Chapter Seventy-Two: I Wouldn't

"Muaas."

Elaine drawled his name as if it offered her life. Each time she purred his name, she took a step toward him.

In his head, he took an equal one back, but...in reality, he hadn't moved.

"Don't."

He meant the words as a command, but again, they failed him.

"Muaas...please, I'm burning..."

The blood rushing in his veins turned furious; even his heart felt as if it would leap out of him. Her scent burned his skin, and the veins on his temple hummed. He wanted to pounce on her. But he couldn’t.

He would-

Before the promise even formed in his mind, his hand reached for her; it was pure instinct, one she did not resist—not that he would let her resist him.

Christ, she was cold to the touch, just the temperature his skin craved. But, If holding her felt this good, what about tasting her?

What would she taste like? Grapes? Chocolate? Roses?

He did not much care for flowers, but he loved the scent of roses in the crisp winter because that was what the training
