Chapter 11

It had been close to a quarter of an hour already. He continued to speak to them in a very calm manner, and with his eyes cast downward, he would frequently steal glances at me that caused shivers to run down my spine.

I was concerned that he might have looked into my identification already. The individuals with whom he was conversing appeared to be more human-like. In the human world, of course, I also possessed an identity of my own.

What if he already knows that information about it? I didn't give a damn about myself, but if I got caught, it would mean that the quest for my mother was a bust. I brought my palm up to my lips and started biting down on my fingernails with my teeth in an effort to calm my racing heart and steady my nerves. I kept my eyes fixated on the ground as the various possibilities of my pointless thoughts continued to torment me.

"Why do you have that look on your face?"
