Chapter Thirty-One

Aubrey’s POV

I couldn’t tell what was real and what wasn’t as my mind traveled through a mist, making it difficult to see my own hands. Suddenly, a figure emerged and stood a few feet away from me.

I couldn’t make out the face as it was covered with a hoodie, but from how the figure moved, it clearly had bad intentions, aimed to cause damage, and wasn’t hidden.

I squinted at the figure, trying to make out the face, but my vision blurred. It felt like my head had been spinning, making it difficult to focus.

I felt a sense of relief or fear run down my spine as the figure vanished before it could reach me. I tried to shake it off, to tell myself that what I saw wasn’t real and was all a dream, but the image remained in my head.

I started to slip away again, and that was when I felt the large hand on my shoulder force me to open my eyes. I bolted up from the chair, my heart jackknifing against my chest, but I calmed down when I saw Damon hovering over me.

    Aubrey’s POVI rubbed my eyes as I let out a groan. I was reaching my breaking point and knew that I wouldn’t be able to do this for a very long time. It was hard keeping up with the appearance, and it was telling me.Damon was a compassionate person and would notice my issues very soon. I took a large sip from the glass of water in front of me, trying to calm my nerves before I completely lost it. My phone rang, forcing me back to reality. I glanced at the caller ID; it was Hayden. Immediately, fear consumed me, and I began to panic. He would have figured everything out if he heard my voice, and I didn’t want that to happen. I watched the phone as it rang and entered voicemail. I was hoping that Hayden wouldn’t come to look for me. Because all I wanted right now was to be alone and figure out what was wrong with me. I covered my face with my hands, leaning into the couch I was seated on. I didn’t need a medical report because I knew I was slowly looking at everything happening.
