Lena's POV. Leo walks back with us to the house and then he says goodnight to the kids, I'm so confused, in fact I've been confused ever since he saw Luke and didn't say anything. My sweet shy Karla gives him a hug, Liam hig fives him and tells him to come back the next day and then finally Luke steps up and shakes his hand, he tells him goodnight and also tells him to come by soon. Then finally, it's my turn and in my head, I'm thinking, this is finally it, this is the moment he's been waiting for to ask me about the kids. But he doesn't say anything, he simply leans down and kisses me on the cheek and then he steps back. “Goodnight Lena, I'll see you tomorrow.” He says and then he waves to the kids and walks away. “Mummy, boss man is cool, I like him.” Liam tells me as she strolls into the house. “I like him too.” Karla tells me and my heart breaks at that point, my sweet baby girl who has a very hard time connecting to people, but she had bo problem co
Alpha Leo's POV. I get back home and from what I can hear, Scarlett isn't here, which fills me with a sense of relief rather than worry. I've been in denial for a very long time, maybe it was because I've loved her since I knew what love meant. But now it's like the covers have been removed from my eyes. When she left me the first time to get married to someone else, I should've let her go then, but I didn't. I still loved her, which was why when she came back I took her back with no questions asked. But that right there was the biggest mistake of my life, there's a saying that goes, ‘when someone shows you who they are, believe them.’ Scarlett showed me the type of person she was when she left me and I should've believed her. If I did then my life would've been completely different. Lena and I would still be together and we would be raising our kids together. But here I am, married and miserable without kids and a pack that is being decimated by some mysterious diseas
Alpha Leo's POV. “This is crazy. She must know that Luke looks like you. So what did she say when you saw him?” Zeo asked. “She looked so scared Zeo, I mean the look on her face. I was the reason she was scared, because she knew that I had put two and two together.” “I knew if I confronted her, there was a high chance that she would high tail it out of here. She would take the kids and leave and I would never see them again. They'll both be gone and also any chance of saving our pack will be gone with them. I couldn't confront her, I mean it was clear from her reaction that she didn't trust me and I don't blame her. When I saw that look on her face, I wondered why she would be scared and my mind went back to that day.” “What day?” He asked me. “That day back at the club, when she came to tell me she was pregnant and the way I dismissed her. I told her the baby wasn't mine, I basically made them bastards. What the hell was wrong with me?” I ask mostly myse
Lena's POV. The next day, I leave the house pretty early just as the sun rises, the kids are still fast asleep in my bed, they all crawled in there last night and I can never turn them away. I give them kisses on their heads before I leave but none of them stir. I already told Zoey last night that I would be leaving early so she knows. I step out of the house and take a deep breath, the view is amazing. The sun is like a ball of fire rising out of the trees, the birds are chirping and the air is fresh. This is one thing that you can't get in the city and now that I'm here after all these years, I have to admit that I've missed it. If the lab wasn't so far from the house, I would take advantage of this beautiful day and walk but I can't do that. I already texted Emmett and he was already awake, that's why I like working with him, he always ready to tackle any situation and it also helps that he's a genius, I need those two things if I want to find a cure for this diseas
Lena's POV. “What are we going to do now?” He asked me. I stay silent for a few moments and then it comes to me. “We need fresh samples, maybe this disease doesn't survive out of the bloodstream for a long period of time. So we need to get fresh blood samples. They're monitors in the clinic already so I need you to get the microscope and every other thing that we'll need we need to get to the clinic now.” I tell him and while he runs around to gather everything that we'll need, my mind is going a mile a minute. What kind of disease is this? It's like I feared it's smart, it's really smart. If it doesn't show up outside of the body then we're going to have a really big problem finding a cure. “I have everything.” Emmett says as he comes towards me with a box in his hand. “Ok, let's go.” We take of our gowns, masks and surgical gloves and out them in the trash and then we walk through the decontamination bay before we leave the lab. “What kind of
Alpha Leo's POV. After Lena left the room, I knew she said she would come and tell me what she found out but for some reason, I couldn't seat still. I tried my best and lasted all of ten minutes before I went down to the hall to the office she entered and I caught the tail end of her talk with Katy. “The problem is the disease isn't showing up in their blood and so there's no way for me to find out what it is.” “What did you just say?” I asked her, I couldn't believe what I just heard, I didn't want to believe it. “Leo, I was just about to come and get you. The disease or whatever it is isn't showing up in their blood, their blood is clear. Back at the lab I thought maybe it was because we stored it overnight that's why I came here to get another sample but it’s still the same thing. The blood is clear, there's no sign of any abnormalities.” She explains to me and I can hear the pain in her voice and it's almost like she feels the same pain that I do from hea
Lena's POV. With the way Leo asks about the kids, I have come up with two conclusions. The first one is that his head is so filled up with this disease and the fact that his pack might be wiped away by it that his brain hasn't had the time to assimilate that Luke looks exactly like Leo when he was that age or the second which seems to be the most likable but hard to believe is that he knows the kids are his but for some reason he isn't saying anything and I need to know why. Is he doing this because he's respecting my decision or does he have something more nefarious in mind? But I answer his question though and for some reason it's so easy to talk to him about the kids that I volunteer even more information but then my eyes sight something really gory. “What is that?” I asked Leo as I pointed as the liquid sludge bubbling in a puddle in the middle of the ground. “I have no idea, this is the first time I'm seeing that. No one has been back here since the evacuate
Lena's POV. After I calm down I pull myself away from Leo and start building up my walls immediately, whatever moment just happened between us now, it can never happen again. “We should head back, the sooner I start analysing the samples I took, the better.” I tell him and he has this worried and confused look on his face. “Are you sure? You don't have to do that now, you can go back home and start up tomorrow.” He tells me. “I'm fine Leo, trust me. If I go home all I'll be able to think about are the samples that I need to analyse waiting for me back at the lab. So it's better if I just go to the lab.” I explain to him and for a moment it looks like he wants to complain but he let's out a sigh and decides against it. “Ok then, let's head back to the lab.” He tells me and I walk over to the passenger side of the car and get in. The car ride is mostly in silence, but unlike the car ride over this silence isn't comfortable, it's filled with unsaid words and tens
Lena's POV. Well this trip is really shaping up, first Leo got his ass whopped by his sister and then there's the revelation of the vision. “What do you mean I called her name out in the vision, you never told me this.” Leo tells her, he looks so shocked and confused. “Because I only had that vision that night you Buffon, why do you think I called you? The person that's scared of electronics picked up a phone and called because I know if I sent a postcard by the time it got to you it would be too late. But you didn't want to hear anything I had to say.” She tells him and that shuts him up, he has such a guilty look on his face. “He wasn't really listening to anyone that day.” I tell her. “You said he called me Selene in the vision right?” I asked her. “Yes he did.” She tells me. “Well I don't want to say your vision is wrong, but maybe it's kind of redundant now because that isn't my name anymore, so it's possible that Leo's future has change
Alpha Leo's POV. She opens the door wider and me and Lena just step in, shocked. I thought she would've slammed the door on my face, I mean I was expecting it. But I was not expecting this at all, her being all calm and welcoming us in. I look around the house and see that she has done some remodelling. “The house looks amazing Freya.” I tell her. “Thank you, I had a phase where all I watched were home were home decorating shows, so I decided to experiment on the apartment.” She tells me as she leads us to the living room. “Please Selene, take a seat.” She tells Lena. “Actually I don't go by Selene anymore, it's now Lena.” Lena tells her. “Ok, please have a seat Lena.” Freya tells her and Lena leaves me and takes a seat on the couch. “Now, as for you big brother.” Freya turns to me and then her eyes turn purple ans the next thing I know I'm being thrown on the wall across the room. Yea I should've seen that coming. “How could you, I
Alpha Leo's POV. The drive into the heart of New Orleans which is the french quarter is in silence, I won't say the silence is comfortable, it's strained with tension caused by things left unsaid, things that neither of us are ready to talk about so we just stay in the silence. I don't know what happened on the plane or why I went of on her like that, it's just that I suddenly realised that the closer we get to finding a cure, the closer we get to Lena and the kids leaving and that is something I do not want to happen. “The city is really beautiful.” Lena says as she stares out her window. “Yes it is, it's alive with culture, they always have some kind of celebration, remembrance or feast everyday and then at night that when it really comes alive.” I tell her. “Maybe one day when we don't have a clock on our backs I can come back here, maybe I'll bring the kids too.” She tells me. “Yea that would be great.” I tell her and she stops looking out the wi
Lena's POV. After he answers my question, he closes his eyes and after a few minutes, his breathing evens out, I don't know if he's actually asleep or if he's pretending so I don't ask him any more questions. He hasn't talked to the girl he saved, the girl he considers his little sister for six years, what could he have possibly done? Six years, so they were still talking while we were together, all that time and I had no idea she was in his life. I guess it just shows even more how much I really didn't know him, he never really opened up to me, showed me all the parts of him, he just showed me what I wanted to see ans I fell for it. I just stare at him, how can one person inflict so much hurt and pain, the same person that has shown that he's capable of so much love and kindness, how is it possible? “I can feel you staring at me Lena.” He says but he doesn't open his eyes. I quickly avert my eyes. “I wasn't staring and I thought you were asleep.” I
Alpha Leo's POV. Lena gets up and takes the seat opposite me, so she's facing me, I guess there's no getting out of this. “Are you sure you really want to hear this? I don't think it's a good idea Lena.” I tell her, hoping she'll say no and I'll be able to get away from this. “Nothing you say is going to hurt or affect me, we're friends right? We agreed to be friends and friends talk to each other about stuff like this. Also I need to know a little more about Freya before we meet her, so I know what I'm expecting.” She tells me. “Ok, but remember friends also don't judge.” I tell her and she smiles. “Fine, no judgement, now spill.” She tells me, she looks like a kid in a theatre, I mean all that's missing is the popcorn. “Ok, after Scarlett left me, I was a shadow of myself, I didn't want to feel, I was basically just existing, I knew I couldn't stay back at the pack, my father was still alive at the time and he was seriously disappointed in me, he c
Alpha Leo's POV. We arrive at the private airstrip about two hours later. The pack is so secluded that it takes a while to get to the city. “We're here.” I tell Lena as I park the car near the jet but not too close, someone will come and move it anyway. “You know when you said private jet, it didn't occur to me until now to ask who had it.” She tells me. “Oh, this one is mine.” I tell her and she looks so shocked that it makes me smile as I come down from the car. She gets down to and follows me to the trunk of the car where I'm taking out our bags. I only have one suitcase and my backpack. She takes her suitcase but I insist on carrying the rest. “Good afternoon Alpha Leo.” Stefan my pilot greets me. “Good afternoon Stefan, is everything ready?” I asked him. “Yes, the jet passed all the tests, we are ready for take off.” He tells me. “Good, this is Lena Everhart, she'll be flying with us.” I tell him. “Nice to meet you.” S
Lena’s POV. It's ten thirty in the morning, last night Zoey and I talked and that was exactly what I needed to put my defences up. Leo might be a changed man and I'm not doubting that or anything but it doesn't mean that I can let him back in my heart, maybe someday we might be friends, I guess we have to to since I'm considering letting him back into the kids lives but that's it, just friends. The kids woke up very cranky this morning, coming down from their sugar high, so I gave them all a hot bath and we has some eggs and toast with orange juice for breakfast. Emmett left like an hour ago to go to the lab while the kids are currently doing some home school with Zoey. As for me, I'm currently making sure I have everything packed before I close up my box and my carryon, also my backpack containing my devices, like my laptop, tablet and of course their chargers. When I'm sure I have everything I need I zip it all up and carry them downstairs. I drop all my bags b
Lena’s POV. The kids were sugar crazed, there was no other word for it, turns out after they were done with their dessert, they helped Emmett with his, like I said before it's like I had four kids. But thankfully, unlike before, this time the adults outnumbered the kids and we were able to get them to bed an hour past their bedtime just like I predicted. “Goodnight sweet cheeks, I'll be seeing you soon.” Zeo tells Zoey and he blows her a kiss, she just glares at him and storms off. We walk out of the house. “Zeo, you have to take it easy with her.” I tell him. “I know, I know.” He tells me but he still has that grin on his face, I think the only time it slipped all night was when Zoey said she would let another man in the house. “But wait a minute though, is this really happening? Are you guys mates?” I ask him, I mean seeing them together tonight already proved my suspicions right, but I have to hear it from him. “Yea, we are. Trust me I wa
Alpha Leo's POV. “Yea, what is this I hear about you taking Lena to New Orleans Leo?” Zoey asked. Of course she comes for me first, I felt her eyes one me throughout dinner, she's just been waiting for this opportunity. “Yes, Lena and I are going to New Orleans to convince a witch that I know to help us with the cure.” I reply her calmly. “I know, Lena told me that part. What I don't understand is why can't you go alone? I mean you're the one who knows the witch, why does Lena have to go with you?” She asked me. “Zoey!” Lena calls her out. “What I told you I would cook for them, but I never promised to be on my best behaviour.” She tells Lena and then she turns back to glaring at me. “It's fine Lena.” I say to her then I turn back to Zoey. “I need Lena to go with me because I might be the one that has the contact, but she's the doctor she's the one that understands this disease and can explain it to the witch.” I speak to her calmly be
