ZARA POV

The heavy, wooden door creaked open, casting a sliver of moonlight across the cold, damp floor. It was nearly four in the morning, an eternity since I had last seen Sonja. A wave of relief washed over me as I saw the guard, slumped over on the ground, his head lolling limply. The sleeping draught had worked.

The cell was tiny, barely large enough for a cot and a small, wooden table. The walls were bare and cold, and the only sound was the distant hum of the prison generators. I had been confined to this miserable place for what felt like an age, my mind consumed by thoughts of escape and the one person I couldn't stop thinking about.

She twirled the key between her fingers, a nervous habit.

"Paul and the others are on a mission down south. We should head to the North River and then go our separate ways. Are you certain you won't join me? My father has a place for us," she said quietly.

"Hey, did you tell him about this plan?" I asked, my voice sharper than I'd meant it to be.

I let my arms wrap themselves around my naked body. “I…I'm sorry, Hero. I'm honestly not trying to be clingy. I’m in some kind of a big mess, and I thought you could render some help.” "Hero?" The man next to him barked, and I flinched. I'd almost forgotten we had an audience. What had Hero called him? Jeremy. "Don't you ever call him Hero again, or I'll feed your tongue to the deadly animals in the woods.”I quickly looked down, realising my mistake. In my eagerness to talk to him, I had forgotten to be respectful. "I apologise," I mumbled, my voice barely a whisper. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart, before speaking again.“Alpha of the Black Haw pack. I didn't mean to offend you.” I uttered even if I knew that my initial plan was going off the rails already. The men around him fell silent, their eyes drawn to him. I cauti

ZARA POVI gradually got up from the damp floor of the forest that chilled my skin while letting my wolf’s instinct take over. She was the only one who could run, evade, and hide. I was only good at messing things up, apparently.I was so wrong, so incredibly stupid. Weston was just like my father, and at least I managed to avoid the disaster of getting married to him. But it was plain foolish to pin all my hopes on a man I barely knew.Even more foolish thinking that he would save me from the controlling hands of my father. I was a fucking dumb ass. My small, speedy wolf was a blur of fur in the thick woods. She was like a tiny, powerful bullet, darting and dodging with ease. I only noticed something was wrong when she disappeared under a low bush, completely ignoring Hero’s thought. The air was thick with the stale scent of damp clothes, a foul odour that made her nose wrinkle. As she moved cautiously forward, she realised the source of the stench: a pack of werewolves, not just o

ZARA POVThe smell of burning wood and sizzling meat tickled my nose, pulling me from the depths of sleep. As my eyes fluttered open, I realised something was amiss. My wolf form was gone, replaced by the familiar warmth of blankets. Night had enveloped the forest, casting long, dancing shadows. Confused and disoriented, I sat up, only to find five pairs of curious eyes fixed upon me.I gasped, my breath ragged, and pulled the blanket over my head."Alright, team," Hero's voice cut through the tense silence. "We need to make sure this place is secure. Spread out, check every corner. Keep your eyes peeled and your weapons ready."With a nod, everyone dispersed, disappearing into the shadows. Only Jeremy remained, a wooden bowl of steaming noodles held out towards me. "Eat," he ordered, his voice low. I hesitated, but the enticing aroma was too much to resist.”As I dug into the warm, comforting meal, Hero's gaze never left me. His expression was unreadable, a mask of indifference. I co

HERO POVHer face froze in shock, her eyes wide and unblinking. A moment passed, then another, as she struggled to comprehend the words she had just heard. Finally, she found her voice, her tone laced with disbelief."I... what? I don't think that's possible," she stammered, her voice barely a whisper.“Why not?” "It's not real, you know. Just a silly and stupid story to give people goosebumps. I mean, look around," she gestured at the peaceful surroundings. "It's just a peaceful mountain. A big, harmless mountain. Nothing to be afraid of!”“I’m not playing games here. The mountain is a harsh reality, and the rogue wolves are a constant threat. If you leave, they’ll hunt you down. They’ll tear you and your unborn child to shreds.”I didn't want to, but my eyes fell to her belly. The second I caught the faint scent of her pup, my wolf went crazy. It had been there, a silent predator, ever since she vanished into the woods.I had darted after her, eager to keep pace. But her wolf was a

ZARA POV"Jeremy, please stop! You're hurting me!" I yelled, my voice barely audible over the sound of my own ragged breathing. His grip tightened, and I winced in pain. "You need to be quiet," he hissed, his voice low and menacing. "If you don't, you won't have to worry about seeing your father anymore. You'll be dead.”The fear that gripped my heart was almost unbearable. I knew he meant what he said. He was capable of anything. I tried to calm my breathing, to still my trembling body. But the more I struggled, the tighter his grip became. We were so far from Hero that he couldn't hear us, but I still yelled and fought back. I punched Jeremy hard on the back, again and again, but it didn't bother him at all. He didn't even flinch."Enough!" he sighed, his voice laced with exasperation. "Hero was absolutely right about you. You're so stubborn, it's unbelievable. You'd rather die out here than see your own father? If you've inherited Daddy's stubborn streak, please, do me a favour and

ZARA POVJeremy pressed his body low to the ground, inching closer to the edge of the woods. I followed closely behind, my smaller size allowing me to move with ease through the undergrowth. We were nearing the parking lot, where their vehicles were parked. The parked cars were a sad sight. They sat up on blocks, their tires missing, exposed to the elements. Someone was scavenging through them, their movements quick and desperate. At the end of the line, a lone figure stood guard, a wolf among the wreckage. A lookout, no doubt. Luckily, the wind was blowing in our favour, carrying the sound of our approach away from the scavengers.Hell no, the rogues had found the vehicles. It thankfully looked like Jeremy would not be driving me to my father. Hopefully Hero hadn't left anything behind that says: Hey, I'm the Alpha king, and I'm going to camp out here in the forbidden mountain for some unknown reason. Hope you guys don't mind me staying for a while? The radio beeped, and one of the r

HEROI didn't panic easily but my heart was pounding so hard right now. Kristina and I immediately swirled our head around. "Something's definitely wrong," I blurted out, as we both glanced back when the wind changed direction. A strange smell caught our attention, making my stomach churn.Wolves. Several of them where coming our way. Instantly, I began to shift, and nobody hesitated as they all shifted too.We swiftly formed a protective barrier around Tabitha, our weakest member, and growled into the thicket of the woods. The attacks came without warning. Seven wolves crept out through the bush, two aiming at me. I considered letting my power out, but it was damn too soon. I just didn't need the whole creatures of the woods to discover my status, so I pulled it in and focused on my strength instead. These wolves didn't seem to have any training at all, but they worked so well together, and they fought raw and wild. ZARA POVWe crept silently up the dark, moon mountain, our group surrounding me like a pack of wolves circling their prey. Even the small wolf, who had always been quiet, regarded me with a sidelong glance, her silence more intimidating than any words. I felt like a prisoner, guilty of a terrible crime, though I knew not of what.I knew that Hero wouldn't stoop so low as to put a chain around my neck. Yet, I couldn't deny the recklessness of my actions. No one forced me into this situation. I could have chosen a different path, a safer one. But here I was, entangled with the very man I thought would be my savior, my ticket to a better life.I knew that if I needed to stay with him, I needed to obey him. It was my best bet for now. The safest bet, since it meant I would have more time to plan my escape before he tried to haul me back to my father. The very idea of returning to him sent a shiver down my spine. ZARA POVAnger surged through Hero, his eyes flashing with a dangerous light. But the witch remained defiant, showing no fear. I quickly placed my hand on his arm, stopping him before he could act. “You didn't come here just to seek vengeance,' I reminded him calmly. "You wanted answers – to understand why this terrible thing happened to them.”"I do not have the sight," she said, a hint of bitterness in her voice. "But one thing's certain – no one ventures into these mountains without a purpose. Maybe you can still find a way to get your revenge, or perhaps you'll discover something even more valuable. I can only offer you safe passage to your next destination.”"I've been injured a few times on our journey, even inside their camp. I think my blood might still be there. If you take some of my blood, could you use it to track where I've been?”Before I could say another word, she grabbed my arm. Suddenly, a knife flashed in her hand. “Just so you know,” she hissed, “It's an incredibly

HERO POV"I think the route we're taking is probably the best option. We have already reached the highest point, but I believe we should veer more towards the east than the west. Paxton Marcua is closer than Stephen's location.”The pull to the west was strong, an undeniable force tugging at every bone in my body. Yet, a nagging doubt lingered, a puzzle piece refusing to fit. Zara's voice cut through my thoughts, "Is everyone aware of these packs?”“Sure. They have been around for ages. You can't really explore the mountain without having to deal with them, why?”“What about the humans who aren't humans?” They have been awfully vague about going to see Paxton. If everyone knew of the packs, then so should they. Why didn't they give us directions straight to Stephen? The amulet suddenly glowed intensely white, and I immediately stopped. “Oh no,” Cyrus whispered under his breath. “There's a powerful surge of magic ahead and to our left.”“And to the right?” I questioned.“Still magic, b

ZARA POVMy wolf, usually not confident, shivered at the mournful sound. Fear, cold and sharp, began to prickle my skin. I knew I had to take control, and quickly. My body began to change, muscles flexing and bones shifting. Everyone else instinctively stepped back, giving me the space I needed. Cyrus, however, seemed lost in his own fear and pain. For a moment, the strange, uncomfortable feeling of my body transforming seemed to distract him from his own distress."Listen, we can't go this way," Cyrus said firmly. "Wolves come through this area, and they never come back. It's too dangerous.”"We have two things that will help us here," Hero said, his voice serious. "First, we have the amulet. Second, we have you. You can feel magic, and that's a powerful skill. Together, we can find our way through this place.”"No way," Cyrus declared. "I'm not going into that place and risk angering some angry wolf spirit.”The ground shook violently, and I squeezed my eyes shut. It wasn't just an

HERO POVWe left a few hours later. Cyrus had spent the night as a wolf, and we were hoping that being a wolf would help his body get rid of the serum. Unfortunately, it seemed like the drug had also affected him as a wolf.I began to doubt my initial assessment of his wolf. Perhaps I had overestimated its strength. But such thoughts were pointless now. The damage was done. Elliot had made it unmistakably clear that we had pushed him too far by making decisions he had nothing to say about. He wanted us gone by morning, and there was no turning back.Boston was walking on his own with a limp but he wasn't at full strength. Zara’s wolf was right at the surface, but she wasn't taking full control. Kristina was still pissed. In the end, we were all a fucking mess, but we kept a tight formation and didn't run into any trouble as we worked ourbway towatds the mountain. At noon, we had shaken off the wolves that Elliot had sent to watch us, until we had reached the river. I was truly reliev

HERO POVMy eyes narrowed, but before I could speak, a loud shout erupted from the cabin next door. I quickly ran towards the sound and flung open the cabin door. As I did, I saw Jeremy and Tristan standing there, both looking flustered. They were pulling a young teenage boy along with them, who seemed scared and confused.I was completely confused and yelled, “What's happening?” But instead of answering, Jeremy threw the boy at my feet.“We caught him breaking into our cabin.” Jeremy responded.“Why don't you fuvk off and suck some dicks. It's my cabin not yours.” The boy murmured, his words slurred. I knelt down, gently grasping his chin. I looked into his eyes, which were dilated and wide."Elliot!" I yelled, my voice booming through the air.The boy instantly flinched, his hands shooting up in a gesture of surrender. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! No need to call him. We're fine here, really.“Then I demand to know what you were sneaking around doing in our cabin.” My voice was sharp, and the

ZARA POVHe pressed his lips to mine, a forceful kiss that demanded a response. As he did, the length of his arousal pressed insistently between our bodies. I couldn't resist. My body softened, yielding to his. My breasts flattened against his chest as he moved against me, a primal dance of desire."I want you to know," he whispered, his voice low and intense, "that when you're like this, when you're so wet and eager for me, you're mine. You're my good girl. Don't hold back, Zara. Let it all out. Scream. Let everyone here hear you. Let them know that you belong to me. That I'm taking you with me. You're mine. And oh Goodness, you're so tight. Keep squeezing me like that. Don't stop.”With trembling legs, I struggled to remain standing. Hero strong arms pulled me close. I leaned heavily against him, grateful for his support as he guided me towards the bed. My knees gave way, and I collapsed forward, a sharp cry escaping my lips as his weight bore down on me. He paused, a low growl rumb

ZARA POVHis lips smashed against mine in a bruising kiss.My heart pounded in my chest like a drumbeat as he leaned in, his breath warm against my skin. My toes curled, and I instinctively reached up, my fingers tangling in his hair. Every fiber of my being screamed at me to stop, to pull away. I knew this was a terrible idea, a reckless move that could only lead to heartbreak. Yet, I was frozen, unable to move or think. The tension in my body was unbearable, as if I were about to shatter into a million pieces. I couldn't escape the fear, the pain, the overwhelming confusion that consumed me.But at this moment, I craved his touch.“Did you think of this when he asked you to stay?” Hero snarled, breaking the kiss and tearing my shirt open. “Did you wonder if he could touch you the way I do?”His fingers dug into my side, a painful reminder of his presence. My breasts were naked to him, begging for his touch. All I could think about was the way his lips felt on my skin, the way they m

HERO POV"She said what?" I muttered to myself, my mind racing. ‘He's not fit to be a father?’ What the hell does that even mean? I couldn't help it as her words kept replaying in my head. I frowned, my gaze following her retreating figure. The way Elliot looked at her wasn't just lust or desire; it was something deeper, something almost reverent. It was the kind of look a starstruck fan gives their idol, the kind a lovesick puppy gives its owner. It was adoration, pure and simple.Zara was a beautiful woman. Here, she would be something new and exciting. The news that she was pregnant clearly didn't bother him. I thought he would get pissed about it and reject her but judging from the children running around in the camp, he was ready to welcome a baby. He was ready to be with her and father the pup. “You're growling again,” Jeremy sighed, his voice laced with weariness. "Tristan is not thrilled about being dragged all the way from Boston to track down Zara, either.”“Nobody should

He offered a friendly smile, his eyes twinkling with warmth.“Hey, I'm Zara, I just wanted to say thanks a bunch for saving me out there. I heard all about what you did, and I really appreciate it.”"That was a joint effort," he said, his gaze sweeping across the cabin. "I gave Hero a radio, only to realize I'd given him the one with a dead battery. Luckily, I was able to get back quickly. Does your healer need anything? Mine's back, so she could lend a hand if needed.”He hunched his shoulders and ducked his head, making a conscious effort to appear smaller and less imposing. He stopped a safe distance away, his hands tucked into his pockets. It was a gesture of respect I'd never witnessed from another man. Even Hero, when he'd mistaken me for a vulnerable soul hurt by Weston's rejection, hadn't gone to such length
