Seth:

The warrior is now shifted while I begin to shift as well, while I thank the Goddess for being a quick shifter.

I want to laugh at his small snarls, his teeth bared, and saliva dripping from his mouth like he was any threat to me.

I'm shifted into our wolf in no time, standing at least two feet taller than the warrior.

The warrior backs up in recognition, letting a small whimper escape as he does this.

I was significantly bigger and taller than him for two reasons.

1. I was a beta by rank and held my position and the strength of the pack from being sworn in already.

2. My mom was Alpha born with two Alpha parents. She moved to this pack to be with my Dad.

These are things that Lucy didn't know about me.

She had set me up for a win far better than she realized.

"You little brat! You didn't tell me he was ranked!" I can hear Kragen, but I'm focused on my surroundings.

Much to my surprise, the warrior lunges at me with all of his strength.

As he started to lung, I quickly lowered m

Tricia:We decided to leave the warriors behind so we could speak more freely.Leon was driving, his hands gripping the wheel as if his life depended on it."You should probably take care of Savina before Lucy melts her face off," I say, trying to lighten up the mood. Also, it was the truth. Lucy nearly combusted at the mere thought of Leon being anywhere near Savina.I can't imagine how she would react if she knew Savina was acting possessive over him.Leon laughs, much to my relief."I know. Actually, I'm scared of Lucy's reaction, but um... you seem really confident that we will see her again and get her back okay. Did you, by chance, get a vision?" He glances over at me briefly before looking back at the road.No way in hell am I telling him the vision I saw. This was the first time I saw him somewhat pieced back together."No, I didn't get a vision, but I know we will get her back. She is my Queen Leon. You realize that, yes?" I ask, shifting to the side in my seat so I can look

Lucy:"Try anything funny, and I won't hesitate to kill you both. I can find answers elsewhere if I need to." Those were the last words my Dad said before we were blindfolded. He meant them. They shoved us in the back of a van or SUV. I can't be sure. They didn't tie our hands up, but we were blindfolded. I could feel the body heat of two guards in front of us in the back of the vehicle.'Tell him we will be okay,' I tell Nia.I know that Seth didn't feel great about leaving us. If he could, he would reprimand me for making such a bold decision on his behalf, but I had to do it.I'd never live with myself if I didn't take the chance to save him when I knew I could.I'd prefer to be able to speak directly to Seth, but we have prying ears, and we can't mind link Seth.'We could if we marked him,' Nia says. She is so damn inappropriate, and there's no way I'm telling her that her comment gave me small butterflies.'Seth says we're stronger than we realize, but he will be back to get us..

Liam:"Is he breathing?" I ask, running up behind Tricia."Barely," Leon rasps."Where did you find him?" I ask.Several soldiers are helping to lift Seth's body onto the gurney and take him out of the ballroom."Dr. Solfere said to bring him to the hospital directly but to be careful not to move him too much," Dad said; I'm assuming he had mind-linked him.One of the perks of being the Alpha over the pack was that you could mind-link anyone in the pack.Leon and I were lucky to have the bond we did; we could still link with each other, just not everyone else yet."He was in the woods," Leon says, vaguely explaining where or how he found Seth.He had been gone for hours, so there was no way of knowing with that description."How can I help?" Saul says, suddenly emerging from behind me and Tricia.I watch as Tricia turns and glares at him."Gamma Saul, I think we can take it from here. Please go let your father know we have Seth," my Dad says.Saul stares down at Tricia, but she is now

Lucy:'Wake up!' Nia screams. Her voice rings through my ears like a siren, but my eyes are too heavy.'Just ten more minutes,' I groan back at her.'Someone is coming. You need to wake up,' she hisses, reminding me I'm not home anymore."How much did you dose her with?! Kragen is going to be furious if she doesn't wake up soon!" I hear a voice.Well, I'm still alive, I think to myself, trying to shift or move at any capacity. The ground is cold and hard. I'm back in the cell I was in earlier. It's daylight now, so it must be at least the very next day.I don't remember the drive back here, so they did something to knock me out.Oh, my Goddess Seth.I force my eyes open, standing up to look into his cell. He isn't there. My heart is racing a hundred miles an hour. The last thing I remembered was the painful howl."Where is he? Did he kill him!?" I demand. The two warriors walk up to my cell with the same stupid smirks on their faces."About damn time!" one of them hisses while the ot

Leon:I lied to Tricia and said I would be attending the gala, so she didn't try to convince me not to go after Kragen or follow me.I had run for two hours, maybe more, when I heard the commotion.Seth had killed four other wolves and was losing against the last one until I stepped in. The wolf got a few good nips at me, but I'm mostly fine."You need to shift so I can carry you back on my back," I tell him.He collapses in his wolf form and slowly transitions back.My heart is beating a thousand miles an hour. Relief is also flooding through me that he is alive. We searched these woods for days, so why is he here now?I laid down next to him after shifting back into my wolf form.It pained me to watch him use every bit of energy he had left to roll over onto my back, but I knew he needed medical attention as soon as possible, and this was the only way for me to get him back to the pack grounds quickly.I ran faster than I ever have. After leaving him at the hospital, it took everyth

Lucy:'I'm sorry, Lucy,' Nia says.'No, you're not,' I say.She doesn't respond because it's the truth, but right now, it's not the time to have this conversation. Also, she knew exactly what she was doing, and thankfully, it worked."You need to run," I hear a familiar voice behind me. I turn to see the confused warrior from before. I look behind him at the door to the room I was once inside of.It's open. He moves back to the door, closes it, and locks the outside. He bows his head and smiles at me."Alpha, you need to hurry," he encourages. I tilt my head, surprised."We can go this way," my mate says, motioning towards the hallway he just came from."GET HER!" I hear my Dad yell.I look to my left and down the hallway, where he is standing at the end.The same hallway across from the dungeon.I smirked as I turned to him.'Let's just go, Lucy,' Nia encourages, but fire is burning through my entire soul now.'One last detour, Nia,' I say. It's calling to me now. He is from my old pack," I whisper, peaking my head around his muscular frame when Leon puts his hand over my face to shield me from looking at the nude stranger.Nia giggles from this reaction."What's your name?" Leon asks him."Oliver," he responds softly."Okay, Oliver. Follow the rest. Stay with Liam until I find you," Leon says firmly. He trusted me so easily that it warmed my heart. As soon as Oliver ran off, Leon turned to me and pulled me up into his arms. This was not the way I thought I'd be naked together with him in this way, but I didn't care.I was so relieved to see him. I wrapped my legs and arms around him as his lips crashed onto mine. His lips were needy and hungry but not as much as his tongue that slid in my mouth, battling against mine.By the time we came up for air, I was somehow even more exhausted. One of his hands is gripping my hair on the back of my head. Leon:I could sense something different about Lucy, but I wasn't able to put my finger on it.I got up after her and grabbed her wrist before she could run out the door."Don't touch me!" she screams before she turns around.I fly at least six feet back, landing on my butt next to my Dad's desk."Oh no! Leon, I'm sorry!" she comes rushing over to me, tears instantly welling in her eyes with regret. Her hair is wild. Her normal long black silky locks are crumpled and matted all over. Her icy blue eyes look lighter somehow.I grab her by the chin and lean forward, pressing my lips against hers."Well, that's new, huh?" I say, trying to lighten the mood. The atmosphere in the room is charged with tension as everyone's eyes are on Lucy. Are they afraid of her? I wondered to myself. LUCY:As I was thinking about what I had said to Liam at the waterfall, I realized that the truth had only become apparent to me after I said it out loud. This acknowledgment started to make me nervous.Tricia is fidgeting nervously next to Sybil. "Sybil, you didn't answer Lucy's previous question. Who do we say our truths to?" Trish pipes us again before Sybil can answer my second question. We were both eager to understand the rituals of this pack.I know I need to get Tricia alone so we can talk; something is definitely up with her.Tricia is looking at Sybil with desperate eyes, waiting for her to answer her question."There is no science to it all, sweetie," Sybil responds, making Tricia's face fall. She was clearly uncomfortable with the idea of sharing secrets, and I couldn't blame her; I had felt that way for so many years."It's like magic, really. It was how I was able to open my heart fully to Leander," Sybil says, in a dream-like state. She looks off into space for a whil

LUCY:"What was that about in the dungeon? You seemed scared after we left," Trish asks as we head back to the packhouse.I wasn't sure how to explain to her what I saw, so I shrugged it off. "Mom calls it Dragon Eyes," Trish responds at random.I stop in my tracks and look at her. What is she referring to? The way my eyes shift?"Your mom could never do that, or at least I had never seen her do it. I was curious, and when I mentioned it to my mom, she said it's been many years since a Fae was gifted with that kind of magic," Trish smiles, looping her arm through mine as we continue walking. We were walking back from visiting the hospital. The girls were in high spirits. They loved the clothes that Liam had picked out. He really had the best taste. I was glad he was there to finish up their shopping because it really wasn't my thing.Tricia was excited about their marks but hadn't said much, which didn't surprise me as the girls were present, and Trish was very kept to herself abou

LUCY:As we get to the dungeon doors, I can't help but smile once again.I look up at the guards, who, based on their expressions, know exactly who I am now. It's not their fault they dragged me here at one point. They were only following orders.Once they bow their heads at me, the bratty waitress finally realizes I'm behind her."Ugh! You!" Fern rolls her eyes at me before turning around to face the guards again."Why can't she have visitors!?" she screams at the guards, who look at me for help."You'll see her tomorrow, Fern," I say calmly.I had no idea why my magic was in a key, but once it was within me, I felt just a little bit more at home. A strength had settled in me that felt like it was always mine.It was familiar, and I welcomed it."She isn't Luna yet. She doesn't get special privileges," Fern says, glaring back at me."If Alpha doesn't want visitors, then I suggest you listen," I respond. She doesn't hear a word I say. TRICIA: [Days Prior - Part 2]I've been walking around, following my mom as she grabs items she wants to take.I'm trying to be helpful, but she is being meticulous with everything she wants to bring. She sets a stack of books on the table and finally makes eye contact with me again after I had pressed her about the Aphirages. I place my hands on her shoulders, searching her face for answers."Mom, I have never questioned anything you've asked me to do or say. Why won't you explain what the deal is with the Aphirages?" I say, continuing to push her into giving me answers. She's never been protective of something the way that she is with the flowers; aside from a book, she's never let me get anywhere near it.Even as a sneaky child, she always somehow knew when I was trying to break into the lock that held it shut."I also have other questions, such as why you said Seth would certainly change the course of events for Lucy!" I added, feeling as frustrated as ever. She looked around the

It was clear that these meetings were typically much more productive.Leander looked somewhat defeated and didn't hold much eye contact with me during the process of everyone leaving."Alpha, I'm sorry for causing such a scene," I say as Leon holds me from behind.Liam is being nosey, rummaging through the box, trying to figure out what's mine.I can feel it in my heart each time he grabs it or touches it."What have I told you about formalities, Lucy?" he smiles at me before grabbing me from Leon's grip and hugging me.The hug didn't last long before Leon grabbed me back and pulled me to my seat, which he decided would be his lap."Alpha lineages typically have a gift. TRICIA: [Days prior]I snuck through the secret passageway my people had made hundreds of years ago to prepare for the transition. That's what they called it: the transition. To me, it was the separation of myself from my heritage. We were like prisoners of our truth and power. Hiding among the werewolf communities as simple shifters.Being at the Cresent Moon Pack felt like removing the bars to the cell that my mom had kept me in.I know she had only been trying to protect me my whole life while we worked to guide Lucy the best we could."Trish! What are you doing here?!" My mom's voice comes from her room as I enter the house."Mom! Things changed. The visions we had discussed are not all aligning as we hoped," I explain to her as she rushes to hug me.I look around our comfortable little home—the home I was raised in on the edge of the Silver Moon Pack. The majority of our neighboring cabins were also Fae. All of us are waiting to live free again."Sit, child, let me get you someth

LUCY:I'm not trying to be disrespectful. My questions were genuine even though everyone in the room looks like they disagree; except for Seth who holds the same smirk throughout my questioning. It's clear that I haven't been raised to believe in the process they're used to and clearly respectI wasn't taught the way everyone was in this room. No one want's to answer my question or make it seem as if they agree with where I'm headed in this conversation."Let me guess. The first son of each member takes their father's spot?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.Leander sighs. He doesn't like my line of questioning, either.Maybe I was bitter for Kragen rejecting me simply because I was a girl or maybe it's because what is taught as normal to them, never felt normal to me."Are you questioning the order of things, Lucy? It's no different than the first born of an Alpha taking over the pack. This is how we've done it for thousands of years. It has always worked," Leander says, with a half frown,

I knew you'd insist on coming with me, but I couldn't wait any longer," she responds, justifying her off-behavior. "I'll meet you at the conference room," Liam announces before kissing the top of my head and taking off with all the bags.I wondered if Seth would be there, which made me feel guilty. He was the Beta, so surely he would be there. It wasn't a terrible thing that I wondered, right? I think to myself, realizing I'm chewing the crap out of my nail.'You know what I keep saying,' Nia giggles.'Shush it,' I quip."I wish I had a wolf to talk out my thoughts with," Trish comments at random as we head to the conference room."I'll be your wolf," I say, trying to make Trish smile."A girl's night after this?" she asks. Her

We already figured that if she hadn't been out to eat, she likely had little to no experience in a shopping mall or outlet.'You're going to love what I found at the last store,' Liam links me.We were still getting used to sharing a link with Lucy. We were able to separate the two, but I knew we would have to be careful to make sure we were linking the way we intended.'Oh yeah?' I ask him as Lucy clings to my arm.She was right. Everyone was staring at her—more than even I had expected, but no one had done or said anything disrespectful yet.Liam stayed at the last clothing store we were at w
