Avery's povI sat in front of a mirror and I stared at my reflection. My long white hair was perfectly combed and it cascaded down my back like a waterfall, I sometimes found myself marvelling at how lustrous it was.I wore a long red gown and a pair of gold-coloured shoes. I wore a necklace, a bracelet and a ring all with the same design; a golden frame with pieces of rubies. It was a gift from my mother.I smiled as I touched the necklace, I looked beautiful. I used no makeup and the red of my dress and jewelry perfectly complimented my eyes. I had wanted to wear a black dress instead but my mother was firmly against it. She said it made me seem a bit malevolent and that will make it hard for me to find a mate.I was surprised at how she knew I was going to use this coronation ball as a means to find a mate. I looked away from the mirror towards the window and I sighed. I was especially restless tonight for some reason.I stood up and walked out of the room but I didn't head for the
Lucien's POV I arrived at the ball at the normal time. The ball has started already but not so long ago that I was late. I wore a black suit and coat with as minimal jewellery as possible. I did not want to look gloomy but I looked best in all black and tonight, I wanted to look nothing but my best.I entered the ballroom with my aura reined in, a lot of people didn't even notice me as I walked in. I was here with Esme but she was nowhere to be found. Ever since she awakened, she had that habit of just vanishing and appearing exactly when she was needed.I had trained with her these past days to learn how to blend in because apparently, she wasn't vanishing. She was around, she was just almost unnoticeable.I looked around, the ballroom was nice and dope. It was in a massive hall and there was a massive chandelier at the centre. It looked to be made of diamonds, it was stunning. I looked from the musicians to the dressing of the guests, it seemed like Avery's father loved old school.
Devon's pov I stood there with my eyes wide open and my mouth hanging, she was stunning. I had arrived not long ago and I was about to enter the hall when I saw Avery and Isabella. What a shitty timing. Donovan had told me to arrive late for the sake of making an entrance but I know people wouldn't even look in my direction. They were both stunning even though I didn't want to admit it because of Isabella. But it was totally worth it. Avery was so beautiful and I couldn't help but smile at the thought that she would soon be my Luna. Donovan had told me to play it cool today and that he would work going out from the background.Wow, what a shitty timing. I sighed as I waited outside the ball, I had arrived just as Avery and Isabella had opened the door. I had wanted to join them but I decided against it. Moreover, I didn't want to be anywhere near Isabella. How the hell were the both of them holding hands after everything that happened?I waited as the audience gawked at them, the ent
Lucien's POV I watched as Avery walked in and headed towards her parents. I smiled, she was perfect in every way possible. I took another glass of champagne, I wanted to approach her but I didn't.It would be stupid of me to interrupt her time with her parents, moreover, I felt like it wasn't time just yet. My intuition was telling me to enjoy the place a bit. I had a feeling something might happen tonight.I moved into another area to have a taste of the champagne there when I was bumped into by someone. I ignored the person, after all, it was pretty normal to be bumped into in events like this but the person grabbed my shoulder and I felt ticked.I turned around and I was surprised to see that it was Devon.“Lucien,” he said in a low tone,I looked at him and my aura unknowingly leaked out. I didn't know why, maybe it was because of our past or what had happened between him and Avery but I felt angry all of a sudden and it became hard to restrain my aura.I felt myself getting even
Avery's povI looked around the hall, the ball was going pretty great. The drinks were amazing and the music was fantastic. I was really impressed and apparently, this was all my mother's work. I was stuck between praising my mother and laughing at my father for his nonexistent taste in…. Everything.I walked around the hall making small conversations. I approached a group of people that were talking about the champagne and I greeted them,“Hi, I wanted to thank you all for coming. It means a lot to me.” I said with a smile. They all smiled back and they looked stunned. I tried to stay around to have a casual chat with them but they ended up just talking about me and I had to leave with the excuse of greeting others.I repeated the same thing again and again as I greeted as many guests as possible. I caught my parents looking at me with wide obnoxious smiles on their faces and I blushed. Didn't they know that they looked creepy? But as much as I was happy, I was also a bit sad. I hadn
Devon's pov I looked around but Lucien was nowhere to be found and I felt shivers down my spine at the thought of what it meant. He was stronger now, way stronger and I had obviously underestimated him.I began walking around, trying to be as normal as possible but that seemed almost impossible to do because as much as I hated to admit it, I was afraid of Lucien.Whenever I thought I had calmed myself down, I would remember that gaze and that aura and I would find myself trembling involuntarily. I had to meet Donovan, I had to tell him about what happened and I had to warn him.I looked around and then I headed for the bathroom. I looked in every stall to make sure that they were all empty, and then I entered the stall at the end. I sat in the water closet as I tried to calm myself down.“I take it you've met Lucien.” I heard a voice say. It was obscure and strange but I knew it was Donovan that was speaking. He really was a mysterious man, he had so many tricks up his sleeve and he
Lucien's POVWe danced round and round and I felt myself sinking deeper into her, our souls were connected and we were one, just like that night under the moonlight. It was perfect.I stared into Avery's eyes, her white eyelashes gently fluttering as we moved, her ruby-red eyes staring into mine and reflecting mine. It was enchanting and I wanted the moment to last forever.I had my hands in her and hers in mine and we were the only ones present. The world had gone quiet and we were dancing to the melody of the moon goddess. We danced and danced around like the moon and the sun, like yin and Yang. We were an eternal couple.Or so I thought until we were pulled out of our trance by that familiar voice. At first, we hadn't paid attention to it but it had drifted into my ears and I had stopped the dance even though I was unwilling.“Excuse me!!! Lady Avery, will you marry me?!” the voice had said and I had never heard a sentence more foul. I looked towards the speaker and just as I had t
Avery's pov Lucien stared into my eyes, as we danced round and round. His electric blue eyes were glowing in a familiar light and they looked ethereal. I was entranced and I felt myself connecting with his soul.I didn't want this feeling, I hated the fact that I had to feel this way because we were mates, after all, there was no other explanation for this. I wanted to break off, to stop the dance but I couldn't, instead I found myself sinking deeper and deeper into the feeling. It was wonderful. For the first time, I didn't need to be so strong, I felt like I could share all of my burdens and I could finally let go. I felt free. I never even knew I had been feeling suffocated by all that had been going on.I stared into Lucien's eyes and for a moment, I couldn't help but imagine what it would be like to be able to feel this way forever. Maybe I should just take him as my mate? But I couldn't trust him, or could I?I was lost and confused and I didn't know what to do so instead, I de
