Irina
I SMACKED MY mother’s shoulder when she commented on the black SUV parked outside our house! My father raised a brow and commented that our neighbours were going to think we were part of the mob and I rolled my eyes sighing! Great! My parents were already teasing the older man who asked me out on a date after only seeing me one time!
Hunter held out his arm and I carefully slipped my hand into it as we walked down the steps toward the car. The same young man in black jeans and pristine white shirt opened the back door and I thanked him before slipping into the back. I noted another young man dressed similarly behind the wheel and introduced myself. Wow! All of them were gorgeous! Hunter jumped in beside me and the car pulled out into the road.
“That is Eli, my driver and Liam is my be… My bodyguard.” Hunter introduced us, but I got the feeling they already knew who I was. We arrived at the only fancy restaurant in town and I had to smile. It was where everybody had their proper first dates or celebrated their anniversaries. Most birthdays, people celebrated at the pub, but when it was a really big one, the older people preferred to celebrate here.
“Hunter! How lovely to see you! I have your table ready.” Emily kissed both his cheeks, but I could see that he didn’t like it as he pulled back slightly before she showed us to our table. This was going to be far more interesting than I thought and I smiled when Hunter pulled the chair out for me and Emily raised a brow.
“So, a little birdie told me that it was your birthday the other night.” Hunter pulled a small box from his jacket pocket and I was just about to tell him that it wasn’t necessary when he stopped me and told me to open it. I gasped as I opened the box and two diamond earrings stared back at me.
“Hunter! This is too much!” I gasped and was about to hand it back to him when he took one out and carefully put it on for me. When he touched my ear, I felt a shock run through my body and I quickly put the other earring in myself. “They are very beautiful, thank you.” I smiled just as our waiter appeared and Hunter ordered champagne.
I breathed in deeply, thinking that this would be the perfect dream date, if I was to be swept off my feet by someone with money. My friends would probably kill me for even thinking of leaving, but all of this was so much! I felt as if I had landed in someone else’s dream!
“So, tell me about yourself. Are you going to college or university?” Hunter sat back looking happy with himself and I shrugged.
“No.” We hardly knew each other. I couldn’t very well tell him I wasn’t going because my parents couldn’t afford it. “Melanie offered me a permanent job at the flower shop.” I shrugged and smiled. “What do you do for a living?” The waiter showed up with our champagne and we ordered our food. He actually looked impressed that I ordered fries with my steak. He probably thought I didn’t hear him, and I didn’t say anything. We made some more small talk until our food arrived.
In between, we would ask each other the odd silly question like what is your favourite colour or sports team, but none of it was really in depth. It was a lot better than I thought it would be. It was pretty easy to talk to him even if we were just talking about the small stuff. He laughed and it hit me right in that spot it did when I saw him for the first time. There was something there! There had to be for him to ask me out on a date. He asked me if I wanted dessert and I grinned.
“Only if you share it with me.” I tilted my head to one side and breathed deeply. His lips parted slightly as I bit down on my bottom lip. The tension between us built instantly and I wasn’t entirely sure why.
“Tell me, have you ever had a boyfriend?” Amusement danced around in his eyes and I rolled mine. It was an incredibly personal question, but for some reason I wasn’t offended when he asked.
“No, why? Are you planning on being my first?” My eyes grew wide as I realized what I had just asked him and things between us became unbearably tense in an instant again. It was meant to come out as a joke, but his eyes suddenly had something else in them. Was it … It couldn’t be! Was he lusting after me? “Because I don’t date ancient guys, you know.” I focused on my glass of water in the hopes that just looking at it would cool me down! What the hell was I doing?!
“That is very good to know, since I’m not ancient or old. I’m Thirty-two.” He grinned and I wanted to roll my eyes, but I found myself laughing.
“Will you let me borrow those two of yours, then I can finally be twenty!” I burst out laughing and was relieved to find that he found it funny as well. Especially since it wasn’t funny at all! The man was fourteen years older than me! This had to be our first and only date. There had to be something wrong with a man of his age wanting to date a girl who was fresh out of school!
Desert arrived and we shared it and when we were done, he paid the bill and our escorts were outside patiently waiting. They drove us home and I wasn’t entirely sure what to say in the car, so it was a very quiet drive home. Hunter walked me to the door and left a soft kiss on my cheek before walking back to the car. He was just about to get in when he turned to look at me.
“I have a meeting tomorrow night, but can I pick you up the day after? Say around nine.” He scratched the back of his head and I nodded. I hadn’t even checked my calendar, but it didn’t matter. I would move whatever I had to so that I could see him again!
IrinaTHE TIME SEEMED TO SLOW DOWN each time I looked at the watch. I couldn’t believe that I was actually excited about this date with Hunter. I should have been disgusted that an old guy was interested in me, yet I found myself daydreaming about his smile and the way he looked at me.When the time finally came to go to bed, I found myself staring out of my window. It was a clear night and the wind softly blew, making my curtains float as if they were a veil of some sort. We were right in the middle of summer and the days were humid and far too hot, but the nights were just absolutely gorgeous. When I looked at the time, it was already two in the morning and I still hadn’t slept a wink! If I was going to make it through my date without falling asleep, I seriously needed to get some sleep. I made my way downstairs to grab some warm milk and met my mother in the kitchen.“Can’t sleep?” She smiled and winked and I nodded.“Yeah,” I sighed. I had a lot on my mind. So much that I didn’t e
Irina“Two steaks medium rare …” I sat there blinking at Hunter. After we had been shown to our table, he simply ordered for the both of us without so much as a look my way to find out if I wanted something different. I wasn’t entirely sure how to feel about it. We were on a date and I didn’t want to cause a scene. I also didn’t want him thinking he could just decide for me. I waited until the waitress left and then glared at him.“Are you going to cut my steak for me as well?” I frowned as my heart pounded in my chest. I knew I was probably overreacting, but he could at least have asked if I wanted something different. A little laugh escaped between his lips, accentuating their fullness and making me slightly gasp for my breath. As I felt my panties growing a little wet! My only saving grace was that he couldn’t possibly know! What the hell was happening to me? What was he doing to me? I cleared my throat and noted a slight smile on his lips right before he took a sip of wine.“So, t
IrinaAs expected, my parents were waiting to hear all the details, but I didn’t want to talk to them about it. Not yet. My mind was all over the place and so were my emotions and I didn’t want to cry in front of them. It would just upset them, and they would probably tell me not to go out with Hunter again. I said good night and went up to my room to try and figure out what it was that I was feeling.More importantly, what I thought about our date. I spent all night tossing and turning and by morning, I was bone tired. I knew the moment I walked into the kitchen my parents would want to know how our date went and I still didn’t know what to tell them. I had to make sure that whatever it was, it wasn’t bad.“It wasn’t bad.” I tried to smile, but I was just too tired to fake it.“Then why did I hear you tossing all night, sweetheart?” My mother was a very light sleeper and I should have known my creaky bed would wake her.“It was a normal date, I guess.” I sighed, shrugging. The cereal
HunterSEEING HER UP ON THAT STAGE, affected me more than I thought it would. As Alpha, it was my duty to be there for our students who graduated. They went through a really tough time during high school. They didn’t shift in front of humans, and our secret was safe. She looked so damn sweet and innocent in her pink dress that my pants were pulling tightly and it was making it difficult to focus on anything else. I took only a moment to congratulate the three wolves before finding her in the crowd. Before I could help myself, I made my way through the crowd and slipped my arm around her waist. She noticed me while she was making her speech, and it almost seemed as though she was trying to get away from me right now. Her eyes filled with shock as I pulled her a little closer.“Great speech.” I winked, but for some odd reason fury flashed in her eyes.“Don’t. I’m the world's worst public speaker.” Her delicate hands twisted together so tightly that her knuckles turned white as she scann
IrinaI walked into the house feeling as if I was floating! It was so weird! He was weird. His people were just … Weird! Okay, so it didn’t look as though they were some kind of cult. He hadn’t mentioned anything like that. I told my parents about the date and then rushed upstairs. I was actually happy! My mind is filled with memories of our time together and I can actually imagine us having a future. It was far too soon to be feeling this way, wasn’t it? I frowned as I looked at myself in the mirror. It wasn’t. My parents always told me how their eyes met and they instantly fell in love. They were high school sweethearts and had been together ever since. Why couldn’t I have something similar, or the same? I fell on my bed and thought about Hunter and what the future could look like if we did stay together.I closed my eyes and imagined myself living with him and his group of people in the forest. They all lived in wooden cabins. They sat around huge bonfires and sang songs and had hu
HunterI didn’t even realize that humans could go into heat! I didn’t care what her parents would think, and as I walked into the hospital waiting area, I realized how incredibly stupid I had been! I arranged for guards all throughout the hospital to protect my mate from any unwanted attention, and in the process drew attention from the humans.“How is she doing?” I forced myself to focus on her parents, who were looking too distraught to worry about how I heard about it and what I was doing there. Her mother explained that the doctors were still trying to figure out what was wrong with her. I nodded and called our doctor through the pack link. I wasn’t sure if he would be able to help, but at least he knew what Irina needed during heat.Thankfully, it wasn’t a life-threatening disease, but I couldn’t very well tell her parents that. Everything in me was screaming for me to go to her, but I didn’t dare. I couldn’t take the chance. If I did, I knew there would be no way I would be able
HunterWE HAD BEEN UP ALL NIGHT, fighting all the intruders. Some weren’t even rogues! By the time morning came, I breathed a deep sigh. They didn’t come so thick and fast during the daytime. I finally walked into the hospital to get a report on Irina when I noticed her mother sitting alone in the waiting room crying. I took a seat beside her and felt awful when she apologized for crying.“There is no need to apologize.” I patted her hand while she wiped her tears.“I try not to cry in front of her father. We just can’t lose our girl.” Irina’s mother was looking very pale.“Have you eaten anything? Can I get you anything?” I was worried about her. Irina would be shattered if anything happened to her mother. They were a very tight family. It was going to make things a little tough when we became mates. I hadn’t figured out how I could accept her yet. Hell, I wasn’t even sure if I should. It could upset the very delicate balance there was between us and humans.“Would you like to see he
IrinaMY THROAT FELT incredibly dry and my eyes were feeling puffy. I slowly opened my eyes and tried to focus. I saw a figure standing near the window, but my throat was too dry to say anything. I could see I was in a hospital room, which was strange.“Oh, Irina!” My mother’s voice forced its way through my muddled thoughts. “Are you thirsty? The doctor said you might be thirsty when you wake up. Oh, honey we were so worried!” My mother gushed and the figure near the window turned around to look at me. My father was right there beside my mom, and I blinked. Hunter! Hunter had been standing near the window. I took a sip of water and it burned as it ran down my throat.“What happened?” My voice sounded hoarse and I tried to clear my throat while my parents took turns explaining what happened. I got some mysterious fever, but Hunter’s doctor saved my life. That was about the gist of what they were saying. I couldn’t understand it. From what I can remember, I didn’t feel sick. Hunter exc
