Lucas' POV:
My heart raced even faster, and my hand trembled as I reached for the doorknob. My room was rarely lit up and a wild creature might be lurking in a dark corner of my room.I pushed the door open slowly, my eyes scanning the dark room for any sign of danger. That's when I saw her. Veronica, sitting on my bed, looking up at me with those big, beautiful brown eyes.My fear melted away instantly as I remembered how she had impulsively kissed me just a few hours ago. The memory of her soft lips on mine sent a shiver down my spine."Hey, Lucas," she said, her voice soft and sweet."Veronica," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. "What are you doing here?""I'm sorry for barging in like this, but I had to see you. I couldn't stop thinking about you after...well, you know", she said, her voice soft and husky.I felt my heart skip a beat as she stood up and walked towards me. I could smell the sweet scent of her perfume, and it made my head spin. Before I knew it, she was standing right in front of me, her hand fumbling with the edge of her pajamas nervously."Who showed you the way to my room?" I asked."Beatrice," she said, looking up at me with those enchanting beautiful eyes."Veronica, whatever happened outside there did not affect me and it meant absolutely nothing to me" I replied. "Now if you don't mind, I'll like to sleep. I've had a long night".I could see a crease appear on her forehead as she walked towards the door with mixed feelings of embarrassment and anger."Hey" I called out, making her freeze in her tracks, "Stop wandering around alone at night. There's a dangerous creature on the run and if you don't want to be its next victim, I'll advise you to stay in your room".Without a word, she nodded and walked out of the door. Immediately she left, the room suddenly became chilly as though her presence offered some form of warmth to the room. I took a deep breath and slumped on my bed. I didn't mind changing my clothes, I simply drifted off to sleep.I woke up the next morning as the rays of the sun hit my skin. The memories of last night came flooding back. I quickly changed into a comfy pair of joggers and headed downstairs. When I got to the dining table, I met my mom, Dad, Chloe, and Veronica having a breakfast of seared lamb with wild mushroom risotto. It was my dad's favorite."Good morning Dad, morning' mom," I said bowing briefly."Morning granny," I said, taking Chloe's hand and placing a warm kiss on it."Stop it, young man. You're making me feel old" Chloe said, chuckling like a teenager.Everyone laughed at my grandma's words. One of the palace servants drew out a chair beside my grandma and I settled down. Veronica sat just opposite my direction, smiling nervously as she picked on her food. We all ate in silence as I relished the savory flavor of the seared lamb."So, Veronica, what would you like to do? The role of a princess comes with heavy responsibilities and I believe that your lady-in-waiting gave you a detailed rundown of what you should do" My dad said, breaking the silence."Yeah, Beatrice told me about it" her voice rang melodiously like soothing music to the ear."I'd like to work in the nursery. I feel drawn to kids and I'll like to teach them and assist the pack warriors—" she said, smiling broadly."You're not even a werewolf. How do you intend on teaching the pups how to shift into their wolf form when you can't even shift" Chloe interrupted, giving Veronica a sly smile.Veronica's eyes quickly darted in my dad and mom's direction as if she was pleading for their defense."Chloe, allow the girl help in whatever way she can. Besides, you can't jump to a conclusion about her inability to shift" my dad retorted, eyeing my grandma. The duo has a lot of personality differences which always caused a rift between them."Dad, I'll have to get going now. I need to meet up with Karen and Ethan concerning last night's event" I said, standing up from where I sat. I knew my dad and grandma would soon start an endless argument and this was my opportunity to leave before the argument started. As I headed to the door, my dad's voice stopped me in my tracks."Lucas, why don't you drive Veronica to the training ground""Fuck! I don't want this", I thought to myself as I bit my lower lip in frustration."I don't think that will be necessary. I can find my way to the training ground, Beatrice can escort me there" Veronica said defensively. I bet she still felt awkward about last night and staying around me will make her more uncomfortable."I insist", my Dad spoke with a tone of finality. "Lucas, drive her to the training ground. You both should take some time to get to know each other and bond together as siblings"."Meet me at the car in 30 minutes" I cursed under my breath as I walked out of the door. The drive to the training ground was uncomfortably quiet. I tightly gripped the steering with a straight look on my face as I weaved in and out of the morning traffic. I got to the training ground and parked my car in a space. Stepping out of the car, I saw Matilda. On seeing me, she flashed me a wide smile and winked but almost immediately, a frown replaced the smile on her face as her eyes darted to the figure that stepped out of my car. It was Veronica. She was dressed in a simple white flair gown and a pair of black sneakers. She tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear as the wind blew softly. She looked gorgeous and fragile and I couldn't help but wonder why Matilda doesn't like her."Well, that's for them to sort out their invisible hate for each other," I thought to myself as I climbed back inside my car and zoomed off.Veronica's POV:I still feel awkward since last night after I kissed Lucas. I didn't know what force propelled me to kiss him but I did and to make matters worse, Beatrice saw it all happen. She didn't utter a single word as she escorted me back to my room. The silence felt uncomfortable so I decided to ask her for directions to Lucas' room. She pointed at the room down the hallway and I thanked her and bade her goodnight, after shutting my door.Strangely, I've not seen Beatrice again since last night's event and I couldn't help but wonder if she's okay."Good morning, my princess. What brings you here" Matilda said, standing straight with a cold, deadly stare in her eyes. She didn't genuflect or bow as others did. I just don't get why she doesn't like me."I'll be helping you with the pups from today onwards" I replied, acting unfazed by her disrespect."Huh? You?" She scoffed, stifling a burst of mocking laughter, "You're not even a werewolf so how'd you teach the pups how to shift
Veronica's POV:The drive to the palace was excruciatingly silent and uncomfortable as everyone seemed to be lost in their own thoughts of what the creature actually was. We pulled up in front of the palace gate and the four-pack warriors alighted from the car."Goodnight and do take care of yourself, my princess," Karen said, bowing."Goodnight" I mumbled, forcing a fake smile as the four men walked away.Lucas hasn't spoken a word to me since we left the woods. I felt a tinge of sadness when he pulled up at the parking lot and quietly opened the door for me without uttering a single word. How do I explain that I'm beginning to develop feelings for this narcissistic and self-absorbed guy?As we walked towards the palace door silently, I couldn't help but wonder what was going on in his mind. His eyes were fixated on the door and his hands were stiff inside his side pockets. Lucas opened the door, announcing our safe arrival and instantly Malia flew to my side, touching every part of
Malia's POV:"Tyler, Why'd you consider making such a rash decision? There's a wild creature killing the members of our pack in the woods and all you can think about is giving power to Veronica?" I retorted sharply. I could see the color draining off his face as he stared at me in awe."And since when did you start calling me by my name?" He fired back provocatively."I'm sorry, my King" I replied softly, as I turned to meet his piercing gaze. "Let's get some sleep and discuss this tomorrow, alright?" I rubbed his arm tenderly, giving a soothing effect to his tense muscle."Aiit, Goodnight." He replied, kissing my temple and pulling me closer in his arms. His bare skin grazed over mine, leaving those familiar tingling sensations in the pit of my stomach. The only difference was that the sensation I felt now wasn't one of pleasure but one of fear.Everything was going just fine but now that Veronica resurfaced, I'm on the verge of losing everything that I'd built over the years. Elimin
Lucas POV:"Good morning mom. Morning grandma" I said as I made my way down the stairs. The two women froze in shock as though they just saw a ghost. My eyes darted from my mom to my grandma who was staring at me, guilt written all over their face.I threw my hands in the air in confusion, "mom, is everything alright?" I asked as I walked towards her and kissed her forehead. She shuddered at the touch of my lips on her skin."C'mon, what's wrong? You guys have been staring at me most awkwardly and it's making me cringe" I added, rubbing my skin and mimicking a cold shiver."Lucas did you—" my mom began but Chloe quickly interrupted, "Everything is fine my baby boy" Chloe snapped, eyeing my mom."I hope you had a good night's rest, my boy" she added, softly pinching my cheeks and smiling broadly. I knew something was wrong and they didn't want to let me in on it but who cares anyway. My mom and grandma are so close and share each other's secrets, leaving everyone in dark.As I walked u
Lucas POV:I pulled up at the training ground and walked to where the four pack warriors were. They were engrossed in what they were examining but their attention was disrupted immediately after they saw me coming."What did you find?" I said, drawing closer to the four men. Jordan held a neon light over what looked like a scratch on a tree branch."We found this bracelet along the foot tracks of the monster," Karen said, holding out a silver-toned bracelet."Nah, c'mon this could belong to anybody" I scoffed. "It might even be Veronica's or anyone who came into the woods a few days ago" "Yeah, we thought the same as well but look" J'cole interrupted, pointing at a footprint behind the tree that Jordan has been examining intently. There were footprints but not huge ones like that of a monster. It looked like the feminine footprint of someone who was trying to hide at the back of the tree because the toes dug deeper into the soil than the rest of the feet.I was still confused and sca
Veronica's POV:As I ran through the hallway, my heart raced wildly. I couldn't believe what just happened in Lucas's room a few minutes ago. He kissed me! Despite the happiness I felt, it just didn't sit right with me. He's my brother and even if I have no memories of him, I shouldn't be kissing someone I call brother. I was still lost in thoughts as my conscience fought with my wild hormones and emotions when I heard someone call out my name. It was the familiar voice of Beatrice."My lady, where have you been? I've searched for you all over the palace garden" she asked, concern etched on her face."I went running a little errand for the King", I smiled broadly. Beatrice stared at me with utter confusion. "You should've called for me. You're a princess, not a palace maid"."Don't worry, it wasn't much of a herculean task", I responded, flashing her a wide smile and patting her shoulders lightly."Hmmm, you're beaming with smiles tonight, my princess. Did anything spectacular happen
Lucas's POV:My heart raced wildly in fear as the forensic analyst dropped the bombshell. It took two weeks to get the results from the bracelet because in the course of the last two weeks, three successive murder has occurred and all the evidence gotten from the crime scene does not match anyone's fingerprint. It was as if the mysterious creature does not exist or he/she is pretty good at covering their tracks. But now that a fingerprint has been tied to Matilda, I became apprehensive. I haven't spoken with Matilda since the pay incident that occurred in her house and damn, I missed her like crazy. I stood up and quickly whispered to my dad's ear, taking permission to leave the meeting. With a nod of his head, I turned around and walked out of the meeting arena, ignoring the stares from the pack members.I drove to the forensic laboratory with a grim expression on my face, my palm was sweaty as I gripped the steering firmly, and anxiety churned in my gut."What is the update," I asked
Lucas POV:At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but as I focused harder, I realized that I was staring at a colossal monster. The creature towered over me, its hulking form covered in thick, matted fur. Its eyes glowed with an eerie red light, with massive razor-sharp claws that glinted menacingly in the dim light of the club.I could feel a shiver run down my spine as I tried to make sense of what I was seeing. Suddenly, the creature let out a deafening roar. That was when I knew that we were in for serious combat with this monstrous creature."Matilda, run into the club and don't come out till I call you", I whispered as I kept my eyes peeled on the monster."What? Are you going to fight this huge monster alone," Matilda argued. "Don't be in a hurry to forget that I'm a warrior," she added with an air of pride."M's please, I can't bear the guilt of seeing you get hurt. Just go inside, and I'll be fine. Okay?" As I spoke to Matilda, I could feel the creature's hot
