Chapter 40

The rain is falling, the cold fogs my vision. The clouds are dark and intimidating, enveloping the world like a thick blanket. A shivering figure is huddled outside, head and arms covered by a thin jacket.

Without a moment's more hesitation, I flung open the door, hastily pushing the person inside. I could tell it was a girl, because she was wearing a knee-length dress, rather low-cut and very fashionable.

"What's your name?" I ask her softly. She doesn't answer, clutching her soaked jacket with long, sharp nails. "Would you like me to take this and wash it?" I gesture to the jacket. She remains silent, unmoving.

I move my hand toward the jacket, but she finally speaks, stopping me with her voice. "Where is Xavier?" she asks softly, "I need to see him." All the while, she keeps her head down, as if she's afraid of my gaze. Water trickles down her bare skin, soaking the carpet beneath her feet.
