing a Rubik's cube that was laid on the table to solve.

"As we know that the *** and *** industries are thriving right now, I think we both know how good it would be for both companies to be merged. Besides, I'm offering a generous share of the profits we'll make from this partnership," He replied, eyeing me with a smug smile playing on his lips.

The merging of both our companies would indeed benefit both of us more than it would with anyone else because of how connected our industries were, but him talking about offering me a generous share of profit without actually mentioning the ratio almost made me cackle loudly.

"A generous share, huh? Pray tell me what amount of shares we're talking about?" I asked immediately, and I saw a cunning glint flash in his eyes, my hands solving the cube at a fast pace.

"I'm offering you 40% of the profits from the partnership Mr Backwoods, we both know that my company earns more than you and I have a better standing. I'll earn most of these profits we're about to share, I think it's only fair that I possess the larger share don't you think?" He rambled on and on about how he should own more profits than I should.

"Hmm, since we're talking about fairness Mr Morrison, how about we discuss your private... dealings?" I asked, finally deciding to let the cat out of the bag.

"What are you talking about, Mr Backwoods?" He said, adjusting himself in his seat as he leaned on the table slightly.

"I'm talking about your son-in-law, or should I say ex-son-in-law? I know how you paid off his assistant to get him intoxicated, with the plans of getting her pregnant for him. Was this to break up their marriage so that you can have control over Avery once again? I mean, she's been locked in ever since she stepped into your house, pray tell me why that is?" I said, smirking at his pale face that was as white as a piece of paper.

"You... How did you know all these?!" He practically yelled at me, the veins on his head throbbing slightly.

"You're not even going to try to play dumb, Mr Morrison?" I asked, throwing my head back with a loud laugh, but he didn't reply to me. He just looked at me like he was planning on how he was going to murder me, too bad the feelings were mutual.

I set down the solved cube, as I continued talking, ignoring his lack of response to me, "So here's what we're going to do Mr Morrison, you'd sign the deal to this partnership and I want 65% control over everything. If you agree to these terms, I think you should also start planning my marriage to your daughter. If you think that you can play smart with me, I have enough evidence of your tax evasion and some other evidence you might not like to be leaked to the public like you did with your daughter's divorce."
