Pops and I sat outside just soaking in the moonlight while he started to tell me stories about him and his brother. I could feel his sorrow, and more and more I began to truly understand why he was so hard on me. He didn’t want to suffer more loss, and didn’t want Miles to feel the pain that he is still feeling to this day.

I get it. It may take me a while to sort my own headspace out, but I get it.

“I get it too. Your dad loves you,” Rome told me softly, listening intently to Pops as well. “He really loves you.”

I could feel Rome’s emotions, and they were aligned with mine. It makes me wonder what his former counterpart’s relationship was like with his dad.

It was getting late, but I really didn’t notice the time going by. Not until Miles and Chloe started walking towards us from the pack house, mom and Nonna were trailing along behind them. Miles had Chloe’s hand clenched in his, looking proud. She was as gorgeous as always, which I’m sure is contributing to the goofy lookin
