I knew someplace we could crash for the night.

Surprisingly enough, getting Lola out of the compound had been uneventful. Was it too uneventful? How the fuck was I to know? All I knew was the unease creeping up my spine had me wide awake, while Lola slept on the tattered couch in Ike’s shop.

The Alliance seemed to always be two steps ahead. They had a way of convincing you that black was white, and pink was yellow. The note that had been left in her room had been the final straw.

Lola mumbled something in her sleep, causing me to glance over at her sleeping form.

“She’s fucking beautiful,” Ike commented from where he laid underneath his bike.

I tried not to bristle at the comment because Ike was only stating the truth. I didn’t have friends, that wasn’t a legacy given to a magical foster kid turned Alliance captive.
