Chapter 21

Lucas' POV:

My heart sank as I heard her confession. I had always suspected that she had feelings for me, the way her body responded when I kissed her in my room says it all, but I never thought she would actually admit it. I knew that it was wrong for us to be together, not just because she was my step-sister, but also because I had no feelings for her.

"I'm sorry, Veronica," I said gently. "But I don't feel the same way. We can't be together like that."

"But Lucas, I love you," she pleaded.

"I know, but it's just not possible," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.

Veronica looked heartbroken, but I knew that I had to be honest with her.

"Lucas, please don't say that. I know it's complicated, but I can't help how I feel. I've loved you for so long," she pleaded, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Veronica, I'm sorry. I just don't feel the same way. You're my sister, and we can never be together," I said, trying to be firm but gentle.

Veronica looked away, trying to hide her tears.
