Lena's POV. After I calm down I pull myself away from Leo and start building up my walls immediately, whatever moment just happened between us now, it can never happen again. “We should head back, the sooner I start analysing the samples I took, the better.” I tell him and he has this worried and confused look on his face. “Are you sure? You don't have to do that now, you can go back home and start up tomorrow.” He tells me. “I'm fine Leo, trust me. If I go home all I'll be able to think about are the samples that I need to analyse waiting for me back at the lab. So it's better if I just go to the lab.” I explain to him and for a moment it looks like he wants to complain but he let's out a sigh and decides against it. “Ok then, let's head back to the lab.” He tells me and I walk over to the passenger side of the car and get in. The car ride is mostly in silence, but unlike the car ride over this silence isn't comfortable, it's filled with unsaid words and tens
Alpha Leo's POV. Every fiber of my being wanted to stay and look after her ever since she had that scare back in the woods, but I knew that I couldn't, apart from her not going to like it, it wasn't my place anymore. But when she ran into my arms, for just those few moments, everything was right in the world, my heart was at peace because it was at home, she was home, she always has been. I need her back in my life, I need a plan, a full proof plan because I'll only get one shot to get her and the kids back. I pack my car in the garage and head into the house and straight to my office where I know Zeo is waiting. “You're back early, I thought for sure you'd spend all day with Lena, what happened?” He asked as I walked into the office and he has that smirk on his face. “We have a problem.” I tell him and he must hear the urgency in my voice because the smirk immediately clears from his face. “What is it?” He asked. “Lena and I went down to Brie's parents
Lena's POV. I've been in the lab for hours now, staring at the results on the screen, like maybe the longer I stare at it the more it will make more sense to me, but it isn't working. Frustrated, I get up from my chair and take off my mask and gloves. “Arggghhhhhh!” I scream. I've never been so stumped and frustrated in my life before. “This can't be right. I mean the elements and the arrangements, they're all wrong.” Emmett says more to himself as he stares at the screen. “I've never seen anything like this before and it's the same thing with Brie's labs, the tests are also inconclusive. What exactly is this disease?” I asked myself and as I continued staring at the screen a light bulb went off in my head, it finally clicked. “That's it.” I say as I let out a sigh of relief. “What is it?” Emmett asked, looking very confused. “We've been treating this disease luke any normal disease but that's where we were wrong, it's not like any other
ALPHA LEO'S POV. The moment she said that this was planned, that someone did this on purpose, all my fears were verified. I always blamed myself for letting this happen to my pack, for not seeing it coming and then not being able to find a cure to help my people that were dying and now Lena all but confirmed that this is really my fault. Ever since she said it I've just had this loud ringing in my ear and Zeo was now the one asking questions but I needed to get myself together. “So do either of you happen to have a witch or warlock on speed dial?” Lena asks. “No, Lena you know how those guys are, they're as introverted and secluded as they get plus they hate our kind.” Zeo tells her. “Yea, I know. I was just hoping. It isn't going to be easy to find one, talk more of getting them to help.” She says and then she bites her lip, it's a habit of hers, she always does that when she's frustrated. “I know someone.” I say and they both turn to look at me, the sam
Lena's POV. As I drive back to the lab, my mind whirls back to when I got the letter from Leo, asking for my help and also when I decided to help him. Maybe I should've listened to Zoey, I should've said no and by now I would be back at home with my kids, none the wiser about what was going on here. But no, my bleeding heart had to go and say yes and now not only do I have to find a cure, I also have to go with Leo to New Orleans of all places to convince his witch friend to help us and then there's also the part where all this is a directed attack, which means that none of us here in the pack are safe. “Yea, I should've said no.” I whisper to myself as I stop the car and get out of it. I take a deep breath and steady myself before I go back into the lab. There's no point thinking of what if’s, I'm here now and the sooner I find a cure, the sooner I can get out of here and back to my life. But as I say that, it doesn't sound as true and there's only one reason for that
Lena’s POV. Yes, she's definitely pissed. “I invited them for dinner.” I repeat again. “Yea, I heard you the first time, why would you do that?” She asked me, she was looking at me like I was crazy or something. “Ok, let me start from the beginning, it'll make sense when I'm done explaining.” I tell her. “Alright, I'm listening.” She says as she has her hands folded over her chest. “Leo and I went to get some samples and look around the area where the first kid that got sick lived, when we got there we found this black sludge and turns out it was running underneath the ground but we don't know how far it has gone, Leo and Zeo are looking into it but I'm pretty sure that's the cause of the disease. I took a sample back to the lab to examine, same with some water and soil sample and they all came back inconclusive, same thing with Brie's labs, all the tests we ran on her were inconclusive. Alpha Leo's POV. After we left the land, the feeling left but it still shook me, that must've been the same thing Lena felt. “Are you good Leo?” Zeo asked as we made our way out of the house, it wasn't seven yet but by the time we drove down to the house it should be. “Yes, I'm fine.” I tell him, still a little bit distracted. Just as I'm about to open the front door, there's a knock on the door. “Who could that be?” I asked Zeo. “It's probably Elijah.” He tells me and then I remember him saying Elijah was going to come over to give his report, with everything happening today, I completely forgot. I open the door and you can see the shock on his face that I'm the one that opened the door. “Alpha Leo.” He greets then bows his head. “Come in Elijah, we were just about to head out.” I tell him as he steps into the foyer. “Ok, then I won't keep you, I just came to give my report for the day and then I'll head out again.” He tells us.
Lena's POV. It took us about two hours but we finally had dinner ready. The cake needs another twenty minutes in the oven and then I'll pull it out. I check the time and it's already six thirty, Emmett is in the living room with the kids. Zoey already bathed them and they're in their PJs, Zoey is currently up in her room getting ready and when she gets down, I'll go up and get ready. While I'm setting the table, she comes down looking really good in a white floral dress and it looks like she even put on a bit of makeup. “Not a word from you.” She tells me. “I didn't say anything.” I say as I do my best to hold back my smile. “You should go get ready before your guests arrive, I'll finish setting the table.” She tells me. “Thank you and you can take the cake out in like twenty minutes.” I tell her. “OK, twenty minutes.” She says. “And Zoey….” “Yea?” “You look really pretty.” I tell her and then I run up the stairs but I don't m
Lena's POV. It's been a few minutes and she still hasn't said anything she just keeps staring at me and blinking her eyes. “Zoey, please say something, you're starting to scare me.” I tell her. “I'm sorry. I'm fine, I'm fine. It's not even possible right? Human and werewolves can't be mates, can they?” She asked me. “Actually they can, it's rare but it does happen.” I tell her. “But like you said, you might be wrong.” She tells me. “Yea, I might be.” I say. “Good, we'll just chuck up what happened to me needing to get laid. Now let's get this food on the table before it gets cold.” She says and then she carries one of the serving plates and heads straight to the dining room. I don't know whether I want to be right or wrong. For as long as I've known Zeo, he has been looking for his mate, all his friends had found theirs, even guys at the pack younger than him. But maybe this is why, his mate wasn't a wolf like him, she was human. If th
