LISA'S POV
I woke up with a jolt, screaming. My heart was racing, and beads of sweat collected on my brows and trickled down my face. I clutched my chest, gasping for breath as I tried to calm down. I just had another nightmare, my second of the night. Some nights were worse than this. I brushed my hair back and tied it up in a bun as I tried to reminisce the events that has happened in my nightmare, I remembered the home where I had to flee, the home where I had been saved until the rogue wolves attacked my pack, where I had lived happily for a long while until my family was killed in the brutal attack that nobody had seen coming.
I laid my head back down onto the hard mattress if it could even be termed as that. I tried to close my eyes but the horrors I experienced were still fresh in my memory, I was afraid of the nightmares that would come back once my eyes were shut. But that didn't stop me from returning to the past I was constantly running from, and remembering what had happened, and how I had ended up in my current miserable situation.
I remember being happy and full of life, with a mother and a father who adored me and my sister. My father was respected in our land given that he was the Alpha of the Lycan pack, my mother was a kind and effective Luna. And they both ruled with grace. The Lycan pack was small, but it has been growing powerful and becoming stronger by the day, under the guidance of my father's strong leadership.
But all of that was in the painful past, and I had run like the coward that it was. Everyone was dead and gone, even my sister who has managed to survive the first hurdle and I was alone here in the Blood Moon pack, working as an Omega slave to save my life, but the nightmares were new. I had been having them consistently for about two weeks now, and I didn't know why. They weren't like the bad dreams I'd had when I first woke up in the dungeon and the weeks that followed after that. Dreams that were focused on remembering my fear and my act of cowardice, how I ran instead of staying to fight for my family. No, these nightmares were different and darker. The dreams were terrorizing, they were about when I was back home, at my old packhouse. But this time, everyone was dead. Everyone but me. Then I would make my way out of the packhouse and into the open field, and see all the wolves that had been left behind, battered and bruised. I couldn't see their faces, but I could feel their pain and despair as they cried out. They mourned the loss at no longer having a leader, their Alpha and Luna were the first victims of the rogue wolves attack and they had been killed instantly. They would look up to me for help, look up to me to lead them and save them, but I didn't know what to do. I was very much as helpless as they are. Then, a stealthy figure who had hidden in the dark would come up behind me, someone I knew. I could tell that someone was behind me, but I was never able to turn to face them in my dream. I would be frozen like a place, my feet would refuse to move. I would then feel the stab of a knife cut through my back and into my heart. That was when I would wake up. Night after night, for weeks now, this was the dream that I repeatedly had each time I went to sleep.
***
My mind went back to my last night working as a prisoner for the Blood Moon pack. I got out of bed after another nightmare and walked down to the lake. It was in the middle of the night, So I didn't expect to see anyone around, I only had a few hours left before I would be required at the packhouse to carry out my daily duties. I removed my clothes and stepped into the water, trying to wash away the lingering memories of the nightmare. I had been swimming and floating in the water for about half an hour, having a good time by myself when I felt someone lurking in the shadows and watching me. I looked around me but I couldn't see who it was.
"Look who I found here." I heard a voice call. The voice belonged to Luther, the Alpha of the Silverline pack, an affiliate to the Blood Moon pack. I couldn't see where he was but I knew he was close by.
I remained in the water for another ten minutes trying to locate where he hid. Soon after, he came out of the shadows of the tree line where he had been watching me from and walked towards the edge of the water where I had left my clothes in a heap. I stood where I was, with the water stop covering my body, and just stared at him, not daring to move an inch from where I stood.
"You can't stay in there forever, you would have to come out at some point." He told me, staring at me as a hungry wolf would, but I stop didn't move. "You have about three hours before you would be needed in the kitchen." He began again, staring down at his watch. "I would hate it if you would get any silver lashes for late coming in my account." He stated, clearly enjoying making me feel uncomfortable. With that said, he continued to stand there, not in a hurry to leave.
I was going to be in a whole lot of trouble if he decided to stay here, I would end up having to come out at some point.
"Has anyone ever told you that you look delicious? Even though you've been beaten terribly, your scars only make you more alluring to me." He asked me after a moment's silence, licking his lips as he did so.
I didn't reply and I still didn't move. I had barely spoken to anyone over the past few decades, due to the beatings that I would take whenever I spoke, and I wasn't about to start speaking again now.
"You know," he spoke again. "I'm nearing my expiration date faster than I realized and I still haven't found my mate. Who knows, she might be dead for all I know. Sooner or later, I was sure that I would find a worthy female who would fit the qualities I needed in a Luna." His eyes were fastened on me as he spoke.
I didn't believe for a second that he was thinking about considering me as his potential mate and future Luna. Choosing a mate was an absurd fact because you couldn't fool the natural law of nature. He was an airhead and I was quite sure the reason he had been deemed fit to become an Alpha was due to his incredible strength. And I didn't believe that he would risk the ire of his pack by choosing a slave to become his Luna. It would be a slap to the elder wolves in his pack and a rebellion would start. I just glared at him and wished he would disappear, I had already realized that his speech was laced with ulterior motives, he was merely trying to sweet talk me by luring me out of the water with promises of a better life simply for his desires.
He sat down by the edge of the water. "I could do this all day." He smirked, knowing that I would eventually have to come out of the water so that I would go to the packhouse, if I didn't, I would receive one silver lash for each minute I failed to report for duty. That was the law around here.
I still didn't move a muscle, I was terrified that he might use his Alpha command on me when he got bored of waiting for me to come and tell me to get out of the water. If he did that, I would either have to try to resist, and thereby blow my cover and show myself as not being an Omega, or follow his command and expose myself to him, and whatever he pleased to do with me at that moment. I was in a very difficult position, neither option was a good one and I silently prayed to the moon god for a third option that would present itself and allow me to escape without being abused.
His phone rang almost immediately and the smirk fell off his face as he listened to whoever was on the other end. "We'll continue this some other time, I got the news that someone is here looking to purchase one of our slaves."
I left out a huge sigh of relief and I had my way to the shore as soon as he left, I wore my clothes hurriedly and ran back to my room. I threw myself on the mattress and cried. The fear that I had just experienced was worse than any of the beatings I had taken up to this point. While in the water, I was stripped of my dignity, pride, and self-respect. I didn't have much time to wallow in shame, as it was almost time to report to the packhouse. I changed into dry clothes and hurried to the kitchen where I was told to report to the main office. Someone had activated my slave clause, I was no longer bound to the Blood Moon pack.
LISA'S POVI'm going to die tomorrow. There was no doubt about that. It was clear as the sky on a bright summer afternoon.Tomorrow is the day I clock twenty-one. The day I become an expired werewolf who had failed to find a mate.I know most people cry the day they are born but I was different. I was an odd child right from birth. I refused to cry initially till my bottom was spanked repeatedly, my tears brought delight to everyone around except me. I was as if I had a premonition that I was already doomed and here I was nearly two decades later about to prove my younger self-right.I received a letter from Elena I had lost count of how many she had sent. It was as if she knew I tore them at sight but here I was back in my apartment after reading the contents of her last letter. She profusely apologized for her selfish actions and begged for forgiveness. Nevertheless, it was
LISA'S POVI remembered my aunt, Evelyn shouting at me. "Run and don't look back. Take your sister and protect her with your life. And whatever you do, don't let them know you're the daughters of the Alpha. If you do, they would kill you without hesitation. Now, go!"I had just completed my sixth decade on earth, and it had been a wonderful day of celebrating my mother's birthday. The party had been spectacular, it was only befitting for someone of her status as everyone in their pack had come to honor their Luna. There were several other guests from other packs who were allies. The crowd was massive and they partied late into the evening. It was late into the night and the party was beginning to dwindle down as most of their guests had already taken their leave. I decided to help my aunt, Evelyn clean the kitchen which was in a messy state. Evelyn was my favorite aunt and she was an Omega who worked for her
LISA'S POVI could still remember how cold it had gotten in that cell, and how it felt like torture every day I spent there with only a few scraps of food from time to time. My sister had fallen sick and had died from pneumonia, I could still remember my cries for help but none was given. I had wished the man would act on his promise and kill me after he wiped out every wolf with affiliation to my pack like he had earlier suggested but something made him change his mind. I thought about when the Alpha finally came to me, his aura was so strong, it rolled off him like heat waves as he opened the door to my cell. I could tell he was a powerful wolf with a strong and large pack at his beck and call.He stared at me for a while before speaking. Due to my position as the daughter of an Alpha, I could easily have held a staring contest with him for a while, trying to fight his commanding presence but I was afraid to. Evel
LISA'S POVI shook my head, trying to get rid of the bitter memories of my past. Blocking out the horrors I had been through was the only way I had managed to survive for this long.Accept it. Accept whatever life brings your way. That's the way I would pull through this difficult moment. That's the way I'll figure out a plan on how to make the council pay for all the pain they've caused me.The rain begins to drizzle, its drops landing on my face which was already wet with my tears before trickling down my face. The rain runs over the wounds on my knuckles as fresh as the day it was inflicted after I had spent hours venting on the punching bag with my bare knuckles. The rain was beginning to fall earnestly now, I needed to find a place to stay before I got drenched and think about a few things while I was at it because I honestly had no idea on how to make the council pay. I cr
LISA'S POV "Are you ready to leave?" He pushed himself out of his seat and offered me his hand. I brought my eyes up to his face, scrutinizing him once again. "You're not going to kill me, are you?" He laughed as he adjusted his coat. "If I wanted to, you would have been dead a while ago." I nod my head. He had a point. I accept his outstretched hand and he jerks me up to my feet, nearly causing me to slam into him. He laughs at me as he sees the frown etched on my face before leaving me and walking towards the door. I take a few moments to compose myself before meeting him at the door which he holds open for me like a proper gentleman. He nudges me in the direction he wants us to go and we walk down the sidewalk. He suddenly grew quiet, leaving me to recollect how crazy today had been. Never in a million moons would I have ever envisaged this was how my life would turn out to be. "From
LISA'S POVThe dim lighting of the park brings back memories of my most precious moments on earth. I reminisce about the midnight runs, the long strides my little wolf legs could as I tried to keep up with my parents. The dance of the moon goddess before we went for a hunt. I stop to look at my reflection on the water, my eyes had dulled. I could no longer feel the connection to my wolf. Despite my show of bravery, I knew the task that lay ahead was almost impossible to achieve. I was aiming to become the first expired wolf. I close my eyes, letting the wind blow my hair forward."Why do you like this place so much?" I hear Jonas sit beside me on the grass which was still damp."It's how I want my life to be, calm," I say, opening my eyes."Was that why you requested to come here?""Yes," I said with a rueful smile."You know that's hard to achieve, don't you?""A girl can only dream, Jonas. It'
LISA'S POV"What just happened to me, Jonas?" I ask with a tremor in my voice.Putting my fingers tenderly on the spot which has been burning up a few minutes ago. I braced myself for the pain but I felt nothing, it was as if that moment had been erased from history. My neck felt cool but the bite mark was still there. Although it had closed up. Was this how being expired felt? I hadn't noticed any visible change yet, I could still feel my wolf within me and that was a big bonus. It was as if being expired didn't require you to undergo any physical change. I had half expected to look every inch of my hundred and twenty-one years on earth. For now, being the first expired wolf felt like an incredible achievement for someone who had given up on life less than two days ago.He runs his hand through his hair as he watched me intently. "You did the impossible. You messed with the timeline and you bent fate. I guess the w
LISA'S POV"Klaus," Jonas grinds out, disdain evident in his voice. "Why are you here?"The name sends a shiver down my spine. I shook my head trying to wake up from my daydream. There was no way it could be him, maybe I had heard wrong.I could hear the metal door groaning as it widened. Sharp clicks sound against the floor as the visitors enter, his scent immediately wafting through the door where I hid. He was a powerful wolf, I could smell it from here."Jonas." The voice booms around the house. Cold. Calculating. Sinister. He was a dangerous man and not one to be messed with and it was evident in his voice."You know why I'm here. Only one thing could have brought me this low.""Will you answer my question or do you want me to throw you out of my house? You've got limited time here, Klaus.""You have always been impatient and hot-headed, even as a child."The wheels in my head were s
Lisa's POVKayden knocks on my door, and I stand up from the bed, smoothing my dress as I walk towards the door to open it. The sight of him standing in the doorway steals my breath away. His hair is well styled tonight, and I've come to love the beard he's been growing. He could never shave that off. He's dressed in a black suit with a blue tie to match the color of his eyes.He bows slightly and holds out his hand, and I place mine in his. He pulls my hand towards his lips, pressing a kiss there. When he raises his head, his eyes are dark."I love you, Lisa Kane." He says, his voice low. "I don't think I'll ever stop loving you." He pulls me against him, his hand pressing into my lower back as he kisses me lightly on the forehead. I shudder from the tenderness of his actions.A smile makes its way to his lips as he pulls away. "What do you think about getting married to me tonight?""Your offer is very tempting, Kayden Blackwater." I rested my head against his chest. But you know, I
Kayden's POV"Do you think we did something wrong by trying to find a home, General Alex?" Hands handcuffed together to the metal table in front of her, Kira sits up, her eyes searching for Alex's face as she speaks in Greek.Alex leans against the wall of the interrogation room, his arms crossed on his chest. His face is drawn tight. There is no trace of his usual playful self. "Back in the days of old, when the Council took over the United States, It was decided that it would be the only home for people of our kind, so we could all live together under one government, and the moon god approved of it.The royal twins were present in the room, both silent with the same tense expression on their faces. Genevieve stands close to Antoine, translating every word spoken in Gregorian for them. Apart from Luke, she's the only person proficient enough in French in my order. Blake stands to the side, his eyes never leaving the prisoners, wary that they might have one last trick up their sleeve.
Kayden's POVA bullet whizzed past my head as my back slammed into the stones. That was close. I would have been a dead man by now.I let out a rough breath. "Thanks, man.""You owe me for this." Jonas smiled at me before turning his focus to the man who had pressed the trigger, charging toward him.The room itself is in chaos. The Epsilon soldiers and our wolves are mostly on one side of the room, while the other side is occupied by Kira's Colony. Kira, Isabel, and Annabelle are across the room. I couldn't let them escape.I fired a bullet into the head of the nearest demigod heading towards Kira, ducking and repeating the process as many times as I could. I turn back for a brief moment to see Lisa and my brother, who has shifted already, working together to repel the attacks of the demigods surrounding them. More soldiers rush into the room and a couple of them head my way. I fire both my guns at a couple of soldiers until my ammo is exhausted. Before I had the chance to reload, two
Lisa's POVKira appears in front of my cell, her face grim. She doesn't bother to shut the door. "Vadagasuli."She's alone, which is rather unusual.Where's Luke? I need to see him. " I demandShe pulls out a bunch of keys from her back pocket. "I do not care about him right now. You are my only concern."What is your grand plan? Are you here to kill me? ""Quite the opposite. I'm taking you somewhere else till this commotion settles. " She inserts the key into the lock and watches as the door swings open. I rush towards her and drive the dagger into her stomach. I know I didn't hit anything vital, but the satisfying feeling of the blade inside her is enough for me. She curses at me, her mouth pressed into a thin line as blood gushes from her body over my hand. She's about to raise her hand to strike me when she arches her back as someone stabs her from behind, Kayden's face appearing from behind her. His face was filled with anger as he retracted the blade and stabbed her again.Kayd
KLAUS' POV Genevieve walks alongside me as we leave the meeting room. Kayden is still in there talking with Alex and Jonas about the best approach to launching an attack on Kira, given how she's been expecting our arrival for days now. Genevieve pauses as we walk a considerable distance away from the door. "Be honest with me. Do you think Lisa is still alive? I wanted to ask you earlier, but I didn't want Kayden to listen in on our conversation. " I think so. If anything, I believe she would want to keep Lisa as a bargaining chip if things don't go as planned, or maybe she's saving her for something. " "You think she still has something important to do with her? Like saving her for some sort of grand finale? " I can't possibly say We'll find out tomorrow when we get to the cave. I just wish Kayden would take my advice and not go down with the soldiers. " You should know him by now. You can't change his mind when it's set. " I wanted to tell her I wasn't worried about his state o
Kayden's POVI'm a few blocks away from my destination. I had the car drop me halfway there. I needed the walk to clear my head and to say goodbye to the world before I went under to die. Ahead of me, an older couple stands on the sidewalk huddled together. The sight gives me mixed emotions. I wanted to have a life like this with Lisa, but at the same time, it seemed impossible. As I pass a group of teenagers, dancing with reckless abandon and enjoying every moment of life, I'm terrified about what fate holds for me, but despite that, I feared for Lisa more. Right now, she is more important than I am. As well as my cousin, Luke, it is my duty to protect them all, and that's what I'm going to do.My heartbeat quickens with every step that brings me closer to the cave. I don't know if it's out of fear or if it's the possibility of seeing Lisa again, even if it's for a moment to assure her that she would be safe now and also to apologize. For a long time, I let Lisa suffer the scorn of t
Lisa's POVIt's been a day since I had dinner with Kira. It didn't go as well as I planned, but stabbing her in the chest with my fork was the highlight of the whole event. The sad thing is that the fork didn't go as deep as I would have wanted it to. Luke has been counting from zero to a hundred for hours now. He says it helps him remain focused. The cell doors opened with a bang, jolting me out of my train of thoughts. Kira strolls in, flanked on either side by Isabel and Annabelle. None of them spares us a glance. A few seconds later, Jane is being shoved into the cell room. Two guards grip one of her arms each, and despite her best attempts at struggling, she's thrown into the cell across from mine. I didn't know how France would respond to this. Capturing the head of their Central Intelligence Unit is a big win for them. One of the guards walks towards the cell next to mine where a woman they have abducted is being held, hostage. The woman scrambles back, screaming as the guard r
KLAUS' POVTiffany twists the map in front of her, trying to get another view. They got through to Denver somehow. You can't just throw twenty years of friendship down the drain. " "Jonas he says, massaging his temple against what I'm sure is a headache. I can feel my head throbbing already."How about you, Blake? Have you found anything yet? " I ask."Demigods are symbolic creatures, but I've been staring at the maps for hours now and I can't find anything with any resemblance to any of their symbols." He points towards the maps he's been working on. I can see several dots and lines, but no tangible lead yet. "Nothing is coming up.""Keep trying." I feel we're close to solving this puzzle. The letter B. I looked up to see Stefan motioning towards the kitchen. I stand, leaving our work and heading to the kitchen.I don't know about you, but I'm suggesting that we keep the Prime Alpha occupied at all times. His voice is rather hushed. He knows Epsilon, the Gregorian alphabet, and the r
LISA'S POVKira's pale face and purple eyes smile at me when my blindfold is removed."Hello, Lisa. I've missed you." She says in a sing-song voice and it's almost as if I hear a multitude of people say my name in my head. I needed nobody to tell me that I'm in their headquarters. My mark itches slightly, my wrists still bound in handcuffs.Kira steps back and allows me to take in the view. I'm in a temple carved out of stone. It's terrifying and stunning as well. Great pillars were holding it erect. There are no windows and the place is rather cold. My pajamas would offer me no protection against the cold and it's not like I can ask Kira for some blankets. My mark continues to burn and I grit my teeth against the growing pain. I take another look around the place. How long have they been in France? Structures like this weren't built in a year or two. They have been planning their takeover right under all our noses
