Chapter 3

Penulis: Island
The peace did not last long.

Olivia stormed into the room and threw a stack of papers in my face. "How much longer were you planning to keep this from me? The reports say the rogues ruined you—you'll never be able to bear children! End your mate bond with Anthony immediately!"

I turned to Anthony. I was baffled that he had gone to such lengths to trick me into getting pregnant, yet he had not even bothered to coordinate his lies with his mother.

Anthony immediately pulled me behind him. "Which pack doctor has been spreading this nonsense? Sophia is perfectly fine—we will have children."

Olivia's glare burned into me. "I'll give you one year. If you don't conceive by then, I'll have the werewolf court dissolve your bond myself!"

After she left, Anthony sat beside me, brushing his fingers against my cheek. "Don't cry. I promise I won't let them separate us—we'll have a healthy pup."

I lowered my head; I said nothing. I knew what they wanted. They were all trying to force me to have a child—but for different reasons.

Since the Alpha King, Andrew Amadeus, was away, Olivia had appointed Anthony and Emma to host the Hunting Festival.

As for me? Olivia shoved me toward the kitchen, where the hunters had just delivered their kills.

She said, "You can help in the back. You look so sickly. I don't want our honored guests to be disgusted by the sight of you!"

Emma clung to Anthony's arm as they walked away, her voice light with amusement. She asked, "What did those rogues do to Sophia? Even the strongest female warrior in the pack is now infertile. Do you think she was in pain? Because I heard some of the wolves saying Sophia actually looked like she was enjoying herself."

...

Outside, the festival was in full swing. The warriors were being honored, the alliances that provided funding for the pack were being praised, and the politicians who had shaped the pack's future were being celebrated.

Meanwhile, I was in the kitchen, gutting the festival's game like a servant. By the time the full moon set and the festival ended, my body ached with exhaustion.

I wiped the blood off my hands and went to find Anthony. After all, I could not leave the castle without him.

Even though I had been his mate for a year, his family never accepted me. As I walked toward the guest wing, I heard a voice from inside the room.

Emma said, "Whenever you're drunk, you can't keep your hands to yourself. It's a good thing Andrew isn't home."

Anthony's voice was hoarse, thick with emotion. "Emma, I've only ever dreamed of walking into the Hunting Festival with you on my arm. Do you know what my mother said?

"She told me to break my mate bond with Sophia. I wanted to say yes—I almost said yes. But I didn't because I was afraid."

"Afraid of what?" Emma asked, her voice soft.

Anthony admitted, saying, "Afraid that Andrew would want her again. He had chased her for years. He even gave her the world's largest ruby. That's when I knew—he never let go of her."

I froze. Andrew had once given me a ruby, but he had taken it back and given it to Emma.

Through the window, I saw Anthony reach into his pocket. He pulled a sapphire from it. "I found this for you. It's even rarer than that ruby."

His voice was filled with adoration as he asked, "My Luna, may I sketch you?"

I had been through so much that this did not hurt me anymore—I was numb.

I had begged Anthony to draw me, but he never even picked up his pencil. Yet, here he was, pleading for Emma to be his muse.

Emma stood, slowly undoing the straps of her dress, letting it slide off her body until she wore nothing but the sapphire hanging from her neck. Then, she lay back on the couch, her posture languid, seductive, and effortless.

Her skin was so flawless that she did not have a single mark on her body. Meanwhile, I was the total opposite—I did not have a single patch of smooth skin left.

Anthony knelt before her, reverent, kissing her face over and over.

Emma wrapped her arms around his waist, pressing her body against his. "I'm sorry, Anthony. I've put you through so much pain."

Anthony shook his head, eyes burning with devotion. "I don't care. I love you. Just being able to have this and to love you in the dark—is enough for me."

Over and over, my mind replayed every moment I had spent with Anthony. The way he would grab me, force my face into the pillows as he took me.

It finally dawned on me that he had never been thinking about me. I was so stunned that I could barely stand. My legs gave out, and I slid down the wall, my body trembling.

Inside the room, Emma sighed, brushing a hand through Anthony's hair. "What was it like being with Sophia?"

Anthony's answer was low, almost a whisper. "Like being poisoned with wolfsbane."

I could not listen anymore and staggered away, crawling out of the hallway. I had never felt more broken and worthless.

I had tried to escape last night, but they caught me and treated me like an intruder, driving silver spikes into my body.I knew this was Emma's doing. Since I resigned from the Werewolf Security Bureau, she had taken my position and now controlled the castle's security.Wolves feared silver—if the spikes were not removed in time, the poison would spread through my bloodstream, killing me.I had already decided to leave, to let her have everything she wanted. Why would she not let me go?Emma pretended to help me up, and I could smell Anthony's scent all over her.She asked, "Why were you trying to sneak out, Sophia? Were you hoping to meet with some rogue lovers? It's been a while since Anthony touched you, right?"Her fingers brushed my hair as she leaned closer. Anthony Amadeus' POVWhen Sophia ignored my mind-link messages, a strange panic crawled up my spine. She had always feared abandonment, so she listened to everything I said. Yet, she had just refused my offer to take her on a trip.I shot to my feet and stormed toward the door, thinking, 'That damn woman! I must've spoiled her too much! I've already apologized, yet she has the nerve to give me the silent treatment!'Just then, Emma called out from behind me, her voice laced with fear. "Anthony, where are you going? I'm scared! Don't leave me here alone!"Annoyance prickled at me. After all, it was just a tiny scrape on her head—nothing serious. When Sophia's wounds festered and the rotting flesh had to be cut away, she still managed to smile at me, her voice trembling as she reassured me by saying, "It just looks bad. It doesn't hurt that much."Then again, I had loved Emma for so many years, so I left two of my men behind to watch over her.I sped through the roads, my car tear

Suddenly, I realized I had seen the document before. Right before the Hunting Festival, I had watched Sophia hide it away. However, I had been too confident, too distracted by the thought of finally seeing Emma again, to care about whatever Sophia was up to back then. Now, her signature was there in black ink—she had officially requested to sever our mate bond.A searing pain tore through my chest, spreading to every place where she had once marked me. It felt like I was burning alive from the inside out.My legs gave out, and I collapsed to my knees. That was when I noticed a wooden keepsake box tucked beneath the desk—the one where I had stored all my sketches of Emma. When I saw that it had been opened, my blood ran ice-cold. I thought, 'Did Sophia see everything inside?'With trembling hands, I lifted the lid. Every sketch held the same haunting truth—I had written down my thoughts on each drawing.[Dear Emma, you look so beautiful in a wedding dress. However, I could only wa

Sophia Hughes' POVI felt nothing but pain. My chest still ached, and the burning sensation from the silver spike lingered deep in my flesh.I barely furrowed my brows, yet the werewolves around me immediately turned their attention toward me."Does it still hurt?"I recognized the man who spoke—Kent Lycan, Alpha King of the Shadow Moon Pack.Three years ago, I saved his life. He had offered me a place in his pack with an irresistible deal, but I had refused—I could never betray my family or my mate. At least, not unless they betrayed me first.I mumbled, "Sorry, I'm too weak right now. I don't think I can be much help to you."Kent shrugged. "Once a warrior, always a warrior. You just need time."I tried to sit up, and he reached out to steady me, but I instinctively flinched away. "Sorry…"Kent, of course, knew about my past. Anthony arrived with his warriors, sending the remaining rogues of Wild Nest scattering in fear. He walked toward me slowly, his expression one of disbelief."Sophia, it's really you. I'm not dreaming, am I?"He had lost a lot of weight, and the madness in his eyes replaced the calm, gentlemanly demeanor he once had.Instinctively, I stepped back, raising my silver gun and aiming it at his chest. "Leave. Or die."His voice wavered. "Sophia, do you really hate me that much? I know I'm in the wrong. I don't love Emma anymore. I know you saw my sketches of her, but that's in the past now. Every day now, I draw only you. Just give me a chance—I'll spend my whole life making it up to you."I let out a cold laugh and pulled the trigger, and the silver bullet grazed his cheek. My voice shook with rage as I hissed, saying, "Does that erase what you did to me? I trusted you with everything I had, and you betrayed me in the worst way!"You let those rogues violate me, torture me. You didn'

Sophia Hughes' POVI stood outside the door, hating for the first time how sharp a wolf's hearing was—I could hear every word of their conversation as if they were speaking right next to me."Anthony, are you really going to let Sophia get pregnant? The pack's doctor said carrying a child could put her life at risk."Anthony's voice softened when he mentioned my stepsister, Emma Hughes. "I don't want Sophia to get pregnant either, but Emma is afraid of the pain and refuses to have children. Sophia is her sister—what's wrong with her carrying a child for Emma?"His subordinate hesitated. "The Elders say a wolf guards her den with tooth and claw. How are we supposed to convince Sophia to give up her baby for Emma?"Anthony's answer was calm and calculated. "She was assaulted by rogues and severely injured. Well, if she births a stillborn, no one will question it. As soon as the child is born, tell her it died, and I will personally hand the baby to Emma.""But Sophia will break… Sh
