Chapter 6 His wife

Caiden said, "Since you left, a lot of things have changed. I got married and became alpha."

I thought I was going to pass out from the intense pain that took over my heart at that moment. But I had to swallow all those feelings and my tears. He's an Alpha, so I wasn't shocked; he would undoubtedly have a Luna by his side.

"Caiden, you had to have had a reason for rejecting me, right?" I looked at him as I asked.

Without meeting my eyes, he said, "I'm an Alpha and I need a strong Luna by my side. You were always weak, Kamara. So weak that you couldn't even protect your own children."

Caiden had no right to say that to me, after the risks I took to care for those four children on my own. Only I knew what I went through, how strong I had been, and I wouldn't let Caiden hold me responsible for what happened.

I wanted to scream and tell Caiden everything, but I could hear hasty footsteps coming. When the woman entered the room, her anxious face tightened my gut. I knew who she was.

As our gazes locked, she sighed, "Kamara, Enzo told me you were back and I couldn't believe it. Had to come see for myself." Jessie came up to give me a quick hug which I didn't return and a beaming smile.

"You became his Luna?" The betrayal nearly caused my eyes to water. A forced smile appeared on Jessie's face as I looked at her. The woman gave a nod. I could see everything as if the blindfold had come off of my eyes. Did Enzo dislike me this much because of this? Even though Jess and I were never close, she was aware of my deep love for Caiden and how much I wanted to be his Luna.

"Your beta's sister is your wife and mate, how quite surprising."

Caiden remarked, "You make it sound like it's a bad thing."

I swallowed my miserable grief and smiled at the pair, saying, "That doesn't matter anymore. I didn't come here to revisit my past; I came here to get help finding my kids. I'm hoping the Alpha will see to it that I actually get help."

My legs grew weaker as I left the room without turning back. He actually moved on without a care in the world. I thought back to all those times I suffered from heartbreak and regretted every minute of it. He was happily married and I was suffering.

Jessie was very beautiful, with long red hair, curvy figure and black eyes. Her make up was always on point. Although her stance exuded authority and command, she hadn't given Caiden the four lovely children that Kamara had given him. When she barged into the room, she could see the slight excitement etched on Caiden's face when she looked into his eyes.

After seven years of marriage, Jessie was unable to become pregnant for Caiden. It infuriated her as much as it frustrated her. She was compassionate and affectionate when her husband was around. But she changed into someone else when Caiden was not present.

She averted her eyes and pretended to be apologetic. "I apologize for interrupting the conversation. I was delighted to hear that Kamara had returned and wanted to see her."

"When did you get to know Kamara well enough to welcome her personally?"

"Since when did you choose to keep the fact that you had kids with her a secret?"

She should have been alarmed by the enraged look Caiden gave her, but she refused to back down.

"And how do you know that the kids she's talking about are even mine?”

Jessie widened her eyes at him. That question seemed like a perfect trap for Caiden to discover her secrets.

“Then whose would they be?” she composed herself. “If they were children of someone else, she wouldn’t come asking for your help, Caiden. That’s exactly what I would do if I were in her place.”

She could call the alpha by his first name whenever they were alone. On other occasions, Jessie always referred to him as Alpha.

Caiden was never happy about not having an heir. It was something she had always known. The disputes were so frequent that they hadn't discussed it in a while. Jessie was unsure what to do about Caiden's demand that she have children. She couldn't have kids and she couldn't tell him. So as not to exacerbate their differences, she avoided talking about it whenever it came up. There was peace for a while, and Jessie thought Caiden had given up on having kids until she found Kamara and found out that she had given birth to four boys—all of whom were the alpha's.

She had gone to the human realm to get jewelries when she saw Kamara and some kids. She moved closer only to see their striking resemblance to Alpha Caiden. She knew immediately that they were his.

She was aware that knowing this would derail all of her aspirations to be the ideal Luna. Jessie came up with an almost flawless plan as Caiden couldn't be aware of the whereabouts of those kids, but something went awry with her plan to kill Kamara and the quads. She wanted for Caiden to never find out about this secret, but thee four boys and Kamara were still alive.

She tried to read his reactions, to predict his next move, and grinned as she did so. she couldn't even figure him out. His expression was always so neutral.

"Now, what are your plans?" She asked.

Gazing at her, Caiden was suspicious of the composure Jessie displayed in such a complex situation.

"Definitely help her find the kids to erase any doubt," he declared, observing her.

"What if it turns out that they're not yours?" Jessie's asked, her eyes, widened.

"Like you said Jessie, she wouldn't be here if they weren't my kids. You'd lead the pack in my absence. That's an order." She watched grab the car keys and leave.

The room door closed as Jessie's heart thumped in her chest. She wanted to scream. Her wolf was in a rage. Together with his former mate, Caiden would leave the pack and go in search of the missing children. Not only had the scheme backfired, but it had also given Kamara another opportunity to win Caiden back. She was not going to let that happen.
