The U-shaped table is chaired by Kyle in the middle, with his wife Luna on one side and Kieran on the other. Richard and I sit opposite. He runs his hands over his face several times, leaving one hand stroking his three-day beard, as he does every time, he is speechless.
But I have too many things to say, and I don't have time for him to take the courage he needs, so I break the awkward silence.
"How did you get there first than us?" Richard looks at me in surprise, because I'm sure he didn't expect that to be my first question.
"We took a plane," he answers me, "they told me that they took you by car and it was fine, it is more difficult for them to detect you," he adds as if it were normal to use the word "detect". I deep breath. I think neither he nor I can wait to think about this for another second.
"Is everything they told me true, Richard?" I ask him.
"It depends on what they have told you, Bianca," he answers me, "the great truth is that I have lied to you about many things. Your name is not Bianca, you are not an orphan, and you are my niece. Your father is a man of great power, and your mother was my sister. She told me to take you far away and that's what I did."
I look at him carefully to see when he breaks out laughing and he tells me that everything is joking. I wait for a second, then two, but nothing happens.
Then I get it. It's true, everything Velkan said about my father. A tear runs down my cheek. I snort loudly and my brain gets cloud. I'm not seeing good old Richard, that eccentric man who was my teacher and tutor, who watched over me since I knew him. The one that took me to know the sea. In front of me was the person who caused everything that had happened in my life. Being an orphan, to begin with.
"So, it is true that I have parents, that he is a powerful man, and that you took me away from them when I was born," I claim, "why?" My voice comes out in a whisper, "what did you earn by getting me away from my parents? Money? Was it money you were going to earn, Richard?"
"You're misunderstanding everything, Bianca," he replies, "I'm not the bad guy in this story. It was your mother who asked me to take you away from your father. He wanted to hurt you and the only way to avoid it was by taking you with me."
"If you are not guilty, why do they accuse you of being a traitor?" I blurt out, my voice is shaking.
Many people have come and gone in my life, guys who came for a while and then went to live their lives, they came and went, sometimes we saw them again and many times, we did not. But the only constant in all this time has been Richard, it was always him and me and the others, who could be from a ridiculously small girl to a moody teenager. If I can't trust Richard anymore, I'm not sure about anything anymore.
"Because I disappeared, I was afraid for you, so I lost all contact with my alpha," he says looking at Kieran's father, "it was extremely dangerous for someone to inform your father where you were."
"If my mother asked you to take me away, I guess she's dead," it sounds strange saying the words out loud, but being an orphan, I long ago stopped thinking of my parents as people who were somewhere, I assumed, like many guys do, who they were already dead. Now I'm just confirming what I always believed.
"Your father made a trial, and the punishment was death, that's true," he replies with anger in his voice.
"So, my father the sociopath, sadist, and murderer killed my mother and wants to do the same with me," I make the summary almost laughing bitterly, but Kyle looks at me with some threat in his eyes, "What? Is there no one to report him to the authorities?"
My tone of voice makes Kyle rise from the table like he's going to jump on me. It seems that these people are exasperated by nothing.
Kieran gets up and places a hand on his father's shoulder to reassure him and he returns to his place from him at the table. Richard looks at him suspiciously, but he turns his face to me again.
"It's not that simple," Richard watches him, too, and when he's sure that Kyle is sitting, he responds, "We're other types of people and we don't run by the laws you're used to."
"That's clear to me," I tell him with all the anger that runs through my body since I was kidnapped, "before I thought they were a kind of cult because of the way they bow to Kieran and such, but you tell me that they are powerful people, so they must be some kind of mafia, with their little kings who think they are gods or something like that. I wouldn't be surprised if you tell me they sell drugs or human organs anyway."
"Be very careful what you say, Alanna," Kieran's father snaps at me, who now doesn't care if his son tries to reassure him, "we know you haven't been raised with us, but don't you dare insult your race."
"Race?" I blurt out, "we are all human beings, sir, no one should discriminate against anyone or say that we have races, and I don't care if you think you are a king, we are all equal and have the same rights."
"This is the last time I warn you, Alanna," he snaps, "I don't allow anyone to lack the respect to me, much less someone from my own pack."
"I don't belong to anyone and don't tell me what to do or say!" I shout at him with all the fury that I carry, "and I don't care about your threats, I also deserve respect and I have the right to give my opinion as I believe."
But far from getting him to respect me, everyone's faces are full of panic, except for Kyle, whose face is red with rage.
It is when he begins to transform. His skin is full of black fur and his bones contort to take the shape of a dog, no, a wolf.
Uncontrollable movements start from my feet to my head. The figure of the huge wolf climbs on the table and I get up from my chair to back slowly, while the wolf comes down from the table, to approach me little by little with each step that I retreat, with a mouth full of drool, growling as he goes.
But a figure stands in front of me. He's another black wolf and he's protecting me, though he's not trying to attack the wolf that is Kyle. This one takes a step back and begins to change. The wolf that comes between me and Kyle also transforms and takes me in his arms.
"You are, OK?" Kieran says when he reverts to his human form".
"Yes," I managed to say, trembling like a leaf, "you're a fucking wolf!" I yell at him trying to get away from him, "you are all fucking wolves!"
"Yes, we are," he replies, "and so are you."

"Now, try to calm yourself down," Kieran tells me, clinging me to his completely naked body, which does not help me feel calm at all. "Maddox hasn't finished telling you the whole story."
My eyes go from Richard to Kieran and back, trying not to look below his waist.
"You and I have a lot to talk about, Kieran," his father intervenes, "I'm not going to accept insubordination from anyone and that includes you."
"I'm sorry I acted like that, Dad, but I have particularly good reasons," he replies, "but first I think it's good that Alanna knows why we're trying to protect her," he adds and gestures for Richard to continue.
"I think I have to start telling you the story with all the parts censored, I suppose," says Richard. "Yes, we are werewolves, that's why we don't abide by the laws of humans," he clarifies, and I try again to get rid of Kieran and he leaves me this time, then Frans takes the opportunity to approach a piece of furniture and passes pants to father and son.
"I'll start by telling you that your mother belonged to the Scarlet Moon pack, where you are now," says Richard, and I look at him carefully, "she was the beta's daughter, Mikael. Your lineage within this pack goes back for long-standing. In fact, I was beta before I had to hide you. My brother, Maikan, is the current beta and his daughter will be next. All our descendants belong to this pack and Alpha Kyle organized your quest to bring you to this, your home. Here you belong.
"There is an old legend about your birth. It is said that the daughter of the four races would beget the she-healer of the world. Nobody was paying attention to that story, much less my siblings and me. The truth is that our mother was the daughter of a werewolf and a witch, and my father's parents were a werewolf, and she half-human, who in turn was part vampire. I, my brother Maikan and my sister Adara were born from them.
"So, the four races are humans, werewolves, vampires, and witches," I try to understand.
"That's right," answer my question, "it's not that my parents joined because they knew you would be born or anything, they were a couple, and no one planned anything for you to be born."
"But your father, the Silver pack alpha, Einar, did believe in that old legend and took it upon himself to make Adara fall in love, who was seduced by her alpha charms. Before the ceremony where she was going to be declared Luna, Adara met her mate and for us, wolves, which means we leave all our previous love commitments, to join our mates. It is something that you cannot avoid."
"So Adara would have to leave your father, unless, of course, she rejected him as her mate, but she did not want to, not even because Einar tried to tempt her with the Luna position, he offered her. She really loved her partner, regardless of your father or his alpha position."
But Einar wasn't going to let your mother leave him, because he had plans for her. The daughter born from that union was going to help him conquer other packs since his warriors could heal. So, he made up an excuse to invoke his alpha's right and challenged Azid, your mother's mate, to a duel and killed him, leaving your mother devastated.
"She resigned losing her mate and did the ceremony, becoming the Silver pack Luna. In a brief time, she became pregnant with you. For a while everything was fine until your mother found out the reasons why your father had done everything, including why he had confronted Azid through a trap that he set, so she came to seek help from Maikan And mine, and we spoke to Alpha Kyle, to protect her."
“We managed to get her out of the Silver pack by means of an excuse that your mother prefers to stay with her family until you were born, and your father reluctantly accepted. With that, we were able to stop your father for a while, until you were born.
"When your father found out that a girl had been born, he demanded from Alpha Kyle that he wanted his Luna and daughter back, but the alpha refused at the request of Einar, claiming that she could stay in the Scarlet Moon pack for the right that has her lineage."
“Einar wasn't going to sit idly by, so he summoned a council from the Luna, and they decided that Adara should return to the Silver pack. But she asked Maikan and me to take you far away, where no one could harm you and, despite the decision of the council, I spoke with my alpha to ask for his protection, again, in what he was going to do and he agreed, always to give him a report from time to time."
"So, I hid in the human world. Since neither of us is purebloods, we could hide our scent if we got together with other humans, so I decided to make a foster house for orphaned children because the children's scent is much stronger."
"But the legend was true. You began to demonstrate your healing powers from the beginning. One day Jasper, one of the children, had an accident where he broke his arm, but you were close to him, and his bone healed in a matter of hours when you touched him."
"Then I got scared. If humans found out that a person like you existed, they would start asking questions. So, I decided to hide more from others, both from my world and from humans. I also thought that not only Einar should have ambitions of how to use your powers, but other alphas could also want it and thus gain territories from other packs because their warriors would heal in your presence, while the other warriors would be wounded and even killed."
"Did you seriously Maddox think I would want to hurt Adara's daughter?" The imposing alpha intervenes with a certain pain in his voice, "your family and mine are awfully close. We grew up together, you, Maikan, Ketin, Adara, and me. I would never hurt them, we are family. My duty is to protect them."
"I know, my alpha, I also consider you to be my family," Richard or Maddox or whatever he wants to call himself, I don't know now if I know him well or if I ever got to know him, "but you have to admit, Kyle, that the risk of Alanna's existence news reaching less kind and more ambitious ears was very high."
"So, you assume there are traitors in the pack," Kyle comments, "that doesn't excuse you for what you did. You were able to communicate with me and say what you thought."
“My alpha, with all due respect, I cannot turn back the time, the decisions I made I cannot undo. I was scared for Bianca and acted to protect her. I still consider you my friend, but I know you have duties and I understand that."
"You will be judged, Maddox, there is no other way, you transgressed the pack's laws," Kyle replies, "I promise to be fair, as always, but I can't ignore this."
“I know, my alpha, I know. I would not expect anything else from you."
"Now, Kieran," says Kyle, "regarding what you were going to explain to me about Alanna, we can go to my office, you have a lot to say to Atea and me," he adds, and Kieran gives a resounding sigh.
"I guess so," he replies and asks Derrick to come over and whisper something in his ear. Then Kyle gets up from the table and we all do the same. We left the room. Kieran and his parents leave together, and the huge goons that guarded the door carry Richard down another hall, leaving Frans, Derrick, and me.
"This way," Derrick tells me, leading me upstairs to a room. As soon as I say goodbye to them, I take off my shoes and throw myself on the bed.
All the anguish that I have had during the last days suddenly attacks me and I start to cry, so much that when I finish, I fall surrender and fall asleep.
A loud scream wakes me up, but I still feel a little dizzy, so I don't open my eyes yet. "Reject her!" Says a female voice, which I think is Astrid. "Even if I wanted to, I can't, she hasn't been transformed yet, she doesn't even know what I am," Kieran replies annoyed. "And what will you do then?" She asks him, "are you going to leave me?" "I ... I don't know," he replies, "I still don't know what to do, Astrid." He pauses, there's a lot of tension in the air, so I close my eyes more. "Work it out, Kieran," Astrid adds, "she can't be your Luna, she doesn't know anything about the pack, and she doesn't even care about our world. I will always support you, I will know how to be a better Luna, this is my pack, I grew up here and I will do everything to carry it forward as you need. " "Astrid, we were playing around, you and me," he replies, "you are my father's delta, and we are close all the time," he insists, "we are not a couple, it w
"I look like a bitch," I tell Kieran in dislike, as we walk down the hall towards the stairs, to head to the main dining room where dinner will be served in my honor. Never liked to attract attention; it makes me nervous and clumsy, and it is the last thing I need at this moment with so many strange people. Werewolf. Hope Richard is present. It wouldn't hurt to see a familiar face, even if I'm still upset by all his lies. "Yes, but a beautiful bitch,'' he answers near to my ear, placing his hand on my bare back, by the neckline that reaches my black dress waist with three-quarter sleeves and whose pencil-shaped skirt covers the middle thigh. He is dressed in a black shirt with two buttons opens and rolled up on his arms, which draws all the muscles of his torso and arms. His pants are black too. His dark hair is stylish in a well-organized ponytail with gel. "A bitch is a bitch," I reply. His closeness makes me dizzy, and I can no longer be up
"Thank everyone for being here, but we must end the soiree," Kyle announces to everyone, then he looks at a few. while "Kieran, stay in your room with Bianca, have Derrick and Frans escort them. Atea, by my side, we must see each other as a united herd." "Yes, my alpha," they all answer, except me. "Kyle ... uh, sorry, alpha Kyle," I correct myself when I see the warning look, he gives me, "if you don't mind, I'd like to stay in the meeting. I think I will be of great help if you let me be there." "This world is too new for you, darling," he tells me with more kindness than I expected, "you won't know how to act in front of two alphas and I wouldn't want a confrontation with Einar today. I'd like to buy more time for you." "With all the respect you deserve, alpha, I think that if he listens to my opinion, it will be easier for you to convince him," I say, "don't worry, you have my word that I will behave and know how to measure up." "I'll be b
In the basement of the huge pack house is the dungeons. But they are not what I expected. The corridors are quite clean with good artificial lighting. The cells are like small rooms, with a bed and not a cot, a bathroom and a nightstand with a lamp and a shelf above the bed where you can put some books. Or at least that is Richard's cell, who placed the nightstand near the bars so that he could play cards with Velkan, who keeps him company. They both look at Kieran and me with raised eyebrows. Then I look at Richard carefully. His blue-gray eyes are very similar to mine, as are his chin and his cheekbones. His brown copper hair is similar to that of his brother, Maikan. Before I didn't pay attention to it, except occasionally when I accompanied him to the supermarket or to buy clothes, even on summer travels, some people would go with their children by the hand or play with them or simply smile with each other. In those moments I longed for Richard to really be my bl
I wake up to the sunlight coming through Kieran's bedroom window and the warmth emanating from his body. I try to free myself from his arms, but he squeezes me more. "Hi, sweetie, it's a nice day out there," he whispers in my ear and plants a kiss on my cheek. "It seems so," I answer and try to hide that I'm red as a tomato, "we'd better hurry, how does one go about getting some breakfast around here? We must be ready for the meeting with your father." He releases me from his embrace and growls, which makes me feel suddenly lonely. Then he goes to the bathroom, and I hear the shower. After a while, he comes out with a towel around his waist and his bare chest with drops spilling down his muscles and my mouth feels dry. Seeing that I'm looking at him, he laughs. "What?" He tells me with a crooked smile on his lips, "I look better now in the morning, right?" And for the first time I meet him, I don't know what to answer him. After gawking for a
The room where they had arranged everything for the dance in my honor is now a court, with a main table, two podiums, one next to the main table and one in front of it. There are also chairs arranged for the audience that is entering now. Kyle named his brother Ketin as his new delta, but it is temporary, because he oversees managing the pack's businesses, such as the Scarlet Moon clubs across the country, although I suspect which it's just a facade for his true work: espionage. So, at the head table, Kyle can be seen presiding over the court, with Kieran on his right hand, who is replacing Maikan because he cannot judge his own brother, Maddox. On the left hand is Ketin, conducting his first task as a delta. They have brought poor Richard from his cell and placed him on the podium next to the judges' table. Despite his worried face, he looks good and healthy. He looks in my direction and I smile at him to give him courage, but he nods to give me courage, too
Maikan moves over to the table presided over by the half-naked in his forties' man who rules the pack, and I can't help but fix my gaze on the muscles in his chest. "That man could be your father," I tell myself, but then I remember the man who was just kicked out of the room and my heart begins to ache. "I'll tell someone to bring dad a sweater," says Kieran, who sits next to me now, "all the she-wolves here are drooling," he adds, and I look away, "we don't want the case to be delayed, because mom comes to put them in their place, don't you think?" I clear my throat and lower my head as Kieran talks to Derrick and he brings the alpha clothes. It takes a few minutes before Astrid is brought to the podium. Her blonde hair looks a bit disheveled, and she has dark circles that make her look like a raccoon. "Silence, please," says Kyle who is now wearing a sweater, "we will initiate the trial of Astrid, the pack's former delta, who has committed high tre
"Come on, get up," Kieran takes my hands to stand me up and I feel as if till my hair hurts. We've been training in the pack house gym for an hour, and I still haven't struck a single hit. He dodges me and moves so fast, that I only see a blur before I feel the blow, "you have to pay attention to your opponent, anticipate his/her movements." "Anticipate?" I scoff, "if I can barely see you when you hit me." "You cannot see me?" He's amazed and he runs his hand over his head," but you're a wolf and you have alpha blood, so you should see my every move." "I've been a wolf for five days," I complain, "before that, I didn't have to hit anyone or worry about someone attacking me." "So, your life was very boring," he laughs, "I think we're going to start with something more basic, come on," he takes me by the hand and leads me to some mats in a gym secluded area, "here we can meditate." "What?" I say with a mischievous smile, "now you are going to be
My brain begins to come out of surprise and process what is happening. The familiar face makes me laugh with relief."God, Velkan!" My heart returns to normal mode, "I thought all of you were the scholars who came to get more blood samples.""We leave those sleeping in their laboratory," he replies, "although I'm not sure for how long, we drug them and close that pavilion from the inside, but the guards have other ways to enter, so go up quickly," he rushes us and I give way to my mother to climb, then the twins go, and I follow them to the end. Velkan looks at me with a frown and I look back at him, because I remember I am angry with him. He's on Kieran's side and he's the one who locked me in the room, to begin with! And he says he is my brother! When we're upstairs, I see that Frans is accompanying Velkan on what I assume is the rescue mission for my family, which Ketin must have armed. Frans nods his head to greet me."Do you really thin
"Are you okay?" the beautiful woman in her late thirties across from me asks. Her hands touch me shakily. Her smile is a bit shy and her touch is warmer than I could ever think. My mother. How long I thought that phrase was not allowed. It still feels weird. As an orphan, I suppressed even thinking about her, at least in the last five years, when I understood that I had to continue with my life without the presence of a mother. But, in those dreams that one cannot control, when you are totally relaxed sleeping soundly, I imagined myself with one of her, although in reality I only laughed with her and played that she did not catch me.It was when I woke up and thought they were nightmares because reality hit me and that dream only mocked me with desire and in the most blatant way possible. A mother was an illusion in an orphan's life. But now I found her, she's here and she's taking care of me."Yes," I reply, "I'm fine, thank you."“Bu
"So, you, me, him, Velkan, we're all wolves," he concludes, and I nod my head."And how did they catch you?" I ask him after I'm silent so he can assimilate everything I just told him."Well, I was with my mother and my sister, they're both beautiful, you know?" he tells me with a smile, but with some sadness, in her eyes "the girl is my half-sister, mom joined a banished wolf after my father left her and took me. When she found me she brought me to a community of outcasts, but life with them is very difficult and we heard that the Silver Pack accepted outcasts. But it was all a hoax and here I am."Where is your family now?" I ask him when I see that there is only him, me, and two other boys in the cell."My mother, her partner, and my sister were taken to the cells upstairs a while ago, along with ten others. Every other day they do the same thing. We have a week here, more or less" his voice cracks, "those who leave don't come back. I'm so scared, Bian
"Damn Kieran!" I yell as pound the door repeatedly in frustration. "I know you must be upset now, but everything has been for your good, Bianca," Velkan tells me from the door's another side. "Upset?" I scoff, "I'll show you what the meaning of that word is when I choke you with my bare hands." "Just don't try anything weird, like trying to climb the chimney or something," Velkan warns me, "I know you heal pretty quickly, but a three-story fall can kill you instantly." "Why don't you just walk away without saying anything, as Kieran did," I blurt out, "or better yet, ignore me and don't give me your face." "Yes, yes, I'm going," he says more calmly, "I just hope you understand that it's for your good." "For my good? don't mess me, Velkan!" I yell at him again, "you decided to lock me up like a dog, you didn't even give me a chance to explain my reasons." Velkan doesn't answer me again, instead, I hear his footsteps down the cor
When we left the party in the youth wing, we walk straight into the room and open the door in a hurry. We close it and he and I stay alone, which makes me swallow hard. "I don't think they'll invite us back to the youth area," I tell Kieran as he adjusts his torso to my back when he squeezes me around the waist with both hands. His head reclines in the gap between my neck and shoulder, sucking hard and making my legs feel suddenly weak. "You've got me so turned on," he whispers in my ear, spreading kisses down my neck that make my nipples harden. His hand sneaks between my pants looking for my center, causing me to sigh heavily. Then I smell his essence again, the one that was driving me crazy a while ago in the youth common room. I taste it on my tongue and swallow it, which makes me want to go crazy, so I turn and grab Kieran by the sweater and start to pull it off. He does the same with mine and we both throw ourselves on the bed. His hands are everywhere,
"I think I know what Einar is looking for," Richard tells me when I'm already sitting on one of the sofas in the room that he uses as an office, while he looks for one of the books, he was reviewing a moment ago and he hands it to me, "here it is." He opens the book and points to a paragraph, and I read. "Heal the blood, the blood of the strongest. In harmony it lies, in harmony submits. The strength of the blood rules the world." At first, I don't understand anything at all. Then I see it, the blood that heals is mine, "it speaks of my blood and the strongest blood." "That's right, the blood of an alpha," explains Richard, "but not just any alpha," he adds, "the strongest blood, it must speak of an alpha with a lineage of generations and Einar is," he tells me and I look like plates, "both Einar's father and mother have alpha blood, that makes him strong," he continues with his explanation, to my amazement, "but the next part is the one that worries me and t
Velkan's wounds are slowly recovering, as my blood takes its effect. The deadliest cuts have already been closed and he is left with only his torn shirt with the claws marks that attacked him. Now he is safe, on one of the sofas in the alpha's office, in his mate's arms, who does not stop crying with joy to know that he is going to recover. But that doesn't make me recover from the bombshell he just threw at me. For as long as I can remember, the idea of a mother was that an idea, not something real, something that I could even touch. Now I know that she is somewhere forgotten for so long. My mother is alive. I have two brothers. They are in a dungeon. My whole family is in a dungeon. My heart aches and weighs too much for something that I thought was lost. I have real siblings, not the ones my life at Richard's house gave me. Twins. Velkan recovers his color, and he looks much better, and we are all w
It's the third day of concentrated training that Kyle indicated. "Get up, again," Kieran tells me when he knocks me down again. I think he's done it like a thousand times today or that's what my muscles feel like. At least I can already see and hear his blows, but he doesn't hit just once, when I feel the first, the second hits right on target, "what? Did you already give up or what?" He challenges me and I get up and I look at him annoyed, "Your eyes don't hit, you have to use your fists, or your feet and I don't want any pouting me. It won't work when they come for you." "You're a fucking Nazi," I complain and my blood boils. This Kieran is nothing like the one he curls around my body when he wants to sleep. "Tell it to your father's henchman when he'll put you in a bag and take you because you defend yourself like a little girl," he snaps at me to anger me even more," now, come and hit me," his fists are ready to hit me with his blows, but I hear the air w
"She's already waking up," the 's Kieran voice says, who is holding me in his arms, right where Einar's men left me, "are you okay?" "I think so," I say, "have they already left?" "There's no one here," he answers me, "we returned because I heard you in my mind and assumed that something was wrong." "You have no idea," I point and tell him everything that happened, "after they left, I was scared to see my claws, my God!" My voice comes out in a thread, "I didn't know it could change in parts or that it could change before I was of legal age." Everyone present looks at me in amazement, some pass their hands over their heads, someone screams in astonishment and others put their hands to their mouths. "Try to calm down," he whispers in my ear, but his muscles tense, "you're safe now." "We are not fine!" Kyle explodes and he takes his cell phone, "he's going to listen to me," he goes to the garden's other side so he can talk. Maikan and Ke
