"I'm Noah and these are my sons. It's a long story…we just need help" the man said with pleading eyes.
Alister stood there, his expression contorted into a frown as he listened to the man before him. The idea of offering asylum to strangers he knew nothing about was a foreign concept to him, especially since the council was supposed to be the ones responsible for assisting those in need. Why come to his pack when they could just go to the council? It didn't make any sense.
“ Then go to the council… that’s their job. To offer assistance…” he said, turning around to leave and ready to put an end to the conversation.
But before he could take more than a few steps, the man's voice stopped him in his tracks.
"Please," Noah said, desperation lacing his tone.
Alister hesitated for a moment before turning back around to face the three wolves. The man's words had piqued his curiosity, and he couldn't help but wonder why they were so insistent on seeking asylum with his pack and not many other packs they might have gone to.
"I would go to the council if I could, but I can't," the man continued, his eyes pleading. "My pack was slaughtered last night, and we've been on the run ever since."
Alister's eyes widened in shock as he processed the information. He had never heard of a rogue pack attacking and slaughtering an entire pack before. Though it was the practice of the old days, but an entire pack?
It was unheard of, and he couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for the two strangers before him.
"You've been on the run?" he asked, turning to face Elijah, his second in command. "Who's chasing you?"
"The rogue pack," the man replied. "Led by an Alpha."
This was not the first time Alister had ever heard of a rogue pack forming under the leadership of an Alpha. Rogues were usually loners, outcasts from their original packs. The fact that they had banded together under a new leader who they had accepted to lead them was concerning, to say the least.
Alister sighed, running a hand through his hair as he tried to process everything. He knew that allowing these wolves into his pack would be a risk, but he also knew that turning them away could mean their deaths.
Alister's mind was racing as he tried to make sense of the situation. The wolves in front of him had come seeking asylum in his pack, claiming that they were being chased by a rogue pack led by an alpha. Alister had never heard of this rogue pack before, but the urgency in the man's voice made it clear that this was a serious matter.
"Wait," Alister thought to himself as the reality of the situation began to sink in. "If they were chasing them, then it meant that this rogue pack could be at our border any moment from now."
He turned slowly to face Elijah, his second in command. The two of them shared a look, both of them realizing the danger they were in.
"Shit!" Elijah cursed, his face contorted into a scowl.
Alister took a deep breath, his mind racing as he tried to come up with a plan. He knew that they needed to increase security, and fast.
"I want every corner of our border to be guarded," he barked, his voice firm and commanding. "Increase security. Nobody comes in, nobody leaves. If you hear or smell anything strange, and I mean anything strange, you sound the alarm!"
The warriors who were present nodded, some of them shifting into their wolf forms as they prepared to carry out Alister's orders.
Alister turned to Matt, one of his most trusted advisor and head warrior. "I don't know about this, but we need to be ready," he said, his voice low and urgent. "Send word to the council and let them know what we have here. Might be facing a rogue attack soon, don't tell them about the visitor … yet…"
Matt nodded and quickly left to send the message to the council. Meanwhile, Alister turned back to Noah who was still on his knees.
He motioned for him to stand up. He wasn't going to send them away when he knew that they could be caught by the rogue pack.
But he also wasn't too keen on inviting them into his pack. He had no choice, though. He would have to place a guard with them to ensure that they didn't pose a threat.
"Alright," he said finally, turning to face the strangers. "We'll offer you asylum for the time being. But we'll need to discuss this with the rest of the pack before we make any permanent decisions, and I want you to tell me everything that happened."
The wolves nodded, relief evident on their faces.
"I'm sorry for what you've been through," he continued, his voice softening slightly. He couldn't imagine losing his pack in one night, his family.
"But I need to be sure that you're not a threat to my pack. I can't just invite you in without proper precautions."
The man and his companion nodded in understanding, but Alister could see the fear in their eyes. They were clearly terrified of being caught by the rogue pack.
"We'll place a guard with you," Alister said, "But you need to understand that we'll be watching you closely. And if you do anything to jeopardize the safety of my pack, you'll be out of here faster than you can blink."
The three wolves nodded again, grateful for the temporary sanctuary. Alister knew that this situation was far from over, but for now, he needed to focus on protecting his pack. They were in for a long night.
As Alister scanned the area, his acute sense of smell caught a distinct odor of blood. His instincts immediately kicked in, and he turned to look at the other two men standing behind him.
"Is anyone injured?" he asked, his voice laced with concern.
The man who had been kneeling in front of him, Noah, let out a sigh and nodded. "My eldest son... he was caught in his arm while fighting off one of the rogues who tried to harm his baby brother," he explained, his eyes filled with worry and fear.
Alister furrowed his brows, trying to make sense of the situation. "Baby brother?" he asked, confused. All he could see were grown men.
Just then, the other guy shifted, and Alister could see little feet poking out from behind him.
"Shit," he cursed under his breath.
"They've been with a kid all this while, and I didn't even know?" He murmured to Elijah.
As if on cue, the little boy came out from inside the other guy's black robe. He was a small child, no more than five or six years old, but he looked too petite for his age. Alister's heart went out to the boy, and he felt a sudden urge to protect him at all costs until he saw the boy's eyes.
Alister paused and sucked in air. The boy's eyes was all white. There was no mistaking it, he was a Seer.
Now everything made fucking sense. He flicked his gaze to the boy's father first and then back to the boy.
“ Elijah…” Alister whispered.
“ already on it…” Elijah nodded, quickly understanding the situation. He pulled out his phone and began dialing a number as he moved away from the group.
But before they could leave, the boy's father let out a cry of despair. "No!" he shouted, his eyes filled with tears. "I can't lose my son!"
Alister turned to face the man, his expression one of anger and frustration. "That was a bold move," he barked. "Not protecting him in the first place. What were you thinking? You should have sent him to the council the minute his eyes turned."
The man rubbed his face, his shoulders slumping in defeat. His son whimpered and buried his face in the other man's legs, seeking comfort and protection.
"I couldn't!" the man shouted back, his voice filled with pain and regret. "There was no way I was going to send my Omega son to the council."
Alister's blood boiled at the man's words. How could he be so foolish? Didn't he understand the danger his son was in? Didn't he know that the council was the only place where he could be protected?
He growled, the alpha in him taking over. He hated that this man was disrespecting him in his own pack grounds. He hated that a kid was placed in danger because his father couldn't do the right thing.
And then he heard it. The word that made everything fall into place. "Omega."
Did he just say Omega?
Alister froze, his mind reeling. He had always heard rumors about Omegas, but he had never encountered one before. He knew that they were rare, precious, and highly sought after by other packs. He also knew that they were delicate, vulnerable, and in need of constant protection.
He looked at the boy, his heart breaking at the sight of his fear and confusion. He knew that he needed to act fast if he wanted to keep him safe.
“ He’s an Omega?” Elijah asked, beating him to the question.
Noah nodded, moving backwards in a protective stance. He saw how the other two brothers moved too to protect the kid.
"Explain," Alister demanded, his voice cold and authoritative.
The man shifted uneasily, clearly uncomfortable with the sudden change in the alpha's demeanor. "My son is an Omega," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Alister felt his blood boil at the man's admission. "And you didn't tell me this before?" he snarled, his eyes flashing with anger.
The man cowered under Alister's piercing gaze, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "I was afraid," he muttered, his voice barely audible. "I didn't know how you would react."
"The council… you should still take him there…" Elijah muttered.
Noah sighed , “… it’s not safe for him there…it’s tough for a gamma or beta…my son. He wouldn’t have survived a day there…” the man explained.
Alister sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. He was fucking exhausted. He was not ready for this kind of mess.
“ Alister, we need to get them somewhere safe which is the council, at least the kid…” Elijah said touching his shoulders.
He growled. He could tell that his eyes flashed red because Elijah removed his hand in surrender. He was committing a crime by offering them asylum but one look at the whimpering kid made him remember Keita.
What if this was Keita, would he have turned them away. He brought Lucia into the pack the same way. But she wasn’t dangerous. This people were dangerous or perhaps were trouble waiting to happen.
Alister took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down. He knew that he couldn't afford to lose his temper, not now, not with a kid's life on the line.
"Listen," he said, his voice softening slightly. "I understand that you were scared. But hiding the truth from me was not the right thing to do. You put your son and everyone else in danger by trying to hide this."
The man nodded, his eyes downcast. "I know," he whispered. "I'm sorry."
Alister sighed and looked around, trying to figure out his next move. He knew that he couldn't leave the man and his family unprotected, not with the rogues lurking in the vicinity. He needed to act fast and decisively if he wanted to ensure their safety.
"please…” it was the injured guy that spoke.
Alister sighed and gave one final guilty look at Elijah who he knew was already mad at him for their little fight.
He knew that he had no choice but to take them all under his wing and offer them sanctuary in his pack. However, he also knew that he couldn't do it alone. He needed to place a guard with them, someone who could keep them safe while he dealt with the rogues and planned his next move.
With a heavy heart, Alister signaled to one of his pack members and asked him to watch over the man and his family. "Take them to the guest house… Make sure they are safe and comfortable," he instructed, his voice firm and authoritative.
The man nodded, relief visible in his eyes. He scooped up the boy, who clung to him like a lifeline, and followed the pack member, who was already leading the way. Alister watched them go, feeling a sense of unease settle in the pit of his stomach.
He had just taken in a potentially dangerous group, and he wasn't sure if it was the right decision. He knew that he would have to be extra vigilant from now on, and he couldn't let his guard down even for a moment. The safety of his pack was at stake, and he couldn't afford to make any mistakes.
He turned to Matt, who was walking back towards him.
“Keep an eye on them. I don't trust them,” he said, his voice low and serious.
Matt nodded, his expression grave. They both knew that this was a risky move, but Alister couldn't help but feel a sense of responsibility towards the young boy. He couldn't let him suffer the same fate as Anthony.
He turned to Elijah, "We need to talk."
Without waiting for a response, he led the way to the woods. The tension between them was palpable, and Alister knew he had to address the issue before it spiraled out of control.
"I know you're upset with me," Alister began, "but I couldn't turn them away. They needed our help."
Elijah looked at him with a mix of frustration and concern, "I understand that, but you're putting our pack in danger. We don't know who these people are, or what they're capable of."
"I know, and that's why I'm going to make sure we get all the information we need before we make any decisions," Alister replied, "We need to tread carefully, but we also can't abandon those who need our help."
Elijah let out a deep breath, "Okay, I hear you. But we need to be careful, and make sure we're not exposing our pack to unnecessary danger."
Alister nodded, "Agreed. Let's go back to the packhouse and figure out our next steps." They turned to leave but he placed a hand on Elijah, stopping him.
" …And no, this kid is not Anthony…" he murmured before walking away
Luciana's POVLuciana, who was sitting on the couch, observed the scene in front of her with great interest. Ophelia, her friend and fellow pack member, was cradling one of the babies who had been crying inconsolably until Ophelia took charge. She was amazed by how effortlessly Ophelia was able to soothe the little one. She had always been a natural caregiver, even though it's been long since she was a mother. Her son Elijah was no longer a child. The baby's cries slowly subsided as Ophelia rocked him gently in her arms. After a few minutes, the baby had calmed down completely and was now sleeping soundly.Ophelia carefully handed the baby back to his mother, who was grateful for the brief respite from the constant demands of motherhood.Ophelia then turned her attention to Lucia and asked, "How are you feeling?" as she sat down beside her on the couch. Lucia shifted her weight, trying to find a comfortable position while holding Keita, her own son. "Not exactly the kind of mating
Luciana's POV"I’m sorry… I get carried away sometimes…" Ophelia apologized for crying."No, you're allowed to remember him. You don't have to apologize," Luciana said kindly.Feeling grateful for her understanding, Ophelia sighed, "Well, I'm fine. I was just thinking that Alister would be glad to have Keita as his son. He loves the boy, you could see it in his eyes." She responded.Lucia was surprised to hear this and asked, "You think so?"Ophelia nodded, "Yes, absolutely. I've seen the way he looks at Keita since the day the kid was born and the way he looks at you since the day he brought you both into the pack. He loves you and damn well loves Keita too." She said.Luciana sighed, feeling a mix of relief and anxiety. She had been worried about how Alister would react to Keita, as he was not his biological son. She knew that he liked Keita, but to accept another man's child as his own son and future heir was a lot to ask, especially from an Alpha. She also worried about the rest o
Alister's POVAlister sat at his desk, his laptop screen open on the desk, as he spoke with Elder Wilson about a recent incident involving rogue wolves and the strangers he was currently helping. As he was deep in conversation, his beta Elijah entered the room, signaling that he had helped Lucia move into Alister's house. Alister couldn't help but feel guilty that he wasn't able to assist in the move due to being swamped with paperwork. He sighed, massaging his temples in frustration."I followed procedure here... they were being chased by rogues, there was no way I would have asked them to continue their journey to the council, for all we know, the rogue wolves might have followed them here…" Alister explained to the man whose face was on the screen, frustration evident in his voice. He couldn't help but feel responsible for the safety of those in his territory, and the thought of rogue wolves wreaking havoc sent shivers down his spine.Elder Wilson listened attentively on the other
Alister's POVAlister had been enjoying his peaceful slumber, wrapped in the warmth of his mate Lucia. He cherished the comfort she brought him, especially during the cold nights. However, the blaring sound of the pack alarm shattered his peaceful slumber, and he was instantly jolted awake. He had hoped that the night would go smoothly, just like the previous few nights when he had held Lucia close in his arms. Alister had never experienced such a luxurious and comforting feeling before, and he wanted to hold on to it for as long as possible, perhaps even for eternity.Lucia stirred beside him, groggily rubbing her eyes as she took note of his alarmed state. Concern etched her features as she asked "What's going on?" her voice laced with concern tooAlister quickly got out of bed, grabbing the closest pair of joggers he could find and putting them on. "I'm not sure," he replied, his voice grave. "But I'm about to find out."The night had started off with such passion and excitemen
Alister's POVAlister's heart was racing as he listened to Elijah's report. The thought of rogue wolves invading his pack's territory filled him with a sense of dread. He knew the danger they posed, not only to his pack but also to the innocent humans who lived in the nearby town. Alister had made a promise to keep them safe and he intended to keep it, no matter the cost.He knew that his pack's security measures were at their highest, with guards working around the clock and pulling double shifts to ensure that there were no loopholes in their defenses.Alister quickened his pace, running towards the East border with Elijah by his side. He tried to remain calm and collected, knowing that he had to keep his wits about him if he wanted to protect his pack. However, the thought of his people being in danger was almost too much to bear."How many of them?" he asked, his voice firm despite the anxiety creeping up on him."About twenty just crossed the East border. Don't know if there are
Alister's POVAlister took a deep breath and let it out slowly, his eyes scanning the darkness of the forest. He could feel the adrenaline pumping through his veins, making his heart race faster. In a blink of an eye, he shifted into his wolf form, feeling his muscles stretching and tensing as he changed. He shook himself to get rid of any lingering human thoughts, and then he started to run back to the front line, his wolf form easily keeping pace.As he reached the front of the line, he could see Elijah waiting for him, his body tensed and ready for action. Alister joined him, taking up an attack stance, his senses alert for any sign of danger.“Fall into formation everyone!” he commanded through the pack link, his voice ringing out loud and clear in the silent forest. He watched as the other wolves took up their positions, forming a defensive line around them.Alister felt a surge of pride as he looked at his pack, ready and willing to fight for their home and their families. He k
Alister's POVThen, disaster struck. One of the wolf's claws caught Alister's foreleg, digging deep into his flesh and causing him to cry out in pain. He could feel the venom from the wolf's claws coursing through his veins, threatening to weaken him further. But Alister was no ordinary wolf. With a deep growl, he released his Alpha toxin, a potent chemical cocktail that could neutralize even the deadliest poisons. As the toxin spread through his body, Alister felt a surge of strength returning to him. He seized the opportunity and launched a ferocious counterattack, striking the wolf with all his might. The beta fought back fiercely, but Alister was fueled by his determination to reach the rogue Alpha and put an end to this conflict once and for all.The wolf growled at him, attacking again. This time, he used the advantage of surprise and slashed the belly of the wolf with his claws, releasing alpha toxins into the wolf as he buried his teeth into the wolf’s neck. The wolf struggled
Luciana's POVAs soon as Alister left the house, Luciana's mind started to race. She had a nagging feeling that something was off, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was. Wanting to be near her son, she made her way to Keita's room and laid down beside him. She knew that waking him up was unnecessary, but her maternal instincts were in full swing. As Luciana lay there, she heard another alarm go off, and her frown deepened. "What could be going on?" she wondered. The fact that the alarm had gone off twice was even more concerning. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong, but she tried her best to keep calm and not wake up Keita.Just as she started to drift off, Keita stirred in his sleep, and she gently rubbed his back to soothe him. She didn't want him to sense her anxiety, so she put on a brave face and hoped that it was just a false alarm. However, her thoughts kept drifting to the pack of rogues that had attacked Noah's family. Alister had briefed
I year later The wind blew again, this time stronger than the first. Alister adjusted the thick fur cloak on Luciana’s shoulders and smiled as she buried her head in the crook of his arms. In her condition, she wasn’t supposed to be there but she was as stubborn as him. “Do you think she’s looking down on us and regretting what she did?" Luciana mumbled. Alister sighed; he knew that Ophelia regretted what she did and that was why she had killed herself, but he didn't know whether she had found peace in the afterlife. “I hope she found peace after all”, he mumbled. “ I miss her…the kids too” Luciana said. Alister nodded. He wouldn’t admit it, but he also missed her. He had forgiven her for what she did and would have loved it if Ophelia knew that she was forgiven. They stayed that way for a while before someone cleared their throat behind them. He knew who it was even before he turned to face the person. Elijah was standing there with a white rose in his hands, Ophelia’s favorit
Alister’s POVThe fight is in full force, and so far, the Black Moon pack seems to be holding their own. He looked around the fighting ground once again and couldn’t spot his uncle Helster. He knew his uncle’s wolf by now. If Helster’s wolf wasn’t on the battlefield, then where was he?A rogue charged at him, and he pounced on the wolf, tearing its spine away from its body and killing it instantly. The more Rogues they fight and kill, the more additional Rogues charge out of the woods. He saw Elijah finishing off another rogue, and his mind linked to him.“Helster is not here; why?”Elijah turned around and shifted into his human form. He ran back to where Alister was standing, already shifted into his human form.“I wouldn't want to believe that he’s hiding." Alister said.Elijah shook his head and said, “He wants the pack; he’s not hiding. I think he wants to sneak into the pack from another border. Catch us unawares." he said.Just then, as Alister wanted to respond, Peter’s
Luciana’s POVElder Haruto is dead. Wilson had said to her last night after he had returned to his house. He was now the head of the council and would preside over their case. She felt relieved that things were indeed working in their favor.Luciana shifted in her chair. She was waiting for their case to be called, like every other person who was there. She looked around, trying to see if Alpha Reed was already there, but she didn’t see him.Maybe it was a good thing that they would meet inside and not out in the open, she didn't know if she could control herself if she saw him out there in the open.“Black Velvet Pack!" a werewolf standing by the door called. She saw an Alpha stand up and walk into the room where the hearing was being held. Their case was the next one; she had seen the order earlier when Wilson had spoken to her.She pulled the folder out and held it firmly on her lap. The future of their pack depended on her, and as much as she had been the one who had caused all th
Alister’s POVIt was hard. Knowing that his mate was somewhere in the council, doing what he was supposed to be doing, was hard. It had been hard letting her go, and even now, he had to restrict himself from entering a car and driving to the council." Daddy… I want to pee." Keita said, tapping his leg.Alister rolled his eyes, looking down at the boy. “You just did that like five minutes ago”, he mumbled.Keita frowned. “I know, but I still want to go. Mom would be upset if I peed on myself,” he said, pouting his lips.Alister shook his head. Either Keita was missing his mother and didn’t know how to communicate his feelings, or he was trying to be difficult and frustrate him. He suspected it was both.“Fine, let’s go”, he said, picking Keita up. The moment he moved to leave, Omar jumped up from the chair and followed them. Alister sighed. It was going to be hard trying to pull Omar away from him when the time came to defend the pack, and Luciana was not yet back.Thankfully, the re
Reed’s POVReed arrived at the council the next morning. He could feel his victory, and that gave him the confidence to enter the council building. He still had time before the hearing, so he decided to pay a visit to Veronica, his mother. Her office was not far from the academy. He climbed the stairs and walked down the hallway until he got to her door.He knocked twice and waited for her response before pushing the door open and entering the small office. His mother was sitting behind her desk, and she looked like she had never aged since he last saw her.Veronica lifted her head and the surprise on her face was obvious. He didn't blame her for being shocked at him standing in her office; he too would be shocked if he were in her position.Growing up, they never had the best mother-son relationship. She was more like a figure who was just there beside his father. He hated her for that—for not loving him like every other mother loved their children. She pulled the glasses off her fac
Luciana’s POVLuciana closed the zipper of her luggage with a sigh. She was ready to leave, but her heart couldn’t bear to see them all as she was leaving. She could hear the different voices gathered in her living room to bid her goodbye. She sighed and dragged her luggage out of the room, walking down the stairs.“Oh Lucia." Ophelia mumbled, coming up to her to envelope her in a huge hug. Luciana buried herself in the hug.It wasn’t that she was going away from the council for long. Hell, she was just going to be gone for two or three days, so she didn't understand why they were all acting like she was going to be gone for a year.“Take care of yourself and my boys,” she muttered close to Ophelia’s ears.Ophelia nodded her head and released her. “I will. Stay safe,” she said, taking the luggage from Luciana and carrying it outside towards the waiting car.Alister was the next one to come up to her. He was holding Omar, who had refused to let him go and was clinging to him.“You can
Reed’s POVReed was restless. That was the only word sufficient to describe his state of mind and how he was feeling right now. He hated when things were not within his control. He sighed, dragging his fingers through his hair for the umpteenth time as he paced in front of his desk. A few more days and he would get his heart's desire—the land he had desired for years—and even though it was now within reach, he hated the fact that it was not within his control.Helster was coordinating everything, and the rogue Alpha had warned him to stay put until he gave the command. He checked the time, and as if in sync, someone knocked on his door. He took a deep breath and waited.“ Come in," he answered. The door opened, and a man entered his office, closing the door behind him. Just the person he had been waiting for.“You're late…" Reed fired. The man sighed. “I'm sorry, Alpha, it took a great deal of trying to navigate my way to your pack and to avoid being noticed,” he replied.Reed rolled
Luciana's POVShe recoiled in shock. Even though there was a possibility that Alister must have told Elijah about Alpha Reed, she didn’t think he would tell Elijah about Keita’s real father too.Elijah shook his head and said, “I deduced it myself. Don’t think Alister told me. The day Alpha Reed visited the pack, on his way out, he bumped into Keita,” he said.Luciana felt her heart race as her breath hitched. What? Alpha Reed had met Keita. No one told her that. She felt angry that she had not been there to protect Keita from the Alpha.A different kind of fear enveloped her as she thought of Alpha Reed discovering Keita's true identity. He wouldn’t have noticed that Keita was his son, right? She looked at Elijah, noticing now that her eyes were blurry.“He didn't...” she started to ask, but Elijah reassured her by shaking his head."no, I didn't let him touch Keita. However, he noticed how their scents were familiar. Everything started to make sense then. why you would hide the lett
Luciana’s POVIt was at the break of dawn when Luciana left her home in search of the one person who could help her achieve her goal. She had not bothered discussing her decision with Alister that morning; she already knew what he was going to say to her.She was not surprised when she entered the office building and saw people already on the ground floor. They were preparing for an attack, and everyone was on alert. She strolled up the stairs to the alpha’s office floor and gently closed the gap between Alister’s office and Elijah’s office. She could see light coming out from under Elijah’s door and knew immediately that the beta was around.Luciana gently knocked on the door, and when she heard a grunted reply, she turned the handle and entered the office.Elijah was currently sitting behind his desk and had not looked up at her since she entered. She walked over to the front of his desk and stood there. When it was clear that he was busy with what he was doing, she cleared her thro
