HERO POV

"Humans?" I echoed, my gaze fixed on Kristina. "You think people are actually living in the heart of a Brute rogue mountain?"

"Yes, we believe so!" Zara snapped beside her. "And since I was the one who smelled them, I don't think you should be directing your questions at her. I realize it's a bit odd, but they're not wolves. They smell... different, I guess. I don't spend a lot of time around humans, so I'm not the best judge of normal."

Growling, I spun around and glared at her. She didn't flinch. "And you thought it was the smartest thing to do? You thought tracking that smell on your own was the best decision?"

“Yes, Hero. I thought it might be prudent to see why I was having such strange smell. I mean, you don't want to tell me why you are here in an unknown environment searching for… what on earth are you even searching for?” She questioned.

Jeremy, sensing the tension in the air, let out a low growl from his spot beside her.

But we had discussed it that they stopped ca

ZARA POVHero's face wasn't the only one frozen in shock. We all stood there, our mouths agape, our eyes wide with surprise. The tension in the air was palpable, and my inner wolf stirred, eager to react. But I held her back, reminding myself that we didn't need to resort to violence just yet... I was about to say something, ask questions that wouldn't stop dangling in my head."H—" I began, but the petite blonde woman raised an eyebrow, cutting me off. "Obviously, the witches here knew you were coming," she said, her tone matter-of-fact. "They have names, but they couldn't see why you were here. They just knew you needed a little guidance. You all can shift into your wolf form if that makes you feel safer around us.”Hero shook his head, a wry smile playing on his lips. "You have seers among you? I've heard tales of such gifted individuals, but I've never had the privilege of meeting one.”"I suspect that you will be meeting this one, but not today and perhaps not on this particular

ZARA POV"I don't care what went down out here," Olga grumbled, his eyes narrowing. "But my rules are simple: don't touch a single thing or break a single thing. My work is fragile, understand?”.” Olga pointed grumpily. The wolf healers I knew were known for their gentle touch, their soothing words, and their calming presence. They worked with a delicate precision, their hands moving with a quiet grace. But Olga was different. There was nothing gentle about him. His gruff voice and heavy footsteps echoed through the room as he stormed back inside, leaving us to wonder what had upset him so.Jason winked at me before speaking. "He's a big teddy bear deep down," he assured me. "You'll be fine. Just don't take anything he says too seriously." He paused for a moment, then asked, "Do you think you can find your way back on your own, or would you rather I stick around and wait?”"We don't need a bodyguard," Hero said, his voice sharp. But Jason, with a stubborn glint in his eyes, continued

Your most despised one-night stand." Her voice cracked, a contrast to the bravado she'd tried to muster.Olga returned before I could press on the issue. I paid close attention to the instructions on both the salve and the morning sickness medication. Watching him rub the stuff on her leg made my wolf howl with fury, but I just clenched my fist into a tight ball and stood still.I knew I couldn't do anything. Not now. Not yet. I had to wait for the right moment, the perfect opportunity. I had to be patient, to bide m

HERO POVWhen we got there, we saw Boston and Tarrant arguing over where to sleep. There were two places to stay: one for the wolves and one for the humans. Kristina seemed to be in charge of making the final decision, and I thought she was right to have picked this particular spot for us.The cabins were much easier to protect than the wolf dens. They were sturdier and had fewer entrances. Inside each cabin, there were two beds, so we had to pair up. Tarrant and I shared one cabin, Boston and Jeremy shared another, and the three women shared the last one.Afterward, we returned to the main house for dinner, where Olga awaited us. With a humble bow, he apologized for any inconvenience his earlier actions might have caused. "I neglected to remove the charms before your arrival," he explained. "I've taken care of that now and will keep them away throughout your stay."After a moment, I bowed my head and accepted his apology. It seemed plausible enough, and as far as I could tell, the on

ZARA POV‘And the baby.’ His last words echoed in my head refusing to fade. Instantly, my hand went down to my stomach and I closed my eyes. Of course he knew just what to say to make me go with exactly what he wanted. Wolves of great strength could take power, but it took intelligence and manipulation to keep it. “I already told you, my wolf and I don't have a connection. I've tried everything, but my wolf and I aren't compatible by any means. It's like we're from different worlds.”“I don't understand. Can you break that down for me?" he asked."It's pretty simple, really. People say you can talk to your wolf form when you're human. But I can't do that. I can't talk to her when I'm a wolf, either. She can't reach out to me. I try my best to control her, to speak to her but she won't even respond.”Hero's reaction to the revelation was unexpected. Instead of confusion or horror, he simply studied me with a thoughtful expression. His lips pursed as he pondered the implications. "Boo

ZARA POVThe sun's harsh light sliced through the grimy window, rudely announcing the start of another day. I stirred, my eyes slowly adjusting to the brightness. A familiar pang of loneliness washed over me as I realized I couldn't feel Hero's presence in the room.I rolled over, my heart pounding with so much dread. There, sprawled across Hero's bed, was Kristina. A menacing glint caught my eye - she was sharpening a long, wicked blade. The fear that had begun to creep in intensified. Any lingering jealousy I might have felt about her presence in Hero's bed vanished instantly.“Do we have a problem, Kristina?” I asked warily as I sat up."It's just that you're female," she sighed, her breath misting in the cold air as she continued to hone the blade in her hand. "I'm next in line after Jeremy. I should be out there with the others, tracking prey, and proving my worth. But instead, I'm stuck here, babysitting you because he doesn't trust any of the other male wolves to be alone with

ZARA POVThe shadows around the giant oak tree danced and shifted, teasing our eyes. A moment later, the mystery behind our curiosity was solved. Delilah and another woman emerged from behind the tree's massive trunk. They circled the oak, their gazes fixed on its towering branches. Spotting us, Delilah's face lit up in a warm smile. She waved us over. "Kristina, Zara," she introduced, "I'd like you to meet Jenny, our very own tree experts.”"Tree expert?" I repeated, my eyebrows raising in surprise. "You're a doctor for trees?" I shook the young blonde's hand, my grip firm. "That's...quite an unusual profession.”“That’s exactly right,” she laughs. “I keep an eye on them and help out when I can. It’s a shame, really. This old oak tree probably won’t be around much longer. You see those new shoots growing out of the trunk? That’s a sign that it’s not doing well. And all those leaves on the ground? That’s another clue. It’s likely to be attacked by beetles.”"Is there anything you can

Zara, however, kept her distance, her expression somber as she clung to Delilah's side."This is absolutely incredible!" Jason exclaimed, his eyes wide with excitement. "We can't thank you enough for this generous gift. It's more than we could have ever hoped for.”I didn't just want to say thank you. I was curious. I wanted to explore the edge of the village, to see what really lay beyond the boundary. Maybe there were hidden dangers, like wolves. But we didn't see a single one. It was almost like magic. While the carcasses were carried away, Zara stared at me stonily but I ignored her before turning to Delilah’s direction. “I would like to speak to your resident before we leave. ALPHA KING GRANTThe big wooden doors of the pack house creaked as I pushed them open. Another trip, another empty feeling. I sighed, a long, heavy sound that seemed to fill the quiet hallway. Since I was fifteen, I've been searching. Fifteen! That's a long, long time. I'm the Alpha King, which means I'm in charge of all the werewolf packs. I got this job really young, and now, well, I'm almost a hundred years old. And still, no mate.Everyone around me has found their special someone. My friends, my warriors, even the cooks in the kitchen! They all have their mates, and it makes me feel... lonely. Really lonely. When I turned fifteen, I took a whole year off. A year! I traveled all over the world, visiting every pack I could find. I was so excited. I imagined finding her, my mate. I wanted to give her everything, make her happy, love her with all my heart. He stumbled into the room, the air thick with the stench of metallic blood. His gaze, wild and searching, fell upon his brother, sprawled lifeless on the blood-soaked rug.A strangled cry escaped Harold’s lips. He staggered towards the body, his knees buckling beneath him. "No... no!" he choked, his voice raw with grief. "Henry,"Trisha, her face pale and drawn, followed close behind. She gasped, her eyes widening at the gruesome scene. "Oh Goodness," she whispered, her voice trembling. "What… what happened?"Harold, his hands trembling violently, reached out to touch his brother's cold, lifeless cheek. "Henry," he moaned, the word a guttural sob. "Who did this?”He slowly looked up at me, his eyes blazed with fury. The world seemed to tilt. THE ALPHA'S REJECTED MUTE MATECHAPTER 1ADRIANA POVAfter making breakfast for the Luna of the Diamond Pack this morning, I headed back to my room. A big smile spread across my face as I glanced at the calendar hanging on the wall of the room given to me at the pack house. Each ticked-off day on the April calendar brought me closer to my special day. Today was finally the 28th of April, my eighteenth birthday! I couldn't contain my excitement.Turning eighteen for most wolves is a big deal. It's when we usually shift into our wolf forms for the first time and meet our inner wolves. I'm even more excited than most, because I've been Mute since I was born. I had been like this since I was a baby, wrapped in the arms of my dead mother. She had been killed by a pack of lone wolves. Lone wolf...A lone wolf is a wolf that lives and hunts alone, outside of a pack, they don't belong to any Pack. This can happen for various

ZARA POVGrant finished his meal, a happy little mess of baby food smeared around his mouth. Hero, with a gentle smile, lifted him into his arms. "Okay, little man," Hero said, his voice soft, "tell Daddy all about your day."Grant, in response, let out a series of excited baby noises, a mix of gurgles and happy babbling. He waved his tiny hands, as if trying to tell a grand story that only he understood. Hero chuckled, bouncing him lightly up and down. Grant's laughter filled the room, a sweet, pure sound that made my heart melt.I couldn't help but smile. It was like watching magic happen. Before, Hero had been so unsure, so worried about being a father. But now, seeing them together, it was clear he was a natural. Grant absolutely adored him. His eyes lit up whenever Hero was near, and Hero, in return, spent every free moment with his son.Every time I saw them together, Hero had this big, open smile. ZARA POVONE YEAR LATERThe bright summer sun streamed through the window, making the dust motes dance in the air. A warm breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass, and the sound of birds chirping filled the garden. Inside, the living room was a cheerful chaos of baby toys and soft blankets.Kristina was sitting on the plush sofa, her eyes wide and sparkling as she cradled Grant in her arms. He was almost a year old now, a chubby little bundle of joy with big, curious eyes. He gurgled happily, reaching out tiny hands to tug at Kristina's bright pink shirt."Oh, he's just the sweetest thing!" Kristina sighed, her voice full of pure adoration. "Look at those eyes! And his little hands! He's absolutely perfect."I smiled, leaning against the doorway. "He is, isn't he? He gets those eyes from Hero.""And that hair! Just like Hero's too," Kristina added, gently stroking Grant's soft, dark curls. "He's a mini-Hero. You're so lucky, Zara. I swear, if I wasn't your best friend right now,

Are you sure?"Her eyes, wide and filled with a raw, primal fear, locked onto mine. "Yes! I'm sure! Oh, it hurts, Hero. It hurts so much!"She swayed, her legs buckling beneath her. I reacted instantly, leaping forward and catching her before she could fall. "Zara! Hold on, hold on.”"Oh, it's coming, Hero. It's really coming!" she gasped, her voice thick with pain. "It's… it’s like a fire inside.""Jeremy! Guys! We need help!" I yelled, my voice cracking with urgency. "Now!"Instead of the swift, coordinated response I expected, they walked towards us. A wave of cheers erupted, and my eyes widened in disbelief. Jeremy and the others stood there, beaming, holding bottles of sparkling wine and brightly colored balloons. "Congratulations, Hero! Congratulations, Zara!”They started clapping, oblivious to the chaos unfoldin

HERO POVMy hands were shaking. I mean, really shaking. I tried to smooth down my shirt, but it didn't help. I was standing right in front of the place. We had put up lights, flowers, everything. It was supposed to look like a dream, the kind of place you see in movies. I had spent all day, every single minute, trying to make it perfect. I wanted it to be just right for Zara.I took a deep breath. It didn't do much. My heart was pounding like a drum. I kept thinking, "What if she doesn't like it? What if it's not good enough?" I looked around again. We had hung little lights everywhere. They twinkled, even though it wasn't dark yet. We had put up her favorite flowers, the bright yellow ones. I had even gotten some special candles that smelled like vanilla, her favorite."Man, you look like you're about to jump out of your skin," Jeremy said. He was standing next to me, trying to look cool. He always looked cool. I wished I could be that calm."I'm nervous," I admitted. "Really nervous

ZARA POVI felt so much better. My body was strong again. Hero had taken care of everything. He made Paul and Alvira tell everyone what they did. The whole squad saw it, even Kira. They told the truth about trying to hurt me. Because of this, my father was going to lose his position as Alpha. He was in big trouble. But we had a big problem. We couldn't tell everyone about the mountain. It had too much magic. If other packs found out, they could use it for bad things. So, we all agreed to keep the mountain a secret.I knew Mascold wasn't happy about us leaving the mountain because they were torn between the fear of letting their secret out. Paxton and his mate tried to talk to us then and we had refused. I felt glad I had turn them down because right now, I was walking back into my old house to confront my father finally. It should have been my home, but it never really felt like it. I walked tall and proud. No one dared to touch me.I wondered why. Maybe they knew Hero was my mate, an

HERO POV"Are you alright?" I asked again, my voice low. I looked at her wrists, at the marks left by the cuffs, and at the rough collar around her neck. A wave of anger washed over me, a hot, burning feeling. Even though Weston was gone, I wanted to hurt him again, just for touching her like this. How could anyone do this to her?She blinked slowly, her eyes looking tired. "Yeah," she whispered, "I'm... I'm okay." She paused, her eyes fluttering. "But... I think I'm going to faint.”And then, just like that, she went limp in my arms. I felt a surge of panic. "Zara!" I called, but she didn't respond. I held her close, carefully lifting her into my arms. She was so light.I walked out of the cabin, the wooden floor creaking under my boots. The night air was cool, and the moon was bright, casting long shadows. I held Zara tightly, my heart pounding.Suddenly, I heard a soft rustling sound from the trees nearby. It was a subtle sound, like leaves moving, but my senses were sharp. I stopp
