Avery's povI stood by the window as I gazed out into the garden, I was worried about Isabella. It had been three days now and there were still no signs of roan anywhere. We didn't know why Donovan had taken roan or when, for all we knew he could have had nothing to do with it.But I found that hard to believe, we might not know why but it's just a matter of time. I wasn't worried about Roan, for an ordinary beta he was exceptionally skilled in fighting but I was worried about Isabella.Isabella wouldn't be thinking that he was good at fighting, she would be thinking that the love of life was in mortal danger and that he was probably already dead.I sighed as I looked out the window, we had another meeting today. I messaged my waist and shoulder, and even with what happened, my mother continued our training. Isabella had been consuming herself in the fights, it was obvious she was trying very hard to get her mind off it.I walked to the bathroom and I turned in the shower. The warm wa
Devon's povI moved through the forest, the trees passing by me in a blur. I swerved and moved with agility behind my reasoning. I had been pushing my body to its limit in the last week for this reason, to possess agility that made me as slippery as an eel in the midst of a terrain like this.Werewolves that were very fast lacked agility, we are more speed oriented and we mean more towards the strength side. So I made myself different. I knew I didn't have the insane speed others had, I was very fast, faster than most but not those that mattered.I looked beside me as Lucien dashed past me, he was insanely fast but he hadn't been able to catch me. We've been in this case for hours now and although I knew that he wouldn't be able to catch me now, that didn't mean he wouldn't be able to forever. It Was getting tiring and I had to save my strength for what was to come. I couldn't afford to get weak now, I had to do something fast.“Is this the best you can do? I can't believe you are hav
Lucien's POVI stood above the cliff and I watched as Devon plunged into the river. I didn't know what he was thinking but I knew that he definitely had a way out. I stood there for a while but he didn't float back up. A figure appeared beside me,“What do you think?”“He's not being used, or at least he thinks he is not being used.”“Do you believe he's not being used?”“No, he's been used, but…. He's also using Donovan. They know that they are using each other and now they are in a battle of wits.”“That's a good thing right?”“Not in this situation. We are currently hunting them both, this battle between them will bring about a lot of side effects that would most likely not be good for us.”“I see. Like hunting two wild animals. Their battle will alert a lot of other dangers and it will set off a chain loop of unexpected events.”“yes. They are very smart and they'll use that to their advantage. Right now, we are being manipulated by two different minds.”“So what now?”“We follow
Devon's povMy eyes narrowed as I noticed the figure coming behind us. It was Lucien. How was he here? I had left him behind at the cliff and he should have gone to look for Avery.Avery shouldn't have been at the castle and he shouldn't have been able to know that Avery was here. But most of all, why was he coming after us and not trying to rescue Avery? This was bad, either way, he would be affecting my plans and I needed to stop him.“Speed up!!!” I yelled at the elder and he pressed on the turtle. The vehicle zoomed off and we began to leave Lucien behind but then he howled and shifted partially. My eyes widened as I saw his tiny figure slowly becoming larger and larger. As he got closer, I could see his face and I felt my heart skip a beat. He looked like a monster, his face was scrunched up and he had hair protruding from his body. His eyes were red and his sclera was black, he was like a humanoid beast and I could feel the aura and strength he was exuding. This was bad, this is
Lucien's POVI chased after the speeding van, and as I slowly caught up to it, it sped up even more. My eyes narrowed, I was in a time crunch, I had to get that boy to safety fast before Aasimar totally lost his mind. I knew Avery was strong but I didn't think she was strong enough to hold back Aasimar for long.I transformed although partially, I didn't want to rip my clothes and a partial transformation should be enough to catch up to the vehicle. I sped up and I slowly caught up to them, I could see Devon's eyes looking at me through the side mirror. His eyes widened when he saw me but I paid no mind. As soon as I was within range, I hit the van and sent it tumbling. I knew that a tumbling of this amount couldn't injure a werewolf even if it was only a child.I approached the upside-down van to get the boy but the elders began to come out of it. My eyes narrowed at them, these fools. Even if Devon was stupid, I didn't expect these elders to be. They knew well what Aasimar was capab
Lucien's POVI rushed towards the boy with wide eyes, he staggered backwards with his hands around his neck. Blood poured out of it and he slumped backwards, I caught him and placed my hand on his neck. He was a werewolf and all I had to do was apply pressure and stop the bleeding long enough for him to heal but for some reason he wasn't healing and he seemed to have noticed it.I picked him up and I began rushing towards Aasimar, he must know what to do, maybe their blood was different. But as I rushed, the bit seemed to get more lifeless. His eyes were wide at first but now they were normal and tear-filled.“I… I… dad….” He struggled to say but I shushed him, he couldn't die, I couldn't let him die. He was still young and he had so much ahead of him and he wasn't even to be blamed for any of the things that happened.“Shhh,... I'll get you to your father, don't worry. I'll get you there, just hang on.” I said.I ran even faster, I didn't want to transform because he might get tilted
Isabella's POVA few hours ago.I followed after Lady Nightshade as we moved through the forest, we hurried towards the location that Donovan had been tracked to. We didn't use any vehicles for fear of alerting the enemies and only three other betas followed us. They were very skilled fighters, Lady Nightshade had picked the best among them for this mission. There were three locations obtained from lady nightshades deduction and it was sure that one of them would be a trap but no one knew which one. I didn't really care which was a trap as far as one of the three groups that were sent out found roan. For this hunt, the Crescent Valley pack had gone all out. Three groups of their best fighter were sent out including the alpha and his Luna, we were going to catch Donovan and make him pay.We had been running for a while now and I could see that the other three were a bit fatigued. I was too and only lady Nightshade seemed to be fine. I was worried, I had been having the nagging feeling
Isabella's POVI was bleeding all over, my muscles were sore and my throat was dry. All around me were dead werewolves but there were still many more, they seemed to be never-ending and Donovan sat and watched as we were getting exhausted to death.Lady Nightshade was surrounded by five werewolves, she had killed almost twenty of them and I would have been in awe of her killing so many powerful foes but I was too tired to think.I just kept on swinging my sword again and again. The remaining two werewolves that had come with us were already dead and we—lady Nightshade and I— were the only ones left. Time was moving fast and my eyes were filled with despair as Roan's death came closer and closer but all through it whenever I looked at him he seemed to be smiling at me, telling me it was okay.I fought harder and harder, I fought more than I had ever done for anyone before and yet it wasn't enough. I watched as time slipped from both of us while Donovan smiled and laughed at our despair
