Veronica's POV:
I still feel awkward since last night after I kissed Lucas. I didn't know what force propelled me to kiss him but I did and to make matters worse, Beatrice saw it all happen. She didn't utter a single word as she escorted me back to my room. The silence felt uncomfortable so I decided to ask her for directions to Lucas' room. She pointed at the room down the hallway and I thanked her and bade her goodnight, after shutting my door.Strangely, I've not seen Beatrice again since last night's event and I couldn't help but wonder if she's okay."Good morning, my princess. What brings you here" Matilda said, standing straight with a cold, deadly stare in her eyes. She didn't genuflect or bow as others did. I just don't get why she doesn't like me."I'll be helping you with the pups from today onwards" I replied, acting unfazed by her disrespect."Huh? You?" She scoffed, stifling a burst of mocking laughter, "You're not even a werewolf so how'd you teach the pups how to shift" she added, daringly arching her brows."Well, I might not be able to shift but there are other things I can help with" I retorted. I'm not going to let this shrewd talk down on me."Oh, sure! You're welcome to join—" Matilda's statement was interrupted by the shrieking voice of Kate who was smiling broadly and coming in our direction."Good morning, my princess. It's such a pleasure to have your gracious presence here" Kate gushed over me, bowing down. Matilda looked at Kate in disgust and shook her head."Morning Kate, I'd like to meet the pups at the training ground," I said, smiling and exposing my upper set of teeth."Sure. Please follow my lead, my princess" She replied pointing in the right direction and taking the lead while I followed behind her closely. The pups at the training ground were so excited to see me. I love kids and even if I have no recollection of my past, I'm willing to create a new memory with these loving kids. "Get into your positions," I heard a familiar voice say. It was Matilda. As the pups slowly took to their various positions, I stood at the corner and watched. Cheering on some of the kids to lift their spirits. The training was intense and I slowly began to feel out of place. I can't shift into a werewolf so what was the essence of sitting here and watching kids learn how to shift to their wolf form. I decided it was best to take a stroll in the dense woods behind the training ground."Hey Kate, I'd like to take a little stroll. I'll be back later" I said, tapping on Kate's back."Alright. Make sure your phone's location is turned on and don't wander deep inside the woods" Kate warned, not raising her head to meet my gaze.As I walked in the woods, I couldn't help but admire the beautiful nature. The trees stood tall to each other as if they were an arranged set of brooms. I felt the soft breeze wash over my bare skin, enveloping me in its warm embrace. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. The feeling was refreshing and I began to wander deeper into the woods, hoping to see something that will help me recover my memories but nothing struck a chord.Exhausted from the long walk, I turned around and began heading back to the training ground. It was getting late and the sun was beginning to go down. I kept walking for hours but there was no sign of the training ground. It seemed as if I was walking around in circles. I became scared when I remembered that four werewolves were killed last night in the woods. "What will be my fate if the monster comes for me?" I thought to myself. I'm not a werewolf and I can't defend myself.Adrenaline rushed through my veins as I began to run, hoping to stumble upon the familiar sight of the training ground. My heart raced as I brought out my phone with shaky hands. My Dad gifted me a brand new iPhone 12 pro max as a welcome-back gift and he saved his number and mum's number as well. I quickly dialed my dad's number but it wasn't going through. My eyes flickered to the top right corner of the screen and I realized that there was no reception on the phone, probably because of the woods.Fear engulfed me as I began to run again. I could feel the tears swelling at the corners of my eyes. Will anyone notice my absence? Are the pack warriors searching for me now? How far away am I from the training ground?Tons of questions hung in my mind as I began to cry. "Help! Somebody help!" I yelled, hoping that someone would hear my voice and come to my rescue but all I got was an echo of my voice.Tears were beginning to effortlessly flow down my face and I let them flow. It was getting darker and the night was beginning to creep in slowly. "Is this how I'm going to die in the woods?" I thought to myself as I broke into another run. Almost immediately, I tripped over a stump and fell on my face. I felt a sharp pain in my left elbow as I tried to stand up. I bit on my lower lip, trying to stop a loud cry from escaping my mouth but something caught my attention. I saw a figure appear in the woods. It was dark so I couldn't make out the features of its face but the figure felt strikingly familiar. "Finally, someone was coming to my rescue," I thought out loud. I began to wave my right hand, hoping that the person will see me and come to my rescue but it seems as if the figure had other plans aside from helping a lost soul in the woods."Help m—" I instantly lost my voice in mid-sentence as I watched the figure transform into a huge creature on all fours. My eyes bulged in surprise and my heart began beating even faster. My whole body trembled in fright as the monstrous creature looked in my direction."No. God, please I don't want to die this way" I muttered under my breath. Ignoring the pain in my left elbow, I stood up and began to run again. I had no idea about where I was running to but I knew I had to get away from that monster as fast as I could. As I ran, I felt something closing in on me. The monster followed me closely gurgling with delight as I ran. It was as though it fed off my fear and anxiety.Suddenly, someone pulled me into his protective muscular arms and I heard a gunshot. Followed by another gunshot. The cologne smells familiar and as I raised my head to look at the face of my savior, I heard his deep voice ring "Keep your head down if you don't want a bullet to go through your brain".It was Lucas. His voice was cold, yet laced with warmth. I felt my heart flutter and I snuck comfortably into his arms, basking in the warmth it offered. His heartbeat was steady even as he kept firing bullets at the monstrous creature. After a few minutes, I heard receding footsteps. It probably belonged to the monster.Karen, Ethan, Jordan, and J'Cole appeared from the woods, firing bullets at the creature as they slowly walked in the direction of its footsteps but after a while, they all stopped. It was as if the mysterious creature disappeared into thin air."There's no footprint after this" J'Cole called out to the other pack warriors, pointing at a large footprint that was left in the soft earth."How on earth can something that huge suddenly vanish without a trace?" Ethan questioned rhetorically. Jordan who has been quiet all this while spoke for the first time."My princess, what were you doing in the woods by this time" his voice was rough.I became nervous as the five men stared down at me, waiting for answers."Uhh! I just came to take an evening stroll and I lost my way" I explained, fumbling with the edge of my gown."Please, don't wander into the woods next time. It's dangerous coupled with the fact that a wild creature is lurking in the woods and killing people. You could have been the next victim if not for Lucas' intervention" Jordan spoke sternly, his voice void of emotions."It's getting late. We have to get back to the palace," Karen said, tapping Jordan on the shoulder. We all turned around and began heading out of the woods but someone caught my hand, forcing me to stop in my tracks. I quickly turned around and my eyes met the gaze of Lucas. In one swift motion, he drew me into his arms in a warm hug. His scent engulfed my entire being and made me feel lightheaded. Our heartbeats synched like a rhyme and just immediately I closed my eyes so I bask in the euphoria that his hug offered, I felt his warm breath on my skin.He kissed the nape of my neck.Veronica's POV:The drive to the palace was excruciatingly silent and uncomfortable as everyone seemed to be lost in their own thoughts of what the creature actually was. We pulled up in front of the palace gate and the four-pack warriors alighted from the car."Goodnight and do take care of yourself, my princess," Karen said, bowing."Goodnight" I mumbled, forcing a fake smile as the four men walked away.Lucas hasn't spoken a word to me since we left the woods. I felt a tinge of sadness when he pulled up at the parking lot and quietly opened the door for me without uttering a single word. How do I explain that I'm beginning to develop feelings for this narcissistic and self-absorbed guy?As we walked towards the palace door silently, I couldn't help but wonder what was going on in his mind. His eyes were fixated on the door and his hands were stiff inside his side pockets. Lucas opened the door, announcing our safe arrival and instantly Malia flew to my side, touching every part of
Malia's POV:"Tyler, Why'd you consider making such a rash decision? There's a wild creature killing the members of our pack in the woods and all you can think about is giving power to Veronica?" I retorted sharply. I could see the color draining off his face as he stared at me in awe."And since when did you start calling me by my name?" He fired back provocatively."I'm sorry, my King" I replied softly, as I turned to meet his piercing gaze. "Let's get some sleep and discuss this tomorrow, alright?" I rubbed his arm tenderly, giving a soothing effect to his tense muscle."Aiit, Goodnight." He replied, kissing my temple and pulling me closer in his arms. His bare skin grazed over mine, leaving those familiar tingling sensations in the pit of my stomach. The only difference was that the sensation I felt now wasn't one of pleasure but one of fear.Everything was going just fine but now that Veronica resurfaced, I'm on the verge of losing everything that I'd built over the years. Elimin
Lucas POV:"Good morning mom. Morning grandma" I said as I made my way down the stairs. The two women froze in shock as though they just saw a ghost. My eyes darted from my mom to my grandma who was staring at me, guilt written all over their face.I threw my hands in the air in confusion, "mom, is everything alright?" I asked as I walked towards her and kissed her forehead. She shuddered at the touch of my lips on her skin."C'mon, what's wrong? You guys have been staring at me most awkwardly and it's making me cringe" I added, rubbing my skin and mimicking a cold shiver."Lucas did you—" my mom began but Chloe quickly interrupted, "Everything is fine my baby boy" Chloe snapped, eyeing my mom."I hope you had a good night's rest, my boy" she added, softly pinching my cheeks and smiling broadly. I knew something was wrong and they didn't want to let me in on it but who cares anyway. My mom and grandma are so close and share each other's secrets, leaving everyone in dark.As I walked u
Lucas POV:I pulled up at the training ground and walked to where the four pack warriors were. They were engrossed in what they were examining but their attention was disrupted immediately after they saw me coming."What did you find?" I said, drawing closer to the four men. Jordan held a neon light over what looked like a scratch on a tree branch."We found this bracelet along the foot tracks of the monster," Karen said, holding out a silver-toned bracelet."Nah, c'mon this could belong to anybody" I scoffed. "It might even be Veronica's or anyone who came into the woods a few days ago" "Yeah, we thought the same as well but look" J'cole interrupted, pointing at a footprint behind the tree that Jordan has been examining intently. There were footprints but not huge ones like that of a monster. It looked like the feminine footprint of someone who was trying to hide at the back of the tree because the toes dug deeper into the soil than the rest of the feet.I was still confused and sca
Veronica's POV:As I ran through the hallway, my heart raced wildly. I couldn't believe what just happened in Lucas's room a few minutes ago. He kissed me! Despite the happiness I felt, it just didn't sit right with me. He's my brother and even if I have no memories of him, I shouldn't be kissing someone I call brother. I was still lost in thoughts as my conscience fought with my wild hormones and emotions when I heard someone call out my name. It was the familiar voice of Beatrice."My lady, where have you been? I've searched for you all over the palace garden" she asked, concern etched on her face."I went running a little errand for the King", I smiled broadly. Beatrice stared at me with utter confusion. "You should've called for me. You're a princess, not a palace maid"."Don't worry, it wasn't much of a herculean task", I responded, flashing her a wide smile and patting her shoulders lightly."Hmmm, you're beaming with smiles tonight, my princess. Did anything spectacular happen
Lucas's POV:My heart raced wildly in fear as the forensic analyst dropped the bombshell. It took two weeks to get the results from the bracelet because in the course of the last two weeks, three successive murder has occurred and all the evidence gotten from the crime scene does not match anyone's fingerprint. It was as if the mysterious creature does not exist or he/she is pretty good at covering their tracks. But now that a fingerprint has been tied to Matilda, I became apprehensive. I haven't spoken with Matilda since the pay incident that occurred in her house and damn, I missed her like crazy. I stood up and quickly whispered to my dad's ear, taking permission to leave the meeting. With a nod of his head, I turned around and walked out of the meeting arena, ignoring the stares from the pack members.I drove to the forensic laboratory with a grim expression on my face, my palm was sweaty as I gripped the steering firmly, and anxiety churned in my gut."What is the update," I asked
Lucas POV:At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but as I focused harder, I realized that I was staring at a colossal monster. The creature towered over me, its hulking form covered in thick, matted fur. Its eyes glowed with an eerie red light, with massive razor-sharp claws that glinted menacingly in the dim light of the club.I could feel a shiver run down my spine as I tried to make sense of what I was seeing. Suddenly, the creature let out a deafening roar. That was when I knew that we were in for serious combat with this monstrous creature."Matilda, run into the club and don't come out till I call you", I whispered as I kept my eyes peeled on the monster."What? Are you going to fight this huge monster alone," Matilda argued. "Don't be in a hurry to forget that I'm a warrior," she added with an air of pride."M's please, I can't bear the guilt of seeing you get hurt. Just go inside, and I'll be fine. Okay?" As I spoke to Matilda, I could feel the creature's hot
Veronica's POV:As I stepped out of the hospital feeling weak, I heard a loud gunshot which made me freeze in my tracks. I quickly ran to where my driver stood and settled in the backseat of the plush car. Fear rocked the pit of my stomach as we drove back to the palace."Beatrice!" I screamed at the intercom as I walked into my room. "Beatrice, I need you to come to my room ASAP," I ordered on the intercom but I got no reply. Why was she always absent when I desperately needed someone to talk to?I took a quick bath and slipped on my nightwear. I felt nervous as the pictures of Lucas' sick and injured state flashed in my memory. "I really hope he survives this," I thought as I reached for the door and began walking down the stairs. The entire palace was eerily quiet. Chloe was tending to Malia– who had an asthma attack, immediately after the pack meeting last night. I made my way to the fridge to get a can of coke. I sipped the drink as my thoughts wandered around the recent happe
