HERO POV

Silence,

Silence was what filled the car except for the sound of the moving car. Little dolphin didn't say a word during the car ride, and she didn't object to my command of bringing her along with me. Her face was completely blank as my men drove us to my hotel. It was a twenty minutes ride____ Tarrant idea, Incase I didn't show up to the ball.

My phone was buzzing like crazy, but I ignored it. Someone would distract Tarrant eventually. I wasn't sure why I felt compelled to bring the little dolphin along. Maybe it was an excuse to avoid going in, but it didn't take long to hear what had really gone down. Weston was planning to claim a Luna, and it wasn't, little dolphin right here.

Don't get me wrong.

She was lovely, petite for a wolf, with a small heart shaped face and a nice hair length but there was no other indication that she spent much time in the sun or outdoors. Her skin looked soft, creamy and smooth.

She was gorgeous but that wasn't the reason why I had brought her with me. Normally, I’m always surrounded by gorgeous women, they parade in front of me in hopes that I might succumb to one of them, or that a mating bond might spike my interest but none of that happened. I enjoyed women, but none of them had affected me quite like her.

Fuck___I hate admitting.

And I didn't even know why I felt this way towards her. Maybe it was the fear in her eyes, tugging on my wolf’s need to protect her. Maybe it was thinking that if she kept running around in her torn dress and exposed skin, the other male wolves starved for sex would tear her apart.

A private elevator finally brought us up to the penthouse. Her hands were still wrapped around her body, keeping her dress up. Inside me, my wolf wouldn't stop growling. We had both seen the bruises at her back. I had assumed they were from Weston’s hands.

Maybe the little dolphin likes it rough, but neither I nor my wolf loved seeing it. I didn't like her marks or to know that she had felt pain, even if she did want it. I didn't want to think of her with Weston either.

That was something strange. I didn't usually care about women’s sexual past but something intrigued me when it was about her.

"So, what's your name?" I asked, finally breaking the awkward silence that had settled between us.

"Zara," she replied, her voice soft.

“Zara, do you know why I brought you here?”

“It's clearly not hard to figure out.” Her hands dropped and the top of her dress fell to the floor, revealing a gorgeous pair of tits, creamy, round with rosy pink nipples, perfect to fill a man’s hands. She stared at me defiantly, and I nearly rumbled in approval.

Instead, I smiled. “You and I know that I don't have a dress to replace that one, so I don't think you can return back to the ball, but you don't have to keep wearing that all night long.”

A puzzled look crossed her face, and I crossed the room to the closet. Tarrant had complained that it was a bad look when my one night stands stumbled home in the clothes they were wearing the night before, so I had my hotel room stocked with some clothes.

I found a pair of comfy jeans and t shirt that looked like they would fit her just perfectly. Tossing them on the bed, I turned my back. “Drink?”

“Pardon?”

“Would you like a drink?” I spoke slowly and succinctly and let my eyes drift to the mirror on the wall. It didn't surprise me when her gaze met mine. She had yet to change. “What your taste, liquor, wine, soda?”

“Just wine, would do.” Turning, she grabbed the t-shirt and pulled it over her before letting the dress fall to the floor. I averted my gaze and made two drinks, when I turned, she still hadn't put on the jeans.

The shirt skimmed the tops of her creamy thighs, prompting questions in my mind. It was the middle of autumn. Most of the wolves around spent a lot of time in the cold.

I stared at her comfortably.

I honestly hadn't brought her here to fuck her, just to rescue the injured little dolphin and let her go, but how could I do that when she keeps walking around half naked, I had a hard time averting my gaze. There was a strange look in her eyes as it roamed over me.

‘Open interest?’ I can't seem to tell because when I caught her eyes, she quickly looked away.

Slavish,

Submissive.

My wolf continued to stir inside me. His interest was quite difficult to ignore, but then, my own interests were also difficult to slide away. I reminded myself once again that I hadn't brought her here to fuck her, but that didn't stop the images from conjuring themselves in my mind.

What would she do if I ordered her to spread her legs and give me a peek between those lovely thighs? If I skimmed my hands over her skin to see if she was as smooth as she looked.

I cleared my throat and handed her the wine. I cocked an eyebrow when she gulped the entire content at once before coughing.

“How old are you?”

“Twenty three. Can I have another refilled glass?”

I tipped my own glass back and took hers.

“Maybe in a little bit. If you want, you can put your pants on. I would have my men drive you somewhere.”

“Wait, let me get this straight. You honestly brought me here just so I could have my ripped clothes changed?” She asked suspiciously.

“I guess so, I also wanted to give you a chance to grieve on your rejection and mend your broken heart,” I responded with a shrug. “I saved you from embarrassment. You had quite a scene tonight, I would expect a wolf to get stronger rather than run in tears over a tiny broken heart. Tell me, what kind of wolf are you?”

“A push over princess,_” she muttered, and then laughed at her own private joke before she cleared her throat. “So, you decided to play a hero or a prince charming who came to save her princess?”

At that, I snorted. “Believe me, princess, I'm none of that shit.”

“Well, you can't call me a wolf with a broken heart just because I got humiliated.” She uttered with a strange look in her eyes. I knew something was in her mind, something she just couldn't shake off.

Broken,

That's exactly what she was, a wolf who had been broken completely. She had a strange reaction for a scorned woman who professed to not have a broken heart.

“So, what are you?”

Rather than answering my question, she walked towards the window of my penthouse. “What do I do now, I'm not really familiar with the area. Where do you think I should go?”

I wanted to demand an answer instantly because I was not used to being ignored, but also because she was a puzzle mystery, and I didn't like mysteries.

Instead, I reminded myself of the task at hand. the sooner I finished my meeting with the alphas here, the sooner I could leave. “Home.” I spat out sipping from my cup.

Her face went instantly pale. “I can't do that. I...I need to breathe and think.”

“Breathing and thinking might be easier if you decide to put your jeans on.”

Her gaze slid my way. “You don't know much about women, do you? No one thinks easier with their fucking jeans on.”

“And what are you thinking about?”

“That it's finally over,” she whispered so quietly that I amost didn't hear it. “Wait, you really brought me here so I can clean my self up? No other weird reason?”

“Is that so difficult to believe?” I questioned.

“I see the way you keep looking at me.”

At that I smiled briefly, “I have good intentions, but that doesn't mean I'm a robot or a dead man. I can't help but to appreciate something beautiful when I see it.”

HERO POVShe cleared her throat, a delicate sound that seemed to echo in the otherwise silent room. Her gaze, previously fixed on the flickering flames of the fireplace, now turned towards me. "Why were you outside the hotel?" she asked, her voice a soft, yet insistent whisperThe question hung heavy in the air, a silent accusation. I gave her a small smile before finally breaking the silence. “You ask a lot of questions, little dolphin.” Her captivating eyes widened a little. “What, little dolphin?”“I would have said you look pathetic, like a beaten dog but that honestly doesn't describe you.” I paused and stared at her.“Instead, you seem little, helpless, and more like an injured dolphin.” I waited to see if she would perhaps defend herself, but she just nodded her head a little, like she agreed. Was she so submissive that she couldn't even speak up for herself?“I think I'm just trying to perhaps find out, I suppose. Was that a poor choice of words or a bad question to ask?” "N

"But then again, I don't know much about packs from outside our borders. I've never been one to socialise with outsiders."I stared at her, letting a sliver of my power seep into the air. Nearly thirty alphas were gathered tonight for Weston's celebration. If she truly believed she would be his Luna, she should have familiarised herself with the other guests. She would have known that I would be there. "Damn it," I muttered to myself, frustration gnawing at me. I'd let myself get sidetracked, completely captivated by her. It was baffling how she could remain so oblivious to my true identity. I couldn't help but study her, trying to piece together the puzzle. It was as if she was shrouded in a mist,

Through the dense fog, I could just make out the trees swaying and parting, a dark, ominous shape emerging from the mist.Suddenly, a wolf burst through the flames, landing with a loud thud in the middle of the fire. "Boston!" I yelled, shocked and scared. I rushed over and grabbed his paws, pulling him out of the fiery pit. I frantically tried to beat out the flames licking at his fur. Boston groaned in pain, his eyes squeezed shut."He's not dead yet," I rasped to Tabitha, my voice barely audible over the roaring inferno. My palms throbbed with pain as the flames licked at them. With a grunt, I ripped off my shirt and used it to smother the fire. The crashing sound outside grew louder, echoing through the smoke-filled room. The silence stretched out, a heavy blanket settling over the clearing. No other wolv

ZARA POVWe spent eleven long hours climbing the mountain, but we didn't see a single wolf. As soon as we reached the top and stopped, I changed back into human form and shivered from the cold. My wolf self was enjoying her freedom a little too much, and I was struggling to keep her under control.Tabitha shifted with me as we got dressed. Pulling the cream from my backpack, she pointed at my knees. "I think your knee is starting to hurt again, isn't it? You should have let him just dislocate it so it could heal properly.”I plopped down on the worn wooden log, the rough bark biting into my skin. As I settled in, I took the cool cream and rubbed it into my sore, aching knees. "Said by a woman who's never been under the hands of a man," I muttered, a wry smile playing on my lips. The warmth of the cream began to seep into my joints, easing the tension. A sigh escaped my lips as the pain started to subside. She waved us over. "Kristina, Zara," she introduced, "I'd like you to meet Jenny, our very own tree experts.”"Tree expert?" I repeated, my eyebrows raising in surprise. "You're a doctor for trees?" I shook the young blonde's hand, my grip firm. "That's...quite an unusual profession.”“That’s exactly right,” she laughs. “I keep an eye on them and help out when I can. It’s a shame, really. This old oak tree probably won’t be around much longer. You see those new shoots growing out of the trunk? That’s a sign that it’s not doing well. And all those leaves on the ground? Any lingering jealousy I might have felt about her presence in Hero's bed vanished instantly.“Do we have a problem, Kristina?” I asked warily as I sat up."It's just that you're female," she sighed, her breath misting in the cold air as she continued to hone the blade in her hand. Of course he knew just what to say to make me go with exactly what he wanted. Wolves of great strength could take power, but it took intelligence and manipulation to keep it. “I already told you, my wolf and I don't have a connection. I've tried everything, but my wolf and I aren't compatible by any means. It's like we're from different worlds.”“I don't understand. Can you break that down for me?" he asked."It's pretty simple, really. People say you can talk to your wolf form when you're human. But I can't do that. I can't talk to her when I'm a wolf, either. She can't reach out to me. I try my best to control her, to speak to her but she won't even respond.”Hero's reaction to the revelation was unexpected. Instead of confusion or horror, he simply studied me with a thoughtful expression. His lips pursed as he pondered the implications. "Boo

HERO POVWhen we got there, we saw Boston and Tarrant arguing over where to sleep. There were two places to stay: one for the wolves and one for the humans. Kristina seemed to be in charge of making the final decision, and I thought she was right to have picked this particular spot for us.The cabins were much easier to protect than the wolf dens. They were sturdier and had fewer entrances. Inside each cabin, there were two beds, so we had to pair up. Tarrant and I shared one cabin, Boston and Jeremy shared another, and the three women shared the last one.Afterward, we returned to the main house for dinner, where Olga awaited us. With a humble bow, he apologized for any inconvenience his earlier actions might have caused. "I neglected to remove the charms before your arrival," he explained.
